A Week of Palm Springs, Vulture Profile, and Daddy Regrets
58m 30s
In this episode of *Andy Cohen's Daddy Diaries*, Andy shares highlights and lowlights from his week. He recounts a trip to Palm Springs for a friend’s birthday, criticizing the desert climate and the long drive from Los Angeles. A Vulture Q&A interview was published, and Andy confirms he stands by every word. A major parenting moment involved Lucy crying over a balloon; Andy initially refused to let her bring it to school, but a caller advised more flexibility, prompting him to reconsider his hardline stance. He also proudly discusses winning a school auction item—monthly cookie deliveries from a parent—for $1,500, outbidding a faculty member. Andy is preparing a commencement address for Washington University but admits it needs significant work. Callers weigh in on parenting and a recent reunion moment, with Andy defending his remarks about a cast member’s tenure. Overall, the episode blends personal anecdotes, parenting challenges, and reflections on his public persona.
Hey, it's Andy Cohen here with this week's chapter of Andy Cohen's Daddy Diaries podcast. The high highs and low lows of my life is a daddy to two kids and dozens of housewives. Joining me is always this my co-host John L. Hey girl, hi! This week, a weekend trip to Palm Springs to celebrate a friends birthday. Vulture interviewed me for a new profile and I stand by everything I said. Lucy cried because she couldn't bring a balloon to school and I got some parenting feedback about it that haunted me for the entire week. I mean this was just a runner for the week. My eye doctor's office, oh my god, more there. Lost my serious ID badge and I prepared for my commencement address to wash you. This is Andy Cohen's Daddy Diaries podcast. Monday, May 4th, 2026. Good morning everybody. Oh, it is the perfect spring day in New York City today. Wow, John, it's a headliner day. Bluebird day, isn't it? Gorgeous. Gorgeous and you look gorgeous. Thank you so much. Very nice outfit on his new shirt. Yes, I love it. You know that's my jam. Where is that shirt from? You know. Is that from Says, sir? Yeah, beautiful. I know. By the way, I can't find my ID again. So whatever. This bit, this Vulture interview came out today. I'm being honored, I guess, Thursday night as like they're doing a whole reality TV edition. There's all these people in it and I guess Kathy Hilton and I are the big honor reused Thursday night. And I sat with the reporter a few weeks ago not knowing that I thought this was a profile of me. It is a Q&A. So basically it is a Q&A of our entire over an hour together. I'm like, oh boy, when you realize that every word that you said at that lunch is going to be just transcribed as a Q&A. But I just went through it. I'm like, all right. I stand by every single thing that I said. So I'm relieved. When you came in today, that's what I was very and grossed with. I don't expect to hello. Okay. I did say hello. I don't expect it looking up from the phone or greeting. Okay. I don't expect that. I think when the mics turn on, the show starts. That's when we say hello and we greet each other. Okay. Well, I did greet you, but I just wasn't. I don't expect anything. I had, okay, we know. I just had some pre-work yet you expect everything. Angela and Pinkie just read each other for filthless. I watched it. I mean, that was good. Yeah. That was, I was quite amused. I mean, the thing about Angela, she can read without breaking a switch. She's like, she feels like an OG Atlanta housewife in a weird way. Yeah. Authentic. Speaking your mind. Yes. It's flowing. Yes. It's flowing. So I thought of you on Friday. I flew Delta one. Did you go to that lounge first? Okay. Went to the lounge first. And the fanciest lounge. The Hugo too. I went to your lounge. Delta one. The Delta one lounge. You didn't like it. No, it's beautiful. It's everything you said. Okay, thank you. Yes. And it's better. It's really nice. Yeah. It's very nice. They take care of you. There are different stations. The food's good. The food is not good. It's excellent. I can get steak free every time. Even if it's breakfast time. It's very good. It's really good. Yes. I'm so glad. Now, here was my issue. Okay. Flying Delta one to LA. You know, American, which is my airline, is the only airline I think now that still has like three classes of service. First business. Right. Coach. And so the American first is way better than the Delta one first because it's really business. The Delta one. Depends on the plane. Okay. Does Delta one have a first class, first class on some planes? Yeah. Well, you were able to lie flat. Yes. But I had someone next to me. Oh, yeah. Right. Depends on the seat too. Yeah. Over there, some seats that are so low seats. Oh, okay. That's where you got to go on the phone. Darren. So I don't like someone next to me. No. I flew to LA on Friday. I landed. I did this. There was a deadline, unscripted television, festival kind of. And I ran into everyone I've ever known or worked with. I mean, it was like people I work with now. I mean, it was like Rachel Smith and Erica Forstad and Ryan Flynn and Jen Levy and Stephen Weinstock and Eli Lair and just past, present, future. Darren was there. I mean, I was like, oh my god, this is so fun. So Carlos King. So just whole variety of people did a quick interview there. And then I had to go to Palm Springs to celebrate a birthday of a friend. And it was, so I left LA at 145 by car on a Friday. Oh no. To go to Palm Springs. You got to go either 10 in the morning or 7 p.m. It's like the Hamptons. So how long do you think it took me six hours? Five hours? No. Well, now it's sounding better. It took three hours and 50 minutes. That's how long it takes to drive to Palm Springs. Really? I mean, you should expect it. It should take two hours. Well, I came back yesterday morning. Palm Springs to LA X. Two hours. An hour and 50 minutes. Yeah. But if that was Sunday morning, 7 a.m. I'm not surprised. Yes. Now I will say this. The drive to Palm Springs is just ratchet. It is. You see why I hate Palm Springs. I do. And then you get, and then you get about 20 minutes outside of Palm Springs. And you're like, still hate it. Oh, this is beautiful. And the desert and the mountains. You're like, oh, I get it. I'm feeling it. Now let me say this. The temperature. No climate in Palm Springs. And John runs hot. I hate it. I hate it. I mean, I hate Vegas. I hate Palm Springs. I hate the desert. I like Stevie Nicks. But I don't give in. If I did shrunes, sure. Right. I'm not going to Coachella. Like, it's not. I need to go to a pond or a lake or a snow mount. Snow piece. It's really rough. It's a climate. And bitch, it's April. It's not. It's barely May. Right. Think of that August. Right. Oh, I can't even imagine. It is impossible for life to exist there. Why do we decide to build a mall? Yes. Where everyone can live in a mall. You have to stay inside air conditioning. If the zombie apocalypse happens, if the grid goes down, you're going to die. It's really rough. Don't take me there. It's the climate is very rough. I can understand how you could get into a rhythm and being by the mountains. Yes. So beautiful. If you're 87 in a home, yes. Anyway, it was interesting. I was like, wow, this is the climate. I also know that it's beautiful. It is nice and night. It's cool. The periphery also, like I've seen the CD parts of Palm Springs enough to know that just like the amount of meth, I just can't get it. I just don't like it. Yes. It's giving Aubrey O'Day. Well, came back yesterday and I flew back. And I think that I worked on my WashU commencement address a lot. When is that right? I mean, it's in like two weeks. So they're kind of tromping at the bit to see it. Now, I need to rewrite it. It needs work. It needs like major polishing. Can you email it to Bruce the Lanch? I mean, it wouldn't be the worst thing. But I may need you to come over and have me worried about for you. I just want to read it for you and have you tell me what you think. Well, workshop it. So that was good. I will say I heard from a listener who was listening to us last week when I was saying, "Oh, I have this, excuse me, a word I'm getting in New Parpeach." And I was surmising with you. How long will it take me to get back to LA and whatever? And the person wrote, you know, with all due, you're talking about like running away from New Parpeach and get back to LA. She's like, "New Parpeach is beautiful." And you're going to want to stay here. I then, and I was like, you know what? She's right. I then watched the first episode of Ultimate Girls Trim. Roring 20s. How swized? They start in California. And they start in Orange County. And I was, and I'm looking and I'm like, yeah, that listener was right. I don't need to be running away from Newport. Newport's gorgeous. And then I was like, how far is New, how far a drive? I just put in the peninsula hotel at Newport. I don't know.
where I would be staying. How far is the drive from there to the quiet woman? And they're like, it's 1.4 miles. I'm like, well, this is the home of my ladies. I need to show it some respect here. So I reframed my POV about that. - Just in this gorgeous town. - In case anyone's interested in knowing that. - I've been to the quiet woman. - You have. - Mm-hmm. - And how was that experience? - I didn't like it. - Oh, well. - Okay. I looked at a list of people who are attending the Met Ball tonight. - Oh my God, Dregs. - Consider the Dregs. - 90 years old. But I'm like, who that, who now? - Yeah. - Who said that? I was literally, I was like, oh, okay. Have fun at the Ball. - Yeah, I can't give. - It's so funny. - Wow. I mean, I mean, Zendaya's not there. - My time is done. - So I don't care. - My time is done. Now, John, did you watch the Erica Kirk video last week? - One million times. - I am so fucking loser, dude. - That was, talk about a big swing. - Yeah. - Wow. - What a big swing. - She did a really good job of showing us that she's not performing or acting anything. - No. - It's very, this is all very natural and real. - Did it make me think, you know, there are all these things that she was on her episode of Summer House and I go, she was in a party scene at Summer House. Which I need to dig into because I don't know how that happened and who and what and whatever. But it made me think, you know what? - She might have been good. - I was like, you missed a big opportunity. She's a performer, man. - We are poor for her not having, well, but your loss was our gain. Look at the entertainment she's providing us on a global scale now. - I was blown away with the rhythm nation, you know. - I mean, what a shitty actress. - Yes, yes, yes, wow, wild. - I mean, I'm picturing it in my mind. I can end the, the, the, (blows raspberry) - Oh my God, that was, that was wild. By the way, happy teacher appreciation week for any teachers who are listening. - You teach me a lot. - That's kind, you teach me a lot. - I am assuming it's not just teacher appreciation week at my two children's schools. I'm assuming it's nationwide, but thank you to the teachers out there. We love you and we love our teacher listeners. I got into a furious bidding war. It was Ben's, it was Ben's school auction last Thursday night. And I showed up to drop him off at school. Did I mention this? The gal who was passing out chocolate chip cookies in front of the school. - No, I don't think so. - Okay, so there was a mom passing out bags of chocolate chip cookies. And she said, it's lot number 400 and something at the auction. And the item is, I will bake cookies for your family once a month and drop them off at your house. And here's the sim, here's a cookie to show you what you will be getting. And I was like, what great freaking marketing of this mom to do that? I was like, and by the way, the cookie was great. I was like, I want this item. And I was like, this, I just thought it was so genius of this mom to stand there and do it. Well, I got in a bidding war. You know how much I paid for a year of chocolate chip cookies from this mom? 1500 bucks. - Wow. - Wow. - Yes. - A year is a lot of cookies. - It's a lot of cookies. It's 12 shipments of cookies. So what? I paid $150 per batch, which is a lot. - I'd do it for half. - I mean, look, it goes, obviously it goes to charity. - Right, it's for the kids. - But then I found out, I was betting, I was, so the head of the auction, I reached out to the next day and said, congratulations, looks like a big success, said, oh, you were bidding against, 'cause it was a silent auction, it was done online. I was bidding against the, someone on the faculty who's the parent advisor, who's apparently very upset that I got to item. But by the way, I'm not gonna take, I don't want that man who already works for the school to spend this kind of money. He already does enough for the school. So I was glad that I beat him. Or that he just make double the amount of cookies and give him the same one. - There you go. - Cookie of the month. - Doubling it up, just double the rest of it. - I need to see how much the watch went up in his life. Tickets went for, by the way, because I auctioned off four tickets plus do a shot with Andy Cohen before the show. So we'll see how much that went for. But anyway, I thought that was great marketing. When I got home last night, my children, I was like, are you the Brady kids? Like, they were so perfect. They were so sweet with me. They were absolutely. And then's like, tell me about your trip, Daddy. What did you do? Did you, I go, oh, we played games, Lucy's like, did you play any of the games like we play with you, Daddy? I'm like, who are you two? Like, why are you being so nice to me? It was amazing. I told them about the cookie delivery. My dad's like, that seems like the kind of thing where we could have cookies for breakfast when those cookies are here. I'm like, no. And then Lucy this morning cried for 10 minutes because I wouldn't let her bring a balloon to school. And you know, I am, I'm going to be a hardliner. And I'm not going to-- - No balloons. - What, no balloons? Just tell her just going to kill all the dolphins. You know what, I'm sure. - The balloons are bad. I read them a book about dolphins and whales last night. - Do you want to be a murderer? - Yes. - Okay, so Kathleen from Pasadena. - Pasadena. - Hey Kathleen, what's up? - Hey Andy. - Hi. - I'm wondering, and John, hi John. - Hey. - Why are you so convicted to cause trouble with Lucy in the morning? Why can't you take a spoon to school up? I'm a preschool. - Okay, I should have let her bring the balloon. - Well, it would make your morning wonderful. So play with the balloon on your walk to school, your poster beautiful, you look at the monkey. - Right. - She's playing with the balloon, she's going to be bored with it by the time you get to school. And then you go, whoops, there's a rule, no balloon in the class. I'm just going to keep it. - Right. - Like there's a certain negotiation. - Yeah. - With you, and I'm noticing for some reason, you're really digging your feet deeper deeper with Lucy, particularly because-- - No, I did it with him too, trust me. - Well with you and my follow you on Instagram, 'cause I love it so much of your post. - Yeah, yeah. - When he say, "Pick me up and carry me to school," you posted it and you thought it was the greatest thing. - No, no, no, no, no. I, I, here's the thing, she wants to be picked up. So she's saying my legs are tired. Pick me up. Like, what? - What my question is, why can't you as her daddy and protect her, pick her up for five minutes and carry her and give her the love she needs before she's away from you for eight hours? Not just you, all the little kids who come to preschool. It's hard. Maybe her husband needs an extra dose of that. Pick her up, hug her, kiss her. - Oh shoot, I don't know. - I feel like I'm-- - Well I think you share these stories. You share these stories 'cause they're funny tidbits of what happened, but for every story of you guys having an interaction about a balloon, whatever you also have super sweet moments where you are trying to hide the world. - Yes, well, of course. - You're just sharing about like sometimes you can't give into certain things. - I understand, you're giving her love. - He can give into picking her up and giving her a cuddle. Anytime she asks for it, it's essential. Because I know he does all these things. I pay to watch, listen to you, 'cause I love him. - Yeah, yeah. - And thank you. - But I'm just saying, girls are different. You are a girl dad. - Oh, love. - You're gonna have to find something different from a boy dad. - Yeah, really is true. - Well trust me, like, I just want to say, I don't want you to think I'm hardline on everything. Like this morning she wanted a gummy bear after breakfast. And I was like, absolutely. - No, but I was like, yes, come get a gummy bear. Come here, Lucy. Like, let's do it. So I'm not a psycho as what I want you to know. - I know, I don't think that you are. But for all your parents listening, really your kids have to regulate to be away. Sometimes eight, sometimes some kids are away for 10 hours. - I know. I mean, the thing is also that I know that she can't, I was like, look, she was like, I want to bring it to school, I want to bring it. And I was like, you're not allowed to bring a balloon. - There's some rules you gotta follow. - And so I also thought that the moment that I took the balloon away from her in front of the school was gonna be a whole scene as well. So, I don't know. - This is a negotiation. I know you can do it, do you do it with adult women? - Yes. - You talk about it all the way there. Oh, we're fun.
I'm saying with this we don't want anybody to steal your balloon or pop your balloon in the book. Pop your balloon and you are a negotiator. I watch you. And you say, yeah, yeah, yeah, more than you are. Okay. I'm right. Thank you. Appreciate it. I do that. I do that. I do that. Okay. Thank you, Kathleen. I would not want to raise my baby to be a baby. I think I might be on the side of like suck it up. You got to follow the rules. I'm tender. I love you. But like you got to joke. Like, bootstraps. I argue with my son every morning about taking like trinkets to school. Yeah. You just leave him at home when I was a kid. I used to try a bunch of shit. I was manipulative. It's like, well, but I need you. Like you got to kind of be like, you know, discipline a little bit. I would be a Joan Crawford down. Carol from Philly. That would be a monster. Hi, Carol. What's up? Hey, Andy. Hi, John. Good morning. Hi. I'm calling Andy. I just wanted to get your read. I know you posted about the both thing where she was like, come to the front of class and you said, I'm aware and on the haps. Yeah. And there's some, you know, people online saying that she was completely disrespectful to you and the way to read, you know, told you like, you ask her. She's right there. I just want to get your take. I mean, I think it's all banter. I think she, what I posted on threads, I think I responded to someone saying like, why, why did you have an opinion about this or something? And all I said was I, it's not been my experience with CMOs. Like I've worked with two CMOs in my 20 years of Bravo that both I think were out for 10 years. So like, but that's all I know. And then I said in this thread, but what do I know? Because what do I know? I don't know shit about the 10 years of CMOs. I don't. And then she texted me and she was like, she was, she's marketing officer. Yes. She texted me and was like, I'm going to have to do a video now and explain it. I was like, great. I love your videos. So, you know, I didn't, I didn't, I don't know anything about the 10 years of CMOs. It seemed based on my experiences at Bravo, which was that I've worked with two, you know, and I think Bravo is a big brand. You know, so that was my experience. But again, as I said in the thread, what do I know? Clearly, not a lot. Did you find it a little bit respectful now? Because the way I read it, I was like, well, why are you making such a big thing about this? It makes faces out all the reunions when somebody said something. I don't know. Clearly, it's very important to her. And so she stood on it, you know? Gotcha. Well, love you guys. Careway for part three of that reunion. Thank you. It's definitely bringing it. Thank you. And by the way, love, love, love Rhode Island. Oh my God. Thank you. Thanks. All right. Let's go to Lisa from Oklahoma. Hi, Lisa. Hi, Andy. I actually. Hi, Andy. I actually called last Monday to wish Lucy happy birthday. Thank you. And I told you at the time I was a teacher. I taught kindergarten. And I'm just telling you, you keep that balloon at home. You did the right. Oh, really? I think Kathleen. Yeah, listen, I think Kathleen is super sweet. Pre-school is a little different. And she's in preschool though. But she's like, she's a big preschooler. She's a big girl now. She's four. Right. And she's like, well, when you say that this is what something is, she understands that. Okay. And you got to hold that line. Okay. Such a good job with them. Okay. Okay. Because if you give them an inch, they'll take 25 miles. All right. Right. That's awesome. And so sometimes, no is just no. And sweet no. I mean, you're not screaming at her. No. You're just saying, no, we can't take that home today, Lucy. Right. So. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. There's some rules you got to follow. You're not saying. Look, I was also saying like, Hey, Lucy, I go, I would like to bring that balloon to work, but I can't bring it to work either. But I said, you know what? I'm going to play with that balloon with you when we both get home today. Like, and I can't wait. That's going to be so fun. And you don't want to murder the dolphins. You will be responsible for the death of several. Right. Right. Oh my gosh. Well, thank you, Lisa. I appreciate it. Yeah. You're welcome. Before I start questioning myself all day today, yeah. I mean, I think, but you know, it's funny because Ben has said, Hey, why are you being so hard on her about X or Y? And I say to him, dude, I did the exact same thing with you. I really did. Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Good morning, everybody. What is Tuesday? Oh my God. Oh, my God. Sorry. I just had to cough. It's. My God, Jordan. That was crazy. Good morning. It's sorry. It's just about to talk about how beautiful it is. But you should have let me bring my balloon. Oh God, not that again. I'm Andy Cohen with John Hill. Hey, hey girl. Okay. Good morning. Oh God. Have you read my Vulture interview yet? It's so good. I love a Q&A format. You're giving me shit. You're a bitch. Jordan, have you read it yet? I read it. Oh, good. I read it yesterday. Thank you. Thank you. I read it as well. Oh, Scott. I read it as well. Oh, Scott. I read it as well. Oh, my email in. Sign up to read it. Oh, wow. Thank you. It's kind. It was so brilliant. Shut up. You have such a way of expressing yourself. Stop it. In print, please. The journey. Um, now, you know what's so funny. All I do is now go to the. I mean, what's mildly humorous is this eye doctor thing that I've been talking about for years has been going on for so long of my war with the eye doctor, whatever. But now I go there so much because my gimp eyes on the cataract and the redo. Now there's the hot doctor that's been going on for so long. But I have spoken so much about just being ignored at this place and the doctor, not the main doctor, not knowing anything about me and being like, is it your first time here and all this. So now, everyone in the office is coming to watch what happens live. Like, they've all been there. So I go in there last Thursday and the gal in the front is like, I need to talk to you. The sister of the eye doctor who, like, has been ignoring me, she feels left out. She wants to go to the show now. And I said, or do you know that the irony is that this main eye doctor, like I couldn't get arrested by him. And now. So then the triple irony is his young protégé who's been doing the operations on me. He is bartending tomorrow night on Watch For The Evans Live. So you'll be able to see for yourself how handsome he is just so you know they all want to come. Now, along with the article about me in Vulture, there was, and I read it on the plane to LA last Friday, I did just want to mention, there is an exhaustive new breakdown and article very well researched about the entire Blake Lively Justin Baldoni affair. Now I thought that I had known everything too, but you know what? I've voraciously read it and I found it quite edifying and I also found both of them to be kind of horrible. So there is no victor, but he especially just, I found myself more on her side of this. He did some very questionable things I found making it. So just wanted to shout out that article. If you were looking for more information about that, then you should check that out. Is there any listener mail to go through in our, we're going to hold it because we're going to next week. We're going to do, we're just going to empty it. We have a time slot and I'm keeping that time slot so we can just rip through it and empty it. Okay, fine. Jordan and I went out to deep this week and we saw lost boys. How was it? It's great. It's my second time seeing it. It's really good. I had a great time. There's a few jump scares and I was gripping John Hills. Yes. Gorgeous. And I had to report her to Adam and HR. Yes. A lot of growing. You know what, what is cute? I lost my ID again today. I know I'm going to find it, but I was down there with the gentleman at security and they were telling me and they were like, it was taking forever. And I said, don't worry, I have all the time in the world because I got here so early and they were telling me. I said so with
knew with you and they said, well, all the dormant went to see all the security guys went to see Devil Wars product together. What gay? Because it was filmed. This is the building where Runway Magazine is and it's the exterior and they filmed a lot on the plaza in front of the building and they were all very excited to see the building in the movie. So I just thought that was just about the cutest thing I ever heard from the door man, from the security man. No, they've never talked to me here. Well, they talked to me because I lose my identity all the time. But also they helped me and they look out for me. They helped me. They look out for me. They need some an elderly man. Yes. So anyway, I just thought it was cute that they all went to the film together. That is cute. I liked it. Oh, good. They really liked it. I was happy the movie became such a blockbuster. It's a big head. Yeah, it's a huge head. Back with more from this week's Daddy Diaries after this. Wednesday, May 6, 2026. It's Wednesday. I'm Andy. This is John. Hey, John. Hi, good morning. Oh, yeah. I really got in my, really been in my head the last two days trying to, that caller who called in being like, I'm harder on Lucy than I was on Dan on Ben. I wound up giving her a piggyback ride to school today because of that caller. And I will say she was so happy that I did it. Yeah. It kind of made me. I don't know. but I'm gonna balance it out every now and then you just give a little bit more than usual. I guess so. Um, I also as I've been analyzing it, I think that I have treated them differently, but I think part of it is also because he was first and I have a different ideas now about how it should be done. Every parent will say that. Okay, I think, right. You learn something from the first. You do things I know my family, that was the way. Right. I would think so. Um, you find you're more strict with him and now you are a little bit more lenient with her in ways. There are things I let her get away with that I didn't let him get away with and there are things that I absolutely won't let her get away with that I did let him get away with. I was saying I think it's also because she's the second child that I have different matters. Does that resonate with you? Well, yeah, you know, it's like the first pancake. You kind of like learn with the first kid and then you sort of like, ah, that's a good book title about parenting. The first pancake. It's true. But yeah, then you figure out like it was like there were hills that I would die on with my older child and I'm like, why did I like that doesn't matter? Right. And then you kind of let it go. Right. Right. We're doing the best we can. Well, the stereotype is that, yeah, the first one is a lot of discipline and by the baby, they're just spoiled. Right. They do whatever they want. Yeah, you, the bar is set higher for the older child and then the youngest one. You're just like, are you dressed? I love pancakes. You're trying to do everything perfectly with the first one. Right. Yes. Yeah. I mean, there are, anyway. Um, another thing that's been up my crawl, this vulture piece that I've been talking about. Yes. Q&A. Yes. Um, in the intro to the Q&A, he talks about how I kind of, he's making the point that I like own the room and I walk into cafe cloning, which was my choice. And that halfway through the meal, I took my sport coat off and I put it on the chair next to me at the table next to me rendering the table next to me unavailable for the waiters to seat anyone else. Less they have to come interrupt me in an interview and say what time of day was this? Thank you, John. Was it a bustling busy? Okay. No. All the comments that I saw and it was just the day it was posted and I was like, you know what? You don't need to be reading the comments to this piece. But the first three comments were like, well, I know everything I need to know about this douchebag because he put his coat on the chair next to him. And what I really almost commented to make the point was it, thank you. It was we met at 2 p.m. Yeah. So by the time I put it down, it was 3 p.m. There was no one in the room. You wouldn't do that. If it was a packed restaurant, you wouldn't have done that. Of course I wouldn't do that. Thank you. I was like, you're a normal person. I don't think people really want you to be a monster. Yes. I mean, I just was like, I wanted to make that point. But anyway, well, we just made it. Yes. But I will say the article of the author of this piece, this guy, he did, he was not only so well prepared for this. He had read all my books. And he just, he was really well prepared. He also didn't arrive with a question written down, which I really admired. He did that entire interview there. And I kept interrupting him saying, you're not referring to any questions. Like I'm very impressed. Anyway, so he did, he did do a very, very good job. I was really interested to see that the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni settled. We didn't talk about this yesterday. Did you read this? I didn't read the whole thing. I saw the headline. Yeah, I mean, they settled and apparently no money was exchanged between either of them. How much money was spent on all of this? Well, that's what I want to know. Can you imagine? Because they must have spent like $5 million on this. At least I would think on legal fees. Because they were suing each other for massive, on some of us. Yes. $40 million at one point, right? There were so many lawyers involved. I cannot imagine how in the whole like, why would, why they wouldn't have just said, why she wouldn't have just said this was the worst experience of my life. I'll do a sequel though, but you have to pay me this. And I don't and Justin Baldoni isn't invited on the set. Boom. Like, yes. You know, and so settled means they were like, yeah, sorry. Like, what is it? What does settled mean? That's what I don't understand. Like, how do you settle? I read that she didn't get any money. And so I just wonder if he did. So, I don't know. Yeah, the settlement was confidential. So anything that's out is just sort of like hearsay. Oh, so they may, so there may have been money. There has to have been some who would have paid. But it, it was probably, hey, I'll pay you to stop suing and to be done with this. Yeah, I guess anybody see what would happen's live last night? No, I saw that. I did. Oh my God. How about? How about KJ reading that text from West on the air? When you said, can we get it? I literally was like, we've never had that. And then I saw it. Did you, when you said, can we read it? Then he was like, yeah, then did you panic? Thinking this was going to happen? I was very worried that there was either going to be something in it that West wouldn't want it out there. Or I was worried that KJ was going to have an emotional reaction to it that didn't need to be televised. So I was worried, and which is why I kept saying, why are I not kept saying, but I said, why don't you read it first and then decide? And then he skimmed it. I think while Darra was talking, and then he's, then I was like, what's going on? He's like, I'll read it. He almost did though start to cry. Yes, no, what did the text say? The text was, I thought an excellent apology towards KJ. And Jamie Lynn Seigler did too. Although a lot of comments think it's AI. No, they didn't like that he, that West said articulation, which is often considered to be a microaggression towards a black person. He said that it was an articulation of his feelings, using it. He didn't say he was articulate, which is a microaggression. Right. I'm just pointing out what the comments were saying. No, I understand, but in my recollection of the wording, I don't know. I don't think he said, oh, you were so articulate. He did not know. He said, the articulation of your feelings. So I wonder if that's a microaggression to say your articulation. I don't know. Can I also ask you another follow-up question just to play devil's advocate? Yes. Considering we have talked about sharing text messages publicly before, do you feel like this is a different situation than. Well, first of all, they're all on reality show. And they're all talking about when did you know and when did you hear and when did they text. And the other thing is I would. argue that in this case West is probably happy that he read that text because it was actually a it was you know it was kind of hard to argue with to the point that people are like wasn't written by chat GPD. We had to go early this morning to get flowers. It's teacher appreciation week still. So we had to get flowers to bring to the school and then pass out to the kids, which was very cute seeing them all with their little flowers. The kids give the teachers flowers. Yeah. You saw Titanic last night. Yeah, it was Tony nomination day and I already had tickets to go see them and it was amazing. Marlamon Dell's first nomination for best actress in a musical Constantine. I mean, they were nominated for best book and best musical. They're not best direction for time. But these guys for 20 years. That's great. Can I say something that could be considered controversy? Yeah. Is it because there's a dearth of musical that these shows are being nominated for best musical? Well, there's only four nominations because there aren't a lot of original musicals. Like are there revivals? This is every year. This is every year. Roles that weren't nominated. Yes. Oh, okay. Real women have curves. It was a great musical. That was not. Well, maybe that was last year. I think there's nothing. There's not a lot. I mean, listen, there's nothing to it. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not in Broadway. Like, remember that time, Aaron Tavett won best actor and he was the only nominee. Right. Like this happens sometimes. It's really, really hard to get an original musical that you've pulled out of your ass on Broadway. It rarely happens. So to have even four is yes. Yes. I'm not sure there were other ones that did beaches didn't. Wow. It's a rough season for musicals. Yeah. Well, that's very exciting. It's really exciting. It's great. I'm so happy with that. They must be so excited. I mean, this was an idea that they had. I saw a reading of it in L.A. and someone's like, ass crack garage. They're just sitting around a circle reading jokes. I mean, from that to best musical tuning nominations, it's like really now they could win. Yes. Wow. That's great. Good for them. So it's lost boys. Schmigadun. Wow. What a Titanic. And another one. Wow. I mean, I have not seen Schmigadun apparently. It's amazing. But like, you couldn't pay me to go to that. Oh, really? No, you could. I want to see it. But like, I mean, I just, um, I can't see everything. I know to see. Um, thoughts on last night's summer house. Oh, boy. It's rough. I haven't seen it. Oh, you have had a friend. It's hard to watch. Yeah. I'm just very emotionally wrapped up in it. And that maybe, well, by the way, when you see this fight between Carl and Kyle next week, there's so much emotion. It's, it's incredibly upsetting. I couldn't, I was very upset watching it. Those two is your friend still in town, John. He left today. Oh, really? Where's your friend from? Los Angeles Berlin. Wow. Oh, who was saying to me? Does John have a lover from Berlin? Who was saying that to you? Someone was just saying that to me. And I was like, now, but you do. You had a lover for, I want to see a picture. I told you about this. You told me the other day that you had someone in town over the weekend. I didn't realize it was from someone from Berlin. I did tell you about this. Oh, you told me it was from that he's from Berlin. Who asked you? Who asked you? I'm trying to remember. I may have been a listener. Uh-huh. No, who were, who were friends with? Like, it could have been Sarah Jessica or Alison Levy or, you know, someone, one of our regular friends who were a listener. I don't know. Thursday, a 7, 2020, 6. It is Thursday. I'm Andy Cohen on the dance floor with John Hell. Hey, John. Thursday's one of my favorite days of the week. Why is that? You're like edging out for the weekend. Yeah, it's almost there. You've done the majority of the week. Your week has taken shape. If it's a great week, you're ending on a high note. If it's been a bad week, you're almost done with it. Right, right. Um, yeah. Okay. I, I, I can vibe with that. Any big plans for this weekend? Resting. Yeah. Yeah. I have no help this weekend. So I'm not going to be resting at all. Yeah. But I'm kind of looking forward to it. I have a lot of there's a fair at Ben's school, a spring fair on Saturday. There's, he's got Sunday school. She's got a birthday party. There's like things in the schedule. Yeah. So we will. I had such an active insane week in this past weekend. So I'm going to lay low. Yeah. Well, that, that makes sense. I was dropping Ben off at school today and I saw the lady that I bought the monthly cookie delivery from. And I told her I said I did it because of your brilliant marketing in passing out cookies the other day. I said, I just, I had to recognize that. And she said, we, we need to talk about your cookie preferences. And I was like, Oh, and I go, well, chocolate chip. I go, that's, she goes, we'll know chocolate chips will be in there. But there are other varietals that you can have as well. It's like, what? Well, that's not wondering. I bet no kids eat nuts these days. I don't think so. I mean, my kids are not allergic. Thank God. But, I mean, I, you know what? I love an M&M cookie. So do I. Oh, I love when they're very tiny, teeny tiny M&M. teeny tiny little M&M cookies. I like big, teeny, M&M cookies. Big jugs. Back to the tits. Sorry. Um, got, you know what? Wash you is asking for my speech. I got an email this morning from Darren saying there, they need to lay eyeballs on this speech. I'm like, can I have the weekend because the problem is I started feeling really good about it on the plane home the other day on Sunday. But the truth is I haven't cracked it. And I have a major polish pass that needs to happen. Right. You need to do that this weekend. Yeah. That's what you're doing. So I said to Darren, give me to Monday. But I really need to. But with these children, like, when am I going to get it in your voice to be doing other things, you know, you should do record it into a voice memo. And then listen. And then listen to it. Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. I can't imagine anything more annoying than listening to myself. My parents are really making noise about not going to the commencement, which is really bumming me out their look. My mom fell, as I've said on the show, I haven't really like gone into incredible detail with what's going on with them. My dad's 93. And so they're just, you know, it's just harder for them to get around. But like they have seats, they have a golf cart to get them. There's wheelchairs if they want, like they're going to be set up. So that I'm talking to my mom about it. And it comes to be that one of the things that she's pinging up against is she doesn't want to wake up that early. She's like, my days of waking up at 7 a.m. to go do something or over. I go, well, trust and believe. If you had a 8 a.m. doctor's appointment, you would be up and like you would go if you had a procedure or something. And anyway, then in another conversation, she was saying, she goes, you know, I have to say like, I'm really happy with everything I've done in my life. Like I look back on my life. And I've done so much. And I've seen so much. And I've done everything. And I said, yeah. And I go, you know what? You haven't done. She said, what? I go, seeing your son give a commencement address at your alma mater, your daughter's alma mater, your brother's alma mater, your brother in law's alma mater and your mother in law's alma mater. That's how many people went to Washington, you. I've come to find out in writing a speech like, wow, I have a legacy. Grandma graduated from Washu in 1928. My dad's mother, the year I was born, my sister, cutter, MBA from there. My mom, class of 58. Him has an MBA? Yes. My uncle Robert, class of 68, year I was born. I mean, it's kind of incredible. I come from a long line of Washu people. And I of course, you know, was I too dumb to get into Washu? Maybe I didn't apply.
but I wouldn't have gotten it. - You've got it in Boston. - Oh yes. Washu is known as the Harvard of the Midwest. - Sure. - Washu is a really very hard school to get into and always has been by the way. When I was, I would like to say, just in case I haven't gone over this, I did get into all five of the universities that I applied to. Would you like the list? - Yeah. - All right. - Boston you, Tulane. - Syracuse, Wisconsin and Indiana. Yes, yes letters from all. - Wow, congratulations. - What schools did you apply to? By the way, John went, well John went to Pepperdine, which is a very hard school. - Is the Harvard of the Pacific Ocean? - Yeah, no, but it's, that's a very, well Stanford might be, but. But Pepperdine is a very hard school, right? - Yeah. - Oh really? - Yeah, yeah. It's an interesting school. It was easier than middle school. But I hacked the system. I hacked the system. - Because you were like from a super religious family? - Yeah, like listen, I don't think I would have gotten into even like UT. I just don't think that my, I think I was too dumb. I don't think I could. - Where else did you apply? - I got, yes, I applied to two, Northwestern and Pepperdine. - Did you get into Northwestern? - I did, but it would have. - Well that is a very hard school to get into. I got in, but it was on a music scholarship, a teeny tiny one, and it would have cost my parents hundreds of thousands of dollars. And I didn't wanna owe them that big. So I was like, I can either go to this school that I really wanna go to. It's freezing fucking cold. And I will owe my parents for life. Or I can go to Pepperdine, where it's warm and free. And so I chose-- - So you got Pepperdine on a scholarship? - I got a full ride. - Oh wow. - Oh that's amazing. - I think it was the right decision too late now. - Yeah, well I think so too. - It got me out, it got me to LA. - Yes, yes. - I wish the education maybe would have been a little bit more challenging. - You like that, my mind. - I just said it was easier than middle school. Is that what you're saying? - Yeah, but I was also taking, I was a theater major at Pepperdine. There wasn't a whole, all I did was theater. I really didn't take challenging courses. - Right. - Well you got a full scholarship in theater. - Well I got a theater scholarship but I got a lot from being church of Christ. - Got it. - So yeah, I don't know. I got a, so I'm hoping that my parents go to this thing. Happy Mother's Day everybody. - Happy Mother's Day. - I said to my mom the other day I go, do you want a deli platter for Mother's Day? - Three strikes. - She goes, oh you're joking. But she texted me later and said, she wants a terrarium 'cause I've bought her terrariums in the past. I need to ask Darren if she found the terrarium. - I've made a couple of terrariums. - Have you? - Yes. - It was a lovely activity I like doing it. - Yeah, it is cute. I have a terrarium at my house that I love a big terrarium. Jordan, do you have any terrariums? - I do not, no. - I'll make you one. - But thank you. - It's a fun activity. - Is it like maybe my son has one? - I'm sure it is. - It's one of those little glass balls that he has like sand and sand. - Yeah, but you can make them super groovy. - I put a little Yoda from Star Wars action figure in mine. It's really cute. - It's really tiny, like a little scene. - All right, that seems like a fun TV's kind of activity. - A very, yeah, summertime. - Lucy lost her. She had these little chacha heels, these little princess heels. She lost one. She's been hobbling along on one princess heel. And then I came in last night from the show and there was an Amazon box. I was like, you know what, we're not, we're supposed to be not doing this, but I opened it, I guess the nanny ordered princess heels for her. - That's cute. - So this morning, the little clack, clack, clack. - Yeah, this morning I went in to her room and she was hobbling around on her one thing. She goes down. And when I got the princess heels, when I opened the Amazon box, I hid it because I was like, you know, she's been asking for these, but it was just her birthday. I was like, I'm not just giving her princess heels 'cause she asked for them. But this morning I went in there and she's like kind of impishly kind of on one little chacha heel, you know, hobbling around. And she goes, daddy, will you get me princess heels? And I looked at her, I was like, this is stupid, that I'm like screw spoiling her. That lady called in the other day and got in my head about how horrible I am to her. I go Lucy, stay right here, Daria. She's getting them on the man. - And I'm in my room and I came back in, I was like, how's this? She was like, daddy, she was so magic. And then she's walking around on her little heels. She's like, Lucy, are you gonna wear those things Ben said? She's like, yes, she's so cute. Oh, Darian update on the terrarium. I'm getting the floors that she likes to make one. Oh good, I hope my mom's not listening. That's nice, okay. Good. Okay, that's good. I can cross that on off my list. Any comments on all of the Mother's Day threads that all the mothers, what we want for Mother's Day is the unedited summer house reunion. Have those come across your desk? - I talk to Bravo about that the other day. I don't think it's gonna happen. I wish they would. I think they should pay per view it for $100 ahead. - Oh my God, you make a killing. I really think they would make a killing. And in these days of every dollar counts, especially in this business, I just think, why not? - Give the mothers what they want. - I know, I know. I will say, people, I will say, there is a reason, I think it'll be a three part reunion. I, there is a reason. Like, look, it could be a four part reunion and there would be a market for it. But I think there is also a reason. It is relentless. - Yeah. - It is relentless. It's a lot. It's a lot. And it also, I have to say, and I said this at the end of the reunion, it was probably the most fun season of summer house there was and the least fun reunion we've ever done for summer house. So, you know, anyway. - You're fun. - You're not dissuading me from wanting the rough footage. - Right. - Okay. - But I understand what our program means. - I understand what you're saying. - Sorry, mom. - I have a big meeting after the show today about, I'm redesigning the lighting on my terrace. I want it to be lit up like a freaking spaceship. I want it to be like a fairyland up there. - Oh, that, yeah, like little hidden glowing moment. - All bets are off. I'm like. - You want to be the W Hotel? I got a guy. - I kind of do. - A midsummer's night's dream. - A midsummer's night's dream is what I'm going for. - I know what you're going for. - Yes, I want it to be free. - I want it to be in the bushes. - I want to be running out there like a nudie. - Yeah.
