The podcast blends humor, reflection, and creative storytelling to explore the absurdities of everyday life through a comedic lens. A central theme is the connection between puzzle-based challenges like escape rooms and music, where hidden codes and structure create a "crossword-like" experience. The hosts recount a group escape room adventure, noting how one experienced participant recognized the clues as intentional, highlighting the shared intelligence and fun in collaborative problem-solving. A standout segment involves a detailed analysis of the podcast’s recurring "dukey" references, where listeners track usage across episodes, leading to playful debates about who said the word most and when. The discussion of the song "After Party" reveals its intentionally mundane, emotionally raw lyrics—structured like a list of post-activity routines—and how it evolved from a simple idea into a symbol of relatable frustration. The hosts also reflect on personal moments, such as 3D movie nights and skateboarding collaborations, showing how these experiences shaped their creative process. The episode emphasizes authenticity over polish, celebrating awkwardness and imperfection as sources of humor. Through music, memory, and shared experiences, the podcast maintains its identity as a community-driven, self-aware, and deeply human comedy show.

Like, any kind of crossword where you're like, "Oh, this means this and, like, there's a language to it, "but I thought it really sucked." And as also, like, as the whole time I was like, "I gotta get to this bug house. "I hit this exit button. "Have you done them, Keith? "Have you done a, uh, escape room?" Yeah, there are little, like, video games come to life, as well. Like, once you know the language of certain styles of puzzle video games, like, yeah. Now, it's, like, Link. It's, like, Mario Odyssey or whatever, where you're-- you start knowing to, like, "Wait, let me look at each detail." You know, each doorknob has a different symbol on it. Like, you kind of learned the language of 'em, so you are right in the crosswordiness of escape rooms. But my kids love 'em. Were you with other people that had done them before? Well, this was the other thing about it. It was that I was with seven people, four of them being children, and two of them kind of freaking out, 'cause it was a scary one. So, you know, I think-- Yeah, we always make sure it's not too spooky, if I want. It was, like, a lot of screaming in me. Like, I don't like this. Yeah, well, you can't do that. But I guess my question was, were any of the adults, like, seasoned escape room people I could tell you if you were in a good one or a bad one? We had one girl. She was seasoned, so she sort of knew that you had to, like, really poke around, 'cause I was kind of like, "Uh, can we just guess the numbers?" And did she say this is a lame escape room, or do she like, "No, this is pretty much part of the course." No, I think it was-- I think it was probably a, okay, one. Yeah, okay. I had to sacrifice myself at the end, and then to, like-- Dang. That's drama. That is a spooky one. Thank you. Is that a better volume? It is better. Yeah, you sound great. Do you want more, though? I would turn up my Andy. You know what I mean? Like Eminem would say. If you're asking, "Do I want more?" Like, the Roots album? Then the answer's always yes. Yeah, we want-- Can I get an encore? We want-- Yeah. More Andy. I need more Andy in my cans. Can I get an encore? Do you want more? No, we have to pay for that. Bro, we're gonna be doing after-party today, so we're gonna be dinked in the doink on the ads, because, uh, Republic Records. George's World, George's World, on Guest Time, and he hates it. Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Andy hates it. Uh-oh. Somebody loaded up the buttons, y'all. Great. It's 10/30 on a Sunday, guys. Welcome back. Yorms World, Andy hates it. Yeah, Yorms all jacked up from his escape room. Yeah, he's like, "I could just sacrifice myself. I'm the hero." [laughter] All right, Andy, what'd you get on the beat? Whoa, he's starting it right off. Jack Black! [laughter] Spelling beat! [laughter] Might as well get it out of the way, because it's way too early, and it's a monster beat. I haven't finished it. Oh. I like hearing this. I'm four away. The wheels are off. It's just the three three adores, and we can do the beat right at the top. Are you gonna do this while we do our pot? It's a 79-word beat. But, you know what? Let's do this. No, don't do it the whole pot. No, no, no, no, no, no. Yesterday? Clean. Well, day before? Clean. Day before? Clean. Day before? Clean. That's a Wednesday through Saturday's sweep. Mm-hmm. But what happened Tuesday? One hit. What? [laughter] What? Not the beat! [laughter] You lose her. Oh my god. No, no. Keith. It's never good enough for you, dude. This guy. He's very bad at it. [laughter] Keith, you've been mocking me on the fucking minis, dude. Yeah. With the really bad scores that you just happen to get one second worse. Yeah. That was kind of crazy. We had a horrible one yesterday, which was two minutes and fifty seconds. You guys don't say that that's horrible. There's a lot of fifty-four and I have fifty-three. So bam, two-fifty. But for that many seconds to a pass, that has to be one second apart. Disaster. Keith, you're one second smarter than Andy. That's awesome. I've always said that. If I'm sub-fifty-two, I'm like, yeah, that was an okay job. Anything about fifty-two seconds is horrible. I mean, low-30 is the goal. But this was a whole other. Low-30 is the goal. Andy, you got winter soldiered pretty bad. And I can still see your black eye is still healing. [laughter] What kind of things did you do when you got activated? I mean, obviously you don't know. But did you check the news the next day for any mysterious-- I got cuts and bruises all over my body. And I'm just like, who did I off, you know? So that was Friday. So we got to check the news Saturday morning and see if there's any suspicious news articles. It seems like anything that you read about the next morning was definitely me as a winter soldier. This was the clue. Comedian Sandberg. Four letters. Yeah, and I-- Pretty tricky. Maya forwarded it to me. My Rudolph. Yeah. And I was like, did you put Sven? And she said, I did. [laughter] Now, Andy, I texted you about this. But I just want to-- I mean, we'd have to check back with the fine folks in New York Times games. The clue right above yours is dad-bodd. So if you read it together, it's dad-bodd, Andy. Do we think this is coincidence? I mean, if they've seen me lately, I don't think so. Right. But I'm working on it. Now, I'm going to read the whole thing to you as a sentence. Okay. And you guys tell me, if you think that the whole-- 'cause if you recall, usually the activation of a winter soldier or, you know, Charles Branson is like an old poem or something like a Robert Frost poem or something. Airbnb. Obviously, we do a lot of Airbnb ads on the podcast. Yeah, sure. So Airbnb. Ice Age. Andy's favorite animated film. Dad-bodd, Andy. Itty, Ottawa, Fuller. You tell me. What do you call theologies if I just activated your arm by saying I'm all out loud? Well, yeah, I didn't get any of those. So I'm not even done yet. But I did get Andy. And I put in Adam. It wasn't that. No. It was my sweet burn. Such a great joke. I always love that joke. Thank you. Thank you. All right. I'm going to share something that somebody sent. Your name is a little dick or something. No, it doesn't, Andy. All right. So this is from Jonathan. Yeah, this is great. Okay. Quaid Army. I spent my lunch today doing a frequency analysis of the word "dukey" in episode 127. Trouble on "dukey island." Oh, dear. What a great person. Here is the raw data with timestamps, which everyone on the pod loves. That's true. So it's broken into three columns. The first is the statistic. The second is which Theodore was involved. And the third is the timestamp. So, for instance, the first row here is first dukey. The Theodore is Akiva. And the timestamp is 0.0721 seconds. I guess. Final dukey is Howard Parker at one hour and four minutes. I love Final Dukey. How do you feel about Final Dukey? Well, it's inevitable, you know what I mean? Okay, start. Keep continuing. Now, don't look at it for a second, Andy. Okay. How much would you guess was the longest time between dukeys? Three minutes? No, it was 10 minutes, 51 seconds. Oh, okay. We were so mature. We must have really gotten off the topic for a while. Well, I overcommentated because I was like, this is going to be crazy. Stop looking at it. Completely. I'm going to keep asking you. I'm not looking. Now, your arm's already seen it. That's why I'm focusing it on Andy. Yeah. Okay. Also, I'm just more interesting. Nice one, Andy. Who do you think had the most dukeys? Who said the word dukey the most? Yeah. The voiceover guy. Yeah, Howard Parker had 41 dukeys. Okay, but after that is a tougher one. Now, who had the fewest? Seth. Well, he wasn't on the episode. So, I don't think he was included. But he's Dave, anyways. And I told you the column is the labeled "Theodore." The fewest dukeys between the three of us. God, damn. Is it close? He didn't give me the statistics on it. He just named the person. I wish we had the statistics of the exact. So, Jonathan, if you wouldn't mind for next week, we'll email over how many each one of us had. Bit more thorough, Jonathan. I'm going to say just for fun, me. I was the fewest dukeys. No, it was actually me. Akiva. What? It was my first guest. I should have just trusted my instincts. Hardest dukey. Hardest? Like who said "dukey," the hardest? Yeah, it's obviously. You're him. It's in the song. Yeah, it was you. Okay. And then, how many dukeys were said the entire episode? I'm assuming this includes the ones. Let's guess on this one. I didn't look at this statistic. I'm assuming this was in the song as well. The dukeys that played. So, every time a dukey was mentioned on the episode. Now, you're him. You can get in on this one. You didn't see the statistic. This is a little like when you're at the carnival, like the kid's fair. Sure. And they have a jar full of marbles. And you have to guess how many marbles are in the jar? Well, there's a gimme. There's a gimme on this, which is Howard Parker said at 36 times. Three times two. Hey, hey, hey, don't tell us. One, not the game. You can. You come to your conclusion and then you can walk us to how you got there. Okay. Just tell me when you both have your number. Okay. One, two, three. 72. I'm going to say 83. 127 dukeys. Fuck! That's some fire ass. Podcasting. You know? It might be the Guinness record for the most dukey set on a single episode of a podcast. What if they take our award for like best podcast hosts away based on that statistic? Who's somebody reach out to the Guinness people and see if they'll just award it to us? It already happened. Well, I do want to say that I really appreciate Jonathan you going through that. Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I like. And we appreciate it. So thank you. Break Donald Diggie. Oh, this one was interesting. hans was at burning man and he
We heard the sounds of our music permeating through the continual EDM. What? And it was Natalie's rap, but then he thought it was just going to be that song, but then it continued, continued. Somebody was just playing, I guess, a bunch of our songs. So he took a little video that I'll share with you guys. I just watched the Burning Man docuseries, so this is making me extra excited. Did it make you want to go, Andy? Yes and no. Like the people who are glamping are clearly like everyone hates their guts, and it's not in the true spirit of what Burning Man was originated on. But that's what you do. But you're like, but that's what I'd want to do. I'm like, well, I wouldn't want to do it because I don't want to go someplace where everyone thinks I'm a piece of shit. But I was also like, it looks like, and I have friends who have done it, and they're like, yeah, it's awesome, but it is very, like, dusty. No, just, it's a lot of work. Like you're truly coming in, building your entire own camp, and then totally breaking it all down and clearing out and leaving not a trace, and that it's just a hard camp. Wow. That's amazing. Yeah. It's very creative, though, yeah. Like minded souls. Yeah. Artists. It honestly looks fantastic. It's like being in Nola. Sex man. Listen to this. Sex man. It sounds bass heavy. Yeah. It's rocking. Have we ever tried to find the original sex man before Jack got on it? Oh, that's a great one to try to find. Yeah. Let me see if I can find that right now. Hold on. There's one with Lenny Pickett on it, but he played too well, so then we nixed it for like a shitty-ass midi. Oh, yeah. It wasn't as funny, because even his bad notes are still so solid. I know. You could tell he's talented. Yeah. One thing I have found traversing the industry is when you're doing comedy, it's really hard to get professional people to do something intentionally bad. Three, two. Yeah. Really hard. Fucking talent, man. How does it feel to be such a cool guy? It's hard. I got to say. Oh. It's disappointing. Well, I know people see me and then they feel nervous. They don't want to like, you know, come up to me because they're like, oh, my god. Where'd you get that shirt? Like, you know, with that bright hair cut, you know, what shirt are you wearing when they say that? It's not all surface level stuff. Well, I went to the Nets game last night. I was wearing my German shirt. I had a couple quaid sightings, but I could tell just like a majority of the people there were just like way too intimidated. Yeah. Because it was like most of the crowd wanted to say hi. Yeah. There was at least 18,000 people there because it was a bubble of a day. So, you know, they came out and drove and so like out of those, I would say, at least majority didn't say hello or a lot of eyes averted on the ground, you know, into their hot dogs. So it sucks because it's lonely is what you're saying to be such a cool guy. It was just a weird feeling to be out in public, surrounded by people, but also feel lonely. Damn. Let's see this poetic. Sometimes you can feel like the loneliest boy in New York. Good thinking, Keith. Oh. So just for anyone listening, you didn't actually say that, that was one of his buttons. So you had a personalized, nice one, Andy. A personalized button just for me. And now he's laughing so hard he can't talk. Because he timed it well. It's hard to time it. Andy was of course looking down at the spelling bee. Well, you insulted me. So now I need to prove myself. Well, don't have Seth. You can't do it. Then why did you say I was bad at the bee? You knew this was going to happen. It was playful ripping, Andy. I know you're very good at it. You're actually the best of anybody. Focus up. Now you're just bullshitting me so I'll engage with the pod. Focus up. Listen to this. That's a featuring Jack Blackhead, come on. Well, he was a saxman from a state of Tennessee, first sat in with the band at the rap old Asia three weeks old and we're double. It's just like you did two takes and they're just in there. I like this version too. Well, I was doing my best. This is how we want Jack to do it. Take a saxman. He's going to he'll be right with your folks. Well, we should be drunk. You match that really well. But now you're all warmed up this next one's going to be hot, a kick a saxman. Okay, have a little inspiration, it's like the game, saxman, repeat after me. Here we go. Yeah, that was the same song, but I like that you gave Jack the room to Scooby-Bop. Oh, shit, all right, well, that was the demo of Sex Man from 2000, something. You heard it here first, guys. What other podcast is going to give you that? Andy, how'd you feel hearing that? Interesting. We didn't even bother aligning your two different vocal, if we wanted your voice doubled, why did we at least take the moment to align this? We didn't know we were doing it. Yeah. I mean, you're right. Also, we knew we were asking Jack. Like the whole point of it was just to show him the template. It's so funny looking back now, him coming in and being like, I feel like I can't do it as good as that. Yeah, he was really nice about that though, bro, yours was significantly better on every level. Yeah, yours is pretty funny though, but there's, there's, you know, there's a dumbness in there. Yeah, that was great. How lovely. The little ad is brought to you by mod. mod prescribes a once or twice daily indefinite drink that can keep you energized, focused, and alert throughout the day. It's a hard one, but remember what I said about all the other days? Quibi. Quibi. Quibi. Quibi. Quibi. Quibi. Quibi. Quibi. It's cool and it's a good use of my time and I'm not going to wake up one day and be like my life. That's generous. New York Times. I wasted it all on Quibi. It could have been with my friends and family. There are so many places and articles about like studios trying to make vertical videos for TikTok essentially, but like little show poppers that play in two-minute bursts in vertical that you can watch whole stories. And that is what Quibi was. Thank you.
relentlessly made fun of. And it's what happens when you're first. It was 2018 and it was too soon because TikTok and Instagram, like real culture didn't exist yet. And so they were trying to make their own place where they were highly producing it. And they were, and it stood for quick bites. Kevin reminds me. Quibi, quick bites. Yeah. And it was just so far ahead that it was unnecessary. Behind that it was behind. Yeah. Yeah. They just should have been called virts. Yeah, virts. And then it would have been a hit. Sometimes it's just about the marketing, you know what I mean? The branding. Quibi, come on. Nobody says that. You know who's really good at virts? Tony Hawk. I've actually heard that. I've never seen it with my own two eyes. Big shout out to Tony for our outro last week. Yeah, thanks, Tony. Did you hear it, you want? Did you ever go back and listen? I didn't hear it. Was he good? He did a nice little later skater thingy for us. I love it. I love that guy. Yeah, he's going places. But then, you know what he's doing. He's coming right back down and going up the other side. I like him for the right reason, something like you guys. You know what I was setting you up to play the sound bite. I do it again. Yeah, that Tony Hawk. He's going places. But then he's coming right back down and just going up the other side. Thank you. This is a good episode so far for sure. Well, when I'm dropping gems like this, because I can see Andy's eyes have been nowhere, but on his phone the whole time. How many words have you gotten, I guess? No, we don't want to focus on that. That's no, that's not interesting. I agree. This motherfucker. All right, listen. You got to stop. That was, that was his free seven. You should have got other people to do it. Maybe. Well, I guess it's better than it's you. You're, you've set it up where you could be doing the spelling B because you could still be present. You could just have one hand on your phone and the other one just hitting the little presets. Andy needs to focus because he hasn't bothered to make presets. This is classic. You are, though, if the problem is with how we do our broadcasts is the reason it's funny is how much it's making him laugh. Yeah, every time he does it, he's just like crying with love. I give and then him just like, his, his, he can't talk. He's laughing so hard. He's out of breath. It's silent laughter because he's, all the air is out of his lungs. That's exactly what it was like a five in the morning. We would be at SNL and I would start laughing and everybody like, well, the sketch doesn't work because he's laughing like that. It's tickling him too much. If your arm laughs that specific laugh, you know you're cooked and it's like you shit at the table. You're done. It's because your main character is too shitty. That's basically you've, you've got into that territory. Yeah, that's when I left the most when it's too shitty. But you know it worked out for McGruber. That is true. Nice joke. I didn't really work. This one's gonna suck. It might be the best one, but you need to focus up. Get in there control. Fine. Fine. Everyone likes stuff. Hey, here we go. Hey, welcome back to the Lonely Island Seth Meyers podcast. We've got a great episode for you today. Everything before this we were just kidding. That's not, we're not that bad at doing podcast. This is the real star. We're professionals. The short today is after party featuring Sati Gold. Here's our little taste. I thought she was going to start singing. I mean, I timed it to the drum to the to the drop, but not so good. I didn't remember that. I went this many bars. New shopping gold. It's not new, actually. This song is still fire. This is a banger like those banger taradactyl wings. Am I right, Andy? Yeah. This is disparate youth by Sati Gold going out to all of our listeners. Quads if you want to call in and request anything, you can do that right now at 747-727-0850 now. I mean, it's so good. I just want to keep it playing, but I'm going to jump it off here. If you can name what year this came out right now, you will get a free t-shirt win. No, that's not. All right, we can't do that. Yeah, that song is so good. Sati's the best, the homie. And we had just met her like a couple months before we asked her to be on the song. And we were like, how can we waste her talent? So she was doing her second album. Her first album was LES Lowery Signed. I'm assuming Artists. It is. And that one came out in 2008, it's the one where she's like puking gold glitter on the cover, like an artist. And we played the shit out of that album. We did. Iconic. We were massive fans. Still are. Still are. So we were kind of geeking out when we were again, we were mixing. We had made all the demos in LA, but we were back in New York doing SNL. And then when there'd be an off week, we'd go to Downtown Records, which was a record label that we've talked about, but it was also a, there were maybe three recording studios. Yeah. And it was right off Broadway in Soho. That's where we shot Jack Sparrow. Yeah, all right. You can see it in Jack Sparrow. And so we would be in there. And then we were like, who's in the other studio? Because you could, they're just like, you know, rooms next to each other. And so I was like, oh, it's Santiago doing stuff for her second album. And we were like, holy shit. Do you remember how long we stuttered for when we met her? We're like, oh, you and big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big fans. We live in the West Village. So we're, we think of ourselves as WV Artists. And then we laugh for five minutes straight. Yeah. As we slowly backed out of the room, she was like, cool. Well, and we were like, are these the names of all of the songs on your new album? And it was actually written on the wall. And we were all kind of excited to see. Oh, yeah, we were just looking. Oh, another jam. Just listen to it. So this was the one that was, I was just talking about LES Artis from her first record a year. This is LES Artis going out to all the quads. If you can name the year that it came out, you will get a free t-shirt. You're just calling right now, 747-7272. We have it. We don't have t-shirts. Calling out. We don't have that capability. Let's just get to the chorus of this one too. Because this is a celebration. If we can play all that goes by some rei guam, we can play the santi. Yeah, dude, who wants to monetize, not me. Do it, sing along. What's weird at her concerts? If anyone sings along to the she stops and goes, no, no, I'm the singer. I'm up here. You're down there. You paid the money. I get the money. You sing that part. I shut it down. Isn't that crazy? Are you in union 104? Because I am. Exactly. She's huge into the unions and is like, that's a violation. I'm the same. That's a violation. She points. Each person in the audience gets pointed at who was singing and she goes, that's a violation. Yeah, that's a violation. That's a violation. So anyway, all the young heads do the knowledge santi gold. The chillest except for that one thing. Except for when she yells at the audience. Yeah, for doing that one, one, one. Yeah, it's just that. They could sing the rest, which is so inconsistent. And there's a lot of think pieces online. If you look up, is santi gold's union wrapping inconsistent? Yeah. Well, the chiller of person is the more likely they are to snap. It will be worth it. Do it. Fuck. No. That's for me. You shut the fuck up. That's a violation. Union. It's a weird show. It's a weird show. Because she's got the two dancers behind her. And she's in that kind of three person like formation. And the dancers, they've clearly been instructed that when she yells, don't stop dancing. Yeah. But they have to go into a holding pattern. And the holding patterns just kind of awkward swing of the arms. And they just have to do it while she yells. And then it kicks back in. Well, they're in a different union. So that's just it's different rules. Like a singer can do this. If you're 104, yeah, you can do this. Dancers hold everything. Well, famously, at the first time she did a rant, they did stop dancing. And then the rant turned on them. And I was like, you don't stop dancing just because I'm screaming. I pay you to dance. Right. And so it was like, you're a violation. You're a violation. And so it was like, the cons are just stopped. And it was that Coachella main stage. So it was like, it's just helpful. Always have a union rep on hand so that you don't have to necessarily do that. You can actually have to somebody go into the crowd with a local 404 that had done the lighting all came down to get her back. I think somewhere like because I've mentioned this before, but like I came out at one of her shows at Shai Rani. Right. Remember this? And she didn't do any of that stuff. I think maybe just because Shai Rani and the dancing I was doing fell under parody law. Oh, yeah. She was like, this is cover. It's pretty all encompassing it. She's like, I don't want to be on the wrong side of the law, so I'm going to not do my normal thing. That's my theory, yeah. But also probably nobody tried to sing along to Shai Rani. That's pretty much impossible. We weren't doing this song. I was just dancing. Right. The bit was that I wanted to be her new backup dancer. How'd you dance? Well, you think video of that exists online? Oh, I don't know. It's worth a look.
Shai Ronnie. Did you have to get jumped into the dancers you didn't any because they do like a pretty severe beat down thing to get in that? Yeah, they fucked me up, but I relished it. That's life experience See here's one of the crap Somebody knew she said but be nice. He's a little shy. It's only Shai Ronnie That's a fucking red hot we were bro. You hear the crowd screaming You gotta kid it out. It's amazing too because it's not like Shai Ronnie has anything to do is saunter it was a reanna thing So it's just that the crowd still was like yeah, here he comes. It's the right room Oh my god, this is great. Dude, they're so happy to see you You do look shy Her outfit's so good Oh yeah, you're moving in the lamp. Yeah, she's loving this As soon you're trying to mimic these dancers your hands are pretty very sweaty you have to keep wiping them off on your pants Yeah, you're really just you guys in it in the back there So for those that don't bother to look up this video the chorus hits and Andy starts dancing big he goes from Shai the big dancing Kind of crook people still say that right the dancer. It doesn't seem to like what you're doing She's playing along as if she hates And now you're shy again. Yeah, should I got off to stage at that point, but it was it's impossible to do that in a live show You know, yeah, you're a weird thing to try to incorporate how many into like real cool guy shit Like but that was good. That was a very good life. Oh, it's like when Will Ferro comes in place cowbell behind the food fighters It's very similar to that only this is way more popular Why you've got to say stuff like that It's not a competition key. It's about art and how it makes you feel in your soul, you know, yeah, man It's like I can get to be unstoppable Good thinking Keith, okay So do we want to talk about after party? Fuck you, man. Yeah, that's should we listen to it? I don't think I've listened to it You thank you, man. He's wants to play more of her song Let's take it to the islands shall we? This is run the road going out to all the quads in the house You call right now seven four seven seven two seven oh eight five zero You can get a t-shirt if you can name Santi's last name. We don't have t-shirts and we have no way of contacting you and signing it It's like she's baiting everybody by putting those catchy little things in This one's like don't put them in the song anymore Santi if you don't if you don't want people to sing along to them because they're catchy and they're fun. Right. What are you gonna do though? I guess just not look at the bee. You've been staring at it the whole episode no matter how many times songs and granted their songs I also love but I'm not gonna just sit here and try to not try to get it, you know Can I admit something to you guys which I feel really guilty about now and since we're talking about unions and Santi and going to her shows and everything keep when we went I did notice that you actually sang along to some of them and I grieved you so I Grieving is one you actually like will call your union and you will you found a grievance make a grievance It's a it's an anonymous thing sort of thing, but I did grieve you and that's why you were you got that whatever it was like $70 So sorry. I just like it's been like 15 years of me trying to figure out who flipped on me. I'm so sorry For some reason you're your weakest on the zoom like the zoom chooses to mute you the most. Oh, like when Andy talks I hear him every time and when you talk half the time the zoom is like Nah, I don't need to hear this and maybe I'm too loud. No, you probably have a bad filter thing on your audio that fucks Your stuff. Yeah, or the zoom is using AI to be like not important. All right. You'll hear it later I sure will and I can't wait for that to happen After the club is the after party after the parties the hotel lobby and after that you know a storm and Chris and after that I say excuse me miss and after that we going back to the room and after that Just gonna be real soon and after that I crack one more beer and after that. I just stay up in the mirror and after that Stop freaking out. What the hell am I doing with my life? Call up my mom and get my cry on. I want a room service get my apple pie on after that I just walk the streets a homeless dude throws up on my feet And I see just how pointless life is full on existential crisis here at my close-hand scream of the sky Call to my knees and ask a lie I think I'm losing my mind What was the writing process? I mean I remember us all being in the room for this one. Yeah, Andy let's talk about it This was another classic, I wrote it down an idea and I actually found our old song ideas document So the original one is way more like a bossy. I'm just gonna just gonna zip through it after the party It's the after party after the party. It's the hotel lobby after that. It's the hotel room after that It's the next morning when I check out after that is the drive back to my apartment after that. It's time for work Back in my cubicle. It's time for filing and after that. It's the weekly board meeting After that, it's time for cold calls and after that, it's time for lunch and after that It's more cold calls and after that it's time for a snack and after that It's time to call my branch manager and after that it's time to head home and after I leave it's time for traffic and after that It's time for the gym and after that it's time for a shower and after that It's time to pick up my kids and after that time to change some diapers and after that time to argue with my wife And after that time to watch the news and after that time to put on my mouthguards next week. We're gonna do it again I gotta say I might like this better. I know, but I think we Nixed it because it just felt too like a bossy as my guess. Yeah, now this is loosely I mean, it's fully inspired by but loosely inspired by Fiesta the JZ part of the Arkelli remix to Fiesta, correct? I'm not sure if he's the first one to ever put these lines in a row No, this is a little bit of a trope. Well, it is a trope And that's why I was I was actually trying to remember if he was quoting something else when he was saying it This is where we need to land or request love to tell us who was the first person to remind us I think we would have known at the time, but then it definitely has eclipsed it who was first to say This is gonna go way back. This is gonna be fucking sugarhale gang I feel like the after the show it's the after party was old, but then him adding stuff was what was new And that's where the joke comes from because he was adding more and more became a real what know after the belvy Then it's probably Chris now do you guys agree with that if you start with drinking Belvedere vodka do switch over to drinking champagne after that I think that's dealer's choice. I feel like it's an interesting order. That's a flaw. I think Well, that's why he added the word probably. Oh, he didn't say after the belvy. It's definitely Chris Probably. Yeah, he said it's probably Chris, but it's open to interpretation. Yeah. Yeah, and by the way He said after the original it's probably this he's not even he's really hedging a lot here If someone's like no, the original is better than the remix on fiesta. He go that's fine. I just said it was probably better Well, he always had that cool thing about him where he was just like it's no big, you know I'm the greatest if you think so is it possible that he's talking about a friend named Chris I like I know a lot of people were referring to crystal at the time But could it be that he's talking about a friend of his just walked into the room right? So after the belveteer vodka Then it's Chris his friend. Maybe he actually was saying that Belvedere is coming into the room first Being held by Chris. So Chris is after the right, but what he knows for sure is that after the show and stay after party Then after the party. It's the hotel lobby. There's no doubt in any of that. Right then Some room for fudging if you want it. It might not be that order Hmm, it's a good song. I at least say that about my friend Jaxe Mansky who's from Milwaukee that he's the homie from the midwester So obviously we've ripped from the headlines of our lives because we would do the show at
and then go to the after party McCormick and check. And McCormick, fuck, super exclusive. - Hard to get in. - I mean, don't try to get into a McCormick and schmitz on your own guys. It's really, it's a waste of time. - It's a pretty exclusive nightclub. (laughing) - But hotel lobby, that's where they lost us. (laughing) We'd go home. Actually, our first few years we go to the after after. - Yeah, we would always go. - I mean, for a while. So after the after party, there's the after after party. It just doesn't, it's not as musical to say. And then we'd be like, and after the after after, then the sun is coming up and it hurts your head and you wish you had gone to bed earlier. And it's like, I really might have liked the other version more of just the, I mean, you know I would love just like a pure frustration joke of the most wildly mundane shit for like, you know, two and a half minutes. - So after party, we do that. Then we have a demo. Then we're at downtown. Then we meet Santee, then we're like, we do everyone to be on a song. And then she was down and recorded. - She was like, bet. - Yeah. - She was like, nothing to it, but to do it. - Yeah. By the way, everyone's like, no, new slang, bet. I'm like, what? - Yeah, that's from when we were two. - It's the oldest ever. I lecture my kids about that all the time. - They love it when you do that. - Yeah. (laughing) - All right, bet. You could jam home boy, no sweat. This is what I want you to do. Feel groove, let's move. - Yeah, they come to say the name. - Oh yeah, yeah. It's in our song "Incredibad", I believe. And that was us using old slang. - Exactly, we were being retro. - Yeah. - We all are, bet. - Exactly. And so I did it, and it was very funny. And it was fun being in studio watching you guys 'cause you're so silly. And I didn't have to do much. I mean, it's pretty easy. Or was it just that we decided it was too much like a boss? - I mean, we can talk about that there's a reference to like a boss in it. - Yeah. - Because we knew that it was the same structure. We wanted to let everyone know we knew that it was a similar structure. - We did occasionally have discussions about money and where to place money 'cause it would be an expensive video to do it properly, I think. - It's a lot of setups. - A lot of setups. - So I just brought up a picture. - I guess for those looking at YouTube otherwise, I can put it on Instagram or something. So Girl is a skateboard company, Girl's Skateboards. And Mike Carroll is a very famous Pro Skater. - Indeed. - When we would go to Embarcadero, early days when Embarcadero was, you know, making it's way into like Tony Hawk Pro Skater and chill like that. Mike Carroll and Girl and all these dudes were the shit like at the time and are still still are. So we were pretty pumped when this happened. - And so I asked Barnett to let us know how this happened 'cause there is a skateboard deck that is a Mike Carroll deck. That is the Lonely Island, hold on please. - Do we still have those decks somewhere? - I just took this picture this morning. I have this. The Lonely Island and Mike Carroll present After Party. And it is like comic book style drawings of Mike Carroll, but he looks like Andy in the blue turtle neck and chain from the album cover. And it's kind of depicting various moments in the song. - It's pretty fun. - He has his 30 day chip down here. There's pills everywhere. He's up on a mountain and he's naked, but he's covered in a snake that he's cut in half. So he's covered in snake blood. - Yeah, well, he's drinking it. - Right. And then what are you eating right there? Is that a piece of pie? - Yeah. - Right, 'cause you have pie. You've got champagne, there's your crystal. - Yeah, yeah. - You've got a lady. - This was the moment that I was like really excited that we were gonna become friends with Mike. And then we never even thought about that. - But I don't think we ever even met really. - No, we never followed up on our friendship. I asked Steve Barnett, our music manager. I said, "How did this come across again?" And he went and looked up his emails so he could tell me. This is me quoting his text back. - Oh, awesome. - You guys wanted to do something with girl skateboards, which makes sense, of course we did. But somebody must have asked us 'cause we wouldn't out of everything in the world have even been so bold as to ask for that. All right, we pitched them on a boom box deck, but they weren't feeling it. Finally had the idea to do something based on after-party. Like, I think this came to us, 'cause there's no way we would've just pulled that out of thin air. We like skateboard stuff. And I think he came to us being like, do you guys wanna do something with girl skateboards? They're looking to do decks based on music. And then we had said about boom box and they came back to us saying after-party. As they felt the imagery in the song lent itself to the format. The skater Mike Carroll was a fan of yours and wanted to do a collab with you for one of his pro-boards. Girl worked with the illustrator Sean Cliver who was based in Costa Rica to bring it to life. I just went through a bunch of old emails to recall this. Cool. That's amazing. Anyways. All right, yeah, so there's that picture. It's one of the coolest things that ever came out of our success with this stuff, I would say. So do you have Mike Carroll's info now? No, we've never met him or anything. Let's get him and say later skater. So I also found an email just on the after-party tip. We can decide if we find it interesting. I found the email when I sent Santi the demo. I wrote, "Here's the triggity track. Let us know what you think and he think. Keep in mind that I'm a really, really good singer when you listen to it." Well, let's hear your singing, though. Do you want to take a little taste of that? I don't know, it's up to your arm. I love that fucking good thinking, Keith. I love that one. You thought it would be. I laid it in the middle of your own pretend sentence. Yeah, and I wasn't even saying it. You are the nice one, Andy. No, I love that you're the singer of our group. Let's hear it. Let's hear it. Skip, do it. After the clubs. Does this have any alternate lyrics, though? Do we know? So far now, it feels pretty similar. And after that, they excuse me, miss. And after that, we go back to the room. And after that, just gonna be real soon. And after that, a crack one will be here. And after that, I just stay up in the mirror. And after that, stop freaking out. I want a room service, get my apple pie on. After that, I just want a room service ton. On the skateboard. And I see just how pointless life is. Full on existential crisis. Hair off my clothes and scream at the sky. Fall to my knees and ask God, why? This night, life is killing me. I think I'm losing my mind. I'm here to fly, yet I see Christ of the tillers is my dream. Stop, stop, stop, stop. It's almost identical. That you're doing like a British emo. What is the reference there of who you're sort of doing? Is this guy? It's more 80s than the 80s. Yeah, it's more 80s. No, yeah, in order. But bad, I don't think so. But you know what I'll say, though? The melody's there. Yeah, a couple notes got changed. And then when she does it, it's good. No more jerking eyes. Only knows what's in store. Christ of the tillers for me. And after that, I clean up my life. Join AA to make it right. And after that, I get my 30-day shift. What was the final lyric, rather? Something else. I mean, I know why we changed it. It was kind of boring. Nothing in my heart, but pain. Next week, we're going to do it again. This night, life's cut, it's hooks. Hit me, I'm back to jerking all. I tried what could not break free. Christ of the tillers return to me. I saw it in the club, and I moved to the hills. I really freaked out and drank snake blood. I myself clean up back in the club. And that's what happened in this zone. After the club is the after part. And after the club is the after part. And after the part is the after part. It'll space a little bit. So I can't cycle, I just can't win. And after that, it all happens again. OK, so we added more cool saunty stuff after there. Didn't need it. It's definitely goofier. This was before we knew how to use auto-tune. It sounds good, Annie. We also knew things were going to replace. So we were less particular. We didn't spend a lot of time on it. Thank you for protecting me and my feelings, Keith. Hey, it's cool. Yeah. Did we debate calling it Kristalline Tears? Yes, right? Yes, the original title was that. And we were like, just call it the thing that everyone's going to call it. Just fucking call it what they're going to call it. I mean, Kristalline Tears on Escape Board might be fine. Yeah. Yeah. Well, anyway, it was the fun one. And the best part about it by far was that we became friends with saunty. It's the coolest, but still a good and fun one. All right.
