6 week appointment: adjusting to life w/ 3 under 5
1h 10m 57s
The episode blends personal storytelling with product promotion, centered around Quince’s high-quality, affordable clothing. Hosts Abby and Matt highlight how Quince’s ethical supply chain and premium fabrics make it a go-to for everyday wear, especially for layering across seasons. They also share personal updates, such as returning to the gym postpartum, which they credit with improving both mental and physical well-being. The conversation shifts to parenting realities—like managing toddler behavior, dealing with illness, and navigating early parenting routines—while emphasizing empathy and flexibility. Abby discusses her entrepreneurial venture, Biswell Beauty, noting product development and customer feedback, with a new drop expected in November. The hosts also address family life challenges, including a six-week postpartum appointment that confirmed a healthy recovery and positive birth outcomes. A detailed road trip plan to Southern California is outlined, with strategies for keeping toddlers calm during long drives. The episode concludes with sponsor highlights: Cash App for financial literacy, Neutrophil for postpartum hair health, and Quince’s ethical apparel, all tied to real-life experiences and parenting journeys. The tone remains warm, relatable, and practical, offering both lifestyle insights and actionable advice.
Thank you to Quince for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Let me tell you, the seasons
are changing. It's starting to be time that we can get out our denims again. We can get out our
sweaters and there is no better place than Quince. So many of the things I'm constantly reaching for
in my closet to layer up, dress up, dress down come from Quince because they have very, very
high quality products. I'm talking 100% Mongolian cashmere. They have silk, organic cotton, wool.
They have those premium fabrics, but at an amazing price. Everything at Quince is actually
priced 50 to 80% less than similar brands. And that is because they work directly with ethical
factories, cutting out the middleman. So you're paying for high quality, not brand markup. Actually
just last night, Matt was telling me that he grew out of his shorts. I don't fit in my clothes. I've
been hitting the gym. And so I need new clothes. He bought me Quince swim trunks that are really
high quality. I wear them all the time. We go in the pool with the boys. I'm excited to see what
she picks out from Quince.
You're nice khaki shorts are from Quince.
With the khakis that I wear like literally every day. Those are from Quince.
You don't even know where your clothes are from, but if you had to guess, they're probably from
Quince because I love shopping their men's section as well for Matt. You can wear them in many
different ways for many different seasons. Find your next fall favorites at Quince. Download the
Quince app for app exclusive offers or go to quince.com. Get free shipping on your order and
365 day returns now available in Canada and the UK too. And when Quince asks you where you heard
about them, let them know.
That unplanned sent you. It's the best way to support the show.
Do we even kiss anymore?
No, we don't.
That's so sad. We need to bring that back.
Hey, it's six weeks.
I know. Yeah. Six week appointment today.
I got the ick big time when you took your temperature as an adult. I was like,
you're a grown man.
Wait, when did I take?
I've seen you have that little thermometer on your head before. And I'm like,
that is for the children. They do escape their room every single night and every single morning.
They always have an excuse.
Sometimes they just come out just to say that they are having a hard time sweeping.
Would you rather change a baby's blowout or a toddler's throw up?
You've cleaned up puke like once or twice, right?
I was literally a barf bag for our baby on a whole flight.
That's true.
It soaked through my bra.
Hey, real quick, before we get into today's episode, I wanted to let you know that the

So thank you so much for being here. Thank you for subscribing. Thank you for liking the episode
and let's get into it. Welcome back to Unplanned, everybody. We are going strong over here. Abby is
literally feeding our baby while we're recording this episode hungry. How do you feel about the
breastfeeding at this point? Because that's like what you're doing. Oh, I actually really like it
this time. You do? Yes. Oh, good. I feel so grateful for it because with two other toddlers
in the house and like, I mean, we, we got to do this. We got to do this. We got to do this. We got
a lot going on on our calendars in our lives. And even work wise, I think I wouldn't ever stop
to connect with the baby and like snuggle. You know what I mean? I feel like this is just like
a built in, like very acceptable way to just snuggle all the time. It's always acceptable
to snuggle your newborn. But I'm saying like, this is like, I'm able to prioritize it because
it's literally I'm we've only exclusively breastfed during the day. And so that's been so so sweet.
I just feel so bad for him. Like hearing him breathe, you can hear the congestion in his lungs.
And I wish there's something that we could do, like some medicine to give him but that like
literally does not exist. You know, I know we I think he's the one who got actually the entire
family sick, which is like crazy. Like how did he get it first? Yeah, no one else is touching him
except for me all day long. Yeah, yeah. I think it's like me using the snot sucker like sucking
his boogers out. I like you got it. I literally inhaled I was like, sucking with my mouth. I was
with all my force to get all the his congestion. I feel like I just took whatever that was and
brought into my lungs. But how did you give it to me? Because we have not been Yeah, you just got it
or anything. You just got it. Yeah. I went his last time. No, we don't.
That's so sad. My New Year's resolutions. We need to wait what we need to bring that back.
What the heck? Hey, it's six weeks. I know. Yeah. Okay.
Speaking of the six week appointment, how did that go today?
Well, I mean, there was a point where I was not like, we've already talked about this,
by the way. I guess let's just fill everybody else. Yeah, there was a time where I was
pants down with a sheet on my waist and nursing and he was crying. You were pants down while you
were nursing. I didn't know what to do. He doesn't take a binky and he was like losing his mind.
That is something about him. Oh, gosh, he's just like, he's just trying so hard to you right now.
He is our first kid and I have to,
not use a binky like our other two kids. We had to, you know, invent the binky fairy to find a way
to get rid of the binkies for our four year old. And now like you better not listen to this episode
in front of our children. I know. Yeah, that'd be so devastating if he knew if he knew the truth.
Um, no, but yeah, he he kind of has to use you as a patsy because there's there's no he doesn't
really care about binkies. He makes a lot of sounds. Yeah, he's a grunty baby.
Yeah. Um, but yeah, he doesn't take a binky. And actually the pediatrician looked in his mouth,
which I mean, I don't think this is a detail that he would ever mind sharing in his adult life.
He has a really high palate like in his mouth. Yeah. Why would that why would that be like a
bad thing to share? No, I feel like we don't really talk about there. Oh, yeah. That's something
that's fine. The roof of his mouth goes up like a mountain, honestly. Yeah. So she's like, that's
why he doesn't really like a binky is because it's not touching the roof of his mouth. But then you
got like a very unique.
Type of binky that we've been trying to use a little bit and he just still doesn't care.
Yeah, he's still like, I've tried so your mom was really trying to get him to use it and he not like
it. Yeah, my mom came to visit us you guys for a week, which was so helpful week at Abby's mom and
dad. They're out of town. They've been in Europe, which like happy for them. That's like super duper
fun. But my mom came in and spent some time with us. And she's like, she's such a good grandma. Like
a good grandma. Yeah. But my mom, my mom played really hard with the boys. And then she started
getting sick while she was visiting because of how hard she was playing with them. Which I think kind
of just happens like pretty much every time I'm on visit, she gets sick because toddlers just have a
lot of germs. And we try to make them wash their hands a couple times a day. But you know, how good
how good really are three and four year olds at washing their own hands. So their immune systems
just aren't developed as much. Yeah.
Back to the six week appointment, though. Like, fill me in. I don't we kind of like,
we kind of jumped the gun there. What what all did you learn from the six week appointment?
I mean, I don't know. What do you think happens at a six week appointment, Matt Howard?
I'm I think they do ask me like, how'd it go? God, it was good. I was like,
what do you think we did? I think I think it was a quick appointment. I think you probably got
you got good news. You can work out again, which I know you're really excited.
Yeah, I mean, we were cleared for everything.
That was but that's like a really quick thing. I had some stitches that they did it like a check
to make sure everything was good and everything's great. But then they do like a postpartum mental
health survey. Nice. And then which I think is great. Oh, she kind of like debriefed on our birth
to which was like, I feel like that's really nice. Because I don't know, it's like a non medical
person. You're like, how'd everything go? Like it was or was it good? Like, and she was very
positive about everything.
She was like, that was amazing. Like, she's like, he came super fast. She's like, how long did that
bruising last? And she checked in on him. And she was even like very positive about another V back
in the future, which I was really surprised by because we did have a complication that we have
with our first shoulder dystocia. But she said it was like very minor. And she was like, I know what
to do. Like, she was like, I think everything was like really good. And she was very positive about
it. I know. Because I thought for sure, we'd have to have a schedule.
I know. That's such good news. I know. To know that if if, you know, we go down that route again,
to not have to have a C section is awesome. Yeah, which I mean, if we did, if we decided to have a
fourth and we wanted, like a C section, I'm not afraid of like, I, I wouldn't be worried about it
at all. But it is good to know that, like, that is a possibility down the line. I love how you
already have your workout clothes on. Like the first thing I noticed about today, you I saw you
your leggings on your sports bra on you were just like gearing up to get the all clear at the six
week appointment, go back to the gym. I didn't know if you're gonna go back to the gym like
earlier in the morning today. But it sounds like I don't have anyone to watch the baby. Yeah,
I know. So and so since your mom's out of town, we don't have anybody to, you know, keep an eye on
our baby. You're taking I guess, what are we doing? Who's actually who's gonna watch the baby
while you go to the gym? My friend's gonna hold him while I'm in the class. That's so sweet. Right
outside. Oh, that's so nice. But you're working out with a bunch of your friends at the gym. And
your friends is going to hold our baby. Yeah, during the workout. Yes. That's cool. For anybody
that's like on the newer side here, fill everybody in on like why the gym is so important to you
postpartum. I mean, it's just a part of important to my life in general, like for Oh my gosh. Since
freshman year of college, like literally since I was an adult, like, it's just been a part of my
life. I just feel like I'm not like the fittest person in the world. But just working out makes
me feel so much better mentally.
and makes my body feel better.
And so specifically postpartum when like my mental health
health has always been like a little bit shaky i've never been diagnosed with anything but like
just those hormone shifts like anyone goes like most women know like that's just a emotionally
up and down state and working out really has like helped me have like clarity of mind and so i'm
really excited to get back and like also it's just like a celebration of like you just spent nine
months with your body like not being able to do the things that you necessarily want to do with it
and then you can finally do it again obviously we're gonna ease into things but like being able
to jump not with a huge belly or like something pushing on your pubic bone and like being able to
like i don't know like lift and not be like super cautious about like oh is this gonna do something
to my core obviously we're being really careful with the core but it's just a different it's just
it's honestly just a celebration of like what your body can do after it just did something crazy it's
like now we can get back and build muscle
i didn't understand what you meant by making your mental health better until i started working out
more and now i i completely i completely get it like i i've i've started working out a lot more
than i used to and the the mental health benefits have been almost better than like the physical
benefits because like yeah i'm getting stronger and i'm growing muscle but to just like feel good
about myself and feel like i accomplished something at the start of the day
that's the other thing too my dad used to say when i was a kid you gotta work out like at the start
of the day it's the only time to do it and i was like that's that's stupid like you don't need to
work out in the morning but now that we have kids and we have you know all these responsibilities
getting it done at the end of the day ensures that it's that it actually happens because i
used to just put it off and then around you know three or four o'clock i'm like oh shoot i don't
have i don't have the time like i have too many other things on my to-do list and so like kind of
like you i've started working out in the morning and then i'm like i'm gonna do it again and then
that's been been huge well i mean i'm obviously working out in the evening today but yeah it's
just like once you get used to working out like it you know that it's a part of your day it's
non-negotiable then you can kind of be flexible with whenever you can get it in it feels good
um but yeah i'm really excited to just do it again just to get on i'm gonna need a good sports bra
i did order a new one from amazon you ordered a new sports bra yeah what type of sport is like
a certain brand running it was just like a new sports bra i did order a new one from amazon
like you just searched a different size i think i did high support high support is there like a
certain brand that makes like it was just an amazon brand oh we'll see yeah because i'm like
they're not going to be this size for long so i want to just get a like less expensive one has
that been hard like you've been wanting to buy like a new wardrobe recently have have you been
buying new clothes are you like not really doing that no i've just been wearing stretchy clothes
still because what did you do last pregnancy like
all new pants not all new pants i got new pants and they were like kind of expensive they were
free people and then because i like was kind of like what do you call that doomsday i was like
i'm never gonna fit in my clothes again and so i bought new pants that were like pretty expensive
and then two months later i didn't fit them so where did those pants go i gave them two oh they're
gone you don't even have them anymore no i don't have them anymore because then i was like i was
thinking
oh yeah you could just use all the clothes that you bought last time postpartum no but they're
gone you gave me a friend okay got it i really go through things you don't hold on to stuff very
long i feel like you got that from your mom because your mom doesn't like clutter and she
just like did you see me on sunday i was yeah you were throwing stuff away you threw away half the
condiments in our fridge i just needed those you're just you're just like everything was
you're like well you could give that to somebody i'm like that is somebody else's problem you're
like does someone want this salad dressing absolutely
that was a disgusting dressing and i i just got it but i hate it so much and now it's gone yeah i
don't want to be wasteful but sometimes it just hits me that i'm like these condiments have gotten
out of hand but this is actually a genuine question i have do people individually rinse out every
single like jar or container like a peanut butter jar do you rinse that out before you put it in the
recycling because like in my head when i was taught in fourth grade to reduce reuse recycle
i was i learned that you have to make sure there's no
like food substances or oil or grease or whatever on it because it's the same reason you can't throw
away a pizza box do you like rinse out peanut butter jars i'm just throwing them away so sad
it's okay no there's only so many hours of the day it depends on how busy i am if i'm like really
busy trust me i care i care environmentally i'm the one who drove our recycling every single week
i forgot about that yeah we didn't we didn't have recycling at our at our apartment so you would we
would drive it together to the car yeah we would drive it to the car yeah we would drive it to the
recycling center yeah and we sorted it yeah yeah and we and and there was no it's not like they pay
you for that you just kind of just do it no i absolutely honestly good on us we gosh we like
but peanut butter that is there's too many crevices i used to do it and then i i just had to free
myself of that wait i'm proud of us can we just take a second that in college we we took time out
of our saturday to go drop off our recycling and see those i felt like we're actually getting
recycled because we sorted them ourselves whereas like the recycling trucks that come to our house
altogether okay but this is what makes me so sad that those just get thrown away i've been learning
yeah that like half the recycling that we recycle just get thrown away isn't that so sad i just
don't want to believe that do do we know can someone let us know my grandparents drove their
recycling too i remember that that's so sweet but it's like why are we all recycling if it's just
going to the landfill anyway we got it you know no i don't think it is and if that's the case we
gotta figure this out america we need to we need to change things up you know thank you to rocket

see where is this energy coming from uh probably the energy drink that i'm currently drinking i
actually opened i almost opened the episode by confessing that i'm tired saying that the dreaded
t-word i'm already still pissed off at you from being sick i know that's the problem i can't like
it's a double whammy if i'm you keep asking me are you sick i'm like no i'm not sick you are sick you
can hear it in your voice you can hear i can hear the kick in your voice i can hear the kick in your
congestion i hear it in your nose i'm not sick you've been sniffly and i'm like don't even talk
to me yeah you were really nice to me the first day of being sick yeah why why was that because
i've always said in my head that you get one day to be sick i get one day to be no but see the first
day is not the day like i was fine the first day it hit me really hard actually it was the day after
that hit me hard and you okay well maybe you didn't have to keep your mouth shut until day
two then and then that will be your one free day i should have i should have
maybe could you give me 48 hours to have some grace when i'm sick
did that did the mic pick that up that was impressive i love how he just kicks together i
know i'm just like lets it go gets it from you no but there's been there's been oh my gosh addy
he was farting me or our son our son yes i wouldn't tell him in the middle of the night so
so loud on the diaper change table i literally was i couldn't
not believe it i just kept doing that we know he's your son you know where you like move the legs
back and forth and it works on him like a whoopee and then you move them all the way back you need
to record it one night i did i did that multiple times and it was just it was so i never heard
something like that he might rival you matt howard oh yeah i think he wins if we if we had a uh you
know who's gassy or it would be it comes from your side of the family something everyone's probably
like this is we're talking about farts no it's amazing what we're talking about um we were
talking about me being sick and how you oh you get one day but maybe we can extend it to 48 hours
i i have to say you were really nice to me the first day like because i've said in my head you
get one day you were so nice you you told addy you're like cancel all matt's meetings today he's
sick and then i was like babe i i'm actually i have to work i can't just call off all my meetings
so i didn't call them i worked i worked from bed for the first like 45 minutes i worked from bed for
the first like 45 minutes of the day responding to emails um but you know the evening i took the
kids out yeah well okay that's the thing i actually felt fine to go out to the birthday
party that evening but then out of respect for my brother i was like do you want me to stay home
because i'm sick and then he said yes so i i just didn't i didn't come i didn't know of that
exchange but i would have i would have came though like i totally was feeling fine it was the next
day and i was like okay i'm gonna go out and do it and i was like okay i'm gonna go out and do it and
a.m on a saturday i didn't know that i thought saturdays were the day that we get to sleep in
wrong what days do you get to sleep in matt howard never but never but sleep is not we're done we're
done talking about me being sick it's pissing my wife off too much i'm not even sick i just decided
that i'm completely healthy and fine that's what you have to do it doesn't work that way it does
no it does not it does not work that way i've handled this disease way better than you have
i'm not even sick you just you just started getting it today you're gonna feel way worse
i did not just start getting it today did you have it when did you start getting it never
never that's the thing you think that like you can outsmart your sickness okay moms can't get sick
you guys we sold out again with biswell beauty i don't know if you guys got the news we didn't
post a ton of short form videos about biswell beauty this time because we didn't want to have
a lot of angry people that went to go buy the mascara and and weren't able to so we only posted
i think like one or maybe two videos about it um but it's still in two days mascara completely sold
out you guys are insane i don't know i don't know what's going on i don't know what's in the water
but like it's just it's really good mascara i i guess that's what it is i guess the mascara is
really just that good it is yeah but um we're working to get a lot more so then it's not just
constantly out of stock there's gonna be a lot come in november yeah we're gonna have a new new
there's always like this is something i'm learning i don't really know much about it but i'm going to
learn a lot about this stuff but there's always variables that can like make it later but i'm
really thinking it's going to be here in november right yeah and i don't know if i'm allowed to say
this but i'm just gonna go and say it some of you guys did notice that abby was using something
something special in one of her most recent makeup videos so the comments were kind of on to abby they
saw the product we have a lot of things in the works yeah so that's really exciting yeah how
does it feel to be full-on makeup?
full-on like mom mom momtrepreneur mom you're a mom that's not me no what do you mean i'm not a
momtrepreneur i mean you're a mom and you're an entrepreneur and you're i don't really feel like
i'm an entrepreneur you don't i mean you're literally the definition of an entrepreneur
abby no you're literally if you look up in a dictionary what an entrepreneur is that is
that is what you're doing i don't think so next question okay okay
um no i just really like mascara yeah i that's true i guess and i specifically like this mascara
i guess with you being obsessed with mascara your whole life you probably just know a thing or two
about it and so you just you just knew what your own formula needed you know you just i i love
seeing how everyone's like it's buildable it's like amazing yeah you can get you get the look
that you want like if you want crazy spider lashes you can do that or you want like more natural
you can do that too
um but the best thing is that you can do it quickly and with no other products like you
don't need a primer you don't need to like i don't know do a million layers before you feel
like you have some good results like you can just you're good it's been really fun reading through
everyone's reviews on the website yeah biswell-beauty.com um it's been so much fun i all
the reviews that one's your baby the website yeah guys i pulled actually that's probably why i got
sick is i pulled two all-nighters and i'm like oh my god i'm so tired i'm so tired i'm so tired
working till 5 a.m on the biswell beauty website and i did that because it was when my my parents
were in town the first time so then they were able to wake up with the boys and then i paused
working on the website to help with the the feedings for fisher in the night and then the
second time i pulled an all-nighter was when my mom was in town so then she again woke up with
our three and four-year-old and then i was able to do the night feedings with you but like it was
actually so much fun working on the website like i just i just got to nerd out about like
how do we make it as simple as possible how do we make the the banner have the information that we
need to communicate to everybody how do we make checkout simple like i'm trying to make everything
easier and easier and the website right now i'm happy with it but i think i can still make it
better so i think i'm gonna nerd out at some point in the future not right now should we get an app
get what get an app should we have a biswell beauty app yeah why not maybe i mean i guess
i guess we could um yeah i don't know maybe maybe one day there's a visual beauty app but
no i like the whole point is just to make sure that we're making it as simple as possible
just to make it as easy as possible for people to check out and yeah what's crazy is this time
when we when we dropped people in arizona were already telling us that they received their order
literally within 24 hours of yeah a lot of my friends that ordered got it like within 24 hours
that's crazy so i guess if you're in a nearby state to arizona you could probably expect to
get yours quicker and if if you're like in alaska or hawaii it probably is going to take a little
bit longer because we're because the the fulfillment like we're going through usps so they're they're
the ones doing the shipping yeah yeah um so that's cool it's so sweet like even my friends were
buying it which is so nice i know it's so it's so sweet like every time when someone i almost
like feel bad like when when like friends and family say they're buying it i'm like no like
we'll just give it to you and then i'm like but then i'm like we obviously wouldn't have a business
if we give free mascara to everyone but that's fine i don't know
i do i do ask addy you ask addy you're like addy can i give free mascara she's like yeah they're
like she's like yeah you can have it i was like there's a note on it says ask addy before yeah
i don't know i don't want to mess up any system yeah it is it is like a new it's been a new
adventure it's been it's been really fun like i'm i'm excited for the new drop and i'm excited
for you guys to get to see all the products in the works that abby has um been working diligently on
the thing though is like there was a product that we thought
might be ready for the end of the year but it's going to get pushed into the new year
because we just we just don't want to rush anything like we want to make sure that it's
genuinely good and um with with the factory like they have this they have this whole review process
where they have a ton of different people review the product rate the product um fill out like all
these questionnaires on the product and then and then also do uh do like tests over time to make
sure that it's not just good right when when you open the bottle but it's it's good you know
a stability test yeah stability test thank you abby's better with the terminology than me so
that's in the works too on one of our upcoming exciting products i know so super super proud
of you babe thank you i'm excited for everyone to experience it but also it's just been it's one of
those things where like there's so many exciting things going on in life that it's like that's why
i cannot i didn't want to do it i didn't want to do it i didn't want to do it
as an entrepreneur i'm like it doesn't get the majority of my brain the majority of my brain is
literally going to keeping him alive and happy yeah and you're doing it and you're doing a great
job he's doing great um but yeah i've been really actually loving nursing this time way better this
time around what what made the time in the past with nursing like what was going on that made it
not as good were you getting bit more no our second just didn't really like it as much okay so then um i just
felt like i was inconveniencing him by breastfeeding him he's like i just want a bottle like the whole
time but then he likes it because he doesn't take a binky so okay he really likes can we talk about
the fact that he's been sick now for like a while which is so sad we keep taking him to the doctor
but they just you know they they say turn on the humidifier take him in the in the hot steam shower
so he can not like not in the water but in i'll take him in the shower to the side so he can breathe
in the steam
um and i've done that like even in the middle of the night if he's having trouble yeah you've been good about that breathing i'll do that literally at 3 a.m with fisher in the shower yeah literally that was that really does help that was like me a week ago thank you to cash app for sponsoring this portion of today's episode in today's age i feel like getting money understanding is very confusing for kids oh yeah kind of makes it seem like credit cards are like this magic wand that automatically gets you what you want kids don't have a very tangible understanding of the transfer of money so if you're a parent

Vitamins
the problem i don't get sick the problem is our it's our three and four year old it's they're
gonna be the ones bringing germs in to get him sick we're getting flu shots for sure i heard
that if you get flu shots in the beginning of october but they weren't even able to do strongest
they weren't able to do fisher's vaccine at the doctor right because it was him being sick it was
just yeah it wasn't they're not worried about he'll get back on track okay easily you know that
when i was a baby i think i was like four weeks old i had to get a shot like in my head like they
put like a needle in my head or no that was my brother for me it was something else but a needle
in your head but my mom told me this when she was here visiting um both caleb and i were both
hospitalized for multiple days when we were newborns like we both got sick i got sick as a
newborn too actually were you hospitalized too um they did a spinal tap holy freaking heck i don't
know yeah dang i don't even think anything was wrong with me i think my parents just kind of
freaked out a little bit
it's scary though my soft spot was swollen that's what it was oh yeah which can be really serious i
think they were wanting to rule out meningitis god i didn't have it but yeah it's it's really
scary it's scary i hate it i really hate it but he's never spiked a fever he's been eating amazing
in fact he gained a pound in a week that's oh that's what i brought it up yes even though he's
sick he's been gaining weight like crazy a pound in a week is insane especially especially for a
six-week-old i don't know why like i know that that's like just on him and like his body type
but for me that's like the only that's the only information you can really know about your
newborn is like their weight and like what percentile they are so i just really locked
in on like making him as big as possible but it makes sense abby it makes sense because last night
remember how i gave him five ounces at 3 a.m yeah and he wanted and he was still hungry he literally
like he had six ounces he downed it so fast and i don't know why but i don't know why but i don't
even took time to burp him change his diaper swaddle all that he's still right after that
makes you he started doing this he started like moving his head to the side you could tell he
just wanted more milk and i'm like babe we need to give him another ounce six ounces at six weeks
old is crazy he was five weeks last night five weeks and six days he had a six ounce bottle yeah
um that makes you wonder how much he's getting at the when he breastfeeds because today i breastfed
him and he spit up and he doesn't even do that with a bottle maybe six ounce maybe you gave him
like eight ounces and he just couldn't hold it i can't imagine that but you never know when you're
oh gosh good job buddy that has to help that with him fighting off whatever he's fighting off
eating a lot of food has to be helping right well it just helps him pee a lot
flush everything out yeah he's getting he's staying hydrated he's pulling my hair he smiled
at me i swear he smiled at me yesterday really and then i googled when can babies smile intentionally
and it said six to eight weeks that's really sweet so he's mama's boy for sure i'm excited to
see when
he's like who do we think he's gonna say mama or dada first probably dada i think it's easier for
them to say really yeah why i think it didn't make a difference i thought it was just easy either way
i think it's easier to say dada
it's easier to say dada how do you feel about the fact that in two days
we're taking that guy on a road trip six hour six hour drive to southern california i think
it's great i mean he does really hate the car seat actually our one of my friends sent me a really
helpful tip what was it it's this video of uh babies uh it's not a great we're gonna try it
but they had like one of those uh baby monitors on their car seat of their like little baby girl
and she's like screaming in her car seat and then they turn on the song i got the right temperature
and then she's like she's screaming in her car seat and then they turn on the song i got that right temperature
and then she's like screaming in her car seat and then they turn on the song i got that right temperature
and then she just stops crying and starts smiling so we're gonna try it temperature by sean sean kingston
temperature by sean sean kingston
temperature by sean sean kingston we're gonna try a temperature by sean kingston
we're gonna try a temperature by sean kingston
we're gonna try a temperature by sean kingston the whole way to newport see i think that
the whole way to newport see i think that
the whole way to newport see i think that should work i'm feeling i'm feeling super
should work i'm feeling i'm feeling super
confident in our in our toddlers ability to crush it on the road trip we're going to turn on a movie
they're going to be chilling actually i was going to run this by you i was going to say that for the
first hour they can't watch a movie i think they could do that i think if we tell them we're just
going to give them the yodo yeah listen to the stories and give them books first hour snacks
snacks first hour they do not need anything and then we can let them watch them and then we'll
take it away again for a little bit because i just feel like we're going to get to our destination
and they will be like total zombies yeah you know how screens can because even though it's a six
hour drive we're going to have stops we're going to have bathroom breaks i don't know how this is
going to go honestly at what point do we start bringing like water bottles empty water bottles
in the car so that our kids can just like pee just putting them in pull-ups so that's a good
point but now they don't go in them if they're awake did you know that like me and my brothers
if we were on a road trip my parents didn't want to stop like we would literally like pee in a
that's what my brother did gatorade bottles does everybody do that is that just like girls don't
is that a midwest thing for boys like that was so common yeah i mean no i couldn't no girl can go
pee in a gatorade but i'm saying like when they're 10 like we're not going to put a 10 year old in a
pull-up but right now i think i fully remember blake peeing in gatorade bottles oh gosh do you
think you could fill up if you had a full bottle a full gatorade bottle for sure yes 100 really
oh my god addy i've seen him do it and that's what's weird that's hilarious that's what's weird
about it and you know what it just really looks like gatorade do you know my favorite flavor is
lemon lime do you know what this conversation is reminding me of what do you remember when we were
in hawaii and did wait was it me was it me or you who went pee in hawaii i actually think was that
you did you pee at a coffee coffee mug in the car we just had no other options there was nowhere to
go i swear to you it was in a national park and there was no it was in volcanoes national park
that's the national park we were at there's no other option this was in 2020 this was this was
pre our matt and abby tiktok page okay so i guess i can't do a gatorade bottle but i can do a coffee
mug you have peed in a coffee cup before i don't know how you did it was easier in a rental car
it was just deserted there was nothing wait why didn't you just like pop a squat outside because
it was public like oh that's people could have come by i had to do it in the car yeah um why are
you pulling my hair um so yeah i think the road trip is gonna go good for the first half i think
the second half might get rocky and actually i think tiny might pitch a fit oh he's definitely
gonna pitch some fits but then this man you're not like the thing about him
what makes him different than our other babies is like sometimes he'll just have like a cry fit
for like 10 15 seconds and he just stops like it's like he has some superpower he just knows
he just knows how how to self-soothe already it's crazy he's like and then boom out like
it's like he just needed to let out that rage and then it's gone he was also born a full man
because he grunts instead of crying don't you wait look how cute he is right now
yeah he's just pretty tough is he old enough to where he can see us or his is his eyesight still
not really developed yes he stopped going cross-eyed so but is it is it all is it in black
and white like can he see in color yet i think that's a myth gosh i forget he's not a dog i like
knew the answers to all of this when i like the first time around we like we were doing our
research and now i've kind of just forgot like you know we're just he's he's gonna grow up he
likes me he likes me the best of everybody he does really like you
he's so cute um yeah i think the road trip is going to be a little rough especially because
you have concert tickets that night yeah okay we gotta roast my brother right now so my brother or
is it are we roasting my our sister-in-law or my brother who who bought the concert tickets for
thursday night i think abigail made me respond okay we're roasting abigail so but i mean is
there are there concert dates on wednesday i don't know or on friday basically no we're not
she had the best she's ambitious even though they had good intentions caleb and abby purchased the
concert tickets for thursday night which is the same day that we're driving down so now we're
gonna drive excuse me we're gonna drive over six hours to newport and then not including all the
stops for breastfeeding which takes like 45 minutes it's probably gonna be like a nine hour
journey to newport including all the stops and then we're gonna have to you know unload get into
and then drive like another what two hours another like two hours from newport all the way up to the
hollywood bowl i'm just saying with that with traffic on a on and the evening it could be two
hours do we know where this concert is parking and stuff the hollywood bowl okay the hollywood
bowl so yeah it's after parking and traffic yeah we're talking two hours to get to the hollywood
bowl such a journey you know like when you say you're going to southern california like you kind
of have to be specific i'm just scared to be alone with the kids after a road trip day oh i feel so
established i feel so bad i mean it's gonna be fine we're gonna survive and then i guess yeah i
guess the concert is at eight and we'll have to leave at six so then i won't even really be able
to help with bedtime then no you certainly won't so you're gonna be on your own i'll rope abby in
you're gonna you're gonna have abby yeah i mean i've seen her kids go to bed it's
it's a whole different ball game i admire her for it they love to sleep
they love to sleep like they are they're easy to go down for yes they don't come out really our
kids come out like minimum five times how do we get that in the bud what do we do about that
because i mean i've tried to play i've tried to play tough on them you know what we might need to
do babe we might need to just mean what we say and if they come out of their bedroom even one time
they don't get a show the next day we've done that but no but you i don't think so usually we
give them we give them one hall pass like we give them one time to come out one warning i think
you might just need to say like it's usually valid i'm like they want to drink a water they
gotta go but they abuse they had a bad dream they come out they always have an excuse or they think
of something that they they forgot to tell me and i'm like that's valid are creative they're very
good see they don't feel like excuses to me i'm like that makes sense having a bad dream having
to go potty sometimes they just come out just to say that they are having a hard time sweeping
you
they're like i'm just having a hard time sweeping and i'm like i understand man
it happens so valid i'm like you of all people should know that matt howard but i think i think
it's like we're so lenient with them that then they just they just give us a run for our money
no it's fine i feel like it's not a big deal
i like to see them i feel like you grew up in a less strict household than i did not grow up in a
strict house if you can wait didn't your parents let you fall asleep with like lila
and i'm like i'm not gonna fall asleep with lila and i'm like i'm not gonna fall asleep with lila
i watched elf every single night for about two years and i just wake up in the night going
tracy could never wait were you watching elf in the middle of summer
why were you watching do you know me what like it's nice to meet you
wait i thought this would have been like uh i don't know maybe in october you don't watch it
october november december you're watching it in june you have you have elf on in june of course
this i here's the thing matt i am consistent i was literally in like third grade watching elf
every night to fall asleep see my rebel see okay here i first of all my parents would have never
allowed that but but like i had a tv in my room my rebelling was like reading the percy jackson
books late at night too till like midnight i'd bring a flashlight in my in my room see my
parents allowed that really yeah see i never told them they just didn't know no they allowed that i
did you ever just think to ask uh you know they wouldn't have let me you know what this actually
explains something because neither one of us are strict parents but i feel like you're more strict
than me probably probably yeah but it's pretty low bar yeah i'm not saying we have high expectations
we have good kids we don't need to be that strict yeah i'm not super sure they just they do escape
their room every single night and every single morning thank you to neutrophil for sponsoring
this portion of today's episode i am currently in the thick of postpartum
and i'm going to be in the thick of postpartum and i'm going to be in the thick of postpartum

hair shedding is definitely part of that especially around my temple line right where it's most
visible usually around three to four months is when i start noticing the most hair shedding and
that's when i rely on my neutrophil the most i've used neutrophil for years now and i really truly

promo code unplanned pod yeah i have started though like the one thing that i'm pretty strict
on is like if one of our kids hits another kid or if they hit their brother yeah like then it's
just like they're gonna catch my wrath you're in time it's like time out right away and is it okay
the whole the whole making time out that the amount of minutes that they are years old is that
was that like from some like curriculum like where i learned that from you like where did we get and i
have no idea where i got that where did we get that from i don't know i feel like we're scrapbooking
our parenting style because now that now that we have a four-year-old i'm like you're in time out
for four minutes because you're four like that's just what it is and i told you that was too stern
you told me that was too i'm like we're just figuring out as we go no here this is something
we are very strict on as non-strict parents is how they treat each other it's really important
to me that they are nice to each other and i'm like you are kind to everybody but especially to
your brother i will say one caveat with parenting is like knowing when to lay down the law and
knowing when like the situation just isn't right and you need to like split your kids up and change
like the environment and that's what's going to fix the problem like sometimes you don't you don't
need to like discipline in school and all this stuff it's really just your kid's just freaking
tired you gotta just put him in bed you know one thousand percent like sometimes that's the problem
and the quicker you can get him down for bed the faster you're gonna have
the problem solved yeah you're like you're just really tired and we're gonna have grace
for that but can you imagine if adults were like well they didn't i wish you did that to me when i
started getting chirpy like just be like go to bed no i just know that you're hungry i'm like
i'm like when was the last time you you ate food yeah have you ever tried feeding me more often
but can you imagine if like if grown-ups were like i i was just like so tired so i ended up
like robbing the the bank you know it's like so exhausted and it just wasn't my fault it's like
they were tired only for kids
yeah i guess that's why we i mean you don't get that even once you're even in like
beyond nap taking age basically okay you need to fill me in more on this whole watching tv to fall
asleep thing like when did that become a thing for you when were you watching show watching elf
to fall asleep at night was this before or after you had insomnia as a kid before so so are you
like i was like i mean it's from my earliest memories probably like first grade you're in
first grade seven years old seven years old seven years old seven years old seven years old seven
years old like falling asleep to elf every night was there a tv but there's a tv in your room there's
a tv in your room yes that was like a mickey mouse that was like the number one rule my parents would
never allow us to have a tv in our room i don't think your parents like that we had a tv in our
room for a period of time as married adults did we have a tv in our room initially i thought we
had our tv in the living room when we first got married no i'm talking about in our other house
um now i'm curious since you had a tv in your room growing up i didn't have a tv in my room growing up
are we gonna let our kids i'm a better sleeper than you are we gonna have are we gonna have tvs
in our kids rooms no you don't like that well um they're just so little i can't even i don't know
maybe down the line i feel like the question is less about tvs probably no not with the internet
now because it's more about devices and like because i was playing an actual dvd oh yeah
that feels different i was playing herbie fully loaded and elf that's why does that feel see why
does tv feel classic now like tv almost feels like healthy like watching a movie doesn't feel bad
when like scrolling social media and that's what's sad is is like not good and that's what's
maybe we can let them take the portable dvd player with like disney movies into the room
maybe that's the move sure you know that could give them autonomy then they can choose
didn't you make blake sleep in your room with you when you were a kid yeah you got
sad if you slept alone yeah i've always been a codependent person i'm in therapy so
you bought the portable dvd players for a road trip we did a year ago yeah and then we got a
car that has dvd players so are we done using the dvd player the portable dvd players oh my gosh
remember that with vhs's you had to rewind the tape yeah to get to the beginning of it gosh v
our kids will never understand vhs like even a vhs player gosh i remember when dvds were like
the new exciting thing yeah and then they got blu-ray yeah and i was like oh gosh this this
shows our age i was excited because we i bought off of facebook marketplace a blu-ray player for
our first apartment together remember that we had bought a blu-ray player for our first apartment
we had rent movies from family video oh my gosh and we put them on the blu-ray player to watch
them on our tv remember that true because they had family video had like streaming wasn't that
big when we first got married oh i mean it was it was big but like family video just had these
deals where you could get a movie for like a dollar yeah and this is this is like 10 years
after the red box came out so it was like does does anybody still do red box is red box still
around no red box is a streaming service now who but why would you use red box like does
red box have originals the movie you want to watch on there is on red box i have not used that gosh
that was big like red box wipes out blockbuster isn't red box a streaming service now they probably
have one i feel like blake can add you know everything tv and movies i feel like it actually
had something to do with netflix like they had a chance to buy it well well like blockbuster was
the big thing for the longest time and then red box took blockbuster out and then i feel like
red box took blockbuster yeah because people
people didn't want to have to go inside a blockbuster store spend way more money on a movie
and like it was just a convenience thing you could blockbuster every friday night you could
spend less money and get a movie faster on red box than you would on blockbuster
yeah we used to get uh free movies for our grades at family video i used to get free donuts at
krispy kreme for my grades so we didn't have krispy and free pizza at pizza hut they had a
special if you had stray days you could get a free personal i know truce was on top of that my mom knew
the deals for your grades i love that
dang
i wonder why they never like tried to sell you know or maybe they tried to and nobody wanted
to buy them because they weren't really worth anything anymore i feel like they could repurpose
those machines there's certainly something else you can rent but i keep buying for you
i'm not tired you're not i keep buying you literally gaslighting yourself i'm not tired
and you know what it works i feel good right um i i literally hate my brain right now i love your
brain no i need it i want someone to install a baby monitor in our pantry for how many times i
walk in there and there's not a single thought in my head i just start standing there and i'm just
like you like can't remember why you went to the pantry no that happens i gotta be honest matt
the brain fog is so bad when i finally get your attention sometimes because it's kind of hard to
get your attention when i finally get your attention i get stage fright then babe and then
i'm like and then i can't even tell you what to do i feel like i've been telling you what
to do
all the time but then when i get your attention i can't remember i can't put to words what i need
you to do here here's what's hard about the stage of life we're in right now is like your your plate
is you're maxed out you're you're doing so much and then like i don't want to compare myself to
you because what you're you know postpartum as a mom if you just gave birth and you're
breastfeeding all the time like there's no there's no freaking comparison but like it's
not easy as a dad you know handling three kids one of them's a newborn and a dog
and all the work responsibilities and like hosting stuff at our house like we're we're both we've got
a lot on our plate and it's just like hard it's a it's a season of hard but just knowing that it's
it's going to get easier is i think what's really important to keep at the forefront of our minds
yeah i'll get easier as soon as i have a functioning brain this is temporary also what
you mentioned about going in the pantry and having a brain fart not knowing what you went into the
pantry for that's literally the story of my life that happens to me all the time like i'll go
upstairs and i'm like i'm gonna go to the pantry and i'm gonna go to the pantry and i'm gonna go to
the pantry and i'll be like why did i come up here and then i go downstairs and remember why i went
upstairs and then and and yeah and then sometimes it happens twice and that's really annoying when
it happens twice yeah it's a struggle should i just hold our baby i could just like give him a
little butt tap he's just talking he's so vocal today he's moving he's moving a lot um yeah no
my brain is not really firing right he doesn't really like sometimes he just likes his independent
we had a nap i i like uh he like he doesn't do that he napped on my on my uh belly earlier today
it was kind of sweet um okay how about we go ahead and play a little bit of would you rather
action would you like to go ahead and read off the first question for us support for today's

dot com slash go slash unplanned get the right tools in place for the year ahead get started
with square today would you rather wake up for the 12 a.m feeding or the 4 a.m
feeding um we do both of them i mean just like recently he's only been waking up once in the
night no but if i was like we're gonna split the night up i'm gonna take the first half or the
second half which one would you rather take probably the first yeah me too i get into deeper
sleep as the night goes on no i just don't want the 4 a.m one because it's harder to get him back
to sleep yeah that's what we were doing for that first like couple weeks and i was up at four
something and i was like that was criminal
yeah i was just also so lonely the whole time yeah and now we're we're tag teaming it he's only
been waking up once recently i know yeah with with doing the dream feeding we've been dream feeding
him every night at like nine o'clock and then he only wakes up around like three o'clock we can't
really count it as a dream feed if i'm totally honest because he's wide awake for it okay we
give him we give him like a big old bottle at nine o'clock yeah and then and then yeah and
then give him an even bigger bottle at the one wake up yeah um your baby sleeps through the night
for one week at six weeks old but then not again until one year old or your baby never sleeps
through the night until five months old uh the second one obviously is that even a question
like that's just of course well i mean sometimes maybe we could be experiencing this golden period
right now with him this is a golden period no we could like right now he's sleeping pretty good
but maybe he could this is what i'm terrified for the four-month
sleep regression that's yeah i don't want to do that i want to i want to opt out of that one
however we can do that because that's almost worse i almost think waking up or i okay this
is my take the four-month sleep regression is harder than fresh newborn where he's been so
much easier than our past kids is he really doesn't wake up in the night other than to eat
because he doesn't take a binky no i think he's falling out our past kid like both of our boys
our children yeah our our current children who are now three and four bro like multiple times
a night just waking up needing to be soothed back to sleep remember when abigail said to us that
she's never had to soothe her babies i was like i said what do you mean what alternate planet are
you on like she's like yeah unless they needed to eat or were sick everyone just has a different
experience that is crazy would you rather change your newborn's poopy diaper or your two-year-old's
diaper yeah his diapers are fun they just don't even really smell and they're little tiny only
liquid i mean the only instance would be if like they're peeing on my face but like that doesn't
really happen he only peed on me once so far i've only gotten peed on once okay well wait have i
gotten no twice i've gotten i think i've been peed on like 20 times really yes minimum okay he what i
usually do is i just get all the farts and poops out i just do all the leg maneuvers in the night
so that he gets everything out before i go to sleep i just do all the leg maneuvers in the night
before i take the diaper off that's so like it's like a pre-diaper change routine that i do
would you rather go on a five-hour solo flight with your 10-month-old or a five-hour drive
with your six-week-old definitely the drive with the six-week-old six-week-old is probably
going to sleep the entire time 10-month-old trying to fly with a 10-month-old is insane
i have the worst time i've vlogged like last when we've done that in the past with augie
like he would be crawling up and down the aisles i would be walking him
walking around and people's hair they're too young to care to like watch miss rachel so they
just like you just i try to read them books like it's it's like an entire hands-on experience at
that point yeah a five-hour flight with the 10-month-old sounds like hell it's not a good
time to fly would you rather have a baby who sleeps through the night but only naps for 30
minutes at a time or a baby that wakes up three times a night but takes two hour long naps
probably the sleeping through the night honestly
sleep if you we are united sleeping through the night is just so much better wow i totally agree
yeah we can okay you just gotta master nighttime sleep that's right daddy don't you agree or would
you rather they take that long naps probably long naps crazy at that point you're working again
yeah i get it see but now we have well he's not in school our older boys are in school
i just get i i used to get so spooked by the nighttime wake-ups like i was like i can't
do it yeah um would you rather have a baby who smiles early or crawls early
oh probably uh why do i think crawling like i think the crawling is cool crawling is probably
the worst baby stage really i'm totally honest but it's kind of fun to see them crawl around it's
like wow look at them go you know yeah it's fun when they're crawling at your house when they're
crawling on an airport floor in a public restroom it's just like a fun it's like fun entertainment
you know then you're getting sick constantly
that's why you bring some you know little wipes with you you can wipe your hands off i think
crawling is the worst i think it's a great i'm so glad that they're doing it because it's good
healthy normal development but it is the most okay we're disagreeing on that it keeps things
interesting it does keep things interesting yeah would you rather have an early walker or an early
talker probably an early hmm i'm gonna say early talker yeah early talker you want them i think
it's the worst part about babies is that they can't tell us what they need or what they want
with our kids yeah it's really a whole new world if it's just one word like conversations like if
they just say i don't know golly golly golly go if they say that yeah that's cool like i just feel
like they're trying to say something to me they want to connect with me i say that because that
was our that was our kids like first golly golly golly golly golly golly golly go would you rather
deal with a crying baby or a toddler throwing a tantrum probably the um uh actually the toddler
You'd rather deal with that?
Yeah.
The crying baby noise just like gives me PTSD.
I think it's like, it's, it kind of puts me into panic.
I gotta be so honest with you.
Our kids throwing tantrums does not faze me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And a crying baby doesn't faze me anymore, but like tantrums, they don't.
I don't know what it is, but the toddler tantrums just don't have anything on the newborn, like
cry, the screams for me.
I can handle a tantrum any day.
I think, I think, yeah, tantrums.
I also feel like our kids are really easy to distract.
Totally.
Yeah.
I can get their mind off of it pretty quick.
Yeah.
Um, would you rather have a C-section or deliver your baby on the side of the road?
If you were pregnant, Matt.
If I was pregnant, um, probably a C-section.
I would much rather have a C-section.
Probably this, like, that sounds terrifying.
If Matt was my OB, oh my.
Also like that, I just like thought about.
The risk factors, that scares me.
Yeah, having a baby on the side of the road, so much can go wrong.
That also means I'm unmedicated.
Yeah.
Not doing that.
A blowout.
I am so afraid of puke.
See the problem with puke is it just like the blowout is contained usually on the clothes, but the, but the puke just, it could be on the carpet, on a chair, on the couch.
And then I'm also like, I'm going to puke.
Yeah.
And it smells so bad.
I'm afraid of throwing up.
Blowouts are more manageable than puke.
You're right.
Yeah, blowouts, no problem.
I, cleaning up puke is one of my least favorite things to do.
Why?
I'm so scared.
That's just like the dad's job, isn't it?
I literally, I think that's something that I will never get used to.
It's the puke.
You've cleaned it up before.
That's true.
We did, we did have that happen.
That was awful.
And then our entire family got sick.
Yeah.
That was a horrible vacation.
That was, that might go down as one of the worst.
The worst trips we've ever had.
And you know what?
He was probably like, what?
10 months old.
And, and then our car got stuck on the way to the airport and you were panicking.
Wasn't stuck.
The parking brake was just on.
You're done.
That's crap.
Oh my gosh.
Do not remind me.
Do you now finally admit that that was the parking brake?
I guess.
I mean, that was, that was probably one of the worst vacations ever.
We called the neighbors.
Babe.
Okay.
Here's the thing though.
I think someone turned the parking brake on while we were trying.
We were boiling.
We were pressing water.
We were pressing all the buttons on that car to get that car to get out.
Matt, no.
You, that was all you.
That was crazy.
Would you rather have a less than two year age gap between your kids or more than two years?
Uh.
Both.
Probably less than, probably less than two, but not too much less.
Like I'm talking like a month less than two.
What do you mean?
Just because then they're such, they're so like, they're such good buddies, you know?
So you think the best age gap would hypothetically be 23 months?
Maybe.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Okay.
23 month age gap is the perfect age gap.
Like my brother and I are 19 months apart and then Griffin and Augie are 13 months apart.
And the closer you are in age, I think the closer you end up being to each other.
Like Caleb and I were like, we, we, you know, hang out again.
But like when we were kids, like we did everything together.
So I think it's really sweet.
That's sweet.
Really sweet.
When you can have that, like.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I will say two under two has a range within it.
Like if you're two under two for one month versus two under two for 11 months.
Yeah.
It's pretty different.
Big difference.
Even, I think 18 months would even be pretty good.
Yeah.
Get to 18 months.
I'm yawning, but I'm not tired.
I'm just.
You're not tired.
Yeah.
It's all, it's made up.
Yeah.
When did you learn to, who taught you to like say stuff like I'm not sick or I'm not tired?
I don't know.
Would you say it's more your mom or your dad?
Probably my dad.
Your dad?
Yeah.
My dad is never sick.
He doesn't, he doesn't miss work.
Your dad's a great employee.
He's never sick.
If anybody wants to hire Abby's dad, he does not.
He's completely employed right now.
Remember when he said.
But he will never miss a day of work.
No, he could probably use a new job.
So keep your feelings out.
No.
When I remember Blake took a sick day when he was working remote and my dad was like,
you're working remote.
Like, why are you going to be sick?
Well, that's what I.
And then Blake was like, I took my temperature and I have a fever.
He's like, you're an adult.
Why are you taking your temperature?
But see, that's how I felt when you.
What?
He's very, he's very jumpy.
When you wanted me to cancel all my meetings on Friday, I was like, babe, like I, I can't.
I got the, I, that just really triggered something.
I got, I, this is from my dad.
I did not take my temperature.
I've seen you have that little.
thermometer on your head before.
When was that?
Put that thing away.
You're saying you've never taken your temperature with that thing?
Uh, I probably have at some point in the past four years.
That was icky.
Never do that again.
Well, I will never, I'll never do that.
I'm a little worried about being trapped in a car for actually, okay.
I'm excited.
I'm excited to be trapped in a car with our whole family.
I've been trapped in a car for the whole day, two days in a row.
I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic.
I can't either.
Honestly, I think it could go really good or really bad.
Here's the thing.
We have road tripped with, uh, like a baby.
That's one, like six weeks old with each kid, because I don't like flying with
them until they have like all their, all the shots, three months, three months.
They get like a lot of vaccines, vaccines.
Um, so I don't like that until.
So, but I still want to, I'm itchy to travel and road tripping feels like a good way to
like dip your toes in and get used to like, get out of the house and get a little, get
a little, the stir craziness out, but I'm a little worried about it.
I'm excited to go to the beach.
I'm excited for some cooler weather.
It's been so hot still.
I'm sick of the, the heat here, even in September.
I'm like, how is it?
That's what he needs.
He needs to get outside.
How is it over a hundred when it's like over a hundred?
I'm excited to take the boys to super Mario world or super Nintendo world, I think is
the official name.
Our kids love Mario.
They've never, I don't think they've been, I think maybe we like walked through it when
we went to universal like two years ago, but I think they were just too young to like really
remember.
I have no idea.
So this'll be like their first time.
They're going to have so much fun going with their uncle and cousin too.
Oh yeah.
Well, cause we, we went to go see the super Mario movie with my brother and my nephew
like a couple months ago.
So like the movie is fresh on their mind.
We've even played.
We've played Mario on our switch with them.
Like they love the, they love Mario cart.
Yeah.
So I think like all things Mario are just, they're right up their alley right now.
That'll be really fun.
Yeah.
What are we going to do on like on Saturday?
Cause right now the game plan is Thursday night concert.
John Bellion Friday is going to be a super Nintendo world Saturday.
What are we going to do that day?
Just the beach, I guess.
Go to the beach with the kids.
Yeah.
And then Sunday we drive back.
Yeah.
That's a quick trip.
Yeah.
That's going to be like really fast.
I wish we had another day.
We can add another day.
Should we add another day?
I don't know.
The Airbnb was pretty expensive.
I don't know.
We're driving.
Newport is pricey.
We're driving all that way.
I'm like, might as well add another beach day in.
Newport is so expensive.
It is expensive.
I just need to work out again and then I can clear my head.
That is what's a bummer.
I have like a, I've got a workout street going right now and I'm, it's going to, I'm going
to break it.
You can go on a run.
I know, but I won't be able to live.
Like the reason I've been gaining muscle is from lifting.
So I won't be able to lift when we're driving Thursday.
You've been getting a lot bigger.
Thanks.
Yeah.
I've been, I've been lifting really hard and taking creatine.
Do you think that helps?
Oh yeah.
Creatine, protein, all of that helps.
Should I take some creatine?
Sure.
I was actually shocked when I went to your gym.
Like, yeah, they, they promote creatine.
They're like, take your creatine, take your protein.
Like, well, mostly for recovery.
I didn't know that, like that a lot of moms were doing creatine these days.
I didn't know that until I went to your gym.
I actually don't know if you can do it while you're breastfeeding.
So I'm probably going to wait.
I don't know.
Can you?
Oh, I guess you can.
I just know that you need to drink a lot of water when you take creatine because creatine.
I thought you were going to say when you're breastfeeding.
I'm like, yes, you do.
But with creatine, it can mess you up if you don't drink enough water and you're taking
it.
Is it bad for your liver?
Probably.
Let me tell you, the thirst when you're breastfeeding, I know people talk about it all the time.
Here's what I don't understand.
I get thirsty the minute he latched or the second he latches, not when I have a letdown.
Like, it's just a me.
When it immediately hits, it's like I got caught in mouth.
It's crazy.
I just need someone to remind me when you look in, like, the feeling that you have postpartum
when you look in the mirror.
Addie, did you get this?
When you were postpartum, when you looked in the mirror, you didn't quite feel like
you, like, recognize yourself?
Just even your face?
Like, I think I'm going to not recognize my own face until I'm done breastfeeding.
I'm not kidding.
You know what?
That's sad.
You don't feel like you recognize yourself?
It's not sad.
It's just like, it's a weird feeling.
Like, I look at my face and I'm like, I'm pretty sure I'm not breastfeeding.
I'm pretty sure that's me.
Postpartum is like, you just feel like you're a newborn baby and also taking care of a newborn
baby.
Same time.
