The transcript blends sports commentary, lifestyle promotions, and personal storytelling. It highlights Colgate Total as a comprehensive solution for preventing oral health issues like cavities and gingivitis, drawing a parallel to a strong offensive line in football, emphasizing proactive care through toothpaste, mouthwash, and a special toothbrush. It also promotes Apple Card’s 2% daily cash back for purchases, useful during the end-of-year shopping season. A major focus is on the Philadelphia Eagles’ recent defensive resilience and offensive struggles, attributed to injuries, poor third-down execution, and lineup instability, while praising the Kansas City Chiefs’ improved performance due to coaching, key player acquisitions, and team chemistry. Personal moments such as Travis Kelsey’s birthday, a victory celebration, and a fan-driven Halloween costume contest add warmth and relatability. The show also features updates on player injuries, including the positive return timeline for Taekwon Thornton, and promotes fan engagement through events like the New Heights Tailgate and social media content. Additional segments cover football predictions, coaching strategies, and fan reactions, illustrating a dynamic mix of sports analysis and community interaction. The overall tone is energetic, humorous, and deeply rooted in team culture, fan passion, and proactive wellness.

other uh week 37 years old uh trap how's it feel um it feels nice because i had a lot of people reach out and say happy birthday and uh yeah it was a good day it was it was a fun day got some got some food out here in new york and uh went to one of my favorite spots teresi um hang with tay italian and uh and the best news that i got on my birthday was that we got a victory victory dubs well your birthday was i was about to say your birthday was the next day it was monday yeah but who's really that was my that was the happiness yeah that was the happiness i had around my birthday was that i i got the win going into the tournament and i was like i'm gonna win i'm gonna buy and we're four and oh let me ask you this does losing ruin your birthday losing ruins everyone's life yes that's the fucking worst thing to ever go down so it's like if i would have lost it would have ruined my birthday for sure well i'm not a big birthday guy so it's not like i would have yeah did you have cake or anything did i have cake no but teresi's got some good desserts what'd you go with uh they brought the entire arsenal it was pretty good got some good yogurt uh they got a good uh espresso uh uh like shaved espresso icing with ice cream and chocolate underneath it was weird it was it was it was nice though it was nice sounds delicious all right all right cool well um is there anything else you would like to uh expound on gift wise or anything no i would love to just keep it moving perfect all right well casey tailgate remember we're bringing the new heights tailgate to arrowhead on october 18th we're going to be in lot m from 11 to 3 if you're a caitlin clark fan our friends from nike will be there with some merch you're going to want to check out in person it might be those new cc ones at arrowhead lot m nike jason no travis some version of caitlin clark merch jake will be tweeting and also there um we've also got another tape time episode out with our friend ryan pagnetti for those of you that don't know ryan ryan was a uh analytics expert with the philadelphia eagles for a number of years and he went to jacksonville he was with the raiders most recently now he is a freelance just outstanding personality to follow on twitter if you want some very random but cool stats he's only out of the nfl for uh months and he's already gotten a rule changed in the nfl uh but he also joined us to sit down and explain them to me because i don't know shit about analytics other than what the percentages say i've always been curious about how they're calculated and what goes into them and what kind of different analytics they are how analytical does it get well if you want to check that out if you've ever been interested in that uh there's some great conversation in this tape time episode with ryan pagnetti uh trap new high tolerance how about it man did you see this bit of new news we're uh we're starting to get new heights halloween costume decorations rolling in oh my fucking gosh hey it's pretty cool hayler swift travis kelsey i want to know i wish there was like something next to these for reference as like how big they are why'd they have to make my wife cross-eyed that's all i'm asking it's a good point those eyes are a little crossed maybe it's about sneeze uh yeah she she does she does go cross-eyed well i think it's a reasonable like sometimes it just happens it's not like a thing what uh so this looks like it's like two hay bales what's a hay bale how big is a hay bale what i mean this is probably six foot this is enormous yeah these things are huge the question is do they then feed the hay like is this gonna end up being hay that's that's fed to cows or you can't do that after you paint it right well they make edible paint i'm sure well to any of you guys who have other uh halloween outfits that you're thinking about as always please send in your new heights themed costumes at new heights show with one s on social media and we will be picking out some of our favorites for the halloween episode my favorite i just recently saw it again i don't know if it was a halloween one but somebody dressed their baby is mom mama kelse it's iconic it is so good so good yeah it's so good shout out to that woman and that baby that did that all right well shout out to that woman that baby and haylor swift and travis kelsey uh that does it for new news brought to you by ikea and that takes us to our next topic travis take it away we're at bold topics bold topics is brought to you by pepsi oh i love a little wild cherry pepsi right now gosh that is a good that is a good drink yeah we got after the raiders baby well done trap 30 to 27 chiefs over the raiders chiefs are the last remaining unbeaten team in the afc their first 4-0 start since 2024 uh andy reed also is now the all-time winningest coach in allegiant stadium it's only been really a major shit on all the raiders coaches andy reed quote i didn't know that and i don't really care that is an angry quote andy andy also had another banger this week in the press conference which i really enjoyed we might get to that a little bit later um speaking of coaching quotes clint kubiak said going into halftime got to be better but you know what we're winning we're gonna win the game clint kubiak said that going into halftime i did not know that it's fired up man old ball coach were you guys aware that he said this uh mid-game no should i text you if i see the chiefs raiders we don't we don't need we don't need much motivation man it's chiefs raiders baby i'll tell you what though that team that team is definitely uh it's a different feel no clint's doing a great job it's also a guy like kirk cousins yeah and and and they actually have somebody that that's you know that feels like they're leading that team it has a handle on you know the direction that team's going in they got a good offense man and that defense is that stout obviously uh max crosby is fucking jumping around everywhere that guy is just so fucking hard to get his get your hands on him he's a beast and his motor is second to none um that's a good football team man and there's a lot of people that are going to be going to be going to the the reason why they're uh three and one but at the same time there's a reason why they went into that game three and oh um and uh i definitely expect them to to keep having uh putting together good games and and you know having a chance at a playoff here and uh at the end of the season you could just tell the the feeling of that team is a different feel than than previous raiders teams yeah they got some confidence man they're they're rolling and stout used to say this all the time execution fuels emotion when you're dominating you're playing well that's when you're feeling it and you're coming together as a team it's it's hard to do that when you're losing and you're not performing well and you know the raiders have been in this kind of lull for a very long time i know that they always find a way to get up for you guys because you guys are rivals but you know they've been looking for this and uh they got a good team this year you met you didn't mention one of their best players and i feel a little slighted because i think it was their best offseason move outside of kirk cousins uh which quarterback is always most important uh sonnebaum highest paid center in the nfl has really shored up that offensive line the pivot position is secured trav was he baltimore where was he yes he was in baltimore yeah that yeah that dude's a fucking beast i mean speaking of both of their interior linebackers you know nicobe dean uh i think it's quay walker walker number seven he's he's a fucking athlete back to a tall physical i mean they got they got they got they they went out and they got pieces that fit that mold on the on the defense and offensive side and um and they're they're gelling man uh we just uh we just you know we got canine we got canine and pat mahomes man and uh and it was fun to see canine go out there and uh and finish that ball game the way he did they had a lot of great offseason acquisitions and they had one very big offseason subtraction not end up going through which ended up being another offseason addition by keeping max crotton and i think it's going to be a lot of fun to see uh the best player in the house i forgot all about that is that crazy like these guys are rolling and they still got crosby do you think baltimore's looking at that like why didn't we probably not i mean i think they're happy that they went with their judgment but i mean max looks pretty good he looks pretty good doesn't look like anything's wrong with the knee right now you just mentioned kenneth walker let's talk about canine canine is the third running back all time travis to average 130 plus rushing yards per game on six plus yards per rush over a four and oh start period the only other two running backs that have done all of that this might be one of the biggest lebron sets we were crazy emmett smith did it in 95 over a four and oh start is crazy to just throw in there emmett smith did it in 1995 do you know what the other running back without looking is it old jimmy brown it is jim brown did it in 58 and 63 it's pretty remarkable to see how this entire chief's offense has been re kind of molded to fit one very influential piece like i it's and i give a lot of credit to andy reed i mean obviously eric b enemy is involved in this gotta gotta throw kochek in there a run game coordinator and this is why andy's so good this is why andy's so good andy has continually kept evolving with the nfl right and he had his way that he did things with brett farve when he was first with philadelphia mcnab to everything he's doing uh in kansas city now and or did do in kansas city and what he's doing now this year like it's it's been a pleasure to watch how much that they've really looked at themselves in the mirror this offseason and come out with something that the league is really struggling to stop and they built it around this guy man it's it's pretty awesome to watch it's even more credit to a guy like kenneth walker for understanding that you know we're going to give you this opportunity how are you going to handle that opportunity are you going to and he is the most professional guy in the building when it comes to you know taking care of his body making sure that he's up to you know pursuing that uh that challenge you know what i mean like he's absolutely he's just he's an awesome teammate to have man i could i can't say enough about who the guy is but at the same time man it's fucking fun playing with him out there on the field man he's he's not only you know i mean electric as a as a ball player man but he's just a great teammate man it looks like he's a great teammate man he's a great teammate man you can see all of your guys energy and even before you guys started games right you were telling me so much about this guy's mentality who he is as a teammate his attention to detail his focus and practice and then when i went up to training camp practice it's the same thing everybody else said there's something special about this kid man and he's not a kid i get he's on a second contract but it's refreshing to see a guy that's got all the talent in the world and also seems like he's got the right head on his shoulders and is a great person and teammate in the building when you got all those things going in alignment you guys got multiple of those guys you got that with kenneth got that with pat you got at least two or three of those with you so it's all like doing really well in kansas city uh yeah that was a joke it was supposed to be a joke i was waiting for you to laugh all right shout out to george carloftis uh 11 quarterback pressures god damn buddy was getting after the cue george was fired up man angry george man kirk cousins gonna be seeing euros and freaking lamb spits and all sorts of other greek shit in his dreams the raiders per pff time the most odysseus and the greek gods per pff time the most for any nfl player in a game this season who the fuck else had 11 quarterback pressures my god way to fucking get after it george shout out to dave tobe special teams coach old ball coach i was even in my head like what the fuck we did it that's when we do it i was like in my head like what run man run fake punt man god that takes some balls like you and especially on the re-kick you have to have unbelievable confidence that they're gonna do exactly what you saw on tape that was four to nine from like what the 30s so that's the thing that's the thing we're we're on our like 35 and it's fourth it's fourth and three we end up going uh whatever we're we're about to punt fourth and three we get a penalty and they bring it back to re-kick because matt had a great kick and our coverage was great on it so we kind of pinned them inside like i believe the 15 yeah so they're like oh let's give it another try and for coach toad to be like oh fourth and nine this is this is the last thing they're fucking thinking of right here you'll never expect it yeah that's amazing epic we got a couple other special teams ones yeah emin johnson down in it at the one uh there's a great fucking play to be able to you know throw it back to right at the end yeah that's impressive yep the question is was it was him jumping in the end zone or was it just him jumping in the end zone i don't know i don't know no yeah he definitely could have just stopped right why risk why risk slipping though you know what i mean good point shout out to emma johnson we got one more clip here from special teams coach dave tobes units and that is the kickoff fumble recovery trap oh fucking el jefe my god jeff basa the punch out man this little peanut and you know what i would be in a old angry bed during training camp when you're at training camp it's like the focus is for the for the offense that or for the defense is that everybody rallies to the ball and punches punches at it yeah and as an offensive player you got an offensive class band and yeah you got to like make sure and even even after the whistle is blown and the play is so-called dead players defensive players are still running up to you trying to punch the ball out and i don't know why it's very annoying especially when you're in your third day of pads or six day of pads in seven days or whatever there was and you're just getting fucking haymaker by linebackers and dbs uh down the field as you're trying to like finish the play so i was just being uh a prick one day it's like i better see motherfuckers throwing haymakers in the game or i'm fucking pissed i'm like i'm like i if i don't see at least two punch outs a game from all this shit i'm i'm like having to deal with during training camp i was just being such a prick and just sure enough to see it you know and one of the biggest moments of the season basa coming through with a fucking perfect punch man it was great so was it worth letting them uh do that i hope they do it for the rest of the practices and from here on out i just i that was absolutely electric if that's what we're doing in the game let's keep it going boys we'll see where your head's at next training camp if you come back yeah i'll probably be saying the exact same thing and then the next play fuck kenneth walker takes it to the crib man absolutely electric we uh have a little taekwon thornton injury update uh after extensive tests today taekwon thornton is expected back within 12 to 16 weeks sources say he'll have surgery within the week and there's a real chance at a late season or playoff return that's very positive news everybody fucking loves taekwon the guys the guy just shows up every single day you know with his his construction hat on ready to go to fucking work and ready to put in the fucking the the time and the effort that's needed to be you know to have the success that he's having and he's finally starting to you know we're four and oh he's playing unbelievable he's he's got all he's got pat mahomes trust you know he's got uh the coach's trust and then to have something like this happen on such a big play in the game um it sucks man it sucks and uh it did obviously positive news uh with with the ankle and in hopes that if we are in the playoffs and you know he's uh he's healthy enough he can get back out there but at the same time man you just hate to see it happen to such a good guy man we got a lot of fucking good teammates man and you got you guys are gonna hear me say how much i love these guys but uh taekwon is uh is definitely at the top of the list man everybody loves that dude yeah man i mean he's it's frustrating because he ended the year last year kind of on a high note even though the season didn't go well he was really clearly starting to build a lot of chemistry with patrick especially these down the field explosive plays uh had a lot of fun with him and he was really starting to build a lot of chemistry a great start to the season you hate to see a guy go down uh like this when he's really starting to come on and build that chemistry with the quarterback and the team it's one of those weird ones where it can be really severe if there's a full dislocation and like some things wrong with the joint but it can also be a straight break and if you're lucky it's nothing but the bone and you can make a comeback even though it looks so gruesome so incredibly positive news we hopefully we get to see taekwon thornton uh in some games that really are going to be mattering a lot to the kansas city chiefs there is a record that's not a record but is still cool speaking of cool travis passed tim brown to move into seventh on the all-time receptions leaderboard how about that trav can we name the top six receivers in nfl history for all-time receptions do you think we can do it 100 it's gonna be yeah we know jerry rice randy moss no no no no no yeah i always forget that randy terrell owens terrell owens would be another guest of mine larry fitz nice so we got larry fitz tony gonzalez jason whitten i thought you passed whitten you didn't pass whitten yet oh you passed him on yards not all-time receptions it's got to be somebody peyton played with right like a reggie wayne or harrison no that's a good shot that's a great pull jason that's a great pull number six who would be another oh our ohio state buckeye oh chris carter that's a hell of a list well done that's fucking stupid well done all right trav you're officially in your bye week you uh have already stated this you're up in new york are you doing anything fun uh for your bye week i'm just gonna be working out um i know we got the uh the guardians and white socks uh tomorrow in chicago i'll be tuned into that one um but uh outside of that i'll be watching football and baseball and enjoying october baseball and you know what college and the nfl have to have to offer on my bye week to be four and oh going into the bye was one of the things that we kind of the one of the challenges that we set for ourselves and uh you know obviously uh excited to be where we're at but um even more excited to see where this thing could go man we got a hell of a team that uh that's playing fucking well together and uh as you saw this past game man we're playing good on all three phases and uh that's what it takes to to get to to be a great team in this league man thank you to our sponsor allstate checking allstate first could save you hundreds on car insurance not checking if your hammock can hold two people before your eagles rams big guy oh sure why not it'll be so fun yeah it was it was a tough one man the last i saw uh it was i think five minutes left and you guys were up uh 20 to 10 in the fourth so um yeah frustrating frustrating day offensively right i think the defense was a heck of a bounce back game for them obviously they played um not up to their standard against chicago and still not a perfect game against the rams and ultimately at the end of the day they still found a way uh the rams offensively to move the ball when it mattered most but i mean listen if you're 20 to 10 the defense is held in the 10 to that point in the game like we got to find a way to win and the offense you know was just not there really most um you know oh for 12 on third down it was damn dude oh for 12 yeah man it was a tough man and you know listen we there's all the excuses there right like you know we're missing davante smith we're missing dallas got it we're missing saquon barkley take take bigsby uh our second bat goes down have uh in the middle of the game uh we're we're missing hollywood brown we're missing lane johnson we're missing landon dickerson compared to the the guys that were supposed to start the season off this was a very much A lot of backup players in the game. That's tough. They still had enough to get this done. This is really back-to-back weeks of some poor offensive football. Felt like they were starting to turn things around. Played pretty well against the Titans, especially at the quarterback position, but 0 for 12. And it's really like – it's everybody. It really – I mean, tons of pressure on the quarterback. The quarterback, you know, not getting the ball out. The guys, you know, penalties and, you know, not picking up blitzes. It's like, you know, a lot of times I think, you know, it's not as bad as you think, not as good as you think. It was about as bad as you think on third down. I mean, it was – Trying to play devil's advocate. Maybe when I turn this film on it won't be as bad as what I think it is. You want to credit the Rams? Because I think they had a great plan coming in. Like, they did a great job of mugging guys up. They ran games off of it, and that made it very difficult. They brought will-free safety, and the safety was far enough back there that they didn't see them rolling down to get it readjusted. And, you know, they're in seven-man protections. Like, you know in a seven-man protection, there really isn't a hot – like, you're expected to pick the blitz up, and the safety's back far enough, starts hitting it on the snap, and they just don't get to it. They did. They did a good job defensively. I want to give them credit. But offensively, it's just, you know, we got to do a better job passing the games off. We got to be doing a better job of being on the same page. Like, there's metal layers. There's guys physically getting beat. There's – it really was a, you know, a frustrating game to watch, especially for a team that I have so much higher expectations of, and I know those guys can be better. This list of injuries is – it's tough. When you're missing that many starters or having guys playing through that much, it's just – you know, that's the name of the game, man. If you're – if the healthier team is going to have the upper hand, especially when it's this many starters and really this many, like, I mean, Pro Bowl-caliber players not in the game, that's huge. And it wasn't all bad. Like, I know I'm making it sound worse because I think the thing is, like, it was bad when it mattered. Dude, it's so frustrating, man. Tank Bigsby was really good. You know, Darius Cooper. I mean, talk about a guy making the best of his situation. Fans have been asking him for more Darius Cooper because he just shows up in training camp all throughout. Ends up getting two touchdowns. Has an amazing catch in the end zone. Over top a corner on a ball that's a little underthrown. You take the third down. You take the fourth downs, right? Like, they end up going for it on fourth down twice. One of them, you know, they're up 10 points. They decide to go for a fourth and a little bit further in the yard. They get stuffed on Tush Push. That could have been devastating. Luckily, the defense – And then the fourth and two at the end of the game, which that one's being more criticized than analyzed. You know, I think that one analytically makes more sense than the first one. The one at midfield I don't think probably should have been done. But the one in the red zone, at least numbers-wise, I think makes sense. Now, if you factor in the fact that your offense hasn't been doing stuff, I understand why people are upset with that decision. But they had a chance if they get that first down and punch it in there, for the game to be over. And, you know, it just – they couldn't execute. Yeah, I'm hoping that the ball coach says we're going for it every time, if that's the situation. That's my thing. I don't care what the fuck everybody else is saying about, you know, them not getting it. I'm with you on that, Jeff. Yeah. When I think of the biggest moments in Eagles history, 2017, you know, the fucking Philly special, all these things are when, like, we're being aggressive. We're being aggressive in those moments. I think as a good – as a team, if you want to be good, you're going to have to seize the day and opportunities. And I know it didn't work out here, and everybody can bring up the circumstances and, like, you don't have this guy, you don't have that guy. You know, I like being aggressive in those situations, and I err on that, especially if the numbers back it up. But it's frustrating because they didn't get it, and then obviously they ended up losing the game. You know, I think the one caveat, they – I don't know if they probably still lose the game if they kick the field goal. They still ended up giving up two more touchdowns. So, you know, it's – I don't want to keep harping on it because I know those guys are damn sure frustrated. And one of the leaders in the building was asked about whether or not he's concerned week four in the league and where the birds are at right now. And Jordan Malata had this to say, not concerned, it's week four. I'm not concerned. I can't be. I can't be concerned. If I get concerned, that's where it starts from. It's like an infection. It starts from the top down. I just doubled down. Got to double down. Double down on what we do good and double down on what we do bad and correct it. And, I mean, the guy's an all-time pro because of this kind of mentality, man. You can't let doubt, concern seep in and take over like an infection around the building, man, because if you – if one person starts to doubt it, then the next person does it, and it starts with the leaders, man. If the leaders start to see or go astray from the path, man, it can get real ugly. And it's a good quote there from – From Jordan to make sure that everybody's on board and stays, you know, just coming to work with their lunch pail and finding the answers, man. They got to go to work, man. They got to go to work and figure out what are our answers to this stuff. How can we make Jalen feel comfortable from a protection standpoint? How can we make him feel comfortable that he can trust what he's seeing? And how can we make him comfortable to have the right answers to go to? That should be the main priority, in my opinion, this week. And it's going to be hard again because, you know, now – I know nobody's happy with the way Cam's played publicly. He's playing out of position, I feel, for the guy. He's a center that's been forced into a situation because of another injury. But, you know, he's in concussion protocol, so he might not be available. So now you're going to have three different guys, I think, that weren't starters at the beginning of the year for the offensive line. That's tough for any team to deal with. It's tough to just even rotate one on the offensive line in – you know what I mean? Like to – now you're dealing with multiple. It's tough, man, because there's so much – so much communication and camaraderie with the five guys that are in there because they're the ones getting the majority of the looks, the majority of – you know what I mean? The reps and practices together. So – and that's the battle in every single room. You know what I mean? Is trying to be able to find those pieces that can step in and, you know, not miss anything in terms of the success of the offense. But when you get to, you know, multiple guys having to step in, it just gets tough, man. It gets tough. Yeah. The biggest times where the Eagles' offense has struggled is when there's offensive line issues, right? 2012, Andy Reid ended up getting fired, a big part of this, because the offensive line, we lost Jason Peters, myself, and Todd Harriman, and Doug Peterson. Like his last year, the year before, we had like a record number of like offensive line combinations. Last year, a big reason the Eagles' offense struggled is because of the injuries to Cam and Landon and Lane missing time. So offensive lines, when you start – look at what – what's going on with Green Bay. They got like the highest pressure percentage in the NFL and they have all these guys in and out of the lineup. You just – the offensive line facilitates a lot of times the position for skilled players to feel comfortable and make plays. That's our job. We don't make any plays ourselves. But when that's not there, it can really, really overtake an offense. And, you know, I feel like Coach Koop is – the circumstances have been very difficult. They lost one of their best players, Landon Dickerson, early. You got a guy playing out of position, left guard, and Cam Juergens. Now Lane's down. Now Cam's going to be down again. You got Drew Kendall, maybe Willie Lampkin. If Cam can't come back for the week, it's just like – on top of that, running a new offense, it's a lot. Like Jordan said, man, you just got to double down, man. You got to, you know, circle the wagons, keep figuring it out, and keep showing that confidence in the building every single day, man. We had some fun reactions, though, from Eagles fans. Did you see the reactions? Did you see the reactions from some of the fans after? No, no, no. Please send the next clip. Coach doesn't kick a field goal. Bad coaching again. Look at this dude in the back. Sirianni blew the game again for the – on most times. We could have been up one point, up two points. Nick Sirianni. I'm sorry. Nick Sirianni got to go. Nick ain't it. Nick ain't it. Nick is cute. He's angry. He can scream, but he doesn't make the team come out of halftime and be the team. What's happening at halftime? Are we eating meatball subs? I think I was fucking hammered. Oh, damn it, man. I do want more drunk fans interviewed after games. This needs to be a real TV show. Are you kidding me? This needs to be a bit at every stadium. Just interview drunk fans. Oh, my gosh. God damn it. That's fucking hilarious. Speaking of London, the Eagles are headed to London to face the Jags this week, and I will also be on the call for this game, Travis. How fucking crazy is that, man? You're going to call your first Eagles game, man. It's pretty crazy. I mean, I was in the booth for an Eagles Atlanta game for a quarter with Troy Aikman and Joe Buck, and I think as a guest to the booth, I was maybe a little bit too happy with the Eagles. So Atlanta fans were maybe not happy with the bias. Yeah, it's going to be tough. It's going to be tough. Well, no, I want to assure Jags fans, I've seen a lot of Jags accounts already saying that they're not looking forward to this. I will be doing my utmost to give you guys the credit you deserve. deserve Jacksonville's playing as good as any team right now in the AFC I really do they are they are Trevor Lawrence is playing at the top of this game their defense is like the best rush defense of the NFL and nobody's really talking about these guys as much as they should be so as an unbiased reporter I will be giving you guys the respect and um you know the the the reporting that the job deserves right yeah Jason you have to get excited when big plays are made for the Jags it's just that you got to make you you got to make that decision I get excited for football I get excited for football that's the one thing about us is we are just ball lovers we we love to see you know great plays being made but um I can only imagine calling a game against with the Chiefs on there uh that's hilarious but the birds are gonna get some things figured out it's gonna be a great fucking game Jags Eagles in London with Jason Kelsey on the call uh can't fucking wait before we get out of the Eagles uh conversations here in the bowl top man we got a uh something that just broke the internet and Lane Johnson has officially retired listen I I do not I I don't want to comment on all anything because I just haven't talked to Lane I want to let him in his statement be what um is the announcement you know what I mean my thing with Lane is that I love Lane Lane is like a brother to me I'm not gonna pretend to know exactly what's going on or why uh the retirement is happening now but we're talking about a guy I'm Eagle a Hall of Fame player a dude that like means the world to me so uh you know at the end of the day um he'll look back and realize that he was one of the best tackles ever played in the NFL especially from a past protection standpoint no doubt about it and um I love the dude very much we have shared a lot of moments together on and off the field who he is as a as a teammate is has stood true um everybody that's ever been in that fucking Eagles building has said nothing but amazing things about the guy the times that I've been able to be around him it feels like he is a brother of you know an extension of the family man um he's just one of those guys and uh playing this game for a long time you know we kind of came in uh together uh back in 2013 I remember being at the combine uh saying what's up to him and uh and meeting him there and uh and to go to Philly where he's now your teammate and and just how his career unfolded um and being one of the best to ever do it man uh two-time champ I love the guy listen it's it's a major blow everybody you know they're I think the Eagles in Lane's absence since he's been there are below 500 team I believe I mean there's a reason why you know he's so important to the Philadelphia Eagles on the field so um you know Markel Bell drafted him in the third round it's time to go Bubba I mean it's you're gonna get put in there you've you've been able to learn from Lane a little bit and you know Chris Cooper the offensive line coach uh has been teaching you all preseason and up until this point so but yeah it's it's gonna be a bummer for me not being able to watch Lane do what he do what he does and uh dominate the way he is he was still dominating that's what's you know come on now well we love you Lane a little update on the Caitlyn ones the Cowboys been rolling Cowboys been rolling Dak can put up some numbers CD can put up some numbers and I think eventually they're gonna get George Pickens involved so I'm kind of sniffing around on that one I think the rest of the week I know this is gonna sound insane I'm kind of excited for two oh and four teams to play each other Texans Titans I think Texans got some problems but I don't think one of those problems is CJ Stroud I think CJ's gonna have a good game I think he's gonna find Nico Collins I'd look around at that one I think where else we look in this league where else you looking Ravens Falcons I don't know what's going on with the Ravens Lamar's questionable but the only thing I don't question the game is B. John Robinson B. John Robinson did you guys see when they had football B. John Robinson I know it's a short week but B. John Robinson that's all that's all I gotta say and we cap it with Rams Bills my god what a what a Monday Night Football game that's gonna be a lot of offense Stafford was slinging at the end of the of offense on Monday Night Football I man what a slate of stuff what a slate of games oh man this is a great slate of games but again that's what I'm watching for prize picks that's where I'm sniffing uh let's talk a little bit more about the uh the rest of week four Jason you called your first NFL football game and I did and I did it dude from from a viewer standpoint fan first little bias try not to be biased dude it's so natural your voice sounds like you should be doing this you don't even sometimes somebody comes in and you hear the voice and you're just like this is the cadence it's just like I don't know dude like a glove you fit like a glove obviously being in there with uh with Kurt Warner's uh gotta be pretty pretty epic and full circle moment as well knowing that we were huge Warner fans growing up but um yeah tell us about it dude how was it it was incredible it was so much fun um you know not just Kurt Warner but Dave Pash the play-by-play guy that's up there with us both of those guys the the production crew Jeff like Mike like everybody up there Molly on the sideline you don't realize how much is happening there until you go do it especially for TV um you know all the planning that goes into it throughout the week what you're gonna hit and then before you know it like the second string quarterback Marcus Mariota's out and you got a third stringer in you've never really seen before um it was exhilarating it was hard I was like leaning forward and it feels like you're in it a little bit up in the booth like it's like hell yeah it feels like you're a part of the game which is fun to feel again and I just want to with making I know everybody went out of their way to try and help me out because I had no idea what I was doing right and it's like you go into it and especially the first quarter you're you're like man am I do I go now or how do I feel this out and I could just tell like you know Kurt would would do like he could almost feel I think and he didn't say this but I feel like he would he would just have this way of being like he could feel that I was getting robotic or like getting too segmented into something and he would just be like I don't know I don't know I don't know I don't like you know Jason how they do this and he would like say my name and talk to me and it would be like an instant way of making it more conversational if that makes sense and Dave the same thing like both of those guys just like really amazingly uh good at what they do and I just felt uh I I feel like they really have been helping me out this whole time even when we did a rehearsal deal earlier this year and um it was so fun to actually go out there and do it - Get you some laughs. five bullets on the mic that's right that's right dude that's so fucking awesome man dude and how fitting is it that the first game you call an offensive lineman ends up with the football in his hands baby exactly it was like it was very serendipitous october 25th gallic mattis has another batted ball and it's caught by an offensive lineman on the road big fella brandon yo big fella this reminded me of sandlot when smalls just puts his hands up the ball just comes right to him and a banger of a reference oh man that was fun man that was a very electric moment in the game for a game that was kind of starting to turn sideways for the commanders but um you know you're not supposed to step on the play-by-play guy and i was so excited i was like go big fella and i was talking to dave afterwards and i was like should i be worried about stepping on he's like well that's a very specific instance that was hilarious so keep doing like if that happened again feel free dude that's that made that made that play so much more fucking exciting and fun to like watch because everybody's like yeah truck somebody run somebody the fuck over like break another tackle you know what i mean like a fat boy gets the ball man it's fucking no no it's the best man yeah that was a fun one that was a very fun one to be a part of for sure that's awesome man any uh any panic over trying to uh pronounce commander's uh backup quarterback name aethon go ahead i can't read no i don't know it's crazy yeah aethon khaliak manis khaliak manis khaliak manis i was just trying to say whatever dave said because i was looking before the game you know you're checking all the guys on the roster and khaliak manis is on there and you're doing your research to make sure if they do go in you got to kind of say some stuff oh yeah and i was looking at the pronunciation guide at the bottom of it and there's there was no pronunciation for it oh no oh well i probably won't have to use it if it's not down there then sure enough first quarter he's in and i'm just like all right i'm just gonna try and say whatever dave says there we go yeah that's but honestly dude the kid was awesome yeah he had some juice well he had some juice i mean he threw an interception early but it was a good play by the linebacker to catch it up and tip it and get the interception i just loved his attitude and his moxie like he was he was smiling on the sidelines you could tell he was really happy and excited to be out there playing his first nfl action so um it was a complete joy to watch aethon play no doubt about it that's awesome man well i wasn't the only one that enjoyed it everybody fucking enjoyed jason kelsey in the booth uh doing a little color commentating um we just got this tweet here from andrew uh marchand espn's nfl end team of posh kelse and warner sound like an nfl level broadcast kelse continues to show potential in the booth we got a legendary correspondent uh beau allen actually tweeted uh shout out to my bud jay kelse in the booth today for the coles commanders great perspective on the game um in a great pull of one of the greatest movies ever say i'm not um and uh lexi osborne uh jason kelsey may have found his calling with color commentating really enjoyed him on this game dude you love football and that's the that's the one of the fucking and it and it it was very it like oozed out of you and when when i heard uh what i got to what i got to hear on the game man and it's you know when when you're making the game fun to be a part of people are gonna fucking love it man and i think it i think it just comes very natural to you brother and i couldn't be more proud of you man that was awesome i appreciate it it was it was a very fun game to this is a very fun experience we get another shot at it this week uh obviously with the eagles and jags uh looking for i've already you know there's already of course you know i was excited to do the first one but there's so many things to get better at so i'm looking forward to getting another go at it this week be in london for another one i don't know what the fuck i just sound like fm la dad i was actually watching sarah forgetting sarah marshall the other day that was a much better accent all right let's get to everything else grab um remaining are now the vikings niners and chiefs that's why fucking rolling man vikings are probably the most shocking in my mind at least i don't know how i mean brian flores has to be a head coach after this year right like the vikings have no offense and they are fucking unbeaten this is insane it is insane they are so good on defense that it's crazy they've won two games without scoring a touchdown travis that's insane where is it the texans that were doing that who did that as a as of late well the texans were iconically very very good last year and their offense was struggling and uh the offense kind of got it going later in the year when cj came back a little bit but then faltered in the playoffs but yes the the vikings shockingly they are undefeated despite kyler murray missing a couple games and carson having to start and then kyler coming back and again multiple games without scoring a touchdown offensively that's impressive winless tampa bay bucks chargers texans titans and the texans are going to win this year and dolphins there's five winless teams still damn very surprising those first three bucks chargers texans never saw this coming obviously titans new coach dolphins new coach got to get things kind of going in the right direction bucks chargers texans we're coming into this year we're all thinking they're gonna all three of those teams are in the playoffs for sure yeah i mean the texans had the best defense in the nfl last year it may be arguable uh with the vikings but uh they were incredible if you look at the statistics i guess more arguable with seattle like maybe but either way the texans are low on the defense side of the ball it's you know the but the defense hasn't been as quite as dominant they're still good they just haven't been like what the vikings are doing right now and the offense really hasn't improved as much as i think people expected the bucks man i mean i'm feeling for my guy todd i was with todd in philadelphia an amazing defensive coach uh now they're without baker mayfield it's it just is not gone their way this year and then the charge is probably the most surprising that was the one i really thought like do you take herbert and mike mcdaniel and jim harbaugh like there's no way and this offensive line healthy there's no way this team isn't going to be really good and um it just is not clicking right now man i don't it's a it's wild to see that that's not working out the way everybody expected yet um so yeah man the nfl is crazy it is absolutely it is it's all it's it's any given sunday dog you gotta fucking you gotta find a way man everyone was yelling at each other this week uh we got cam hayward yelling we got tj watt yelling well it was really it was only the stealers actually you guys are yelling too yeah everybody was yelling football is a fucking game of hostility man dude this is actually a point i want to make i think people get surprised at football players yelling because they forget like this is what you do when you're really passionate about something and you want to get the ball out of your face and you want to get the ball out of your face and you want to get the ball out of your face and you want to get the ball out of your face and you want to get the ball out of your face and you want to get the ball out of your face you want to get the fucking fixed because everybody lives in this corporate world where you're not allowed to yell at people and it's just like no actually we just yelled at each other all the fucking time like this is this is a wednesday practice i told you to fucking block the three technique what the fuck is going on that's a standard day for a football player yeah and you know sometimes sometimes a little yelling sparks a little you know intensity a little bit more you know aggression and like i gotta fucking get this fucking thing done done you know yeah we need to be yelling it we need people to be yelled at more i think in you know yeah we need to be yelling it we need people to be yelled at more i think in this world we need people to be yelled at more i think in this world they've forgotten the you heard it here first they've forgotten the you heard it here first they've forgotten the you heard it here first brandon yeah brandon yeah brandon yeah jake jake jake it we're pro we're a pro yelling business it we're pro we're a pro yelling business it we're pro we're a pro yelling business now i'm a pro i'm a pro yeller i'm a pro jake it we're pro we're a pro yeller i'm a pro yeller i'm a pro yeller i'm a pro yeller it's a great the change nobody told you to come in here am i mike nobody told you to come in here am i mike nobody told you to come in here am i mike mccarthy in this situation mccarthy in this situation mccarthy in this situation fuck all's fair in fucking football who fuck all's fair in fucking football who fuck all's fair in fucking football who cares i fucking know that i've yelled at cares i fucking know that i've yelled at cares i fucking know that i've yelled at shit with people that i love all the shit with people that i love all the shit with people that i love all the fucking time yelling at me is a great fucking time yelling at me is a great fucking time yelling at me is a great way to get me fired the fuck up way to get me fired the fuck up way to get me fired the fuck up especially in the middle of a game especially in the middle of a game especially in the middle of a game this motherfucker's yelling at me this this bobby boucher and i start out there like bobby boucher and i start out there like bobby boucher and i start fucking yeah what do you gotta say now coach yeah what do you gotta say now coach yeah what do you gotta say now coach looks like i did my job jason let's fucking go two referees were let's fucking go two referees were let's fucking go two referees were suspended for yelling so much yelling suspended for yelling so much yelling um i didn't even know you could suspend um i didn't even know you could suspend um i didn't even know you could suspend referees well according to the nfl referees well according to the nfl referees well according to the nfl ra uh who responded to the suspensions by ra uh who responded to the suspensions by ra uh who responded to the suspensions by the way the nflra is the nfl the way the nflra is the nfl the way the nflra is the nfl ref association so it's the union for ref association so it's the union for ref association so it's the union for the nfl officials nfl officials have a the nfl officials nfl officials have a the nfl officials nfl officials have a responsibility to conduct themselves responsibility to conduct themselves responsibility to conduct themselves professionally on the field and the professionally on the field and the professionally on the field and the actions in these incidents fell short of actions in these incidents fell short of actions in these incidents fell short of that standard accountability matters that standard accountability matters that standard accountability matters but that shall not result in discipline but that shall not result in discipline but that shall not result in discipline that is excessive or inconsistent with that is excessive or inconsistent with that is excessive or inconsistent with established precedent meaning off established precedent meaning off established precedent meaning off they're not suspended so i don't know they're not suspended so i don't know they're not suspended so i don't know what the gonna happen what the gonna happen what the gonna happen um oh i mean that's what that is it's um oh i mean that's what that is it's um oh i mean that's what that is it's basically them saying like yeah i know basically them saying like yeah i know basically them saying like yeah i know jeff siemens uh said you to jeff siemens uh said you to jeff siemens uh said you to trey mcbride i've been at a few trey mcbride i've been at a few trey mcbride i've been at a few you conversations this one this one to you conversations this one this one to you conversations this one this one to me is like i i kind of am with the me is like i i kind of am with the me is like i i kind of am with the officials union on this one because i officials union on this one because i officials union on this one because i don't think don't think don't think i i think he said you i i think he said you i i think he said you it was probably a response to a bunch it was probably a response to a bunch A bunch of back and forth. Before that, we had to listen to a bunch of nonsense. So I kind of feel like he's probably at least somewhat warranted in telling Trey to fuck off. Maybe he's not. You think Trey gave him a fuck you first or what? I mean, what do you think? They were going back and forth, and he probably said something. The guy said, fuck off. Fuck you. I'm tired of dealing with you. I don't think that there's that much wrong with it. I get that maybe he shouldn't act that way, and maybe the NFL ref associations would be like, hey, probably not a good look for you to tell players to fuck you. But regardless, like, I mean, I'm not that mad about that one. It's football. What are we talking about? I do think the Aiden – did you see the Aiden Hill one? That was wild. I have a bigger problem with this one because clearly Eric Wilson did not try to do this, and then he's trying to help him up, and then he gets mad at him. I think this is bogus. I feel like I've been around the ref before, and very uncharacterized. Like, I would have never guessed that he was going to be the one to react. Probably just got embarrassed and fell down, and then he's mad, and maybe he didn't know. He thought that the guy did it. I don't know. On purpose. I don't know. Who knows? He's blowing the whistle, I guess, so he's mad that it probably happened. Whatever. That's probably what this is. This is probably getting taken out of context because nobody else is playing. Go back to the start of this, Brandon. So why is Eric still going after him? That's probably why the official was like, you need to go back to your side of the ball, and he's mad that he got hit because he had already been blowing it dead. You know what? I've retracted all this. I'm on the side of both of these officials. I take the official side. Players can be fucking dicks. I knew it firsthand because I was a dick. I'm kind of pro-official standing up for themselves. Fuck this. All right. Where are we at now? It does feel like there is a bit of it getting taken out of context just because it's the slow motion of it all. When I first saw it, it looked like he was accidentally pushing him, which he is. But then when you watch it further, it's like, why is he still going? The official's blowing the whistle. He probably should have already stopped. And I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I do like Eric Wilson. He's a very nice person. Eric's one of the nicest guys I ever met. But when you're on the football field, it's like legal assault. Yeah, I mean, I get it. Let's tell the officials we should probably refrain from acting that way as officials in the NFL. But at the same time, yeah, I don't really mind it. Well, one thing that is very noticeable about the refs is that we're setting an NFL record this year with four. Flags thrown. All right. I had you guys back when you told us to fuck off. This is where I'm going to disagree. We need to put the finals back in the pockets a little bit. I'm all for defending referees. And I don't think there's been a lot of questionable calls that have called back touchdowns. There's a crazy amount that have. And I've been harping on this for like two weeks, Trav. You know me. I've been saying this. I do not think, especially end of game situations, that we should be calling all these fucking penalties. Like, I just. Week four alone. Had. Two hundred and seventy-one accepted penalties. How many is that per game? How many games are there? Eight? There's 16 until the bye week. Sixteen games. Two hundred and seventy-one. It's a lot of dollars per game. How many fucking. Yeah. What are we doing? It's over ten. I mean, I don't know what's going on. Either way, it's very apparent that there's a lot of calls right now. And it's, in particular, calls that are in big moments. And then, like, calls that are taking. Like, in our broadcast, the guy, like, they're kind of jostling after the play. And the guy. Pushes them afterwards. And they call personal fouls. Like, dude, unless he, like, punches this motherfucker, can we just, like, calm it down? And then, if it starts becoming an issue again, at a certain point, you got to get control over it. But if it's just, like, a one thing, I just. Let the boys play. Let the boys play, ref. I'm with you. I'm a big fan of let the boys play. Seventeen touchdowns have been nullified in four full weeks of football. It's crazy. Nullified. And then, there's also the ones, like, the defensive pass interference. That have been handed out. Like, look at the Broncos game at the end of it. Look at the Dallas one almost ended the same way. I think the ref should be trying to not impact the end of games. And they should feel that we should only throw this flag if somebody is way out of line. And it's, like, this is a clear, egregious, like, committed penalty. That's my opinion on this. I just don't think the game needs to be called that tight. I don't think people want the game to be called that tight. Maybe people on Twitter who got money on the line, they want to, and they want to press, like, a fucking screenshot. And be like, hey, that's a hold. Or he's offside. So, fuck those people. I don't give a shit about those people. I want to watch a game that has flow. And I get to watch two dudes battle. And know that, yeah, maybe somebody's going to fucking get a leg up on a second. And that's part of the fucking game. I hear you, man. Flags in the pocket. And more refs telling guys, fuck you. I'm with that. All right. That's Bull Topics. It was brought to you by Pepsi. Stamp of the Week. Brought to you by. Brought to you by American Express. Yeah. Okay. We got an idea here. Do we want to completely tear apart how we do Stamp of the Week? Sure. We saw this tweet from Trey on Twitter. Can we do a Youth Athlete of the Week or Month or a New Heights Top 10? You guys are like the new sports center. All right, Moji. Shout out to Trey. I like either of those. Top 10 sounds great. I love the time. I mean. Dude, it's electric. Absolutely electric. Still electric. Love that. But how about we, instead of just doing just a straight up Top 10 one, we do a blind ranking Top 10, because that's always fun. All right. Yeah. Sounds good. All right. Well, Brandon. Can we just conveniently have 10 plays picked out already? I've got 12 plays for you, buddy. You guys can veto one each. Okay. We each get one veto. Okay. This is from the week of sports. It could be from anywhere. We got it all. We got baseball, basketball, football. It's a beautiful. Yeah, this is sweet. I like it. All right. Hit me, Brandon. All right. Let's go. We're going to start. Dallas at Houston. You boys CD Lamb fans? Veto. Because you're about to see these nuts. My man dropped 17 receptions, 189 yards. The CD's nuts. And the go-ahead touchdown on the Houston Texans. Where are we ranking CD Lamb? What? This is. This isn't a Top 10, Brandon. This is a highlight reel. This is just a highlight reel. We're vetoing this. No. Look at that. Look at my dog. You get one play, Brandon. Do you know how fucking Top 10 works? You don't have to play 10 videos of CD Lamb to get one spot. You get one fucking play. What are we doing? At least show me him routing somebody up. That'd be entertaining. But it's just. He's a great player. He's wide-ass. Do you know how a Top 10 works? No. It has nothing to do with how good of a player you are. Damn it. This was such a good idea until we let Brandon be in charge of the Top 10. All right. Veto. CD Lamb. Out of here. Moving on. Moving on to undrafted. Second-year wide receiver from Eastern Washington. Efton Chisholm III. Only two grabs. But he had the go-ahead touchdown. And Bills passed. Watch the one-handed grab. This was nasty. Oh, good drifting by Drake May. Oh! That is. I mean, that's got to be out there, right? That's to get the lead. That's for the game. That is the lead. That's a game on the line. That's a. Odell did it for the lead? Woo-hoo! That's a hell of a catch. I didn't even know white guys could catch the ball like that. I thought that was strictly like a black guy thing. It's frowned upon. I mean, this has to be one or two. I don't know. Does it get much better than this? This has to be one or two, right? Well, it's a blind. I don't remember any plays from the week better than this, seeing this. Do we give away one that early, though? Do we give away one that early? All right, fuck it. I'll do it one. Nothing can be better than that this week, right? One! Off the bat. Jesus. That was fucking nasty. That was incredible. And the circumstances. All right, we're going to move on. Halftime at the Seattle game. We had the 20-26 Corgi Cup. Look at Banana running away with it. Running away with it. Banana the Corgi. Oh, man. I don't know if we're going to need to veto another one, but I'll put this at 10. I already ruined my veto. Look at Banana the Corgi with the look back. Look at the taunting. I'll go 10. I'll go 10. Shout out to Banana. Banana the Corgi, you're at number 10. We're going to keep moving. I don't know if you guys are aware of this, but a miracle happened this week. The Jets, after 637 days, got an interception. I'm going to show you two. Here's the first one. That's crazy. First one that got called back. 600 days? I honestly think this should go on the list. It's electric. It's called back. It does not count, but it is a fat man running. I'm all on board with that. Woo! oh oh wait i thought you said it was running he runs enough well here it is moved look at that here it is to him just look at that big boy look at everybody slowly rise this is coming back if it week. False starts, offsides holding, but those aren't the fouls we need to talk about. The real fouls are happening at your tailgates and game day parties. That's right, the flavor fouls. We're calling them flavor fouls. You're committing without even realizing you're committing them. You spend all week thinking about them chicken wings, the nachos, the burgers. When it's time to grab a drink, what are you reaching for? If your cooler's in stock with Pepsi Zero Sugar, that's a flag every time. This is the time of the show where you get to hear from the person you've been waiting to hear from all show long. Let's take it to Mr. Ben Affleck. All righty, our guest today is a 6'4 actor, writer, producer, and director from Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is a two-time Academy Award winner. You know him from Good Will Hunting, Argo, Gone Girl, Armageddon, The Town, The Accountant, and his new movie, Animals. He's Tom Brady's go-to practice receiver. Come on, baby. He's a Who Wants to Be a Millionaire champion. And making his second appearance on New Heights, 92%ers, please welcome back Ben Affleck! Let's go! What an intro. Yeah, baby! I feel like I should be going into the octagon right now. Except I'm not going to get my ass kicked, which is nice. That's so down. All right. Let's go, baby. 6'4, I got the height. Yeah, we're doing it good. We're doing it right. Tailgating. I love it. I love it, man. Animals, dude. Fun, fun follow, man. Appreciate you letting us screen it a little bit, man. Hell yeah. Awesome. Ben Affleck, the politician, baby. Let's go, man. Let's go, the independent. The independent. Independent. Yes, I don't want to step on your toes. That's right. That's right. But yeah, I'll tell you, the experience with that was like, that is not a life that you want. Right. I did one day where I wanted to create, like start the movie like with a, you know, like those commercials that, you see when they all go out and shake hands and you know, like everybody loves me and I'm out in the town and all that shit. And I just was like, fuck it. Let's just go out with a camera. And, and Steven Yeun who's playing my campaign manager, a bunch of t-shirts and we'll just go around and I'll just say like, I'm running for mayor and I thought maybe we'll get a little bit of stuff. I swear to God, nobody said any, they were like, oh, cool. And by the way, I was like, this, the name is Mark Kimball. And people are still just like, oh yeah, you will vote for you. Sure. I'm like, keep this going. I'm like, what do you want to change in Los Angeles? And they fucking go off on their tirade. And then you're going to vote for me. Yeah. But get a picture. Sure. Here's a hat. I'm like, if that's all it takes, that's all it is after a day of grinding out, like, just, it felt like one of those, like, I don't know, like, you know, there's like combo convention, signing convention or something where you're just at the end of it, like, you know, just so it's like more exhausting than like actually working out, you know? Yeah. It's just the energy and the schmooze and the grind. I just thought like, this is a life that is, I don't know, not, not, not, not for me. I hear you. No, that makes a ton of sense. But how crazy is it that people were like, I'm wondering, I'm talking to them. Cause we have an election for mayor in LA. Like I'm thinking maybe my guy might get written in. That's too funny. Yeah. You don't realize how much the, the, that nonstop. If you're a mayor, you're like, I'm going to vote for you. I'm going to vote for you. And that, that, that nonstop, if you don't rest the mind, man, their mind could just get fucking racing and you can feel even more exhausted after a day, just by letting the mind race around. Just like having to kind of engage, you know, and, and, and, and it's being in that mode, right? Like, it's like you're, you're, you're, you're on and you know, you're trying to be a certain person. And also that like trying to sell you, I feel like a car salesman, you know what I mean? Like the grip and grant and how are you going to do, Hey, how, who do you, we, can we have your vote? And like, you're constantly kind of. Feels like you're reaching in people's pockets all the time, sort of in the, and trying to get this, like, uh, make something that's not really authentic, sort of look authentic. And you know, there's always like, luckily since I'm not a real politician and wasn't, don't really have any positions, there could be nobody still, there's people that were looking at me like, I'm not voting for you. You see a couple of those guys, like looking back in the background, like, I hope he comes over here. I'll tell him to fuck himself. I'm not vibing this guy. Yeah, that is, that's hilarious. That's so good. I mean, yeah. It just feels like a politician is everything. So transactional, right? Like every, every interaction is like, what can I get from this person or what do they want from me? Like, yeah. And when I'm a promise you something, it's like, Ooh, you're promising everybody, everything you can do for them. People out, you know? And it's like, yeah, it's that thing of, and now I get my, my, he'll give you a hat. So kind of, it is, we got into this thing. That's like, what am I going to get? You know? I don't know, man. What do you want? It's all fake, bro. I can't do anything. I got nothing to really fucking give you. This is an act. I can't believe everybody's going along with it. I'm not going to be mayor. I hope. This is so good. That was, it would have been epic to see, man. You've obviously won an Academy award for directing and starring. How big of a difference? Is it knowing that you got to do both? Like, I know it sounds like it's just an impossible feat, but you've done it at the, at the, at the pinnacle before, were there any like differences or anything, any difficulties, uh, this time around? I wonder, you know, cause I've heard people make the analogy to, uh, like player coach, you know, which, you know, you see in, you see a little bit of baseball. I guess you've seen in basketball, maybe it's, there've been basketball head coaches that were players. Like I figured that must. They're former players. Yeah. There you go. Yeah. Jackie. Uh, Mario Lemieux, Mario Lemieux over in hockey. He's there. Right. Right. And definitely like, you know, Pete Rose was a player co you know, there's a, right. You know, part of it is kind of like, uh, it's a little bit of a weird thing because like you're starting yourself, obviously, you know what I mean? And, and also it's, it's, it's, it's a kind of putting on two, two hats, but for me, actually, I feel like I didn't really. Get kind of confident. I wasn't really good in my opinion at acting till I really started directing and it gave me this other point of view, uh, which, which I think maybe is analogous across other things where you're like, if you're just in there and you're just doing your job, sometimes it's hard to see how that connects with what everyone else is sort of doing and the big picture stuff. And so when I sort of stepped out and started directing all of a sudden, a lot of things became like much more clear about sort of what was helpful, what worked, what things to fight on. What things are like, you know, going to kind of go down this direction. And, you know, it's probably is analogous to a head coach. Like at a certain point, you know, we're going to run these plays. You gotta be running these plays. You can't, you know, you can't be on your own team, right? Really, you know, making movies is a, a team sport. It's not like, you know, you're not a novelist, you're not a sculptor, you're not on your own. Like, and if, if everyone's not on the same page, you know, you got a real problem as people were in their own, their own movies. And all of a sudden you're like, okay, this is like a, a big comedy and this guy's in a tragedy over here. And so for me, the best part about it was like, I kind of approached directing from, you know, how as an actor would I want the set to be? Because I'm a big believer in honestly, like, and I use the metaphor a lot that, that with sports, not that I'm a professional athlete or even a semi professional or even sub semi amateur athlete, but nonetheless, what I imagine is like you perform well when you were basically relaxed. Like if, if, if your heart's a cortisol and your heart's not pounding and you get tight, like you're going to make mistakes. You're going to second get, I mean, you see it, I mean, even in New England, we're seeing right now, maybe like that, like how come all of a sudden the performance is changing like mental errors. That's obviously to me about, I think that's what was, you mentioned Tom, like what I think his great gift was just not getting tight Superbowl support quarter and he's basically making decisions. Like he would be making, you know, in a low stress environment and everyone else is like, I can't fuck up. I've been right. This is it. Like it's all led to this, that, that makes you anxious. And as an actor, that's the word, all of a sudden it looks fake. The whole point is to take a whole fucking make believe operation where everyone's faking it. It's not real. This isn't happening. And you're trying to get an audience to watch it and forget that and actually believe that what you're showing them is real. So you need to have people be relaxed and at ease. And if they actually feel like. I can do anything I want, but I'm, I'm choosing to sort of say the lines and do this, that that's sort of the best. And so my approach has always been to try to create that atmosphere for people where they feel like, you know, they can do what they want. Like I learned this a long time ago in this movie called Dazing and Fused where the director said like, Hey, everybody like write your own stuff. If this is just my script, this finish is going to be an underachievement. So people felt like they could bring something to it. You know, you could raise your hand. You go, how about this? It wasn't just. Okay. You know, here's the slate. And now we're acting and sale lines. Exactly. Cause that looks like a mayonnaise commercial, you know, you're kind of like. i fucking hate mayonnaise commercials man it's like uh it's interesting because i've been directing commercials and and a lot of times like um you know we have athletes or coaches or whatever on and what i find with guys that don't do it is like they they're great they can be great if you just relax like no no forget about the lines forget about how you're supposed to stand forget all that shit like who you are is interesting and cool and like if you can actually just relax be yourself it comes across great it's like when it's bad is when you know it's like uh you know one of those old like i remember i saw there was an old i love roger clemens great pitcher brought me a lot of many happy happy days but i remember he had a commercial where he was like hey man i'm trying to strike this guy out i know he doesn't talk like that you gotta do or like remember the nolan ryan commercial for those aches and pains i'll take that bill you got to do or like remember the nolan ryan commercial for those aches and pains i'll take that bill that is so good the duncan commercials are fucking legendary dude yes every year man they're so fucking legendary you got bill you got belichick to look relaxed up there man oh it wasn't easy that was when i was like is this motherfucker gonna yell at me you know what i mean it was like oh no what am i i was like so bill i thought maybe you'd like just me he was like okay i thought he was gonna be like on the cincinnati it was pretty uh you know it's it's interesting because like you know actors and the movies everybody's like you know the sports world is like that's what actors think is like special and cool that's what's like intimidating you know what i mean you guys do vice versa vice versa it's the same maybe but i know that we're just all sitting on the couch knowing that we're going out there and faking everything and these motherfuckers are playing for real hey sometimes hey sometimes though the best ones find a way to fake you when they need to fake it they they're like i used to hate the guy that would give fake energy and then you're in a game and there's no energy and you're like hey man somebody start faking some energy i need some energy like i need that guy i need somebody to spark something you already know i'll be the first one to start motherfucking and starting trying to get everybody hype throw a chair throw a chair throw a helmet started start to create some rage gotta make a difference right i mean i remember i met ray lewis who was probably the more like that dude was like the most impressive physical nice to meet you i was like this dude could actually break me in half i'm like how are you three times the size of a normal man and every like that guy i remember asking brady like play against like radio we just don't throw over there he's just it just doesn't make sense you know uh some that that level of exposure in the in nfl is where it's like it's that would be you need some energy to get out there hell yeah i mean we're talking about energy and you brought up like what's happening in new england a little bit right there and i just like it does feel like the energy is just off like this kid was so good last year was so poised like up for mvp discussions and the playoffs happened yes off yeah off to a terrible start to start the season but it does feel like it's just like there's no swagger there's no confidence there's no right is there things that could you just mention in like the acting like are there tools you guys use to like get an actor back on track or yourself back like what do you do when it feels like that there's definitely tools that i use like in a in a different context like for example some of the situations that i've run into are like because the hardest thing to do in a movie actually or television is to come on like for one day and have like a few lines that's harder than being the lead you don't get in a rhythm that's interesting you show up you know you've been doing you got your three lines you've read them ten thousand times i do want a hot dog i i want a hot dog and it's like it's not making sense you know what i mean yeah and you get there and a couple of times i've had guys just have this crazy thing happen where they forgot the line and then they started getting afraid that they weren't going to remember the line and after we did go again and they just no way yeah and they just couldn't couldn't cut it's oh yeah right okay you want a hot dog and what happens is you can see it it's just a vicious cycle the panic starts and the fear and it's that i'm in front of everybody and and you just go like you realize that that is a death spiral that is a little like an airplane once you get too steep into it you can't pull out right what i can do what you can't do in in pro sports i'm just like okay everybody leave first of all just anybody who's not involved just leave and chill it's just gonna be me and you put the camera here and i just turn it on and leave and then i like talk through the scene and i'm like do you need cue cards we'll put up cue cards like you got to know okay you won't forget it and eventually you know and sometimes you even have to go i'm just gonna give you the line give it back i'll give it to you give it back i'll say and sometimes you even get to a point where you know where you'll say like log on to the zoom link for the new heights podcast uh log on and it's like something in your brain you you know the person as soon as i walk out the door is gonna remember everything and that's where that's that phenomenon of stress the fear of failure and then that horrible feeling of failure and then that horrible feeling of failure and then that horrible feeling of i'm failing and it's a disaster like clearly that's a part of it drake may is not uh you see how good a quarterback the guy is you see what he's capable of doing it's not like he's all of a sudden his skills have changed right like right and i don't know what the what the tools are i think part of it has to be that confidence is you build on it right and negative confidence takes you the other way um and it doesn't honestly it doesn't help new england's a very hard place to play like i can remember getting so mad when the globe would be like fucking like beating his shit out of like pedro martinez i'm like why are you shitting and why are you writing an article about what asshole he is like write that about the yankees you know what i mean it's like they're like i saw a headline the other day it was like drake maybe not and you know like come out one two games man you know what i mean like who are you rooting for it's like uh but it's an example of like you know people expect a lot they pay their tickets new england got obviously spoiled but the truth is they were like that before new england fans were like that when i was growing up and you couldn't even watch the games on tv because they weren't selling out at fox bruce they blacked it out you know what i mean and there's still people are like game you suck steve grogan fuck you you know it was like that's kind of the vibe but the flip side of that is like people show up they show up at the games they're sure they're informed they're dedicated they care they're hoping you do good and they're looking for you to do good and you just got to keep it in that positive mindset we had uh for a full year with chip keller they brought in these coaches and like mental conditioning coaches and the whole thing they're like how to avoid thinking negatively how to think positively and we went through this week by week and these guys are awesome i actually really like some of the like listen like little tools and whatnot it was a complete disaster we guys like guys the guys are sponsors you'd sit you would sit in the room and they'd be like okay don't think negative thoughts and then we'd leave the room i'm like all right what'd you guys think so many negative thoughts so you don't think about pink elephants all of a sudden you're like you know no pink but now i can't stop thinking about it they're everywhere that's where i think you know you gotta be where did you get your like expertise and positive thinking you know who what's the criteria for that i don't know but it's it is a it is a thing where you kind of like you know because your broadcasters after a while you start to be like how much bullshit are we gonna listen to about like the mental toughness you know but there really is something to that i i think probably a lot of guys in in pro sports and women who play like they they have spent their life building that up already yes for the most part like you guys aren't getting to where you're at if you're gonna you know a little bit of a setback is gonna cause you to collapse and doubt yourself i mean and that's why some of it's a little bit of a setback but i think it's a little bit like you see guys are like you know oh look at the high stepping and the ego it's like yeah that that comes from needing to feel like you are the greatest so you believe you're gonna be great i understand that right it's fun and the crowds like it and everything and i think that's why people probably cultivate some of that and there's certainly a lot of uh ego in in my business too and a lot of times what i my approach to it is kind of like ego or weird behavior or whatever and i'm always like whatever there's you need to do to get to where you need to go yeah what happens when we show if you're here and we're shooting and you're great i could give fuck what your thing is what you're doing what you're talking yourself like i really don't even need that you know it's it really is a performance based thing and people have their own tools and tricks and um you know i think what happens is it's that's where you get the like youth right you're really young what was drake's what 22 or something like that like uh yeah 20 probably 24 or something yeah that's that's uh early on to get that much pressure to go from a place where because it's a weird thing that i think is hard to really understand what it feels like to feel like the whole world is looking at you all of a sudden right like i see it with people who who are actors and they're they're kicking around they're doing their job they're doing their thing then they they get this part whatever it is and all of a sudden you feel like you're you're famous overnight right like the experience of that and what that changes and some people they say some people stop developing at the point they get famous or or the people will say no it just makes you more of who you already are whatever it does it's a lot right and it takes another period of adjustment i think and look is certainly was uh you know a struggle for me to to try to get some perspective and figure it out i was lucky because i had a guy i grew up with in my hometown who was like i could sit down with him like is this fucking crazy or what i'm telling you that's the key man you got people that can keep you in reality and a lot of that stuff takes you out of reality and put you in a place that you aren't really because of the day by day but if you have people around you that can keep you in reality and keep you you know i mean checked and things are going okay i was gonna say because you won at such a young age uh you've got a lot of recognition at young age how did how did you necessarily deal with all that it really was the fact that like matt and i were friends and i could have those kinds of conversations and i knew like you know like yeah it was it was young it was 25 four four years old 24 25 and and like a year earlier you know eight six months earlier like i'm standing outside a club at the rope and can't get in you know what i mean and trying to wait or whatever it is like at the bar like i'm not nobody's trying to come up and talk to me you know no girls are trying to be nice to me and i'm like okay when it happens that fast it's all of a sudden it's different i'm like okay i i didn't become somebody really different in the last week yeah right i know it doesn't have to be like that but i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay i'm like okay but you kind of need you do need the people around you or like you know a little bit of um you know they say there's the story i remember i read the script i don't think it ever got made it was about and this is the most extreme example but it was saying how like caesar used to ride in like a chariot through rome and all the people would be cheering and he they had one person standing right behind him who was just whispering in his ear remember you're only a man yeah okay you know crazy but yeah also like you know you make it to do the emperor it's like you want a little bit of you know you need a little bit of that honestly to me the the interesting thing about yes you need to have like that confidence and ego and sense of of of purpose and and that you can succeed but in my experience in this job i think about like directors and actors and the writers like the people who i really respect who i think are like great who i want to be like who i admire they tend to actually have much more humility than you expect they're like yeah this is what i think i don't know i could be wrong you know what i mean like you know that it's you know nobody has all the answers they they're able to acknowledge the place where they're not sure but then it's like no i'm pretty confident about this and you figure okay that's probably right could not agree more i think it's more like they're humble about not having the answer but they're not anxious about not having the answer right they're like listen i'm comfortable that i don't know this let's go figure it out like we're gonna i feel confident that we'll get there and it took me like three movies maybe four as a director until i could get to the set and go honestly i'm not sure what to do here what do you guys think yeah just that much because i couldn't show that i thought i had you know had to have the and to actually realize i'm surrounded by really brilliant people and they all want this to work and where i just frankly had enough confidence of my own that that didn't threaten me and make me feel where i like what do you guys and then i'm like holy shit when you start asking people what they think discussion going they're coming in they're like great oh it's a real team okay here's my idea here's my you know this and that's like that all collects to the you know you realize it's i really think it's got to be the same with with team sports like you win the championship everyone has a ring you know yeah it's now this play that play this catch at the end of the day you win the championship you win the championship you win the championship you win the championship you did it you did it together you really did and that's what you want you get too focused on like your shit your numbers your thing how you're gonna look you know i don't think that's the best actually that's why you see sometimes like i think big stars whether a movie or sports teams or whatever where okay yeah i can see that person's great but the whole thing the whole team the whole movie whatever it is isn't itself great uh you know yeah absolutely 100 man listen we uh always hit um we gotta ask uh but you don't have to answer you tell us the fuck off but we were talking actually pre-show uh about kidnapping movies and which one was the greatest knowing that animals is a is about you know uh kidnapping yep there's a kid i wasn't sure if i was i wasn't you're not giving anything away yeah all right cool if the shit's in the trailer we're pretty good with telling people uh do you have any favorites just off the top of your mind uh in i mean the classic one that really comes to mind that i remember from my kind of child whatever it was like i remember like a big always big mel gibson fan from these so he did that movie ransom you know oh yeah there was always the one shot thing where it's like give me back my son it was like one line and shit he was so committed to it i was like fuck it i'm gonna see this movie his motherfucker wants his son back and there's the other great liam neeson i think in taken where man who spent his life developing a set of skills and now you fucked with me and i'm gonna take these skills and whatever that monologue was you were like these kidnappers are fucked oh dude everybody knows it everybody knows it so i guess that's the first two that come to mind jason had a funny one jason go ahead hit him with it what commando or which one which one that was the one yeah i didn't even remember that was a kidnapping that was arnold with guns it's about it's about an hour and 15 minutes of arnold just recklessly killing people in five minutes of a kidnapping that's right there was a kidnapping earlier sorry they kidnapped my my third cousin about an hour and he realizes oh yeah i gotta go get my daughter i even forgot about my daughter i love those movies i love arnold he's he's uh how can i mean terminator like i was he's just a yeah yeah okay when you do a streaming movie do you miss going to do the dvd commentary because iconic at that like is that something that you kind of i love that shit i know you know i none of them really do that kind of thing anymore and uh yeah like i had one i did when i was young like too young and fucking stupid to know any better i did this commentary for movie armageddon and for some reason i had it in my mind that like can you imagine it's like a guy playing on a sports team in then going out and be like i don't know what the fuck the coach is talking about you know what i mean like none of us knew what we were doing i just went out there and said like i was like i don't really think the movie made that much sense you know what i mean and i don't know why i thought that was cool or like i wouldn't get fired like what the fuck is i want to tell myself it's like i feel like my son now like what the fuck are you thinking was gonna happen when you did that and i always remember i'm like i was still like that in my 20s you know no sense of like what might happen and shit you know what i mean but it was of course it was fun i loved it man i loved uh and i think there is a it'd be funny to do like because you'd have to wait like 10 years to get guys to come back and be like all right now we're gonna tell the truth all right this this was fucked up we knew this was bad we were trying to make you know what i mean like that would be fun yeah yeah yeah i gotta ask you where did where on earth did you get these costumes for the kids in animals that was supposed to be like honestly from my son was like obsessed with fortnite right like oh nice and i play like you know i always play games and i try to like i play like first person shooter games from like so i think i'm good and shit you know i'm even trying to fuck around and get on and then like 12 year olds just fuck you up fortnite i try to come out and i'm like here i come like i get killed right away and then they taunt you and shit like you suck i end up getting in arguments fuck you i don't suck i'm a grown man anyways my son i was kind of like you know he's new you're getting old when you're like he's going through the skins and shit and he's like oh that's tough i'm like is that tough dude's wearing a bunny hat and the fuck he's got a tutu on and like i don't is this this is what's the cool all right you know like so i just thought like these costumes are kind of so random and kind of unusual that that's what i based the costumes on because i thought he'd be like getting them off like games geeks because because this is my son when he's like he's like for christmas can you get me these real skins for fortnite but they're 300 bucks i'm like for cost they didn't even real just to wear in the game like he's like limited edition that's bullshit man they're just getting gas they're getting so much cash off of that fucking i know like a limited edition they could just put it back out like no it just came with the one edition of the xbox in 2012 okay that's hilarious well that makes all the sense of the world now for sure it definitely feels like a fortnite and i feel you dude i brought i brought the n64 back obviously i don't have any kids but i got kids that were that i got players on the team that were born after 2000 so they don't even really know what an n64 is what vhs is what a super nintendo is so so i actually went out and got like a little uh 13 inch tv with the vcr already in it one of the old like panasonic joints and i plugged it in in my locker so i got uh n64 and no shit playing all day and honestly it brings back nostalgia man it's just kind of like i like just kind of having it on there i what i won't sit there and watch a movie but to see a scene here and there from some of the old old movies from the 80s reminds you of like and you're like damn we used to watch movies like it's like 720p you know you're like now it's like 200 bucks you get a 65 inch flat screen and you're like my dad had an 11 inch black and white tv i remember because he was a bookie the first time we got a color tv he was like you can thank steve grogan and all these fucking idiots that bet on the patriots we came back and got a tv and i was like all right cool i guess being a bookie's cool i don't know we got a tv and a washing machine i'm like oh my gosh yeah man i always wanted to ask you guys a question like because i i play you know madden and 2k all the time and like yeah i wonder like do you guys like this is kind of a real fit you guys play madden and like play your teams and fucker didn't like check how good fuck are you kidding me i do the my player i don't even tell i don't even use my person in the i'm like that dude isn't good enough i want to fucking be a 99 overall i want to be the fucking and i want to have 99 speed i don't know why i don't know what my son does he creates these i want to have a fucking juggernaut dude yeah i'm like you create these dudes they're the 99 everything and you win every game by 70 points why is that fun it's like dominate i get so into it we were like i was i you know also play like 2k all the time and i and we went out and was like ran into russell westbrook it's like a real it's good oh yeah man number four and i saw my son was like i play you all the time in 2k i'm like that's how he knows this you know what i mean like yeah like to me i'm like i saw russell westbrook and i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i'm like i understand but like it kind of it's kind of cool in a way because it brings back also like oh you know players from other eras and shit and i'm always like oh no larry bird right now he would be like larry bird would suck he slows hell on the game he's like anything that's not the contemporary guy like from another era football basketball is like you could never do it now yeah how are we going to settle this bet you know what i mean well i guess there's the 2k but then he's like no no this is fucked up kareem's too good in this game this is inaccurate all right well we got one more you're welcome to hollywood moment do you have one i got a lot of them um but i don't know how many i can tell you guys we're just i mean it's a very surreal world i guess i could tell you one of the most welcome i was like not necessarily one moment but like i had a period of time as you point out like where i i got successful really young and i did some movies right and then i was kind of like because as an actor you're just it stays with people i don't think you appreciate this so you have this sense of like i the next job like nothing's permanent you don't have a there's no tenure there's no go watch there's no seniority like if people don't see your movie like that's it phone stops ringing and so when i got successful i just did one movie after another as fast as i could or scared that it was going to go away and ironically kind of became a self-fulfilling prophecy because a couple of movies in a row that just bombed and all of a sudden like i i wasn't cool nobody wants to see my movies and i kind of couldn't get a job and what i experienced was like all these people who i really thought was studio heads or other cool people whatever it was who i thought my friends who i taught you know like didn't want to talk to me wouldn't return my calls like kind of avoided me and i realized like oh okay like that was the hollywood moment where i was like this is people really aren't your friends like a lot of these are not i got my friends that's not what this is this is something else and doesn't mean it's bad or wrong it just means that i need to understand what a lot of this is based on like if being next to you makes you cool or makes you look good or can get you something then people will want to do that and if it doesn't fuck you uh you know is the truth and when it came back it took me a few years that's when i started directing and i was like okay i'm going to do this and i'm going to do this and i'm going to really you know try to get back into some of my own terms if i'm going to fail at least i want it to be on my my own terms my my own idea of what's good and after the second movie that i directed um that i was in you know came out i remember talking to my agent and i was like because that it was like in those days you know that saturday morning you knew what the reviews were and you knew if the movies would be a hit or not basically and i at like noon on saturday i got like 10 phone calls from people that i heard from in you know three four years and i was telling my agent like can you fucking believe this look at other and he was like hey we're going to welcome back all our old friends and i was like okay you know what i mean like it's not about that like you know the whole the gruh it's just understand just understand what it is don't get this don't get over inflated and don't get yourself too you know what i mean like kind of keep us even keel and sort of know where you are even if the world is one day treating you one way and one day treating you another you can't be attacked you can't be attacked you can't be attached to that or you know it'll it'll make you crazy that's such a real yeah that's such a like real life lesson right there dog it's true man like you got friends you got family you know who that is and other people great and they're nice and you may have great work relationships and maybe you make a real friendship along the way you can only have so many real friends right like because what does that mean that means like you they there for you and it means you're there for them too that's the person you leave the house for at 2 a.m that's the you know like we have the bandwidth to to be there for our family and our close friends but and then okay some other people are acquaintances or work relationships and um you know and and how the world reflects back at you you know especially i think now whereas the so much social media is so prevalent that you're getting all these images all the time and i think it can fuck you up if you don't kind of develop your own internal sort of way in that reality man yeah hell yeah i'm i'm right
