8 TOP PROSPECTS Who Could Be Up Very Soon! (08/13 Fantasy Baseball Podcast)

Big name prospects who could get called up as soon as this weekend up next on fantasy baseball today express What am I to have been to express on Thursday August 13th? I am Frank sample joined by Scott White and I have eight big name prospects who could get called up as soon as this weekend Scott why this weekend of all weekends? It's a big weekend Frank this weekend marks the point when there are only 45 days remaining in the regular season and That is an important milestone because if a player is on the roster for less than 45 days and doesn't exceed certain A bat or any thresholds which would be hard to do in the amount of time left He retains his rookie eligibility for next year and that is important because if a player is on the roster for his full rookie season It opens the door to potential draft pick rewards for his team So since that became a rule with the latest CBA in 2022 We've we've seen teams follow this sort of Promotion timeline where we get this rush of big prospects late in the season just to kind of get their feet wet before what's anticipated to be their rookie season So that then you know, hopefully they perform well enough To win rookie of the year or even if they place in the top three for MVP or Sai Young in their pre arbitration years They can score their team a draft pick for that but But the only prospects who are eligible for this have to be on a couple of the the major top 100 lists at this start of next year Really complicated. I know but the point is just The highest in prospects are the ones most in play here because you know If they're not going to be on a bunch of top 100 lists and they're not going to qualify anyway And obviously they have to be good enough to place high enough in an awards voting down the line So you're going to hear about particularly big prospects in this edition. All right. Let's count down the top eight in reverse order So number eight on this list is Seaver King a shortstop prospect with the Washington Nationals Yeah, he was a first round pick a couple years ago. It's had a breakout season this year a guy who You know good power good speed good bat skills in general Chases too much and so that is something you got to watch out for with Seaver King but the Nationals don't really have a long-term plan at second base right now Naseem Nunez is a good defender doesn't provide much offensively and Luis Garcia is out of the picture now obviously so Seaver King Pierce to have mastered triple A could see him getting the call here getting his feet wet as their future second baseman Number seven we have James tibs in alphill prospect with you guessed it the Dodgers And I'll note that these are ordered by Likelihood of being called up so we're kind of starting with what I think are the less likely ones I point that out in james tibs case because well where the Dodgers gonna play him That's been the story all year You know, he was at his hottest in March and April seem like maybe who it was just gonna be a a quick A quick move to the majors, but it didn't happen because there was never a clear opening for James tibs The possibility apart from injury of course would be if they're beginning to sour on teosker Hernandez As things currently stand the Dodgers aren't in a position to get it by and the first round of the playoffs so they're They might be looking for a little bit of a boost here teosker Hernandez seems like he may be falling off in his mid 30s Maybe they give James tibs a shot finally The Rockies recently promoted as Zach Vene could they do the same with number six? That is Charlie Condon who is a first-based prospect in the Rockies organization Although he has slowed down quite a bit Yeah, and that's part of the reason why I think Zach Vene beat him to the majors the other reason being Vene was already on the 40 man roster Charlie Condon isn't But it's been a huge season for Condon even go back to spring training He made a pretty strong case to to make the Rockies roster then it's just TJ rumfield also made a strong case and rumfields had a great rookie season Condon's Spit about half the time in the outfield this year So that's probably the clearer path form, but it's not especially clear path. I think them Rockies might have trouble finding it Bats for Vene as it is condons are dis promotion but It'll be tough to get him at bats and that's why it may not end up happening Let's take a break and we'll be back right after this Five more big-name prospects who could get called up as soon as this weekend number five on the list is one that we have talked about all season That is Joshua Baez Alfielder with the St. Louis Cardinals Yeah, he has Been one of the most prolific power hitters in the miners spent the full season at triple A over 30 homers there 20 steals as well problem as he's striking out 30% at the time and that That raises some doubts about whether he'll get the call Heimblum who of course leads the the Cardinals front office has expressed some dispensio over that high strike outrate and May prefer that Baez continue to work on that I'll point out the Cardinals Were the organization that prevented JJ Weatherhole from getting called up at this time last year. It seemed like he had earned a spot And didn't happen they waited till the next year obviously it's gone well. They may do the same with Baez What about his teammate number four on this list Quinn Matthews also of the Cardinals a starting picture We saw him he got one start against the blue jays. He actually looked pretty good. He went down his later start a triple A was terrible Yeah, it was and it was pretty typical For Quinn Matthews to have a start where he walks six guys like happened to that one that that's that's been the knock on him last year especially Struggled with control but has at times this year too overall though since about the start of June Quinn Matthews has been really dominant a triple A He's somebody who led the minor leagues and strikeouts in the past and I think that was 2024 and he looked good enough in his debut that The Cardinals have said we're gonna see him soon obviously since he's been up for a day already He has to wait until 44 days remaining in the season, but you know that's still this weekend Quinn Matthews by the way did make another start a triple A here on Wednesday night. It was four innings one run five strikeouts to three walks So and the only through like 68 pitches. So I don't know perhaps they're limiting a little bit limiting him a little bit So he can throw a little bit more in the majors down the stretch number three on this list is Franklin Arias with the red socks He is a shortstop prospect meteoric rise this season Recently promoted to triple A where he has not slowed down Yeah, and you may be surprising to see him third on this list when I said I Rewarded them by the likeliest to be called up he's 20 years old nobody would have expected this even a month ago I think but he's had a huge season as a Huge breakthrough season for power already showed terrific hitting instincts in the lower minors and moved up to triple A Seems to have made quick work of it and made some appearances at second base of course right now the red socks have an Opening at their natural at his natural shortstop position, but I bring up second base because The expectation is Trevor story's gonna be back at some point and seems like the red socks may be preparing Preparing the way for Arias even if story is back Number two we have Walker Jenkins outfield prospect with the Minnesota twins who Crossed your fingers has finally managed to stay healthy and he's look great He has looked great. Look to even looks even better by the data than the the top line numbers top line numbers are still good batting average around 300 OPS just shy of 900 Some power some speed but Exe velocities of terrific plate discipline not just in terms of having much he walks But zone contact rate chase rate. It's all excellent and we knew that for Walker Jenkins from the beginning It's a very highly regarded prospect from when he was drafted fifth overall in 2023 Has had a lot of injuries between now between then and now and yet at triple A as a 21 year old and Making it look easy. So I think with the twins fighting for a playoff spot. They were buyers at the deadline They don't want to miss this opportunity. I think Jenkins is somebody they're gonna call up Hopefully to make a difference for them number one on this list. No surprise. It is Cade Anderson of the Mariners Feels like this could have happened months ago, but obviously they had that log jam. Hopefully it's coming soon Hopefully, yeah, they still don't have a clear opening in the rotation still five strong there, but they went for a stretch of several weeks with the six-man rotation before Trading Luis Castillo there another team That is quickly losing ground in the playoff race if they have any hope of staying in it. They need some kind of Infusion of talent and Cade Anderson is the most obvious one. He's dominated to double A been a touchable there frankly all year and You say well, it's time double A, but that mariners have a history of promoting their top pitching prospects directly from double A George Kirby, Brian Wu, Bryce Miller, all being examples. I will quickly mention the relative long shots. We have a manual Rodriguez and outfielder with the twins, Sebastian Walcott, short stop with the Rangers, hoseway, depala and outfielder with the Dodgers, Haysus, Made, a short stop, the top prospect, and all baseball with the brewers. Any quick thoughts or mentions of these four? Walcott needs to play the field. He just came back from a concussion originally came back from UCL repair. Look great. Then had a concussion just came back from that hasn't appeared in the field yet. Obviously that'll need to happen before the Rangers call them up, but does seem like there's enough time. And the longest of long shots we have Leo DeVries, short stop with the athletics, Ethan Salis, a catcher with the Padres and Lazaral Montess and outfielder with the Mariners.
