Transkriptio keskittyy Los Angeles Lakersin tilanteeseen NBA:n runkosarjan loppuvaiheessa, erityisesti tulevaan otteluun Minnesota Timberwolvesia vastaan.

Kun pukeimpia halvaします el hourni Robinin totta giving Lepopettä lent大ureen pi לכteen tropicaliassa ¥470 jalkailtuisella oppin The wolves, Anthony Edwards, Dante, D Even Genzo, Jean McDaniels, Julius Randall, and Rudy Gober, 1400 and 400 possessions. They've played almost 1,000 possessions more, nearly four times more possessions than the Lakers most use lineup, has been played by the wolves starting five. So they've had a remarkably healthy season. So far, Minnesota has. All right, let's get into the standings and see where. So the wolves are basically going to be full health. Right now, last I looked, the wolves are a point and a half favorite going into this game tonight. So here's where things are in the standings right now. Minnesota sitting in the three spot. Essentially, we've talked about this in previous shows, but the Lakers have a range right now, if anywhere between three to seven. I don't see them losing enough games for the Clippers who now moved into the eight seed, to catch them. The Clippers did get a win last night. Over the next, they've moved ahead of the Golden State Warriors, who are three and seven in their last 10. The Clippers, meanwhile, six and four in their last 10. And let me tell you why that is actually a good thing that the Clippers are winning and have moved into the eight seed. Normally, Lakers fans, you would feel that kind of uneasy feeling in the pittier stomach, that little bit of nausea when we talk about a Clippers win fully understandable. I get it. It makes a lot of sense. I know it's not typically the feeling that we aspire to, let's say. But the Clippers winning is actually a good thing right now because take a look at this. Their pick goes to the Thunder. And by moving into the eight seed, if they can stay in that eight seed, that would mean that the pick will be 15th and will not be in the lottery. I don't want to see the Thunder. I don't want them to even have the 14th pick if the lottery were to stay chalk and have a 2.4% chance at a top four pick. The NBA does not need the Thunder, who, by the way, had a phenomenal win last night over the Denver Nuggets. That game was awesome. I don't want the Thunder having any percent chance of moving into the top four in this draft. That would be a disaster for the NBA. So the Clippers, because their pick goes to the Thunder, then moving into the eight seed is actually a good thing in that regard. Just in playing keepaway from the Oklahoma City Thunder. But back to the Lakers. So where the Lakers currently sit in the standings, they are right now the five seed. But again, they have a range of anywhere between three and seven. Again, I don't see them falling all the way to the two eighths because the Clippers are 18 games back. The Lakers 11 and a half games back. So six and a half game gap. That's, it's too much with the amount of games remaining to close that gap. So three to seven is the Lakers range right now. They also are not going to move up to two San Antonio, two big of a gap there. There's an eight game gap between those two. Now, if the Lakers were to pick up the win over the wolves tonight, obviously that would matter a lot. That would help the Lakers move on up in the standings. And I believe for the time being, depending on what happens with Houston, that would actually move the Lakers up to the three seed because they do possess the tiebreaker over the Minnesota Timberlitz. I guess that would move them up, again, depending on what happens with Houston. But the Lakers do have the tiebreaker right now over the wolves. Tonight's game will not change that. The Lakers won their first two meetings with Minnesota, but a win tonight would move the Lakers all the way up to three, again, pending what goes on with the Houston Rockets and how that all turns out there. Denver losing their last couple has helped. Denver's right now the sixth seed, but again, the Lakers and Nuggets will play again in a few days. And that will ultimately determine the tiebreaker between those two. The Lakers and Rockets are going to play twice in a few days as well. It's a difficult schedule for the Lakers. And those games will ultimately determine the tiebreaker between those two teams in that the Lakers have already lost once to the Rockets. These two games that the Lakers were to win them, that would obviously put them ahead in the tiebreaker race. The Lakers will not have the tiebreaker over the Phoenix Suns. So that's why we also have to keep an eye on them in the seventh seed. And just two games back of the Lakers right now. So again, there is anywhere between three and seven. That's where the Lakers are ultimately going to fall. Of course, I think the team is looking at this as just don't be a play in team. Just don't fall to seven. If we fall anywhere three, four, five or six, that's fine. For for to be three or four and have home court. But the big thing don't add an extra game to your schedule. By at least maybe two extra games depending on if you win or lose that initial playing game. Obviously, but don't fall to seven and put yourself in a play in situation where you have to go win the game just to make it into the postseason. That would also put you in with a first round matchup with either Oklahoma City or San Antonio, which I think is something the Lakers would like to avoid. So we're going to be keeping a close eye on the standings, but a lot of different outcomes potential here for the Lakers. Anywhere three through seven winning tonight, picking up a win. Also putting a loss on the wolves would be very helpful. This is part of why as uplifting as the win over the next was, if I could flip the next game and the nuggets game they played the game before that, I would do that in a heartbeat because they would not only be picking up a win themselves, but would have been putting a loss on Denver. Instead, the Lakers lost Denver and then beat the Nix. Not as big of a deal against the Nix. You kind of get the double whammy when you're playing up against your direct playoff opponent. So the Lakers do have a bunch of matchups coming up against these teams. You've got the wolves tonight. You've got Houston coming up. You've got another matchup with Denver coming up. These games are going to matter a lot when it comes to determining are the Lakers. The three seed are the seven seed. Are they anywhere in between? All right. One of the keys to actually beating the Minnesota Timberwolves, which will certainly be a tall task. And right now the Lakers are the underdog for it. We're going to get to that in one minute. Don't go anywhere. I don't know about you, but I like keeping my money where I can see it. Unfortunately, traditional big wireless carriers also seem to like keeping my money too. After years of overpaying for wireless, I finally got fed up with crazy high wireless bills, focus fees, and free perks that actually cost more in the long run and switched to Mint Mobile. Let's start with this one. Jimmy McGinty. I've referenced him in the past, but classic character from the early 2000s sports dramedy, I suppose we would put in that category, called the replacements, which starred Keanu Reeves. Jean Hackman, the legendary actor, his character was a coach named Jimmy McGinty, and at halftime of the big game, is a way to send a message to Keanu Reeves that he needed to get his butt over the stadium and help this the Washington Sentinels licensing rights be damned. When the game was to say that in order to get back in the game, the team needed heart, lots and lots of heart. So I've referenced this because that's what it will take for the Lakers to win tonight. And I think as we talked about on Lakers' collective yesterday, Jason Timp for me, the point that the Lakers have effectively told on themselves with the way they've played certain games, and that's that they're not putting in full effort every single night. Now, no team is expected to put in 100 percent pedal to the metal type energy every single game, which is not possible over the course of an 82 game season. Steve Kerr actually recently made the case for why the NBA should lower the number of games, which he's not wrong. The problem is that also lowers the amount of money that you make. So I have a hard time thinking that's actually going to happen, but nonetheless, it's difficult to play 100 percent every single game for an 82 game season. But the Lakers have shown that while they're not a good defensive team overall, they are, they're sealing is probably somewhere in the middle of the pack defensively. They can be good for certain stretches of games, and they can be good enough. And we saw that against the next, that the Lakers really put forth an excellent effort and did a phenomenal job on the defensive side of the ball. I love the energy they played with. They were getting to all the loose balls. They just, you know, Austin Reeves talked about it after the game. Look, the Lakers just wanted that game more than the next did, and they played like it. And that has been a rarity for this team. We don't often see them playing right like that. Right now, they rank 20th in defensive rating on the season. So not all of defense comes down to simply heart and hustle. There is, of course, a very important strategic element to it. What kind of defense you're going to play. What kind of defensive talent you even have on your team. And I think that does put a ceiling on the Lakers overall defensive potential. There's also a measurement of luck to it. Sometimes teams just miss shots. And that was, you know, to a degree, a factor in the game against the next. But I also thought the Lakers legitimately put forth one of the best efforts of the season. So now that we know that the Lakers can play that way as we're ramping up here towards the playoff. The clock is ticking. There are that many games left on the schedule. It's on the Lakers to more consistently play with that kind of heart. That's what it's going to take in order to win this game. This is a very big, very physical Minnesota side as we saw last year in the playoffs. Now the Lakers right now are 2 and 0 against the wolves on the season. One of those wins was without Anthony Edwards. But nonetheless, the Lakers have played fairly well. They have not played the wolves though since the early days of the season. That was back in the end of October. So we're talking a long time now since the Lakers and the wolves have played. This is a big physical team that's going to throw a lot of switches, a lot of cross matches at the Lakers. They're going to do a lot of switch hunting. I thought against the nicks to a man. Everybody brought their best effort. Marcus Smart wound up being the star of the in his role, despite shooting one of 10 from the field because he was so awesome everywhere defensively. That is the kind of hustle and impact that we're going to need to see out of the Lakers tonight. If they're going to get the win against the Minnesota team, that is really damn good. I mean, they are very, very good. And the challenge as we talked about when the Lakers played the wolves in the playoffs last year is that they're really good everywhere. There isn't a major deficiency on this team to go pick at. In fact, they are number nine in offensive rating. They're number seven in defensive rating. They are 15th in turnover percentage. They don't turn the ball over aton. They're good on offense. They're good on defense. They get to the fruits of line. They shoot threes. They do everything at an average or better level for the NBA. So there's not a lot of weaknesses to attack with this team. So you've got to bring your A game if you're going to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves. All right. The second thing the Lakers are going to need to do to get into a specific defensively. It's defend the three. So the Minnesota Timberwolves are one of the best three point shooting teams in the NBA. In fact, they're number four in the NBA when it comes to accuracy. Now, the good news is as daunting as that sounds, oh no, they're number four in the NBA in three point accuracy. The good news is there's actually a really big gap in three point percentage between the wolves and say that the top three teams. In fact, when we take a look at it, Denver is shooting 39% from three. The wolves shooting 37% from deep. And actually the NBA dot com three point percentage has the wolves sitting in the fit seat. The stat I showed just a moment ago on the screen was the cleaning the glass stats. They can vary a little bit because what the I believe cleaning the glass will take out some garbage time stats and things like that. But the wolves fit seat bottom line. They're good three point or fifth in terms of three point shooting. They're good three point shooting team. Now you can see though, the Denver nugget's 39% from three. That's a big drop to go from 39 to 37% from deep. So you know, they're fifth, but there is a big jump down from first to five. Meanwhile, the Lakers, where do they currently stand at three point percentage on the season? They're 16th at 35.8%. Then we also get into volume and the wolves are a higher volume three point shooting team as well. They're taking 37 almost 38 threes per game. The Lakers, obviously, they're not going to have that. I that's which is actually middle of the pack in the NBA. The Lakers all the way down to 33.7. So the wolves are taking a lot more threes than the Lakers are as well. The good news is we do go look in the post all star numbers. So what have they been doing most recently? When we look at three point attempts, well, of course, the Lakers are still low, but the wolves are right there with the Lakers. They've only played eight games since the all star break. There's six and two in those games, which obviously really good, but they've lowered their three point attempts. They are actually shooting less threes than the Lakers, albeit in a small sample size. And then the Lakers are actually the better three point shooting team percentage wise, the Lakers are shooting 39.9% since the all star break. And that is third in the NBA, since the all star break in three point percentage. And some of that, of course, is credit to Luke and Ard, the best three point shooter in the NBA and what he is brought to the team. But it's also credit to Luca Doncic, who has been shooting much better from deep. But again, based on the season numbers, the wolves are a dangerous three point shooting team. And so how the Lakers defend the three point line without giving up the bully drives to the basket to our old friend Julius Randall or easy tip ins in the paint to Rudy Gobert. That's going to be critical in this matchup. The wolves have a team that can hurt you for inside or outside. I think the Lakers, what they have to do is limit the damage from three in a similar way to the way they worked against the nicks, which meant a lot of extra help in the paint. And then second and third efforts getting out to the shooters chasing guys off of the three point line. I thought the Lakers work rate was phenomenal. And they were really swarming in the paint, but also putting in the extra effort to make sure they got out to the three point line. So that's going to be critical tonight against the wolves, defending the three while still, of course, defending the paint as well. Again, much easier said than done, but this wolves team can hurt you in the paint or out of the three point line to me. If they are, we know they're going to focus on their paint defense. If they are also successful defending the three, that's going to mean two things. Number one, it's going to mean a much higher probability of victory for the Lakers. But number two, it also will suggest that my first key to victory, the Jim McKinney showing heart hustle all of that that is indeed happening. All right. Of course, Ants spray. How do you stop Anthony Edwards? Antman needs to be held in check in this game. Doing it is not going to be easy. There is no defensive player that could stop Ant. I really think the key in this because what the wolves are going to do is they're going to switch hunt a lot. We may say, oh, well, Marcus Smart is going to take a turn on him. Jared Vanderbilt is going to take a turn on him. Jake Laravia might go out and you know, the Lakers can intend to put their best defensive players on Anthony Edwards. But the wolves are going to say, no, we prefer not to do that. And since the Lakers run a very switch heavy defense, they will immediately set a screen or even suggest that they might set a screen and get the Lakers to switch. So I expect to see Anthony Edwards attacking Luca a lot, attacking Luke Knard, a lot, attacking Austin Reeves a lot. And the players that the Lakers would prefer not defend him. We may even see Deandre Aiden get put into switch situations. And that's where it's going to be on the Lakers defense to stay in front, contain, and it's going to be a team effort. Even if it is Jared Vanderbilt defending, even if it is a player like Marcus Smart defending Anthony Edwards, the reality is that it's going to be a team effort to defend him. It's not, it has the ability to get past anybody. It has the ability to get hot against anybody. And it's going to take the team effort. It's going to take secondary defenders, help defenders. They're going to have to be smart with where that help comes from. But the Lakers are going to have to be locked in and engaged defensively all game long. They are not going to be able to just leave Austin Reeves, Luke Knard, Luke Kodonshitch, leave them out to dry against Ant. That's not going to work out well for them. You're going to have to send help defense and you're going to have to then be in scrambled mode. That's why the mobility of this team is going to be critical in this game. We've got to see quick feet. We've got to see an active and aggressive defense, quick hands doing what they can to use that 24 second clock to their advantage and really try to delay whatever actions the Wolves are trying to get into. Blow up the first option. Blow up the second option. Make the Wolves take difficult shots deep into the shot clock. That's what the Lakers need to do in this game. Again, much easier said than done. But the defense of Anthony Edwards is not going to be happening simply by one player. You can't say, "Hey, Mark is smart. It's your job to lock up Anthony Edwards on game. That's not going to happen. It doesn't matter who it is." The Wolves are going to switch hunt for sure, which means the Lakers team defense is going to have to be very, very active and do a good job not only sending the help would need be, but then reacting to where that pass comes out of because when he does get doubled, he's going to send the pass. That's where guys like Nas Reed, Wirtaukte, Deepen Chenzo, Jane McDaniels, even our old friend Julius Randall, they can all hit shots and hurt the Lakers. The margin for error is very, very slim in this game. The Wolves have a lot of ways they can hurt you and the Lakers defense going to have to be on point. I know most of these three keys have been defense related. That tends to be what I look at a team. It's how do we put a stop to the best things that this team wants to do? Of course, the Lakers are going to have to do some things offensively as well. I just didn't want to make this 15 different keys to victory for the Lakers, but the touch upon the offense very briefly. I thought the Lakers did a really great job. I'll keep it very simple with paint to great against the Knicks. They did a phenomenal job getting paint touches and those paint touches leading to kick out open threes. That's what's got to happen. If the Lakers are going to shoot a bunch of threes, the only guy I really want seeing taking step back, contested threes is Luca. We know he can hit those. I don't want to see a lot of other players taking those. Frankly, they're not going to. We may see Austin take a step into a three from time to time, but most of the guys that are going to take those types of threes, it's going to happen under duress because the shot clocks winding down and they have to take that shot. What I want to see is more what we saw against the Knicks and that was a lot of paint touch and that leading to an open spot up three for a player like a Luke Kinnard, Ruihatcha Murra, even Marcus Smart. I know he didn't shoot well from three last game, but he's due to have a better three point shooting game. So I just want to see those threes generated by paint touches first. That needs to be the focus for the Lakers on the offensive end, get a paint touch and then go from there. It doesn't need to lead to a three if it leads to a shot at the rim. Fantastic. It leads to an open mid-range. Fantastic. The Lakers are masters of the mid-range. The best mid-range team in the NBA right now. So the paint touch though is the key to everything. Get into the paint. Whether that's via a high-pick and roll that the Lakers will run, whether that's via some off-ball action. They've been doing a lot of stack actions, a lot of stagger screens, things of that nature. Whatever they're going to run needs to result in a paint touch and then let their offense react from there. That is the brilliance particularly of Luca Donjic and the way that he can read the floor at LaPron James of course as well. If he's playing, they have the ability to read the floor at such a high level that if you can get the defense to react. In any way, whether that's collapsing into the paint or not, if you can get the defense to react and go into emergency scramble mode, guys like Luca, guys like LeBron, Austin can do it as well, have the ability to pick teams apart by countering that and throwing the ball exactly where it needs to go or taking the shot themselves. Whatever is open, they have the ability to sniff it out and find it. Last thing, the X-Factor for this game, it is the big man in the middle, Deandre A, and you know what? I said to a man, I was really happy with the energy level, the effort level, from everybody on the floor for the Lakers against the Nix. That includes Deandre A, and I've been very critical of D.A. of late. I feel like that was justified and rightly so when we see Deandre in struggle, it's often due to hustle issues, due to energy issues. And I thought even though we played 20 minutes against the Nix, I thought he was very active, had eight rebounds in 20 minutes. I love that. Two blocks as well against New York. I thought he really played phenomenally. You know, he was protecting the rim. He was cutting hard to the basket. There were a couple of plays, energy-wise that I didn't love, but that I mean, fume far between. For the most part, I thought D.A. did a really wonderful job against the Nix. He's going to have to do that again. And I think back to earlier on in the season where he effectively outdulled Rudy Gopere in the middle against the Wolves. The first matchup, again, both Lakers wins, but the first matchup played 31 minutes, 7 for 11 shooting, 8 boards had a block and 15 points and the Lakers wound up winning 128-110. Second matchup played 35 minutes. The Lakers won by a point. That was Austin Reeves at the buzzer, winning that one. And Deandre Aiden had 17 points, 10 rebounds. Three of says and a block. And that was where they really started getting into using Deandre Aiden as a hub on the offensive end to run the ball through on some of those short rolls, things of that nature. He was also 8 for 11 shooting in that game. So Deandre Aiden is very, very key in this game. Of course, Jackson. He's will be Maxi Kleeba, will be as well. But D.A. as the starter in there, he's going to be counting on to battle Rudy Gopere. He's also, his rebounding is going to be important in terms of keeping the ball away from players like Julius Randall as well. The Wolves, you can't give them a lot of extra shot opportunities. They're a very good rebounding team. They're above average offensive rebounding team, ball of average defense of rebounding team. Again, they are above average or better at basically everything. So the Wolves are a team that you really have to be sharp against and the Lakers, what they can't allow is Minnesota to have a big advantage in the paint on the glass. That's what will wear them down. And a lot of that is going to fall on the shoulders of Deandre Aiden. So he is my X factor for tonight's game. Again, 8 p.m. Pacific time. Lakers, Wolves, nine owls. Let's go. It's the late one. I'll be right here on the LakersNation.com YouTube channel. Come hang out. It's like a party. Till that everybody. See you. And stay safe.
