Welcome to the Fantasy Baseball Today podcast from CBS Sports. [Cheering] Got a fantasy question, email fantasy
[email protected]. Get ready to win your league. [Cheering] Now here's Frank Scott and Chris. What's up and welcome in to Fantasy Baseball Today on Tuesday June 9th. I am Frank Sample Joey, five Scout White and Chris Towers, Dan the Show, five confusing pictures. We have a slugfest in Las Vegas which is still going the game just tied to the night thinning. So lots to talk about in that game. Only it games on the schedule though, so you know what that means. Fantasy feud baby, let's go. Yes. I need to redeem myself after the embarrassment last time. Scott is out for revenge. Oh, revenge game. Yes, let's do it. Let's jump in. Oh, Toledo, the Alan with a surprise, praise supreme. All right, let's kick things off with the players of the night and we've got two aces up top Chris to first Sanchez. You are up. Yes, Christopher Sanchez might just be the best pitcher in fantasy. And at the very least, I think he has to be tiered at the very, very top of the position he had yet another remarkable game. You know, it was his worst start in like a month and a half because he gave up two whole runs over his seven innings, but it was, I believe the seventh straight start of seven innings or more for Christopher Sanchez. He struck out 10, walked one. He is down to a actually up, I guess, after tonight to a 154 ERA down to a 106 whip, 113 strike outs. He has thrown. This is the key thing. This is the thing that makes me think maybe we need to just have Christopher Sanchez at the very top. He has thrown 26 more innings than Paul schemes now or 23 more innings. I think it's 23 more innings than Paul schemes. Schenes will presumably start tomorrow and make up a little ground, but Paul schemes is currently not in the top 30 in innings pitched in the majors. And Christopher Sanchez leads the majors in innings pitch now. He leads the majors in innings per start. He leads the majors in. I think I'm on qualifiers. He leads an ERA. No, he's second now after tonight's start after his terrible two earned run start. He fell behind Jacob as you're asking for the ERA lead. I mean, the strikeout numbers are borderline elite now. It's 30% strikeout rate. He's got the best walk rate of his career. I think Christopher Sanchez might need to be the number one starting pitcher at the very least. He deserves to be in that tier. And maybe, maybe I'm too late to say this. Maybe some of you already thought he deserved to be there. I I'm with you now. If that's the case, we had this exact conversation last week, Chris. It was, you know, Sanchez ahead of Paul schemes. And I did my rankings on Thursday and I always lean heavily on XERA and K minus walk rate. I like to look at an East pitch per start as well. Scheme still had the edge in both XERA and K minus walk rate. But man, what Sanchez is doing right now, you mentioned seven plus andnings and seven straight. He has allowed a total of five earned runs over his last eight starts. He is just he is in a different stratosphere right now. And I had to buy yourself for later on. I think we're there. I think Christopher Sanchez is the SP one in fantasy. Scott. Is my one word of caution here? And look, I don't know what's I'm not going to pretend I can pick to predict the future. And obviously Christopher Sanchez has been the best pitcher in fantasy to this point. Like, I'm not arguing against that. That's what he's been. It's just the question of is he going to be the rest of the way? And so the one word of caution I would offer on that is he did have a stretch very much like this last June in July. And start stretch this year with a point five one ERA and five walks. That's compared to a six start stretch last June in July with a one two two ERA and four walks. Both stretches. He was consistently going seven eight nine andnings. He had one six inning start during last year's stretch is managed to avoid having any. So it's been a little better. And last year, but my point is it was just similar for for about the same length of time last year. Christopher Sanchez looked like he deserved to be the top pitcher in fantasy. And then obviously he wasn't from that point for is still very good. Everybody drafted him like an ace this year. And again, I'm not trying to be a Christopher Sanchez hater here. If the season ended today, I'd give him this I young. And I think he's very good. You know, we are talking about Paul schemes who has been a little shaky lately, but the season's not over yet. And we all know how talented he is. He began his career with consecutive years of a sub to ERA. So I don't know. I mean, at the end, it's kind of academic. I don't think anybody's with Paul schemes is sitting here trading him for Christopher Sanchez or the other way around. But I guess I just, you know, I don't want to. I don't want to overreact to an incredible run. That is probably just because of how incredible it is going to have to dissipate at some point. Yeah. I think the biggest thing for me is just, schemes has not, like he's incredible, but the one knock on him, he hasn't leveled up in terms of the volume yet. Yeah. I don't know, like he's under six innings per start, right? 70 innings and 13 starts. That's below six. Yeah, that's well below. That's close to five, I think. He's gone five and a third or less in four straight. Now, we are talking about maybe the worst stretch of Paul scheme's career right now and the best stretch of Christopher Sanchez career. I might split it and just say Sanchez and points, schemes and head to head or Sanchez and points schemes in Roto just because the ERA and WIP have been so elite for schemes over the past three years. But man, Sanchez, it's just remarkable what he's doing. He's doing it throwing the change up more. It's just been an absolute monster pitch for him too. So yeah, it's 50% with rate on his change up. It's still throwing a 40% of the time. It somehow has gotten better. It's crazy. Yeah. And 82 mile an hour average, ex of velocity, negative four degree launch angle. So even if you're not making contact, half the time hit hit or swing at the change up, they're not making contact. And when they do, they're doing nothing with it. They're like Billy Hamilton when they hit his change up. It's wild. Yeah. So I do just want to remind people too. I guess to go back to Paul Schien's for a second. He also just had an eight star stretch from April 1st to May 12th, where he had a 109 ERA and a 0.53 WIP. So he's certainly capable of going on one of these runs. These are the top two pictures in fantasy right now. Tarek's Google, if he returns and looks like himself, we'll obviously be back in that conversation as well. Whether or not you want Sanchez or Schien's, that's up to you. I believe that I'll be moving Sanchez up to my SP one later this week. Do you want to talk about Logan Webb, who just had probably his best start of the season against the nationals eight innings of one run ball. He had seven strikeouts to zero walks, 11 whiffs on 99 pitches that change up looked great. Six of those 11 whiffs came on that change up. And he's spread out his pitch makes a little bit more this year. He's just using more pitches. He has five different pitches he's starting between like 10 and 35% of the time. So he's mixing in the cutter a little bit more of the four scene fastball. I guess time will tell if that's actually a good thing for him, but he's looked much better over his last two starts 15 innings one run, 11 strikeouts, just one walk. So I had a buyer self for later on. Logan Webb is back. I'm thinking on back. Do you guys agree? I buy it. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it certainly looks like it. He's been especially good in the three starts. Coming back from the aisle with the the knee percitis and it's not exactly clear when his knee started bothering him. He clearly aggravated it enough that he wound up on the aisle. That was on April 30th. He made one start after that. It was his worst start so far. But he was struggling even before then just. He wasn't bad. He was working deep into games. you will.
was, you know, he had a share of quality starts, but the ERA was more in the fours, like obviously higher than we're used to seeing it. He was giving up a lot of hits and just didn't seem quite himself. So I think the IELS sent help Tim to get back to feeling 100% because he certainly pitched that way since returning. I had some concerns about him before then, but at this point, it looks like Logan Webb is back, like Gianna Reeves says. - Yeah, so I think he's back in that, you know, top 24 ish SP conversation, low NSP2. Like leader on higher whips, we know that better and appoints league lots of volume, but just good to see Logan Webb back healthy and over the last two starts looking much more like himself. Let's talk about this lug fest, which again is still going on. The A's had a two-run lead going into the top of the ninth, Hogan Harris came on for the save, gave up two runs, so here we are, tie game, bottom of the ninth inning, but man, Chris, you were spot on, I'm happy you brought this up yesterday because you were not kidding. This ballpark, it's a PCL ballpark, the ball is flying eight combined home runs in this game so far, it's not over yet. And you know, poor Kyle Harrison, man. I mean, he was on the receiving end of a lot of that, he gave up eight runs, seven of those earned, we'll get to him in a second. I guess let's talk about some of the hitters who went off here, Tyler Sotersham, double-dong. Love to see it, he's looked better as of late, five home runs in his past 12 games, and Chris, you were talking to us beforehand about one of the home runs that he hit, just kept on flying, presumably because of where he was playing tonight. Yeah, that's been, I think, the key theme, because this is actually a very big ballpark, it's like 340 down the lines, 410 to center, 13-foot walls in left field, and yet it is a very, very advantageous park for hitters, and you see it with the Tyler Sotersham home run, where it was hit 99.2 miles per hour with a 32-degree launch angle, and it traveled 418 feet. I looked up every other bad ball this season with an X velocity between 99 and 101, and a launch angle between 31 and 33 degrees. Those traveled 383 feet on average. This one traveled 45 feet more. There was only one other 400-foot home run in that range, it was at course field. That's what you would expect, the ball travels further in thin air. The situation in Las Vegas is-- But this one went even further, right? Yes, it was 418 feet. So you could just by that one data point, you could argue this is even hitter-friendly here. Yeah, think over. And look, I have no idea what the-- I presume they're using a humidor, and they've been storing the balls there. I know that's what they did for Mexico. They started storing the balls there multiple weeks in advance to get them ready, but it's not a complete fix for the desert air. It helps. And in this instance, I believe Vegas is under what is called a red flag warning right now, which is a meteorological term that typically is used to warn of heightened wildfire risk, because it's low humidity, high temperatures, and increased wind. Well, those are also things that would make the ball travel much further. And I think that's what we're seeing. So yeah, this is a wild situation. I've seen-- there is this thing where people do like, oh, Monor League ballpark to write off offensive performance. You saw it with Vammer Guerrero when the blue Jays played in their Monor League parks, and you saw it with the A's moving to Sacramento. And it's like, well, no, Monor League ballpark, some are picture-friendly. The Florida State League is a very picture-friendly league. The Midwestern League is a very picture-friendly league. I don't know if that's what those leagues are actually called anymore. I can't keep track. It's the specifics of the PCL that make this such a favorable offensive environment. Now, for the A's-- I almost called them the golden nights. Boy, that-- I've been watching a little Stanley Cup. That shouldn't be an issue, because it's going to be a temperature-controlled environment. It will be at elevation, so I would assume the Vegas A's stadium will eventually be pretty hitter-friendly, no matter what, just because-- I hope they make it bigger than this one. But this one big, like you say, but they need to make it even bigger. Yeah, this is just-- we talk like that. There's so much talk about dimensions for ballparks. And that's only one factor that goes into making a ballpark hitter or a picture-friendly. Seattle's actually a pretty small ballpark. It's just the environmental factors make it so hard to hit there. So we are seeing what happens when you play a majorly baseball in a PCL park. And it's kind of fun. This game's been wild. Yeah, well, to further illustrate the point of the seven home runs that have been hit so far-- 8. 8. 8. So I don't even have the data for the latest one. But only three were hit above 102 miles per hour. So you look at the-- usually people when they're comparing, OK, was this a cheap home run or not. You look at home run per park, like home run slash park, that number on baseball, Savant. And you look at for each of these home runs just based on distance, which is what that's measuring. They'd be out-- most of these home runs would be out in every park. I mean, the cheapest according to that metric would be out in 25 of 30 parks. But you have to dig a little deeper in terms of how hard they were actually hit. And the exit velocities to the home run distances don't match up, which is also illustrative-- and I tried to make this point illustrative, illustrative-- it's also illustrative of the point I was making with Alex Breggman prior to the season. People were doing the home run by park number with him going to Riggly. And I'm like, that's not a perfect calculation because it doesn't account for environmental conditions perfectly. And we're seeing that illustrated with this very game in Las Vegas where it's saying these aren't cheap home runs, but I'll put a couple of them actually are pretty cheap. Quickly run through the rest of these home runs. Shay Bangaliers, I think I can use that this time, because his home run traveled 483 feet, at least in this ballpark it did. The longest home run in MLB this season. Nick Kurtz hit his 13th. Zach Gelloff, two hits, including his 7th home run, his first home run since May 19th. Gelloff has quietly been very good. He's hitting 270. He's got 7 home runs, six deals, 774 OPS and 50 games. That's like close to a 2020 pace. He's 49% rostered. He's an everyday player, second, third, and an outfield eligible. Scott, do you think Zach Gelloff should be more than 49% rostered? Some power, some speed, three different positions? I think a little more. I think he probably deserves to be rostered. About like Ezekiel Doran is rostered, and I think he's closer to 60% if memory serves. Sounds great. And there's a chance for Gelloff to gain ground from there. I mean, he brings the speed element. Doran is almost 70% by the way. Okay, so yeah, closer to 70%. Gelloff brings the speed element. He's always had major contact issues, but that hasn't been as much of a problem this year, down to 24% K rate coming into this game. So he's definitely is trending up and multi-eligible. Yeah, I think he deserves to be rostered and more leagues than he is. On the bruer side of things so far, Bryce Tarrang hit his 10th home run of the season. He did have a two-homer game over the weekend as well. Jake Bauer is another one. His 12th home run, Andrew Vaughn. Jake Bauer's one, by the way, that looked like the most environment aided one because it just kept carrying. He hit it like 104 miles an hour and it went 460 feet to dead center. It just did not stop. And Andrew Vaughn, he is up to four hits and hit his second home run. You know, Chris, it's unfortunate because I know you liked him coming in. I like Andrew Vaughn too. I think he's legit. A good hitter. He showed that down the stretch last year, but he's just kind of stuck in the short side platoon role right now. And there's just not much utility and fantasy as long as that's the case. Yeah, it's a tough situation because they're not going to bench Christian Yaluch, nor should they. But Andrew Vaughn and Jake Bauer is both deserved to play more. And Bauer's is pretty much an everyday player at this point because he can play the outfield. But it's a tough situation for them because they have so many interchangeable parts. And I think Vaughn and Bauer's might be two of their five best hitters. And there just might not be enough opportunities for them to play every day. I think this is trending toward Bauer's becoming like a full time outfielder to get Vaughn in the lineup. I mean, Andrew should. Yeah, I mean, South Freelik is playing almost every day still and he has been, I don't even think he's played to a 600 OPS. Oh, they are getting nothing from like the Brewers are on pace for like 100 wins again, or 97 wins or whatever. And they've gotten nothing from shortstop, third base, or the corner outfield spots. It's kind of wild. I think they're a below six. This is okay. Left field, six 80 OPS. Right field, five 63. Yeah, that's where free like has played the most is you to. Yeah. So that would make sense. [BLANK_AUDIO]
Richard Kyle Harrison started this game. He got crushed. He gave up seven runs. Eight runs, excuse me, seven of those earned three homers allowed. He did get tagged. He gave up a lot of hard contact. Eight hard hits in this one, 100.1 average EV. So it's not just, oh, he was pitching in basically Kores Field. He actually did get crushed. Do we just kind of chalk it up to, well, pitching in this environment type thing and just keep on moving? That whole thing Chris and I went on that whole demonstration we did. I think it was all meant as a defense for Kyle Harrison. That was, that was the main point of it from my perspective anyway. And just a reminder, who the projected pitchers are for the rest of the series, Robert Gascer, JTGin, Jack Perkins, and then the starter for the Brewers on Wednesday is currently TBD. So I know JTGin has been really good. I don't think that you should use him here on Tuesday in this specific matchup in this environment. And well, they're playing another series there to follow this one even now. It's with Colorado coming in. So we don't worry about anyone on that side, but Gage Jump is starting that series. And obviously it's a very good matchup in theory. Oh, my God. I had him among the sleeper pitchers for this week, but William Kichar just hit a three round home run where he felt the ground. He had 463 feet. I mean, that one was actually hit 107 miles per hour, but like 107 miles per hour should not be turning into 463 feet. This is a, wow, a long curse environment. This is a video game, and this is crazy, crazy stuff. All right. Still in cease will officially return Tuesday to start against the Phillies. I believe you guys answered this yesterday, but you guys are good getting Dylan Seas back in there, right? Yeah. All right. It turns out Connor Griffin will not be back as soon as originally thought after getting a second opinion from Dr. Keith Meister. Griffin is dealing with a flexor mass muscle strain. So something we'll have to watch pretty closely. Apparently, O'Neill Cruz suffered a cut on his hand during Saturday's game and is considered day to day. So pay attention to see if he's in the lineup on Tuesday. Roman Anthony remained shut down from swinging a bat. He was originally placed in the aisle with a right wrist sprain before it was later reclassified as a sprain ligament on the base of his right ring finger and it has just been an ongoing issue. Pretty much all season there for Roman Anthony. Colt Emerson was scratched from the lineup due to back tightness. We'll see when he can return. Ryan Hellsley threw batting practice against live hitters on Monday. If he bounces back fine, his next step could be a rehab assignment. Matthew Boyd has completed his rehab assignment and is expected to start this weekend in San Francisco. Looks like Boyd will take James and Tyrone spot in the rotation. Tyrone is going on the aisle with a hamstring strain. Matthew Boyd still 80% roster. So most people held onto him. Would you guys use Matthew Boyd his first time out here in San Francisco this weekend? Well, that's a good matchup. But he's been out a while and he was for the time he's been healthy this year. The results haven't been great. I still think I still think in the long run, he's going to be a good option for you, but I'd be a little hesitant to use him this first start back and have to be a deep league. Chris Chris. Chris Babich will begin a rehab assignment at AAA on Tuesday. He's been out since May 14th due to left elbow, soreness and general arm fatigue. People have also held onto Babich. He's still 84% rostered. Emilio Pagan will be reassessed on Monday. I guess that has already happened at this point. If everything checks out okay, he could begin throwing off a mound later this week. He is on the aisle with that nasty hamstring strain. Alejandro Kirk could return as soon as Friday. He's been out since April 4th with a fractured thumb. JP Crawford was placed in the aisle with a right hand contusion. Ryan Bliss was recalled. Samuel Basayo was out of the line up Monday at the same time as Adley Ruchman, which is curious. Basayo dealt with abdominal discomfort this weekend, but then he returned and he played on Sunday. So hopefully he didn't tweak that injury, left a way and learned more there on Samuel Basayo. After we recorded yesterday, I did see a bunch of people both in the comments. Before that, talking about Basayo was clearly playing in discomfort on Sunday, like every time he swung. Not surprised he was out of the line up. All right, Chandler Simpson has missed three straight with a sore left thumb. Dalton Varsho has missed three straight with left wrist inflammation. Miguel Andoja was out of the line up after tweaking his hamstring on Sunday. Joe Musgrove started playing catch in late May. We really have not heard much at all. All we know is that he experienced inflammation in his surgically repaired elbow during spring training. And he's mostly been shut down since then. So if we hear more, let you know Joe Musgrove, the A's reinstated Max Muncie from the I.L. Earlier this season, he hit 239, two homers, two steals, a 710 OPS. His 24% roster has second and third base eligibility. Do you guys have any interest in Max Muncie of the A's? Very little 15 team roto or deeper. Bongerson was placed in the I.L. with a left oblique strain at tray boom boom. Man, Cini is back. That's right. He got his contract selected by the angels. He has not played in the big leagues since 2023. And he actually had three hits here on Monday. So man, shout out to tray man, Cini. It's been a long road back for him. Not sure how long it'll stick around, but obviously great story. Routin for the guy Nathan Church is expected to be activated on Tuesday, which explains why Victor Scott was optioned back to the minors. Chris Bassett was placed in the I.L. with lower back to comfort. Trey Gibson was called up to start on Monday. Spencer Miles is moving out of the Blue Jays rotation with Dylan Seas and Max Sheridan returning from the I.L. And a name to watch. Guardians prospect Cooper Ingle played two games and left field over the weekend. He's mostly been a catcher and a D.H. in the minors, but he has hit really well this year. 40 games at Trepley. He was betting 300. I guess still is betting 300 nine homers in OPS over a thousand. Same number of walks as strikeouts, 5% rostered. And it sounds like if he plays a couple more games in the outfield, Guardians could be prepping and call him up. And it would be interesting for fantasy because he would be catcher eligible while playing the outfield. So I think it's just a name that we need to have on our radar Cooper Ingle. You guys have any quick thoughts on him. I mean, they could use help in that field. They could use help in center field. They could use help at catcher, frankly, five, five, the Mope Yes. They are the Guardians are the most, the organization most dedicated to having a max, to maxing out defense behind the plate. They will always sacrifice offense at that position for the best defender possible. And that is gone on throughout. I think this, I mean, how long has that frontoff has been there? It's been a long time now, I guess, but throughout throughout their, their, their reign. And it continues here with Cooper Ingle. I mean, it's hard to, it's hard to measure up to, um, or not I'm forgetting the guy's name, the guy they got from the Giants. It's hard to measure up to him defensively. Patrick Bailey. Yeah. I mean, Patrick Bailey just threw out two more bass runners here on Monday through, throughout Jazz and Cody Belinger in that game that I was watching. So, uh, it's deep and still remains awesome. The offense, not so much. I do like Cooper Ingle. To be decent. That's what you asked. And because he's catcher eligible because he's, you know, if he gets enough playing time, he is an on-base freak. And he has really been maxed like that. He's one of those headers who the exit velocities are more fine than good, um, but he's maxed out the power of Triple A this year. And I'm curious to see if it translates to the majors. Uh-huh. Also, before I move on, I just kind of note, because we're all still watching this A's game, worse camera angle and baseball. Oh, it's bad. It's like way skewed off to the left. So every pitch looks identical. It's really bad. Yeah. It's like basically from the shortstop perspective. I do not like that at all. That was the first thing I noticed earlier in the day. Five confusing pictures. What do we make of these names? Emerson Hancock. They're confusing to me. Maybe they're not confusing to you guys. Emerson Hancock. He was solid at the Orioles five innings, one run, three strikeouts to two walks. He had 11 whiffs on 92 pitches. I call him confusing because he entered this start with a 416 XERA. He has a 274. He has a 284. The whiffs on the sweeper have started to go away over his last few starts. And they have noticed four strikeouts are fewer and four of his last six starts. So I might just be nitpicking. Obviously he's had a breakout season here, but where are you guys at on Emerson Hancock? Would you?
be trying to sell hyre now. - Yeah. - I would. - Yeah, I mean, it would depend on what I got in return. I have them 50/3rd in my starting picture rankings, rest of season, so that's obviously much roster. It's short of must start and it leaves room for him to regress from what he's doing now. So I think he's overachieving. You know, you're playing with house money with him. So like if he does collapse here, you don't lose much. I mean, obviously, lose Emerson Hancock, but you weren't counting on him in the first place. So if you can get something more secure for him that's starting picture especially, I think that's fine. - Yeah, I think either like a boring, but more projectible veteran like a San Diego Contra perhaps or a shoot for upside type like a Spencer Strider or Nikola Dolo or maybe McCowell. - Kyle Braddish. Yeah, I think those all make sense. And I hesitate just because the last time I was like, oh, it's starting to kind of run out for Emerson Hancock. He went out and had that 14 strikeout game in his first start of May. But since then, it's been four, six, four, three, seven and three strikeouts. If you take out that one start, it's like 34 strikeouts and 46 innings, I think. That's pretty bad. And that's basically what he had been before this, the XER entering this start and that stretch was 485. Fit was 423. So I think he's likely a four plus ERA guy moving forward. Now that I had a chance to think about it more with you talking, I think you could sell pretty high with him. Like a combination sell high by low scenario for an upside guy. Like some of the ones we mentioned just a second ago, Carlos Rodan and I think Treyis Average is another possible target there because he hasn't really taken off yet. - Maybe Garrett Cole. - Nathan of Baldi, I don't hate that. Maybe try for one of the injured guys like Hunter Brown or Terrick Scoobal, I don't think that's gonna happen, but maybe Hunter Brown or Gerk Rache. I know Gerk Rache. - Max free. - Time table got pushed back, but yeah, I think you should be shooting for upside if you're trying to move him and I think you could do it. Yeah. - All right, let's move on to Connolly Early, who struggled with control at the race. Four and two thirds innings, two runs, four walks, six strikeouts, did have 14 whiffs on 96 pitches. He's just been confusing for me because maybe I just, my expectations were too high coming into the season based on what he did in a small sample last year, but his swinging strike rate this year is down from 16% to 9.4%. His walks have been up. His previous five starts before this all looked very good, so it looked like he was getting on track and maybe it's just another bump in the road here, but I don't know, maybe my expectations were just too high. Where are you guys at now at this point in the season on Connolly Early? - I think he's good. I don't think he's great. So I think if we thought he might have top 25 upside, I'm not really there anymore. I think the stuff is good. I think it's weirdly the command is the issue for Connolly Early. The command just hasn't been as good as we thought it would be. And I think we kind of ignored it too, because if you look at his minorly number, he did have some high walk rates in the minor. - No, he was like a 10% walk rate guy for much of his minorly career, 90 to 10%. Last year it was 5% in what six games he started, four games he started, and then this year it's back closer to nine. So that just might be more like who he is and we might have just thought he leveled up last year when he didn't. - I'll add that even during that stretch of, I guess it was four starts where he was really good. The final four starts of May, 'cause the first start of June, now the second start of June weren't so good. So the final four starts of May where Connolly Early had a 170, 80, all right. That was with 393.5. And less than a 10% swinging strike rate, which I mean, this swinging strike rate was one of the most exciting parts, both in the majors and in the minors. It was ridiculous for a pitcher who wasn't supposed to have lights out stuff. And so I honestly, I think Connolly Early is in a similar place to Emerson Hancock for me. I don't think you could get as much for him on the trademark yet, but in terms of my expectations going forward, I think he's, I think he's more like a, like a fifth starter in a 12 team league. - Let's talk about Will Warren, who lacked efficiency here at the Guardians. Four and a third innings, three runs, two of those earned five strikeouts at two walks, only five whips on 91 pitches. The Guardians do not swing and miss very much at all. I've been baffled by Will Warren all season, but his K-to-walk stuff has been amazing. He's managed to generate strikeouts without getting lots of whips. I think he's a weird pitcher. He also ranks top 10 in both stuff plus and pitching plus this season. So there are underlying metrics that really, really like Will Warren. Are you guys as confused with him as I am? - I'm very confused by Will Warren because he's been a very good strikeout pitcher this season, you know, taking a step up 26% so far. And then you look under the hood and nothing about it looks like he should be missing a lot of bats. He gets stopped lately too. I've last five starts, 7.3 K per nine. - But like 84% zone contact rate? Well, that's above average. Chase rate, 27%. That's below average. Chase contact rate, right at average. Nick Hertz just hit an absolute bomb. - Oh, I won't stop this game. - Yeah, as we're recording, 14, 13 brewers bottom the tenth, two outs. So yeah, but back to Will Warren, it just. - Greg Maddox came from Las Vegas. - Bryce Harper came from Las Vegas. - Yeah, but I mean Greg Maddox's generational pitching talent somehow came out of, was a Las Vegas product. - Because he had to learn how to pitch in this environment. - Yeah, exactly. Maybe that's what everybody should do. Just move all your minor league operations to Colorado. And force your pitchers to learn. - I don't think so. I think that's the opposite of what should be done. - Yeah, Will Warren, I don't quite understand. I haven't understood all season how he's been so good. It all looks like the strike out rate should just be kind of average instead of really good. And obviously we don't have a really long track record of him pitching at a super high level. He's. This is age 27 season. He hasn't turned 27 yet. But I think maybe he just had a couple of really good months and is starting to regress a little. It's not to say he's going to be useless. I would continue to. I think prefer him over Ramish and Hancock, but I think it's a kind of similar situation. - Yeah, I've brought this up in the past with Will Warren. He gets a lot of strikeouts. He doesn't get whiffs. He has ranked top three in the past two years among qualified starters in called strike percentage. So he gets a lot of called third strikes. That's how he's able to get a lot of these strikeouts. But he still is a weird pitcher. Would you guys consider him a sell high if you're good? - I would. I think so, yeah. - Yeah. I have. I probably have the least faith in Hancock. The three we've talked about here going forward. - Interesting. - All right. Well, next up, I have the most confusing pitcher of all time. I mean, he's just confusing every single year. Sometimes he's good. He's been pitching better as of late. It's Andrew at a quality start at the Padre. Six plus innings, three runs, six strikeouts. Did have 12 whiffs on 101 pitches. Good sign here. Eight of his 12 whiffs on the fastball. The whiff rate on his fastball has been down a lot so far this season. So that was a good sign for him. He actually was at one earned run over six innings. Ninety-three pitches. They brought him back out for the seventh. And he immediately gave up back-to-back doubles. And so both of those guys scored. And that's how he got to the three earned runs. Last eight starts. Two 74 ERA, 117 Whip. He's one of these pitchers that just constantly defies pitching metrics and ERA estimators and things like that. So I pretty much just expected him to keep doing that. But the Keta Walk is even worse this year than it has been in previous years. So yeah. I mean, you pretty much said the whole thing there. We've always been slow to embrace Andrew Abbott. And we've gotten burned by it every time. And so no, no one. Jonah Hime. Oh, Jonah Hime. The third night or eight, 95 mile per hour. Three hundred six loss. Blood Homer just tied the game. 14 to 14 in the 10th inning. You got to rethink this rules. I got to rethink this last big. Sorry Scott. Continue. Hey, Drabbit. I mean, so yeah, so I don't really want to bet against him again. The hardest part this time is, well, I mean, at least the K-rate has been decent in past years. It hasn't been good during this stretch where he seemingly turned things around. And the Walk rate's been even worse too, as you've said. So it's because he's defying convention even more than usual. And I'm not just talking about full season numbers. I'm talking about during this great run he's been on.
And so my normal analytical tendencies would say it's all going to blow up. And maybe I should lean into those because Andrew Abbott doesn't even look like past Andrew Abbott. And yet I just want to say he's probably going to be fine because that's how it's gone with him what the previous three years. Or is it two years? Is it three years or is fourth year? I think it's four year overall but his third year finding. And you well know, every year he's been unusually successful. Yeah. Yeah, this is his fourth year. Yep. So again, that is Andrew Abbott. I don't think you can really get much for him. He has been picked up in recent weeks. He's up to 83% roster. I think you use him in the right matchups and you know, he's someone that you know, he's mostly a streamer type that you just keep on your bench. I did want to shout out listener Matt who emailed the show two hours ago and said, heard you all wondering why Andrew Abbott has improved a few weeks ago when the Reds played the Guardians, Cleveland announcer Tom Hamilton said the Reds had worked with Abbott on his posture and release point. So it does appear there is a mechanical reason for his improvement. And Andrew Abbott is one of the weirdest pitchers in baseball for all the reasons Scott talked about earlier. He just guys can't barrel him up when he's at his best. And it's because he's got this like crossfire delivery from the left side. He comes from a really high arm angle. He just, he's got a weird approach. And so, yeah, it could just be, there's a very slim margin for error for a guy who doesn't miss a lot of bats. But when he's on, he's generally pretty helpful. So I think it's, it's okay to, to use Andrew Abbott moving forward. And the last name here on this list is Spencer Eragedi who got it his way through a quality start at the angels six innings three runs, four hits, four walks, seven strikeouts had 12 whips on 95 pitches. And look, the walk rate has been very high all season. He's managed to maintain, no, they didn't. Oh no. The camera angle got everybody. I thought Bren Ruggers just hit a walkoff on what he did not. Mr Eragedi has a 221 ERA that also comes with a 480 time X-Fip and entering the starting 496 X-ERA. So is this just the clearest so high of all time or is Eragedi someone that's just kind of effectively wild and he could defy the underlying numbers? I think Eragedi's extremely fake. It would be different if he was, if he was striking out itters at a, even a good rate, but it's a very average rate and then the walks are inflated. You set all the ERA estimators are terrible. And I think a lot of it comes down to, he's had good at home run luck. Only three home runs allowed in his 10 starts. Now he does give up weak contact. That's his clearest strength. But even so, three home runs and 10 starts for a fly ball pitcher just doesn't pass the smell test and I would agree with your overall sentiment there that Eragedi's a clear sell high. All right, so among those five confusing pitchers, quite a few sell highs, shop them around and see what you could do with those names. Let's take our final break when we return. Have a few waiver wire names to talk about from Monday's action. We'll play some fantasy feud. We'll do that right after this. Specifically your groceries with Instacart. Shoppers can see your preferences up front helping guide their choices. Instacart. Welcome back fantasy baseball today. Quick look at the waiver wire hitters from Monday's action and Jung who Lee we spoke about him yesterday won't spend too much time. I think in three outfielder points leagues, if you've suffered an injury or just some underperformance, the guy is just red hot right now 11 games since returning. He's 27 for 46 hitting 587 during that span four doubles 12 runs two steals mostly empty batting average but man he has that batting average all the way up to 3 30 again that is Jung who Lee anything here with these names Dom can zone he's been hitting well just not playing enough plays Alexander another one. He's been hitting well just not playing enough. Some signs of life here from Adolis Garcia over his last seven games he has three homers in a steal and Paul Goltzmit we spoke about him recently he's been getting a lot of playing time and he homework off of a variety Gavin Williams here on Monday night. He has three home runs in his past nine games and he has started 16 straight so anything to add any interest with Goltzmit Adolis Garcia blaze Alexander Dom can zone. I think Paul Goltzmit might be the most under rostered player in fantasy right now because I don't see why the playing time would end and he looks good. I was putting together an all over rostered team and my representative at first base is Vinnie Pasquantino who's 92% rostered in CBS leagues. I don't know that I want to drop Pasquantino for Goltzmit at this point despite the 60% point gap in their roster ship. Yeah, I don't think I'd be able to but I'll admit I play scared when it comes to that kind of stuff and if you're more willing to pull the trigger on that stuff, I there's no beyond the names of the people involved. There's no reason to prefer Pasquantino to Paul Goltzmit right now. It's just betting on the recent track record. Yeah, the more you see your Vinnie P 30 home runs, but is he healthy and early hasn't looked like all season. And the bat speed has been down for Vinnie Pasquantino since the start of the season. The quality of contact is much worse. Like every indicator for Vinnie Pasquantino is significantly worse. He's hitting a ton more in field pop ups. He is just everything you could possibly want a hitter to not do. Pasquantino is doing. And Goltzmit, everything looks pretty legit. I think he's going to be an everyday player at least until standins back and then they'll have to make some tough decisions about whether stand and play the outfield. But that's the thing. What one stands back? I don't know how close that is, but I would imagine standing as close to an everyday player once he's back. They also have Ben Rice. They have Goltzmit. So that's why they've been able to play Goltzmit. But yeah, one stands back that does kind of throw a wrench. I'm not sure. Stan's better than Goltzmit. And I don't think it's him in any way. Him returning. So it's just never shown any inclination to play Goltzmit over Stan. Stan, when he's healthy plays, you know, right? Unless they want to do the Ben Rice thing at catcher, but they haven't really wanted to know. I don't think that's likely. I think that all season. I mean, Goltzmit hasn't been producing like he is now. So it obviously changes the calculus. And getting back to the past Quantino point, like that's obviously only shallow leagues where past Quantino is going to be the low guy on your roster to make that move. You know, and the sort of leagues where dropping past Quantino would be verboten, you know, you have somebody like Spencer Torkelson or Jake Berker that you can drop instead for Goltzmit. But I'm just saying, I think if you've been clinging to past Quantino in a shallow league and you're tired again, nothing from that position. Goltzmit presents an upgrade at least for right now. In the deepest of leagues, and now only Samad Taylor, big game here for the Padres, two for four with three RBI. He has started too straight. Ramon Lloriano done for the season. So I think Samad Taylor is going to get some playing time here and he was hitting pretty well in the minor. So zero percent roster and only for now, but maybe could work his way into some deeper mix leagues. Only two waiver wire pitchers. I don't think either matter yet, but I guess they could at some point. Grace and Rodriguez, he was okay at the Astros five in at home against the Astros. Excuse me. Five and a third, three runs to earn six strikeouts to two walks. He'll give up ten hard hits in this game and Ian Seymour. He looked great as the opener for the raise, but more than an opener, it kind of just looked like they're stretching him out to be a starter. He threw four innings, one hit, one run, five strikeouts, nine whiffs on 55 pitches. And he was really good as a starter last year. Five starts, three 16 ERA 105 whip, 10.9 Kper-9. I love the Ian Seymour all off season. And then I was pretty bummed that he wasn't in the rotation to start the year. If he's back in, I'm back in, on Ian Seymour. It's definitely an interesting pitcher, the sort who dominated throughout his minor league career, but never got much attention as a prospect because he didn't have the, he didn't rate out and pure conventional attributes like the big velocity and everything. He didn't have all of that, but he just missed a lot of bats and has continued to in the majors. And I think could surprise a lot of people if it gets this opportunity. All right. Yeah, it's again, that's Ian Seymour. He is a spark as well. So if you play in a point league and you want to kind of, this is one of those beat the waiver wire names here with Ian Seymour where, you know, over the next couple of weeks, if he continues to pitch well, he could just, you know, be one of those top fat pickups a couple of weeks from now. So just named to pay attention to theirs, Ian Seymour, let's.
Play the feud. (upbeat music) For those who haven't been here before, this is like family feud, but it's fantasy feud. I will, I have three questions. I'll throw out a question. These guys will buzz in, I guess, using their names. And they will play the feud and we'll battle it out. Are you guys ready? Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it. Let's kill it. Do it. All right, first up. Seven players with more than 15 steals this season. Chris, go. Nassim Nunez. He is tied for the number one answer at 23 steals. I guess you get to choose Pass or Play. Okay, so if I pal, let me just make sure, if I pass, Scott has to name them all, they get three strikes. He has to name all of them or until he gets three wrong. And then if he gets three wrong, I just have to name one. You just have to name one, correct. Pass. Scott, you're up. Seven will now six players with more than 15 steals this season. All righty, let's go with Jacob Marcy. Jacob Marcy has 16. He is tied for the bottom of this list. Let's go with, I think Chandler Simpson's there. Chandler Simpson. Ehh. He's running a ton, but he's been caught like seven times. He has been caught a lot. Yeah. Chandler Simpson has 14 steals, eight caught stealing. Yeah, what off? One off. A two. Oh, more than 15, not 15. More than 15, yep. Okay. Let's go with. Let's go. Let's go with. Man, why can't I do this? Let's go with Randy Roserina. Randy Roserina is correct. He has 18 steals this year. Having a good year. Good for that guy. Contract year Randy. Yeah, okay. Next up. So far we have Naseem Nunez. Randy Roserina Jacob Marcy won strike on Scott. Four names left. One. Two. Three. Four. Four names left. Now only three names left. Oh, no, Cruz is correct. 21 steals this season. All right. I know two of the next three. Oh, boy. Mm, mm, mm, mm. That just adds the pressure. I was actually on. I was looking at this. Get those tabs closed, Chris. Get those tabs closed. I just have a list of team names. That's all I'm looking at. I'll share my screen. Okay. Man, I had an answer and now it's, it disappeared on me. Let's go. And don't look at the chat either. I'm sure they're trying to help you guys. Yeah, I'm not looking at the chat. Jacobi, or Jacobi Elspir. Oh, what? Not Jacobi Elspir. Are you the guy I'm thinking of is Jaron Durant. Jaron Durant is incorrect. Errr. Your second strike. Okay. All right. You're gonna need an answer, you're just gonna be. I'm gonna feel stupid if this guy, I don't think he's gotten there, but I'm gonna feel stupid if he ends up being, and so I'm gonna say Ellie Dela Cruz. Ellie Dela Cruz is incorrect. Your third strike. Chris, for the stooool. I'm trying to think of what the third, because I definitely have. There are two really obvious names, Scott. Top five picks. Yeah. We're gonna with Bobby with Junior. Bobby with Junior. For the steal. It's correct. T is tied for the legally 23. How's it? It's tied for third, I believe. They're all tied for first. And the same name is J-RAM and Bobby with all have 23 steals. And then, there's your Tati's, there's Tati's, the other one. Oh, no. Okay. Um. Corby Carroll. The answer we're looking for is jazz chism. Oh, okay. 16 steals. He hasn't done much else, but he does have 16 steals. Yeah. I did just want to highlight Jacob Marcy for a second here, because he has 16 steals this year. We haven't really talked about him much at all. He's hitting 201 with a 635 OPS. Does have 36 runs score. Does have 16 steals. Basically, he has played every game all season until recently, starting to lose playing time against lefties. 71% roster. Should that number be that high for Jacob Marcy? I just still be roster in Roto and not in points. So, yeah, I agree. That sounds too high. And you know, it's really just the stolen base is sustaining him, and I don't have much faith in that changing. So, if they were to slow down, I don't see a lot of future value in Jacob Marcy, which I had him as a bust coming into the year. All right. Entering Monday, we had nine qualified starting pitchers with a swinging strike rate over 13.5%. Nine qualified. I'm going to go with Chris sale. Chris sale is correct. He is on the list. He is the 246 number seven answer on the board. Chris, you have a chance to beat down. Oh, yes. You gave the number one answer last time, so I didn't have a chance. Qualifying pitcher. Qualified starting pitchers with a swinging strike rate over 13.5%. That's not over complicated. Chris for Sanchez. Chris for Sanchez is correct. He's the number four answer on the board. 15.3%. Chris, would you like to pass a play? You know I'm going to pass. All right. Scott, you are back up. So there are seven qualified pitchers left with a swinging strike rate over 13.5%. It's really unfair that Scott has to do this and then later in the week, you're probably going to do sky doesn't know. It's just it's a real, I don't appreciate the humiliation ritual for Scott. I am glad it's not me. You're the one who's doing it. I used to be good at this game. You have you memorized this leader board too, Chris? No, no. I just happened to be looking at the stolen base leader board like yesterday. All I would like to do is swing strike rate. I'll just say, just don't overthink it. Yeah, I mean. Yeah, okay. I know his has always been on the lower side, but I'm going to say Paul Schienz. Paul Schienz is not over 13.5%. He said don't overthink it. Exactly, don't overshirk. You shirk. When you hear the names on the list, you're going to be like, oh yeah. Well, yeah, this is why I cite the number all the time because it's like who's who of Aces. This is your number. Yoshi Nobu, Yamamoto. Paul Schienz is at 12% this season. Yamamoto is incorrect. Oh, I love a Pete Frank. Second shirk. You're a jerk. Just going through my starting pitcher, Ranker. The Frank is mentally here. Yamamoto 12.8% swinging strike rate. This is right there. Roundup. Jacob DeGrom. Take it to Grombscot. The number one answer on the board, 17.1% swing strike. Still. Yeah. S. So the number one, Sanchez. Number one, the number four, and the number seven answers are gone. DeGrom, Sanchez, and Chris. I'm not sure if this guy's qualified so I don't want to say him. Let's go with Braxton Ashcraft. Braxton Ashcraft is incorrect. Dang it. It's close. I know he's close. Braxton Ashcraft, I will look it up real quick. He is at 13.3%. Well, that was the cup, wasn't it? No, over 13 and a half. I thought it was 13. That's not going to. You wouldn't have been like, oh, Braxton Ashcraft's up off 13 but below 13.5. All right, like that's. Yeah, I just, I try to find a group that's not too much, but usually between 16 and 10. I get it. Oh, yeah, just Chris for the start of the 13. Jacob, is your asking? Yeah, I said don't overthink it. The number two answer on the board. You are correct. 16.6%. The other answer is Chase Burns, 15.4. Nathan of all the at 15. Show team in Aga. Show team in Aga, 14.4. Gavin Williams, 13.9. Jose Soriano, 13.6%. I did just want to highlight Nathan of all the E-Rogue quick here as part of this group. The ERA up from 173 to 410 this season. A big reason is the home run rate. The home runs have just jumped up tremendously here for a Valdi and I can't really figure out why. It's not like he's giving up much harder contacts or higher barrel rate or pulled air rate. I, I just one of those things. I just kind of, I feel like Nathan of all these going to be much better moving forward. Yep. No, that's a, that's another one if you wanted to trade Emerson Hancock or whoever we were talking about. I mentioned this. Yeah, I think of all these a good one. I also just want to highlight Gavin Williams had a weird start today. Yeah, yeah
- Lossity was way up, but-- - I haven't been to leftovers, but yeah, talk about it. - He only missed eight bats on 90 pitches. - It was back to that start. - It pretty hard. - It starts against the same team. Sometimes that could be weird, but yeah. - Yeah, that was just, oh, I noticed the velocity was way, way up. - Right. - We are running out of time, so we're not gonna do the third question. But I will just mention that it was eight qualified hitters with a batting average over 310 this season. And just wanted to give a shout out to Josh Young, who is still hitting 313 at this point in the season. He's been really good at eight homers, 855 OPS. He has managed to keep that strikeout rate down. Lots of line drives. The expected batting average looks awesome for Josh Young. And Troy Johnson, someone we really haven't talked about. He's hitting 314. Doesn't really come with much else. It's like two homers and four steals, but it's a lot of line drives. He has started 18 straight, and he's 28% roster. Do you guys think that number is too low for Troy Johnson? First in outfield eligible, and he's hitting 314 this season. - I guess that's too low, 'cause there are lots of roto leagues where he would be available. And I'll take a guy who makes a lot of contact at course field and is putting up a good batting average right now. I don't think he's a true talent 314 hitter, but a guy to use when they're at home, presumably at some point they will have a week where they play all their games at home. They have not yet. So yeah, I think Troy Johnson is under roster at 31% or whatever he said. Yeah. 28% there for Troy Johnson, but that'll do for fantasy feud. Congrats again, Chris. Scott, we'll have to wait for the next short slate, and then you will try to get your revenge once again. - Yeah. I gotta look when there's a short slate and study leader boards, I guess. I mean, I should have gotten Mizurowski this. It's, you know, you overthink it. - Chris, did you have an answer? - Well, besides Mizurowski or was that-- - I just forgot about him. It's not like I thought of Mizurowski and was like, no, he couldn't have a 13. I just didn't even think of them. - Mizurowski was the only one I had locked and loaded, but I could have gotten to chase Burns if I needed to. - See, what's funny is the guy I said, I'm not sure he qualifies, and apparently he did it was Kyle Harrison. And so I didn't want to say him 'cause I didn't think he qualified, but he did have 13% when he was thinking was Tony, but I know he doesn't qualify. - But when I thought of Kyle Harrison, I was like, well, who else is on the brewers pitching staff? And for some reason I thought of Brandon Woodruff and I just moved on after that, 'cause I knew it was a new one as a Brandon Woodruff. I didn't even think of Mizurowski. It's just dumb. - All right, let's wrap up here with some leftovers on the hitting side. Josh Neller picking things up lately. He went two for four with a grand slam over his last 12 games. He's hitting three 12 with two homers, lots of ground balls, and power has been down so far this year, hoping that the power catches up 12 steals. Obviously that's awesome there for Josh Neller. Yandee Diaz continued his massive season. One for three with his 12th homer. He has four homeruns in his past 10 games. Ernie Clemente just continues to crush it. Two for four with his seventh homerun. Last 29 games, he's hitting 355 with six homers and a 950 OPS. CJ Abrams will not stop hitting two for four with two RBI and his tenth steal and Zach Netto has picked things up. He hit a homerun. He has homered in three straight. And he is hitting very well since May 22nd. I was going to grab the numbers, but did not have enough time. Anything to add here on Netto Abrams? Clemente Yandee Diaz and Josh Neller? Clemente, I keep looking to see if there's something going on here and there's not. I mean, look, he does what he does well. He makes a lot of contact. He's going to be a good source of banding, I think. But I'm talking about the power surge. We're seeing six homers in the last 29 games you said. Well, his ex-woven last 100 played appearances is 274. His average ex of velocity in the month of May was 84 miles per hour. In June, it's 86 miles per hour. So I don't really think there's anything there with Ernie Clemente. I think you still just view him as a batting average specialist, too, is running a little hot right now. I asked the one thing you could point to is just pull the air rates have always been solid, but it still has never resulted in more than 12 home runs in the season. So maybe he can perform a produce a little bit more than that this year. Maybe it's like 13, 14, 15, something like that. We're the really good batting average. Look, he's useful. He's got all these different position eligibility as I get that. But I don't think that you should expect Ernie Clemente to continue hitting for this much power. We do have one lonely pitching left over that was Gavin Williams, who we just spoke about five innings, four runs, three earned, five strikeouts, two homeers allowed. It's got anything else you wanted to add on Gavin Williams here, kind of a weird starting in C Yankees. Yeah, I mean, it was too straight. It was a second straight start against the Yankees. Both of them were three-year runs in about five innings. He had two home runs in each as well. Yeah, his best pitches this way, and the characteristics were a little off in this start. It would have threw it like two miles per hour harder, which took away three inches of drop. And so I would say he just didn't have a feel for his best pitch and was facing a lineup that had just seen him. Yeah. Even then, it wasn't a terrible start. It was just not great. Kind of a Yankees start. The call to the bullpen for the Mariners, Andres Munoz got the ninth inning with a three-run lead. He walked one, but struck out two for his tenth save. For the raise, Brian Baker picked up his 17th save. For the Phillies, Yoan DeRan picked up his 16th save. For the Yankees, David Bednar came on to get the final two outs of the ninth inning with the game tied. The Yankees took a two-run lead. In the tenth, Bednar closed it out. He picked up his second win of the season. For the Giants, Keaton Win came on in the ninth with a two-run lead. He was charged with three runs on three hits. He only recorded two outs. He took his first blow and saved second loss. Believe this was his third day or third game pitching in a row. Chris, you said you heard some things on the Giants post game regarding just the Giants bullpen here. Yeah. Sean Estes, I think, was the analyst for that. And he kind of led into Trello Vulo about that one because Keaton Win threw 41 pitches, I think in the previous two days. The Giants arrived at 4am from their road trip. And he basically was saying he probably shouldn't have not have been pitching in this game. And that seems like a good excuse because he did not have the feel for his splitter. Didn't record a two outs before losing the game. I don't really know if that means Keaton Win will be the closer moving forward or get the next save or whatever, but just extenuating circumstances in this situation seem worth pointing out. All right. For the Angels, Kirby Yates got the ninth inning with a one run lead. He allowed a run on a walk and a hit. He took his second blown save. Kirby Yates has picked up some whiffs, but overall he hasn't looked very sharp. Obviously he's an older pitcher at this point. Sam Bachman pitched the eighth inning of this game. And he has been much better. Would you guys, would you speculate in deeper, you know, category leagues on like Sam Bachman maybe taking over this Angels bullpen? I mean, they're also really bad. I mean, I did that like six weeks ago and it didn't happen. That doesn't mean it never will. I agree. It's their best reliever, but that's been obvious for a while now. For whatever reason, they don't want to confine Bachman to the ninth. I will point out he was going multiple innings more earlier in the year, April and early May. About the time I'm talking about taking a shot on him. He's more recently become a true short reliever. And so maybe maybe that'll change their thinking. Yeah, it looks like more of the same from last year for Yates who was still missing a lot of bats last year, but just wasn't good at basically anything else. So yeah, I don't think he's going to be the guy moving forward. On the other side for the Astros, Josh Hader pitched the ninth inning with the game tied. The Astros took a one run lead in a tenth. Brian Abrayu came on and picked up his fourth save of the season, but Josh Hader is back. He's look good. The velocity is look good. So he's very clearly the guy for the Astros. And then for the Nationals, Gus Varlin got the ninth inning with a one run lead. He allowed a hit in a walk, but he struck out two for his fifth save. Clayton Beater recorded four outs across the seventh and the eighth inning. He allowed two runs in this one. The Nationals do not have a closer and they never will ever again, unless you guys disagree. No, I think that's where I'm at on them. Yeah. To stream or not to stream on Tuesday, we have Trevor Rogers against the Mariners, Troy Melton against the twins, Zach Galen at the Marlins, Dustin May at the Metz, Stephen Coleg against the Rangers, Grant Holmes at the White Sox, Walbert, Arania against the Astros, Kai Wei Tang at the Angels, Andrew Alvarez at the Giants, and then JTKin and Robert Gasser in chorus field Vegas. Yeah, I'm passing on again in Gasser, even though I think they're somewhat useful, otherwise, I think it's a lot more than somewhat useful. But I'm going to sit them here. I think Dustin May is my favorite. I think Stephen Coleg is okay. I think Walbert, Arania is okay. And I think Troy Melton versus the twins is okay. I did start Trevor Rogers in multiple leagues as a two-start guy, but I'm not recommending that for your health. Yeah, I would agree. I think I put Dustin May at the top of this list, and then I would go. - Walbert, Arania, and then probably Troy Melton. But I think Colock and Grant Holmes could be okay too. So, I think five solid options here on Tuesday. And then on Wednesday, we have Ryan Nelson at the Barlin's Andre Palante at the Metz. Christian Scott against the Cardinals, Seth Lugo against the Rangers, Peter Lambert at the Angels and Reed Demmer's home against the Astros. - I think Nelson's a good pick in that situation. At Miami, Demmer's, you know, Astros aren't the best matchup, but I think he's good enough that he should farewell against them, Seth Lugo. I had among my sleeper pitchers this week. Why didn't I have Nelson among my sleeper pitchers? At Miami, seems like I should have done that. Yeah, I would say Nelson, Lugo Demmer's in that order and not all of them I like better than anybody on Tuesday. - Yeah, I think Wednesday's pretty good. I like Nelson, I like Demmer's. Lugo is okay, he's kind of taking a step back and they got some of their guys back. But even Palante and Scott against each other, I think both of those guys could be okay too. So, solid options there on Wednesday as well. Let's wrap up here with team name Tuesday. And these are from John on X and they are 90s movie themed slash Adam Sandler, Chris Farley edition. Stop looking at me, Juan. Yeah, fuck. I don't get the specific reference, but yeah. That's from Billy Madison. I believe you. Stop looking at me, Swan. All right. Fuck guy in a little coat. That's a classic. That Andrew Vaughan. All right. I don't know what that's referencing. I don't know what that one is either. I wipe my own bass. I have to make sure I get the B in there and accentuate that. New to E-Mex. It's supposed to read them off if we don't know what they're referencing, Frank. And we learn our lesson with that. Yeah, but we know it's got a new team magazine. Nothing wrong with Andrew Vaughan. Yeah. You eat pieces of Schmidt for breakfast. That's a very good one. That's a good one. This one from Ben, Esauk and a shoemaker. Oh, I love it. That's very good. I love it. Very, very good. Thematic. This one's from Brendan, cruising with the Kro-Dashians. Sure. Got a, got three different names in there right up Scotts, Ali. This one's from Leif and this one is for Scott. Even if you got in it a dozen times already. The writers have drawn. Why is that for Scott? I don't know. I don't know. We've talked about Lord of the Rings. I've, I've, I've seen more of the rings like. What is this even referring to? I have no idea. I saw each of the Lord of the Rings the movies like five times in theaters. I am a big nerd for the movies to be clear. Couldn't get through the books. I don't care what that says about me. I, I'm okay with it. Yeah, I tried so many times to start the game of Thrones books and I just couldn't get through there. It's too much. I am, I am frank when it comes to Lord of the Rings. I have, I have not seen any. Oh, oh. So this one is very clearly for Chris. Yeah. Yeah. The best. Oh my God. The best trilogy of all time. Wow, Scott. Have you, have you ever even seen a movie? (laughing) Yeah, that's all. Rip on Scott. Boom. Boom. I have. I thought I was above it back then. I don't know why when they came out. And every off season I mean to watch them 'cause it's such a time and they're so long. I will say, okay. But at the off season goes by and I don't watch it. The first time you watch it, don't watch the extended editions. You don't need to. The, oh yeah. The ads releases are perfect. Extended editions are always a bad idea. It's mostly, the extended editions are good but it adds like two hours total to the running time and doesn't really add enough to justify it. A lot of years. It's about being extended edition. Yes, it's gonna be like a nine, 10 hour journey. Yeah. It's so good though. Oh, sometimes from feeling down, I just put on Thaoden's speech at the battle of the Pelanor fields. Oh boy. I love that one. Somebody said Frank not even George R.R. Martin could get through the game of Thrones first. That's true. Keeps putting it off for a reason. Let's go. These are from Caws. This first one's a song. I fought Delauder and Delauder one. It's pretty good, yeah. Movies driving Missy Arausky. That's great. That's all I got. 50 Shades Freed. And a TV show, Sunny Grey's Anatomy. Yeah. Is that still going by the way? Oh yeah. Yeah, my wife recently watched the entire thing. I used to watch that with my mom back in high school and it's 26 seasons. Still going? Yeah. What is going on? These are from Patrick Ben doesn't watch his race. Yeah. A little bit Delauder now. Yeah, I don't want that. That's supposed to. What? I didn't realize you're supposed to watch your race. Is that is that it? I just I just store the rice in. Yeah, you get the starch off and it makes it better somehow. I don't know. I just learned to make rice. I googled it and it told me to do that. So I did it in the right amount of goods. So yeah, the problem with rice, I always want to mess with it. You can't mess with it. You just got to leave it. Just don't touch it. Yeah. And I just always need to mess with it. So a bad blood day to be a baseball. That's pretty good. And these are from Jamie, Clemente of a woman. I need to be written in parentheses. Who are you? You need Sibrausky. I don't know that one. Is that supposed to be like you know brow, you know, Sibrausky? Oh, okay, sure. Savannah, Bazanas. Yeah. The X-Liles. Yep. The Kurtz locker. Yep. And who Lee Schmidt? Yeah. There you go. They're on the same team, not bad. We started this game. We started this podcast. This game between the brewers and the athletics was in the ninth inning. It is still going and it is in the 12th inning. So whenever it happens from here on out, you're going to have to find out on your own. We are going to wrap there for Scott and Chris. I am Frank. Thanks as always for tuning into fantasy baseball today. Please make sure to follow and leave a five-star rating on Apple or Spotify. And we will be back again tomorrow. Bye-bye.
