We got West Ham with all the turmoil on and off the pitch. Back in the second year for the first time since 2012. Bernie returns to the league. We got the small matter of Southampton beginning on -4 points for their spikate punishment at the end of last season. Middlesbrough was spied on strong back after missing out. In the final half day, picked up the signing of the summer in Will Lancshire. Cardiff Bolton, Lincoln City, all up from league 1. Lincoln with their joint managers as well. That's going to be interesting. I'll calm him down. I'll calm him down. I'll calm him down. Boy Hodton, Boy Evans and John Wholey. That's about it. I can't remember many others. Anyway, it's a strong division. Let's go straight to you. Out of those teams that have come down and the three favourites effectively, who's the most settled and ready for the season? I think it's a good point. Who is settled out of any of them? I think when you go through relegations as a team, it's very difficult to remain settled. I look at West Ham as being the team that has kept hold of an incredible manager. In my opinion, someone that's done it in the championship before, got promoted with walls in Nuno. I think it's a massive coup for them to keep hold of him. Alongside Jaroboen from a playing perspective, I think they're probably the most settled club out of the three that have come down in my opinion. I think the squad that they've still managed to keep together, even at this point, are real big positive for them. If they can even add, they've just added Solomon as well. West Ham, for me, are looking the most settled and probably the most strongest. Boein is a big player. And the Nuno is huge to hold onto. And you want that stability. I know they got relegated. They did show a bit of fight though under him last season. You'd expect them to do well in terms of the other core players. If they can keep hold of Mavera Panos, who was excellent for them in the back end of last season, you're starting to build a half decent core there. Absolutely. I mean, I was with Mavera Panos at Arsenal, so he's a fantastic player for them. I think the message from the team is that they're going to have a great time at Arsenal, so he's a fantastic player for them. I think the message from Boein was a real big message. He'd come out early doors, said he's not leaving. He's going to stay there. And I think it just sort of adds weights and a manager as well. And I think you're right, Luke. I think they probably look the most settled of the teams that have come down. With a manager that's got a huge experience of getting teams up and being successful. So I think West Ham will be a full set of beat this year, if any, in my opinion. They've made money as well. Kursentja, some of you have left for a big, big fee this summer. Mateusz Fernandez, Go around the A4, A6 Tottenham as well. Freddie Potts, picking up £10 million for the academy players, is huge in this day and age. They need more out the door though. Nicholas Falkrug, who had a spell on Lona, AC Milan last season. Again, no goals from him. You wonder about Aaron Wamba Sacken, who John Clare Tadebo will be playing championship football next year. The lesser spotted Maxwell Cornay, Lars Taylor. I don't see certain players of a certain, I suppose, it'll be very happy at playing championships. So I think they'll probably leave. I think it's probably best for both parties. But as long as the club recoup the money, I see that they're in a really strong position because they can probably afford to go out and buy well before these players leave the stadium anyway. It'll be very interesting to me to see how the fans react to West Ham being at that stadium and in the championship. I think that will be the difference between them and Wolves is if the fans decide right where behind the team, where behind the manager, we're going to push them over to the line and I can see West Ham winning the championship back at Canter. I think that just for me is so important for West Ham because they've been a team, especially in the last five years, lots of changes of managers, no real clear vision, the ownership, the. - Right, the West Ham way. Exactly, there hasn't been one, has there? - What is the West Ham way? What is the West Ham way? - Now, well, winning games are football for me is a way of playing. It's not about possession, it's you have to play to your means. For me in the championship, West Ham have got Jared Bowen. He will be the best player in the championship by far and away, in my opinion, proven it already. It could have been in the England squad gone to the World Cup, lots of arguments for that. I think West Ham almost needed a bit of a reset to everyone to just get on the same page, a bit more excitement, winning games, breeds confidence, there hasn't been too much consistency for West Ham over the last five seasons and let's say with the changes of managers, I think this is a chance for them to really like, like we've seen, they've kept the manager, kept the core positive players that are prepared to stay like Laos says and pick up the fight and the responsibility of getting West Ham out of the championship. So it's a chance for them to reconnect as a football club. There is that chance, but there's also a scientific formula with them, which is that despite having huge numbers at the stadium and they've got 45,000 season to get orders to the show, 50,000 season to get orders, which is going to be great. There'll still be around 9,000 way fans in there. There's going to be a target on their back and I'm not saying, you know, there's possibility of a less than, is there possibility of them having the pressure pulled on them because we know if a team goes ahead there, the head's dropped, the fans get on your back, red light spells danger. Yeah, no, I agree with everything you're saying there, but I think Laom had a really good point. If they can get a few early results and get that fan base on board, it could be massive for that football club and off the pitch they've had one of two problems as well as we know. But the West Ham fans, you know, you get them on board beyond that squad of players and there'll be some new faces in there I'm sure. I think it'll be really important for their season early doors to get that going. I don't think it'll be a less than that. I just think they're a little bit more stable than less than were and a little bit more solid all over the place. The managers are massive difference though. That's the. That is almost like having an 80 million pound signing coming in. He is top, top level. Exactly because he's done it before. He's done it before, but also, like you say, he did do pretty decent job when he went in there. Yes, he couldn't keep them over the line, but their actual form and points that they are mass when he arrived there was a lot better than most in and around that area of the league. Do you not think we should be looking at this from a more positive point of view that this could change the more recent history of West Ham in terms of the fans don't really like stadium. There's a real disconnect because of all the stuff that's going on at board level. Do you not think that the manager could use this in a siege mentality to bring the fans alongside the players and to then galvanise the whole thing? How many clubs are going to be adopting a siege mentality at the season? We're going to go on and talk about Southampton. They'll be doing it. Link can probably be doing it big. Yeah, but Southampton are completely different kettle of fish. They're trying to adopt a siege mentality because of stuff that they've done to themselves. And they don't deserve anyone's sympathy or anything. I don't think the points deduction they've had is harsh enough. I think what I'm trying to say is you just cannot have a level of arrogance in the championship. I know West Ham United are a big, big football club, enormous football club. They've won a European trophy or European trophies. This club should not be playing in the football league. but they are here and they've got to do what they've got to do to get out of it. Worth saying for more stamina to coach him and David Sullivan did attend their camp our cup game against sportsmith despite being advised he should stay away from home games at London Stadium Sullivan resigned from his position as coach of the Hammers in June after seven women accused him of sexually exploitative and predatory behavior allegations he tonight's let's talk wolves these guys are my favorites and and I don't know what it is about them there's something about them you're talking about a club in turmoil I think there's hasn't been as public as as West Ham's and there is a bubbling on under the surface from the fans and you get it from the fans but maybe because it's wolves you haven't heard so so much about it but you know sacking Rob Edwards in the summer came as a surprise for a lot of people maybe for Karen Trippier certainly for Rob Edwards and maybe for Cesar Peixote who's coming from from Guild of Santa would you make that situation I think when it all happened it was all a little bit underhand anyways I wasn't when Robert was one in there a lot of fallout from him leaving middle as we're having done such a good job and then almost given that opportunity by middle as we're going so wrong at luten but nothing surprised me the way again that wolves have been runners of club lots of different managers success and then dropping down in quality but what wolves have got now and I think it's been a bit of a masterstroke bringing Raul him and his back to the club I think if you watch their game him coming off the bench and the actual reception that he was given and you talk about gal van i's in and bringing fan bases back together I think that's a massive sign in at this level he'll be for me unstoppable at times performances he had in the World Cup especially as well for Mexico I just think what a player again to have this level and it just shows you with the the size of the clubs coming down the West down keeping Jarrah Boan your wolves bringing in him and there's what huge clubs we do have in the championship this year it's a proper PR signing isn't it from from wolves you know as a manager or you well it's not really the manager signing but you know as a as a board you need to win the fan on side it's a lot of shirts as well it's a big statement of intent I thought when they brought him in and I just think it sends a message out to their own fans and I think it sends a message out to the rest of the league and I think it also appeases any noise with Rob going and how that that come about like he said it sounded like it was underhand a little bit but I feel that some some messages of intent there that wolves are going to be a very serious contender this year I think he's physically still capable he has the street wise side of his game and he's also not afraid to put his head in wherever it's really gonna hurt so wolves gonna be a very good team the same way full and more a very good team a mid-travich absolutely dog walk the league I think he could potentially whoever performs more consistently over the 46 games between him and Jared Bowen will drag their team over the winners line I expect both to go up one and two whichever in whichever order I personally I'm back in West am I think they have a bigger more vociferous fanbase and if that fanbase is on side I think they are I don't bother you yes when they're given it yes yeah it's a great ground sacco and it is thunderbolt left foot my god he's up a carry sack up yeah he could kick a ball really hard really hard I was with him I was with him I'm in the city guy here for my life I believe really really unbelievable yeah and he was a powerhouse yeah I mean the nicest made it yeah I've had to say that soft mild manoured broot I mean I mean just just just finishing on on Rob Edwards do you think they made the right decision Luke I think it's a big gamble I think we've seen Rob Edwards and what he's done he's had success he's got teams promoted to the Premier League and that seemed to be why they brought him in originally and and it was always going to be it was made in as early decision wasn't in the Premier League and they hardly won any games and you think as a club that's used to sacking managers over the last few years how long is that going to last but then he got to the end of the season so for me you would think okay they've made their plan this is what it's going to entail you've got someone that's proven like I said this level so for me it was a big surprise and no I don't think it has been the right decision but ultimately it'll be proven to how walls start the season and if they are capable we've got Mane still they've got Andre they've been able to keep hold off so they've got an incredible playing squad but it's just with the player with an again a manager which we said at the top of the show alongside a Burnley without that championship experience it is a brand new challenge for them let alone them leading the team. Another manager making his debut in the EFL the season will be Nikki Hien of Burnley they seem to have this thing where it's just a huge turnover of players constantly we look at key players though within these squads and and these you know top-end championship squads it's got to be Zianne floating for them. Yeah I mean I agree with you on that but just coming into the manager as well that's a big gamble I think the manager I mean I don't know loads about him I have to be honest and I'd love to know how they went about a point in him and what their full process was because you know for me Scotty Parker takes teams up at the championship so I'd have probably stayed with Scotty and then sort of got him up but this manager I'm going three to hours going to go I really am. Do you think they want a different style of football because I mean this is a big thing that I laugh at I mean I keep been about a style of football winning football is what every fan wants I don't know any fan that wants a team that plays out from the back and finishes mid-table. I don't get how you can go from Sean Dysplan his brand of football to Vincent Company smashing up the division when they did it and then going to Scott Parker and going okay cool how you got to do it. Yeah and Scott's got a great record of getting teams at the championship so for me I would have probably stayed with Scotty and said look you the man that's got many teams at the championship so far let's stick with you I don't know if it was Scott that probably had enough or he saw the finances are going to be a problem but you know this would be an intriguing one watching Burnie I'm really interested to see one how they play football and one you know how they how they start the season. I think the biggest issue is going to be the how long is Josh Colin not going to be fit for Josh Colin being the captain of the football club now he will be a massive missing that dressing room until he's back fit and you can't really afford not to have your captain when everything around the first team is completely changed so that will be very interesting with the utmost respect to Burnie I can see them becoming a Norwich a West Brom of a few years ago where they might struggle this year to get back up and then kind of just peat her out into into into nothingness for a little while while they try and rearrange the deck but the good thing for them and their football club is that they have a large sum of money coming in from a Premier League over the next two years to to potentially do what needs to be done to get them back into the Premier League. What about that yo yo mentality? What will that do to do for them because you know again their squad has evolved so much over three four years that the volume of players they're bringing in has been nuts is this going to be a karma window for them. Well I think they're sell sold some really important players. Esteve, Senator Arv massive player for them he's gone for 25 million. They're trying to recruit some sort of finances but without knowing the full story we can't really go into it but I think when they've been that yo yo club and you mentioned the managers that they've had that have been able to do it and Sean Dijk's Vincent Company, Scotty Parker they've kept a real core and they've seemed to be burnley players that understand the way of taking that challenge sticking together understanding the DNA of Burnley to be tough to be to be dogged to be to be winners ultimately because it's very difficult to switch that mentality when you do find yourself in a relegation to then turn it back into right we need to win every week and that's what Burnley have been able to do but I look at the squad now on the turnover of players and who they're bringing in who they're untried at the championship level in terms of experience of being at that top end of the league so I think it's going to be a real different type of season for the Burnley this year and that's probably why I do favor Westdam and Wolves ahead of the three teams to get get really good. What about Southampton? So I really give his opinion on that any? Can we can we bring in Tommy Smith? The big story last season I mean he was he was he was at it on Saturday believe me he was he was fully up for the cup up for the cup was Tommy Smith at the big story last season of course was Spygate Southampton thrown out of the playoff after being found guilty of spying on three clubs last season including Middlesbrough before their playoff semi final they start the season on minus four points manager Tonda Eckert has been charged by the FA for his role in Spygate we're still waiting to see what the outcome will be I have heard so many different opinions on this situation everyone's waited into it and yet there's there's clarity there was clarity at the end of last season but there's no clarity now what would you have done if you were dragon so like the owner of sport republic and I've got rid of manager and I know I shouldn't say that but I just want to done out of clear the decks cleared I mean that's still hanging around the manager isn't it what they're going to do with him and I would have I don't someone who had been the full guy I know this horrible thing to say because I'm a manager but that that's got to be orchestrated by the manager and it's it's cost-a-club chance promotion the players I mean you've got a question whether the players are going to want to play for this manager it's cost-and-premise it contracts and then you've got the fan base you know it's it's I think it should have been cleared the decks and start fresh we're talking gross misconduct here by the way yeah we're not talking about our made a mistake no you did it you did it three times yeah that we know of there's also no smoke without fire and look at the things that have been levelled mainly on social media yes about his previous job We're not talking about, er, it's a Mr Mina. Like, this is not done in this country. Let's hear from Flynn Downs and spoken to BBC Radio Solent this week. The clubs really come together. I think the players have as well to start. So, as if we've got a chip on our shoulder. We want to put them wrongs right. We had the chance last year, because he didn't get to play for whatever reason. And that we're going to win the league this year. I know we're starting on minus four, but our minus eights were within this week and that's it. Big statement from Southampton midfielder, Flynn Downs. Lahtali, you looked away. Luke James, I'll come to you first. He says it's as if we have a chip on our shoulder. I know Flynn Downs very, very well. I looked after him when we were together at Ipswich coming through as a young player. He is certainly someone that you won on your team and you don't want to play against. But he's someone that wears his heart on his sleeve. You have some sympathy for the players and for the fan base of Southampton. Because it's through none of their doing. But ultimately, it's rise or fall time isn't it? It's disband everything or it's come together. They're choosing that. He's come out and give that statement. This is what Southampton is going to be in. Whether winning the league is a bit of a stretch too far from our opinion as football, pundits or whatever you want to call us. That might be too far. It's just the aim for them and they want to use that as their fuel to get that extra 5% every week. So be it both continue to just dismiss it as a just this. We haven't really done anything wrong. Then that will cause other teams to want to go to Southampton and take three points off them. You know what, I might have Flynn Downs coming out for that. Rather than saying we're going to have a go. We're going to win the league and we've got to. I would expect my players to say that about me if it was if I've done something like that. I'm really ready round. We've all the noise that we've got on the outside. It's probably not as bad on the inside there. It's all done and dusted. So, you know, with that group of players they should go into the season very confident with the way they've finished brilliant. I love that. And I really hope that they are all going to pull round and dig this manager out of the hole. If they can go to a good start, I'd back. I was still believed they'll be in the playoffs. I still put them for me team to go up through the playoffs. Will they win the league? I don't think they'll win the league. I think they'll make the playoffs and I think they'll be the team to be in the playoffs. I've got them for me to back them to go up through the playoffs. But I think it's important that they just have to come together, don't they? And they've got to have to go up through the playoffs. What happened to them with regards to these charges and any potential? It's still hanging on. Absolutely. Lion. I don't like the choice of words because the choice of words makes it seem like they've been hard done by. He's representing the football club. He's not representing himself or just the players. So I don't like the terminology. I would be very intrigued to know his thoughts on what the manager has done in a private conversation. Obviously, that will not happen. That being said, yes, fine. They have to do what they have to do. But I just don't think what has been done and their punishment has been severe enough because we just don't do those kind of things in this country in our football impairment. Now, I just want to say if you think we're rattling through teams, we are because we've got to cover the 72. We're trying to pick out the hot topics and the low hanging fruit, if you like, off the football league tree, but throughout the season on 72 plus, we will be across every single team out there. And one of them will certainly be middles, but one of the other clubs involved in spygate. They've of course emerged as one of the favorites to be up there at the top of rule, dramatic finish the season. Beating, of course, by Southampton and the play of semi-finals, reinstated, beaten by how out Wembley, Hayden Hackney's gone. That debate is done now, but they've spent and they always reinvest wisely, Middlesbrough Luke. I think what they've done this year quickly is act. Haven't they? They've bought in some real quality that we mentioned. We'll actually already. Aiden Morris is such a key part of that team in that centre of midfielder position. I think he's going to be a real key again, picking up the man from Hayden Hackney. But I think at the end of the last scene they just fell short from that lack of squad debt. Whitaker was missing, Hackney was missing and those two was such a key point for them that didn't get him over the line. So to make the signs they have will make them a lot stronger. Will Lancia, Kim Hellbaker said he's the best finisher he's ever seen after. He scored the win against Rexham on Friday night. They lack goals last season, Lyle. He could be the answer. He could be the answer but there will be a lot of pressure from a very big fan base who aren't scared to tell you how they feel. So it will be a case of how he deals with that now. As a striker you go through Baron patches in a season, you go through four and five and six games. If he can still provide a platform for his team in those moments when he's not putting the ball in the back of the net, it will be massive for that football club. And I think they will be one of the teams going into this season saying, "You know what, we feel hard done by what happened at the back end of last year. Let's try and put those wrongs right and see how they can do." But they've been on a steady rise over the last probably what three or four seasons now. So I fully expect them to be at the top end, the right end of the table. I really like Kim Hellberg. From first meeting him, I think he's a cool guy. He buys into it. Obviously, come in, make the statement of, "I want to get this club to the Premier League." I think he probably was expected to do it last season. They fell short, but they're addressing it. They're adding to the squad though. And this is what it's about building layers now for them. Yeah, they've brought in Vitech and Gold as well from Unionite. A big, big signing. I think that's probably where tough on Soulbrini had a solid season last season, but he made that a bit of a mistake in the player final, right at the last knock-ins. But how to, for me, I saw a lot of him at the World Cup, what a central midfield player. He's got a range of passing, which I think will allow Aidan Morris to operate a bit further forward, just giving him a bit more solidity behind him when they obviously lost Hayden Hackney. And I mentioned before, when you lost Morgan Whitaker and Hayden Hackney, your real bright sparks of creating chances and getting goals. I think we saw Morgan Whitaker come back at the end of the last season. He was the actual only one able to put the ball in the back of the net. Strelick, yes, works hard. Up top for Middlesbrough, but Will Lancsier will be the big, big difference for them this season. And it's about keeping him fit. Let's look at the best of the rest. The Dark Horses. I mean, Luke, you mentioned Burium City, Shout-to-Shouts, the Norwich City Swansea Rexham. And of course, Mill will be in the playoffs after missing out on the top two on the final day. And who are you looking at? Rexham, for me. I think they put a good squad together each season. I think he buys World Park here. I think they've got a way of playing and they're all on the same page of it. Danny and Ray in this year who I had at Bromley, who's at Palace, I think he's a really good signing for them as well. So, and the best to do the goalkeeper. It's done. It's an anti-patternist in the door. I think it's a fantastic sign in as well. Just on Rexham, like tactically, I think they're very rigid in what they're doing. Luke Wade in on this as well. But I actually really enjoy watching them. I love the intensity. You know, it feels as though they sort of coast for the first set of a game. And then the last 20 minutes is just mayhem. Can they sustain that through a season though, both of you? I think it's interesting because I think that comes from off the pitch. I don't think that necessarily comes from anything the manager will be specifically telling the players to do. I think that comes from the whole story. And the whole circus is probably the wrong word, but the circus that follows it. That club is going to do something that is never been done and is supremely special just because everything else off the pitch is driving. It's like a movie. Yeah. It's like a movie. It's a movie. It shouldn't work. I think that's the point, isn't it? They've already done stuff that's never been done before. Free consecutive promotions. They missed out on the playoffs on the last day of the season, the last season. They've got immense quality. They've added to it again. They've been back to Phil Parkinson's been back to, and I think you talk about the mayhem, but it's really important now as a team. You always reach a level, right? And we're talking about a goalkeeping been brought in. You just have to keep improving and as well as half has done. Patterson is a top, top goalkeeper. And it keeps them settled. Let's talk about your pick for the outside bat. And obviously, a lot of weight in it being a former Blues striker is one of your 20 clubs. 20? 22. 22. Fair play. How do we get 24 as a calculation that, oh, you've been back? It might have been 24. We've only got so many fingers and told you. I know what you want from me. We're the calculator out, would it? Why Birmingham City? I just think they've had the chance now to settle down again, talking maybe a bit of circus and the belief. And I think they came back up to the championship with real belief that they could just go again and get themselves back into the Premier League with a back to back promotion. But I think they were surprised a little bit of where they were in terms of the level. I think they blew away League one when they did. But they've just had that season to bed in a lot of foreign players from January last season. And it's always going to be difficult to get them to hit the ground running. And I think they've had that six-month period now, preseason. Chris Davis will have massive pressure on his shoulders, but I think they've recruited well. Now I think at Blues it's very different because above that sat on the board, I think you've got an attempt to gentrify a football club, which has never been what Blues have ever been about. You see, you're trying to open restaurants in the stand and closing boxes and doing this. And you just think, what are you doing? This isn't America. This isn't how we do football here. Just put your money into the football club. Show the fans that you're willing to drive the off the pitch stuff forward. and they will back you and love you as an owner. It's just whether they can separate the nonsense that comes with the Americanization of football. I want to, I mean, the football club. Look, I think from the ownership perspective, it's going to be interesting to see how much of an involvement Tom Wagner has after South Africa's stroke and look, we wish him well because he's been nothing but excellent for that football club driving it forward. What happens with Chris Davis? Because again, Luke, just sorry, I know we've got to push on, but there was murmurings last season. There were frustrations and I was at one of their games. And it wasn't fun at points. And I just wonder, at what point did the fans go? We need someone new. Thank you Chris for everything you've done and you've been great, but we want something different. I think I just need that, that first season being back in the championship. I'm credit to Birmingham. They could have easily made a change and they wanted that unrealistic expectation of getting back to back promotions like I say. But he's got a chance and he must be, he'll know, right? In that job, if you're not in a great position after 10 or 15 games, he's going to be very difficult for him to keep the Blues fans on side, to keep the belief that that club has now got as a fan base, they're going to be expecting to do big, big things now with the back in they've got such a huge club in the city. They have aspirations of getting to the Premier League. So if they're not in and around, those playoff places come 10, 15 games. It will certainly be pressure and alarm bells will be ringing. All masterminded by the man next to me, the birthday boy Andy Woodman, busy summer of recruitment. Not busy enough. You're liking. >> It's never busy enough. We always want more. It's been a tough pre-erm off season, trying to get players in. And credit to Luke, chief scout who's worked really hard and the chairman. Myself, we've been non-stop 24 hours on the phone and getting players right and are going to sign for us and then he goes somewhere else. It's tough. We haven't got the riches that some of the clubs have got. And that's not me, Crimes fact. And equally, look, whatever I like, we're probably not the most desirable clubs of some of these players to come to when there's other clubs in our league. So I understand all of that. But what we are, we are on a team on the outward directory and we'll keep going that way. >> You've done things organically and everyone has, you know, heat praise on you for doing that for, you know, not sort of going mad at what you do. How do you keep that trajectory going and how do you keep it consistent? >> First of all, you've got to make sure you buy the right characters and keep the right culture flowing through the club. And that's really important to me. And when we, you know, sign players, they as good as they are. And as we see them on the pitch, it's really important to do my homework off the pitch and how they're going to fit into us as a group and us as a football club. And then they've got to buy into how we're going to play. So you've got to get all of that right. And I would say, touch wood at the moment. We have got a group of players that have come in the door and they are the DNA of us. I'm so chuffed with how they've brought into everything we've done. >> Have you got, can we have any insight in any potential changes in how the team's going to play this year? >> Yeah, we're going to have one more extra pass. [Laughter] Do you know what, there's a fair comment to say that because what I love about what you've just said there is on the outside, everyone thinks, my keeper kicks it, we got the pitch and that's all we do. And we want people to keep believing that. What we do is, is we play in the right areas and that's what I want to do. You know, I've done what my keeper rolling through six sharp box and getting it back and then looking for put, that's not all I want. That isn't to say that we, we, you know, we have 700 passes or we just go long. We mix it up and that's the important thing. And we're going to mix it up, but with better players and, and, look, it's no secret. The goal doesn't move. Put the ball in a danger area. Keep the pressure on the goal and listen, when you've got a strike, a lot of Michael Cheek, that's all you need to keep doing. And we're not going to be much different, but we are, we have got a few little things up our sleeve. We are going to just change a little bit, but nothing crazy. I have to be honest with you. >> We have to change a little bit for the league, for sure. >> His wife gives birth the other day. >> When I tell you this, I was rigging him up saying that she had the baby. Don't worry about the game tomorrow because you know it's not going to have a baby. You're tired. He comes in, he comes in the Saturday to be office. I said, you know, okay, he said, yeah, he said the baby is if it was nothing. I mean, he is with him. And he, and he, I said, well, let's rest you because he had a handstring last year and, et cetera. And he said, no, no, fine. And he went out there playing exactly as he plays and scored. And that is just Michael Cheek is the most easy player to manage. And possibly the nicest foot love I've had the pleasure of working with. >> When you were managing, you have players like that. For me, I had my first child. My little boy was born at 628. I was on the bench for forest against Newcastle in the league cup at 7th day. It was the craziest thing looking back, probably shouldn't. But you're just like, okay, you're right, it feels good. >> It's amazing. work and that is what us footballers have been like and I think you need sometimes there's a little bit extreme and cheeky you want to give them the time I've but you have to have that relationship with a manager. Who was your manager time? Steve McClaren at the time. He was ringing me all day. Did you get him at the chamber? Did him get on. That's what us managers did, yeah. I don't wear so extra time. Happy days. Happy days. I feel like that's a new class of me. He's got you right, I'm living there. He got racing time. Yeah, killed me. The news has come out today that the PFA started legal proceedings against the EFL over changes, salary cuts, how's it affected your your planning doing things at Bromley? What have they told you? What's your understanding of everything? Well my understanding is really what my chairman tells me that we've got a budget and we can't go you know penny over it and and even like last week we we're doing signings and we have to get him cleared by the EFL and it's tough you know for a club like Bromley you know we get a revenue mainly from the crowd and we get a crowd of four or five thousand you know it's not massive and that's really our main revenue stream so other than the chairman put his money in so it's it's tough and we're trying to determine and everyone be on the scene he's trying to create more revenue etc etc but for me look I know I've got to cut my cloth for called in Lee I know the rules before I start the season with my owner and I'm quite happy to work by that and it's you can get a team of players out there and if you get a team of players out there and a team spirit and a mentality amongst the group and a good group it can take you a long way. Well let's talk less the city very quickly Russell Martin in through the door I don't know who was the bite on this but how big a job is it for him as well considering the Rangers fallout and even Southampton to to an extent the end of the Southampton time for him as well as it is for Leicester City in a football sense. I think you can link it to some of the teams you spoke about being really good from the Premier League and Westam's up but what a disaster for that football club they haven't had a plan again it feels like the fan base want this the ownership don't really know what to do next but he's got an amazing opportunity he's been back to already they've signed some brilliant players for the level Connor Chaplin West Burns has gone in there from Ipswich who I know really well they've had success of getting out of that division they're going to be the team to beat for me I think he probably hasn't had the opportunity to have the best squad or the best group of players for his philosophy which we all know is 80% possession can they turn that possession into more chances and goals that'll be the difference. What about Shafiw Wednesday Henrik Pelison sticking at the club they've brought 14 players in Barry Bannon back after six months in South like he hated it. Yeah no he did and he was fairly vocal about that or his his Mrs. is fairly vocal about that on social media which is his fine it seems to be the way of the the modern game and the modern world but I found it interesting the statement that they made upon his resigning that this isn't for this isn't for for clicks this isn't for likes. This is us bringing back a man who we know can drive this football club forward. And I thought, you know what? It's not very often you hear a football club come out and say such heartfelt words about a footballer. It was actually nice to see. So I would like to see them do well because that, I mean, that fanbase has been through not just one mile, but a good few of the last seven, eight years and they truly deserve some sort of success. And Andy, just frequently on Oxford United, Aaron Ramsey, first job going in the transfer embargo. I mean, it's tough. I feel so frowny. It's his first job. He's probably delighted to get the job in a chance. And I'd like to know how much he probably knew that that might be along the way because he might have full twice about taking it. So yeah, tough. That's going to be a tough gig for Aaron. I do feel for him on that one. And it's going to be a tough season in many ways for the Oxford United fanbase and the football club in general. Let's talk league too. According to the bookies, the title favorites this season are Salford City. We are hoping to get Peter Klamowski the Salford boss with us. And I think he joins us out. Peter, welcome to 72, Pleasant. Welcome to English football. What's this summer being like for you coming in, settling in, bringing in new players and getting ready for what's hopefully going to be a successful season for the football club? It's been exciting. We've got off to a good start in terms of the preseason program, nailing things that are important to us within our football and building the football and the mentality that goes with it in the preseason. And we're moving in the right direction with the knowledge of staying humble and focused on knowing that we've got a lot of work to do, to build a team we dream to be. Peter, Luke Chambers here. Just wanted to talk to you about how you pick up the group of players from having that disappointment of getting so close. Yes, you've got your ideas and your philosophy coming in. But what have you seen from that group of players that are ready to go again and take this challenge head on? I think it's important. You know, there were many positives last year and a lot of good work done and within that obviously, like you mentioned, so close last year as well. So you take the positives with everything that was built and the heartache that comes with missing out as well as using that as fuel and using everything that's been built in the past as a foundation to leap forward and let's say not look back too much and focus on what's ahead and that's building a team mentality to play aggressive strong football. With a mentality to get better every day and when you do that and you have a real group of men together, staff, players, the whole football club pushing the same direction magic can happen. You of course have teamed up with Anjposta Koglu in the past and you know, having spoken to you last week, you talked about being frantic, you've just mentioned it there, aggressive direct. You know, these are all buzzwords everyone wants to hear, but you've also got the tools to do it. Macauley Langstaff is a cheat code in that division as I loot Mollonoo and you know, Abraham Odo as well, you bought it from Peter Breonite. Are you done yet? Do you still what more do you feel you could improve further throughout the squad? Yeah, listen, there's the what I've learned in the past is that the window until the window is closed, things move around as a bit of a puzzle. Sometimes that things come in and out and you know, that'll be the club will be mobile in that in that sense, but for us our mentality and the focus is on happy with everybody in the building and we've got a special group of players together and it's important we don't focus or rely on one player, you know, we focus on the 11 players out on the pitch ready to contribute when their time comes and and make an impact when required and that's the mentality that we're building and we won't rely on one player, we'll get the job done with 11 out there and have that team mentality. Hi Peter, it's Lyle Taylor here. What is your remit? What have what have you been asked to achieve this season? Is it simply promotion or or bus door? Is there scope to go through to playoff? So what there's no real remit in a sense, but I'm an ambitious coach. I'm surrounded by ambitious people and the club let's say is on a journey to build something special not just for this 12 months, but beyond and has a as a long term play and that is trying to fulfill and that's to make the football club a special football club to to be out and do it for the soul, soul food people, the community of soul food and and there's a lot of good work going in at the football club and you know, I get to focus purely on the football team and and we have a, you know, an opportunity to do something special. I think everybody at this time of the year is saying the same sort of sentences that you know, they want to be champions, they want to win the league and why shouldn't we be any different? So to do that, we have to, you know, stay focused, humble and work hard and and have the mindset to keep improving our game and like I said, we're off in moving in the right direction, but we've got a lot more work to do as well. Yeah, you work with Andrew with the Australian national team and of course in Japan. Has he caught up with the in sort of, you know, told you what to expect with English football? Yeah, for sure. I'm blessed to have Ange a part of my coaching journey and life and utilize him as a mentor for sure. He's a super, super coach, super person, super leader and he's been a a wealth of knowledge for me throughout my career and again, he's an ambitious, you know, an ambitious person as well. So hopefully in 12 months time he can be watching so if it plays to make exciting football and climb the top of the mountain and I know that that'll make him very proud. Peter, we want to give you the best possible start here in English football on 72 plus and we want you to come back naturally as well. And so we've brought in the man who currently holds the league too tight. So Andy Woodman, the Bromley Boss is with us in the studio. Would he any, what's the biggest, biggest tip right now for Peter to go and take your crown? Peter, I wish you would have luck in the world because that is a blue league. I'll be watching with interest from afar. One thing I do want to ask, the club does come with pressure and I know you can do it with pressure but you've got some big names that have played at the highest level on the board behind the scenes. How's that going to be for you? Because that's a different sort of pressure from a fan base in my opinion. Yeah, sure, but it's exciting because I get to produce work with a group of people that's players and staff at the football club that passionate and vicious people and my responsibility is to build a football team that's going to make them proud but also everybody that loves soul food, proud and do it for the community. Those super individuals you mentioned, they're legends of the game, they're legends of English football and they love this football club enormously. They're doing amazing work with all sorts of things around the community and that's connected to the club foundation that's been established at the football club as well. So yeah, we could call it pressure, I call it excitement and an honour and where it is a badge of honour to produce a team that's going to make everybody proud of them included and do something special this year. If John Brady offers you a beer as a nosy, make sure you accept ease at Port Vail and if you have thanks for sure as well, you probably end up getting out of it to get you on my own because it'd be a wild night out with the Tower of the Out. The owners have come out and said they've got a difference in direction and vision for the football club. I thought Ian Holloway's comments post the friendly against Bristol City. We're about way cause the team's absolute garbage. Scott Lindsay just turned around and hooked them because I don't actually don't care, which is not the best place you want to be at the start of the season. Luke Chambers. It's very difficult. When you club has achieved something that they've been putting together as a plan for the last, however long five or six seasons, York, they've been building and building and they've got a man in charge that has achieved incredible things. A mass in over a hundred points in any league is incredible. To then decide for whatever reason to relieve him of his duties, how are you going to expect that football club to continue moving forward? Cause he's been the major part to bring that identity to get them over the line and he deserves the opportunity to go and lead them in league too. Because how many teams have we seen now that do get out of national league and then bounce again and get promoted straight and they have the opportunity to do that. So for me, it's a crazy decision.
