A Castle Built atop a Gateway to HELL || Houska Castle || Ghosteas || Paranormal Podcast

Hauska Castle, located near Prague in the Czech Republic, is steeped in eerie folklore and paranormal legends. The castle sits atop a massive limestone fissure believed to be a "gateway to hell," with local tales of demons, half-animal creatures, and prisoners being lowered into the crack. One such prisoner returned aged and with white hair, fueling speculation about supernatural or time-travel phenomena. Historical records suggest that during the 13th century, the structure was built on top of the fissure, with internal defenses and no external access, indicating a deliberate effort to contain something beneath. In the 20th century, during WWII, the SS occupied the castle, and rumors persist of occult experiments, demon-hunting, and unethical breeding programs. Visitors frequently report unexplained screams, shadows, and poltergeist activity, including the sighting of a faceless black monk guarding the portal. Paranormal investigators, occult enthusiasts, and event organizers visit the site, drawn by its rich, tragic, and mysterious history. Though no concrete evidence confirms these claims, the blend of ancient legends, wartime history, and personal encounters makes Hauska Castle one of the most haunting places in Europe. The segment also briefly introduces modern solutions—Progressive Insurance’s customizable coverage and Monday.com’s AI platform—offering practical tools for everyday challenges, contrasting the chaos of the paranormal narrative with real-world organization. Ultimately, the story blends history, horror, and mystery, presenting a compelling case for the castle’s enduring reputation as one of the world’s most haunted sites.

Hi, Ghosties.
I'm Macy.
And I'm Natalie.
And our story today begins in medieval times, about 47 kilometers north of Prague.
A local prisoner has just been given the death sentence.
He's grieving his impending punishment, but just as he believes all
hope is gone, he and his fellow prisoners are presented with another option.
They can take their death sentences and await their scheduled executions.
Or they can follow local officials to a mysterious crack in a nearby cliff.
Now, this dark, cavernous hole in the ground had been a source of great intrigue for many
in the village for some time.
And the rumors that our prisoner had heard were enough to give him goosebumps,
simply thinking of its location through the thick forest.
But he was willing to give up.
He was willing to do anything that could save his life.
So he and the brave few who decided to take the chance are brought out to that cliff.
If these men would like to leave on this day with their freedom, then they will volunteer to be
lowered down into the depths one by one and report back what they witnessed below.
As the first man is lowered slowly further and further down, you could feel the tension
between them all.
It's quiet at first until a piercing scream erupts from the hole.
Those holding the rope pull him back up while the others gather around back away.
Faster and faster, they pull the convict up.
But it isn't fast enough.
Oh my god.
I'll tell you the rest of the story later.
Ah!
But the castle that now sits atop this supposed gateway to hell,
Hauska Castle, is surrounded by legends of monsters and demons crawling from the pits
of the underworld to wreak havoc on those who live nearby.
And it remains something of a mystery for those who visit.
Today, I'd like to tell you that story.
I've never heard of it.
I've never heard of this.
It's in Prague, so I wouldn't, or not near Prague, so the Czech Republic.
Huh.
Yeah, but I think the gateway to hell and something so scary, like I would have heard
of it before.
Yeah.
Maybe I have.
There are a few other gateways to hell in the world.
In Galveston.
Oh yeah, a portal to the underworld.
Horrifying.
Well, for this October, every Monday for this month, we'll be telling the histories and
haunting mysteries of some of the world's most horrifying haunted houses, or in this
case, a castle.
It's a castle.
They're a Halloween staple, and in my opinion, some of the best kind of stories to really
get you in the spooky mood.
So I thought, October's for haunted houses.
I love it.
Are you going to go to any haunted houses this season?
I don't know.
I haven't been to a haunted house in a long time.
Me neither.
You know, like the jump scare ones?
Yeah, like a real one.
Like the 13th floor or whatever.
I probably haven't been to one since I was maybe even in high school.
Same.
I saw a billboard.
Well, I was in college probably, but I saw a billboard for the 13th floor in Houston.
I've heard of it.
I've never been.
And I don't know that I would go.
Have you heard of those places that you have to sign waivers because they're so horrifying?
I think that's kind of like what the 13th floor is, and I might be wrong.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I would ever do that, actually.
I don't want anyone jumping out at me and coming after me.
I don't want anyone to touch me.
You know the ones where they can grab you and snatch you and take you away?
Yeah.
I'll pass.
I'm okay.
I'm good, actually, I think.
But I don't know.
If y'all are going to any haunted houses or if y'all know any good ones, drop them in
the comments.
Oh, yeah?
I want to look into it.
I'd like to hear about it, too.
But we'll go ahead and get started.
Our tea today was actually sent over by one of our friends over at Spotify, Millie.
Shout out, Millie.
Thank you, Millie.
It is from Dead to Me Collective by Wynwood Farms.
This one's called Phantom, an Earl Grey-inspired tea.
Yes.
It smells delicious.
It called to both of us.
When we got the package of the teas, Macy showed it to me, and I said, that one.
She's like, that's the one I wanted, too.
Yeah.
It says, each sip unfolds like a tale of love, sorrow, and redemption.
Where darkness is softened by devotion, and resilience lingers in every cup.
If I am the phantom, it is because man's hatred has made me so.
If I am to be saved, it is because your love redeems me.
These profound words echo through every sip of Phantom Earl Grey, and the tea unfolds
like a tale of love and resilience.
One of my favorite movies, by the way.
I know.
I used to watch it on repeat for a while.
Yeah.
Anytime I'm having a bad day, I watch Phantom of the Opera.
Haven't seen it in the theater.
You have.
I'm insanely jealous.
It was so fun.
But I'm ready to try this tea and talk about this supposed portal to hell, I guess.
Ausca Castle, yeah.
All right.
Let's go.

Delicious.
Earl Grey.
Yeah.
Delicious.
We love an Earl Grey.
It was kind of flowery.
It was like a more flowery Earl Grey.
Yes.
Yeah, yeah.
And I liked it.
In the package, it had like little blue or purplish looking flowers in there.
Did you see it?
Some Earl Greys do.
Yeah.
It was, it's good.
I like it.
I like it.
And like a basic Earl Grey.
The tea always makes me feel very ghosties.
You know what I mean?
It was like one of our first teas, wasn't it?
I think so.
If not the first one.
Before we dive into the paranormal side of things, of course, we want to start with the history.
Hauska Castle is located in Blacidocsi, as I said before, not far from Prague in the Czech Republic.
Apologies for my pronunciation.
I'm trying my best.
Today, it is visited by many throughout the year and hosts tours from April through October.
It is a protected cultural monument and is considered one of the best
preserved castles of the period even before the castle's construction in the 12th century it is
believed that celtic tribes inhabited the area before the slavic tribes migrated into the area
during the 6th century it was documented that the first known structure to exist in the area was a
small wooden fort built around the 9th century so like in the area of the castle theories claim
that this original wooden fort is how hauska castle got its name as the fort was built by a
for his son named hosek i think so it's like named after him but kind of yeah loosely yes
a lot of what we know about the area was chronicled by a man named hajik in 1541 and
in his chronicle he mentions a well-known legend of a large crack in the limestone cliffs that is
so big and so deep that no matter how many stones and other materials the villagers threw into it
it would never fill it's limestone it is limestone lines limestone and sandstone
hmm
they believed it harbored dark secrets but more on that later
real quick i feel like i always say like oh it's limestone ah and then never give any context so
for people that don't know limestone is known to be like what it just carries like a lot of energy
it's it holds on to energy and like the especially this kind of like ghostly it's involved in a lot
of hauntings and things and we we learned that early on and then every time we're reading a
story and it's like oh it was near the limestone reserve and it's like it makes sense
yes very interesting i find it interesting that the villagers were like this is strange let's fill
it up couldn't do it nope very scary the gothic style castle that we see in this spot today is
said to have been built on top of this massive opening sometime between 1253 and 1278 by king
odekar ii of bohemia though some believe that the work may have actually begun under his father
before him and this castle is different from many others of this time it's thought to have been built
firstly for administrative purposes
which sometimes occurs as a place where the landowner could come and handle business in the
area but the site has no real characteristics of a typical castle ground so usually you'll find
castles even if it is mostly for administrative purposes along trade routes near big bodies of
water or places that it makes sense yeah sources of of commerce something like that this one is
tucked deep into a dense forest some of the sources even said that the forest was so dense
it was a difficult place to even hunt
for food there is no nearby water source not a substantial enough to provide for anybody living
there rather the castle would have had to use a cistern to collect rainwater there were no trade
routes nearby so it was pretty desolate no one was traveling through it's where i would build my
castle at least i don't know it sounds like a good idea to me i agree a heavy stone slab was placed
over the opening sealing it up and keeping whatever called that place home locked away for
eternity or that was the hope it was
anyway even stranger most of the structure's defenses are facing inside the courtyard and
the castle rather than around the outside like you'd expect to protect you from invaders like
if you look at pictures of the courtyard you've got the base layer uh floor i mean and then up
you've got you know like railings uh and walkways to walk around the courtyard looking down into the
courtyard like a like a prison type of thing like they're keeping something in yeah interesting it
was as if there was a prison in the courtyard and it was like a prison in the courtyard and it was
a threat that they were trying to keep in was my next sentence there were no stairs that led from
the upper floors down into the courtyard either until remodeling took place hundreds of years
later this is alarming so it was only the the second like third yeah maybe fourth floor yeah
the first known written mention of the castle was in 1316 when hinachek of the lord of dubai
was recorded as of hauska ownership of the castle passed on from aristocrat to aristocrat in the late
1500s the structure underwent a renaissance style remodel in 1639 another important piece of its
legend arrived a swedish mercenary named oranto is said to have occupied the castle at this time
he was a feared commander and was known to be obsessed with dark magic and alchemy it's rumored
that he carried out many horrific and gruesome experiments during his quest for an elixir for
eternal life the details are sparse but it's said to have frightened the local population so much
that they banded together to get rid of the castle in 1639 and they were able to get rid of the castle
in a revolt against his cruelty of whatever was going on inside they stormed the castle
and murdered him and all of his mercenaries who lived there oh my god they said get out yeah well
you're an evil guy and we don't want you here doing your evil things wow i support them the
castle fell into a state of disrepair in the 1700s and remained that way until the early 1800s when
it was renovated once more it was purchased and a home was made of it by princess ho in loa in 1897
about 100 years after those first renovations in 1924 it was purchased by the president of
skoda works yeah you make like cars and stuff his ownership and restorations are a big reason why
the castle still survives in as good a condition as it is today so yay for that guy unfortunately
during world war ii the german ss occupied the castle and this is another piece to the puzzle
a weird one as to why there are so many strange reports coming from its corridors hitler and the
nazi government have been fighting for the castle for years and years and years and years and years
nazis are believed to have been very interested in the occult i mean a lot of people believe that
and are said to have been looking into supernatural methods to fight and win the war
nobody truly knows what the ss was doing while occupying this castle but many speculate that
occult research and experiments were conducted here harnessing that supposed portal to hell
it makes me kind of think of stranger things yeah like they are trying to use this portal to
wherever the upside down did you watch stranger things yeah i did i haven't watched
last season though this is a lot darker than i thought it was about to be i mean we already said
like it's a portal to hell and everything but like the nazis like what are we doing yeah unfortunately
i mean oh my god during during the world war ii um the ss occupied a lot of like very well-known
structures yeah but like i was thinking weird things yeah i was thinking as you were talking
i was like oh i want to visit this place this sounds cool like a castle and then i don't know
well that's too that's like too much uh negativity for me this next part might get
you a little bit negatively or in a more negative space yeah great locals would report strange
lights in the night and horrifying sounds escaping from the castle they could see them through the
windows some say that top nazi officials including people like himmler attended dark ceremonies at
house good castle so they were they were doing some dark rituals to i don't know summon demons
or harness a very evil power evil whatever they were doing straight always bad straight up evil
yeah some say that the castle was also used to kill demons and they were used to killing demons
to store stolen jewish and masonic library collections and other valuables which they
did too they stole a lot of books yeah and um when i think about that art and stuff it like
makes me spiral it pisses me off all of the lost art and things and just artifacts and
yeah just history another rumor is that the ss used the castle as a quote
breeding facility so if you know a lot about world war ii era and what what the ss and
nazis were doing then you know that this was a thing um they would bring you
young women of particular origins with particular characteristics to have children in order to
advance the so-called master race absolutely just freaking despicable disgusting this is horrifying
yeah either way unspeakable things are said to have occurred within the castle's walls between
1939 and 1945 and we will never know exactly what happened as they destroyed most of their
records as allied forces advanced on them which they did a lot in in many cases they were just
like burn everything yeah get rid of everything losers once the war was finally over possession of
the castle was given back to the previous owners and his heirs still own it today having opened it
up to the public for tours in 1999 it's been featured on plenty of paranormal tv shows and
youtube channels and its reputation as terrifyingly haunted remains many of the claims about the
castle's hauntings come from rumor and legend as i feel like most of everything does a lot yeah
there isn't a lot of concrete evidence for the atrocity said to have been connected to the land
though we can guess on some of it and to the castle itself but the stories are strange to
say the least the first story is that to the gate to hell down beneath the castle's chapel
as i said in the beginning it was reported that before the castle was constructed
a massive fracture in the limestone opened up long ago the local residents couldn't see the
bottom and had no idea how far down it actually went attempting to cover it like i said they
threw stones and debris down to the hole but they couldn't even hear them hit the bottom
that is horrifying i don't like that far i don't like uh like in movies whenever
they're like in a height they're like at a tall height
or something they throw something and you hear that way down there it it makes me like i can't
breathe yeah i don't like things like that yeah it's really creepy well soon after this pit opened
the local villagers began to complain of nighttime visitations dangerous creatures sometimes described
as half animal half human would climb or sometimes even fly out of the gateway after the sun went
down they would tear their livestock apart and were occasionally known to drag those nearest the
back down in with them never to be seen or heard from again i was thinking like uh the descent oh
well that of course like cave cave half animal half dwelling beings yeah yeah horrifying villagers
began avoiding the fissure in the rock altogether not not wanting to even be near it because of what
comes out at night yeah it seemed there wasn't much they could do to get rid of it and the
monsters that emerged could only be described as demons straight from hell eyewitness accounts
were rare as many who actually saw the creatures wouldn't live to tell the story
the tale. Oh my god. Officials became
desperate to find answers so a plan was devised prisoners who were sentenced to death could have
the option to commute their sentences they could be released if they agreed to be lowered down into
the pit to hell by a rope that is insane and then of course um those at the top tell those at the
top what they saw and experienced it did anybody ever come out or were they just well lowering them
down there and letting them come back as bones i'll tell you so the first convict was brought
down he was silent at first going deeper and deeper into the darkness like the story i told
you at the beginning but not long after he'd made it into the depths he began to scream in great
agony and fear he begged and pleaded to be brought back up to the surface the officials holding the
rope pulled him up as swiftly as they could while the other convicts looked on in horror like this
what we're because they're next yeah when they finally pulled the man out of the hole his face
had aged at least 30 years and his hair had turned completely white he was young and healthy
before he was born and he was born again and he was born again and he was born again
vibrant young man but now he seemed to be in a state of great shock and illness his addled brain
keeping him from relaying to those around what he's he had witnessed he died not what i was
expecting he died only a day or two after coming back from old age like yes well old age illness
shock but also shock and horror what after seeing the horror on the young man's face many of the
all ended up in the same position as the first man nobody ever found out exactly what was down there
did his hair actually turn gray or was it covered in some kind of substance no his hair turned white
like i don't know what to make of this as if suddenly all of his hair lost its pigment like
he's just tim allen and the santa claus yes like it's just gray and old yep wild rather than continue
to be tortured by the beasts that crawled out at night it was decided that a giant slab of stone
placed over the hole and church was able to get out of the hole and he was able to get out of the hole
was built on top dedicated to archangel michael known as a warrior for god who defeats evil and
leaves a heavenly army against satan and his demons so an apt angel to bring about makes sense
yeah strangely enough dead birds were still regularly found in the courtyard around the
castle as if they were plucked from the air by an invisible force those who lived nearby still
heard screams and screeches and ungodly noises bursting from the cover and there are some who
say the slab would be slightly ajar in the mornings as if something attempted
to move it out of their way oh my god the castle looks as though it was built around this opening
and the fact that the fortifications were made to the inside rather than the outside as well as the
unusual location of the castle in the middle of nothing leads some to believe that it was all put
into place to keep something from escaping inside the chapel you'll find remnants of fresco
paintings that depict strange things for a typical church building there are images of
monsters and dragons as well as a left-handed which was considered to be associated with satan
in medieval times being left-handed left yeah yes um it was a female a left-handed female centaur
aiming her arrow the mix of christian and pagan imagery inside of a church is really interesting
to many and leads some to believe that there is something evil lurking beneath and they were just
like giving it everything they got everything yeah oh my gosh even still today there are some
who claim to hear scratching noises and screams coming from beneath the chapel's floors it's as
if those ancient beings are still trying to claw
themselves out of the bottomless pit in search of blood but the gateway to hell isn't the only
unusual thing about this place surprisingly what okay many people have claimed to see something
unexplainable and otherworldly while walking the grounds of the castle there is a creature that
some believe was able to escape the deep dark hole in the ground that's described as a half
bullfrog half human hybrid beast thing that is one of the most horrifying images i could ever
imagine yes some people have claimed to see a headless horseman riding around um the outside
of the castle leaving a trail of blood in his wake outside the castle huska has its own woman in white
with long dark hair seen walking through the woods around and even in the upper floors of the building
too on occasion visitors to the castle have been known to experience car trouble like an entire
parking lot full of cars being unable to start until a priest blessed them with holy water no way
could you imagine going for a tour and everybody's car won't start while i'm walking the 70 miles or
more would you get back in the car would you feel safe getting behind yeah i would just go slow i'm
not walking through the dense forests back to prague as a big group i would i wouldn't get back
in a car that's really scary uh there are some who believe that merely visiting the castle brings bad
luck and there are so many visitors who have claimed to get a very dark and negative feeling
upon walking through those castle doors owner and operator of a tour group mcgee's ghost tours in
prague hannah mcgee claims that she had an encounter kind of like this one the first time
she ever visited huska castle
she and the company's co-founder tyler mcgee took their dog up to the castle but as soon as hannah
walked into the courtyard she was met with an extreme uneasiness her dog then began to bark
and was very just excited with no visible reason for him to have been provoked the mcgees felt as
though they were being watched the entire time they toured the place like a predator was stalking
them just out of view and then even later that night when they got back to prague to run their
ghost tour their car was like stolen and then when the police finally found it like it was completely stripped
of all valuables oh so just like bad luck but that just like they aren't the only ones that
have bad experiencing bad things yeah visiting there have been many many reports of poltergeist
activity like banging sounds echoing through the building doors opening and closing on their own
and objects moving from one place to another without anyone nearby inside the castle people
have reported seeing shadow figures galore they traipse through the halls oh my god hiding around
corners and in doorways disappearing in the blink of an eye some have claimed to see a row of
prisoners chained together and walking slowly through the castle preceded only by the clinking
sounds of their restraints in the castle not only are there screams and scratches coming from beneath
but there have been witnesses who reported hearing voices speaking loudly in an unrecognizable
language it seems to those who have heard it that the sound is emanating from the walls themselves
as if the castle is speaking to them offering maybe a warning protection or worse luring them
closer
mm-hmm
but the most reported sighting here at Hauska castle is the faceless black monk that is said
to guard the opening to hell nobody knows exactly where he comes from but he waits in the chapel
keeping curious onlookers from getting too close or making the grave mistake of digging down beneath
that large stone like he's like a fully black figure or he's wearing black he's wearing like
a black robed monk no one can see his face oh but he's there as a guardian to keep people from
opening the pits of hell well then maybe he's not bad maybe unless he'll
do anything to keep the door closed well i i still don't think that that's bad because he's
protecting i support it yeah i mean i wouldn't want to see him by any means but i'm okay i'm
okay with the guard i also a quick interesting tidbit that i forgot to mention in here was that
the current owners don't allow any like digs or searches through the castle like too deeply
because they're afraid that there are still like world war ii um era booby traps oh and stuff in
there and they're afraid that someone could someone could get hurt yeah yeah oh that's really
they removed all the mines leading to the castle beforehand but they don't know like if there's
anything deep down you know the current owner of the castle has had his fair share of encounters
like his wine glass sliding across the table in front of a whole crowd of people without any water
or glass on the table to send it moving because you know sometimes just set a cup down if there's
like condensation on the table yeah he said no table completely dry everyone just sat down
he set his glass of wine down and it just like slid
that's really little by little across the table i don't like that also while in the castle he
felt eyes on him as if he weren't alone in there quote i do believe that something between sky and
earth exists if it's connected to the hole into hell i guess you know the legend smoke coming up
from the ground and nobody can block it the hunting room is well known for its hauntings
and has had many visitors who experience their own close encounters with something unseen
the owner tells a story of two musicians a grandmother and her granddaughter who stayed
often they would sleep in the hunting room over the weekends many many times but on one occasion
they brought a friend with them someone who was supposedly a more sensitive medium on this night
the women heard stomping and wheezing all night long after attempting to i don't know make some
kind of contact the three of them left very early early the next morning and the two that came often
never returned rightfully so that is the correct choice thank you but they aren't the only ones who
had an unusual encounter
in the hunting room andrea a paranormal enthusiast and investigator brought her team for an overnight
visit to house good castle they arrived around midnight and set up their base in the hunting room
as they were unpacking and having a look around they found that a room nearby had an overwhelming
negative feeling to it they walked in and they said this something's dark here they were becoming
panicked by it and they couldn't breathe so they made their way back to their the hunting room
their their base of operations and drew a protective circle with sanctified chalk
to see their circle keep yes real pretty much they lit a candle for protection as well and they waited
nothing seemed to be happening everything was quiet they blew out the candle as a little test
and not long after the whole team began to hear footsteps coming down the stairs straight towards
them in their circle oh no as it approached and the group became concerned footsteps suddenly
stopped then a minute later they heard a loud bang coming from the ceiling above them it sounded to
them as if someone had dropped a barrel and they were like oh my god what's going on here
oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god
they lit the candle again and once again it all went quiet
It felt to Andrea like whatever it was that was there with them that night didn't like the circle and the protective object that they brought, and it wanted them to leave their circle of protection.
Oh, oh.
I don't know if trying to lure them out.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I don't like that.
By the time Dawn came around, they all heard footsteps again, but the sun was coming up and the tension was kind of leaving.
That is until Andrea saw a shadow figure walk right behind a wardrobe.
There was no way that she could explain what she had seen.
And even more worrying, there was no explanation for the loud banging that they had heard the night before either.
So they went around inspecting the entire castle.
Trying to see, like, oh, did something fall or, you know?
Nothing.
And they were there alone.
I'm not a fan.
See, you always do this.
You're like, wow, it's this beautiful piece of history and it's a castle and it's grand.
People can go for tours.
But the worst thing you've ever heard in the world has happened here.
Yeah.
Dang it.
I kind of, I wanted to go and now I don't.
Well, the most haunted places always have the most horrific, tragic backstories.
That is true.
Maybe one day I will actually want to go to one of these places.
But I think for now, until, for right now where we are in this story, I don't think I'd go.
Would you?
Okay.
Yeah.
Of course.
You know that feeling.
Too many updates.
Too many meetings.
Too many things falling through the cracks.

Fall never arrives all at once.
First the air.
Then the light.
And slowly the things you love begin to find each other.
A jacket meets a dress.
A hoodie slips beneath a blazer.
An old cap finds a new scarf.
Because you don't simply step into the season.
You create it layer by layer.
Until it finally feels like fall.

A number of paranormal investigators, occult enthusiasts, and individuals interested in UFOs visit Hauska Castle.
Not only looking for an experience of their own, but to serve as a meeting place to hold conferences.
And events.
Which I think is really cool.
To have a paranormal event or conference in a haunted castle would be the light of my life.
That would be fun.
I think I'd be less scared going in like a large group like that.
Yeah.
If it was just like me, you, and like a couple people, I don't, I wouldn't go.
Well, they hold like talks and you've been to a convention before.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's cool.
I would do that.
But I wouldn't go on like a night ghost tour or night ghost hunt, which is like me, you,
and like two dudes.
I wouldn't do that.
Yeah, I would.
I think.
Many of those visitors have encountered one of the many unexplainable circumstances that
befall those brave enough to step foot inside.
Some of these believers think there is a principle of sacred geometry that can explain Hauska.
Now, don't ask me how.
Because I don't know.
But in this case, it isn't just a portal to hell, but a portal to another time.
Well, it makes sense when that guy got like turned to old.
Turned to old.
Turned old.
In 1836, a well-known Czech poet named Karol Máša spent the night in Hauska Castle.
In a letter to his friend Edward Hendel, Máša detailed a strange and horrifying dream he
had during his stay.
He claimed that his soul descended down, down, down into a dark pit where he was transported
to a hellish, mechanized future.
He wandered around alone at first in horror and despair before meeting a young girl who
told him that the year was 2006 and he was in prison.
The girl showed him moving pictures and a small casket, and he claimed that while in
the darkness, he walked among high sandstone cliffs that seemed to be riddled with holes
projecting an eerie yellow light.
Those who have heard the story say that his description sounded similar to a block or
several blocks of flats that they have today that sits over, like overlooking the outskirts
of the city.
So they kind of look, especially at night, just like tall cliffs with windows and their
living room lights or whatever.
Wait.
What year was this when?
He lived in 1836.
And it was 2006?
He visited in 2006.
Whoa.
Some point to this encounter, or possibly a vision, of proof that there is a link through
time and space here on these grounds.
Whoa.
Okay.
You've reeled me back in.
I'm very intrigued.
And like you said, with the aging, with the white hair and everything, like he wasn't
just visiting through a dream.
He was here on this plane.
Yeah.
Going through time.
Going through time.
But.
That does make it feel weird because they're saying like, oh, these creatures and things
are coming out of this hole, but it's also just like 2006.
Like, that doesn't make any sense.
At that point in time, it was 2006.
Who says it's linear?
Good point.
So it could be any time.
Any time.
So at some point, we either did have evil creatures roaming around or we will.
That is not very comforting.
Like hybrid mutants of some kind.
Well, I could see that happening, actually.
Yeah.
That's kind of where we're headed.
It's possible.
That's how it feels anyway in America.
Anything's possible.
Yep.
Anything's possible in this world.
Yep.
But that is Hauska Castle.
It was spooky and chilling and it was, it had everything.
Everything that I wanted.
Ghosts, demons from hell, a gateway to the underworld and, you know, possible time travel.
I could have done without the first two, but yeah.
Yeah.
I thought, I thought, I thought it was really fun.
I liked this one a lot.
Me too.
I think I would like to.
I think I would like to go inside, run around and then leave.
Okay.
I don't think I would stay very long.
I would love to stay and explore and learn everything and see everything.
Can people stay there or they just do tours?
I think you can stay the night.
And there are some paranormal investigators that do, like they post YouTube videos about it.
Well, yeah.
I'm sure they let like, you know, people with fame and notoriety like stay the night in a haunted castle.
No.
Not even, not even fame.
But I mean like, can regular people like us just like come in?
Yeah.
You have to rent it out and stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And make agreements.
But yeah.
Interesting.
Has anybody in the audience ever been?
Let me know.
I'm on the fence.
I'm on the fence about if I would go.
I think.
I don't know.
I would probably do an investigation.
I wouldn't want to sleep there though.
No.
I would never sleep at any of these haunted places because I don't want them messing with
my dreams.
Yeah.
I wouldn't want to have a dream of where I'm like descending down into another time.
That would wreck me.
Yeah.
In my waking life.
Yeah.
For sure.
So it would be very weird and hard to come back, I think.
Hmm.
What a way to start.

FAQs
The legend stems from a massive crack in limestone cliffs near the castle, believed to be so deep it couldn't be filled with stones. Local villagers reported unexplained sightings and sounds, and a historical story describes prisoners being lowered into the crack, returning with aged, white-haired faces and claiming to have witnessed horrors below.
There are no definitive, verifiable records of supernatural events, but several historical and anecdotal accounts exist, including a 19th-century poet’s dream of being transported to a mechanized future in 2006 and reports of screams, shadows, and unexplained noises during tours.
During World War II, the SS occupied the castle and some rumors suggest they conducted occult experiments, dark rituals, or even a breeding facility for 'master race' programs, though these claims are speculative and not confirmed by historical records.
Yes, visitors can rent the castle for overnight stays, though it is not open to the public daily. It's often used for paranormal investigations, conferences, and events, and regular tourists may need to book in advance.
The 'faceless black monk' is a ghostly figure said to guard the entrance to the underground crack in the castle chapel. He is described as wearing black robes with no face, and is believed to deter visitors from digging into the hole.
There is no accepted scientific explanation, but some believe the phenomena may be linked to natural geological features, such as energy stored in limestone, or to psychological effects from the isolated, eerie environment.
