Another episode of the Shreger Hour. We are now officially in April, which is draft month, which means time for mock drafts. Daniel Jeremiah is an absolute legend in the industry. He's one of my closest friends in the industry. He's also the perfect hybrid of someone who has plugged in, but also has the eye of a scout. There's so many times that we have people on TV who will come out and say, well, I want to take blank and I'm at home saying, well, I don't care who you want to take. There's others who will say, I'm hearing this and then they don't have any of the actual scouting background. That's more someone in my field. Daniel Jeremiah combines both of them. He is our guest today and we're going to do something that we have not done for ESPN or for Omaha or for the Shreger Hour yet, but we he and I have done for years when we were colleagues at the NFL Network. It's a live mock draft where we alternate picks and it is just candy if you are a draft nerd or a draft enthusiast with no further ado. Here is the annual Shreger Jeremiah mock draft. All right, this week is the Masters and Jim Nance likes to say it's a tradition unlike any other. I think that's secondary to the tradition we're about to unroll. Daniel Jeremiah and I've been working together for many years over at the NFL Network and now that I'm not necessarily on the NFL Network, we are family members again as ESPN and NFL Network have merged or have been, I don't know what's the term. It's been acquired the NFL Network. I don't even know the financials behind it. I just say I was just adopted. Whatever it is we're buddies again and we're a lot to do this and no one's going to be weird about it. Here's what we've done the last several years and it's usually my top rated podcast or video that I do in April. We do a mock draft the first week of April where we just ping pong off each other without any discussion beforehand and DJ as you know from move the sticks and at move the sticks on all the platforms is as good at this as anyone alive right now and that's no insult to Mel Kuiper field yates or whoever but DJ I'm not going to shy away from saying that when when I hear you talk there's some gravity towards it but also there is a full year of preparation that I so respect. So when we do a mock draft as everyone at home can listen and learn it's from different vantage points mine is me not being a film guy but more just texting everyone in the league and trying to get as much information and then DJ is a bit of a combination of that his superhuman power is that he has been a scout he has been in the front office but he also has a relationship around the league where there is some more relevance than just here's what I would do. So we're going to our annual mock draft it's going to be on the shragour hour it's going to air on television this week and it's going to be on all the podcasts that all the all the platforms that you get podcasts but DJ I've been talking for three straight minutes why don't you get in here what do you think of our annual tradition. Well I love it we're so close to April 1st I'm not an April fools guy but I was I mean because we do this every year around this time like I was thinking man what if we did it like one year and did it on April 1st and just for the first five minutes like you just said look the Raiders are taking Carson back like I know everybody's Sam and Dosa but they're taking Carson back. Can't just watch the universe. Diego Pavrile they love them so much you're taking them too. All right that's for the future. We're going to do we don't know which teams we're picking for yet so you're going to be on the spot and you're going to be on the clock and we're going to do odds and evens there's 32 teams we're each going to draft 16 picks. How do you want to decide this do you have do I have a coin here I have I have what appears to be a energy bar or like a protein bar I'm going to submit do you want label or do you want ingredients. I'm going to go label. Okay label it is do you want odds or evens. I will take I'm going to go evens. I like it I like it I will go odds this is so fun. All right this is and by the way who told us in the podcast that he did Tom Tolesco who we both know very well says by the end of his time in San Diego like in Los Angeles and even when he's with the Raiders for that you're like they would do mock draft simulations all day and then Ryan Poles came out I think a week ago saying yeah we do hundreds of them so this is this is what it is it's a mock draft simulation and it's it's not crazy that we're doing it all right first overall pick the Las Vegas Raiders are on the clock let's before we do that here's a here's Roger Gidell we've got a red Pittsburgh we're going to bring out some legends here's Ben Roth those burger here's uh here's my welding Moore and oh wait look at all drum bed it's just got a good it's it we fast Willie Parker's here yeah all right there we go there's our Steelers legends and Kid Rock is here and and we've got Brett Michaels and whatever it is we got a musical production now we can start the draft the draft is open the Las Vegas Raiders are on the clock this has been the pick since I saw Tom Brady and John Spitech drooling uh watching Fernando Mendoza and warmups at the National Championship game in Florida this this January the first overall pick for the Las Vegas Raiders will be Fernando Mendoza quarterback out of Indiana I love the fit I love everything about it he has taken a franchise or a program that needed to get over the hump and he has done that already in college and he's thrown a team on its back and oh by the way he's six foot five and looks the part of an NFL quarterback DJ before we go to number two empty the notebook just a little bit and what you've heard on Mendoza since we last hung out at the combine yeah I mean everything's great off the field the in terms of the preparation like the almost a psychotic nature that he has of being singularly focused locked in I learned about all this the the stuff we talk about Jay Daniel is doing all the virtual reality stuff that he's been doing that and doing it like for hours and hours and hours and hours a day like just totally obsessive his body he's he's transformed his body I mean he's always been a big guy but he's cut the body fat and he's 238 pounds at the at the pro day like all the work ethic he's dialed like he's he's he's absolutely wired the right way and then from the tape standpoint I always just point to it like okay if I told you you got a guy who has all that stuff we start with and then as the games get bigger he plays better as the moments in the games get bigger he plays better and all by the way he's incredibly physically and mentally tough like that's that's why he's the first pick yeah and one little nugget that I didn't know that spy tech told me at the league meetings and I was with him last week like he Brady Brady is like Mendoza's guy like as a kid like Mendoza is a huge Patriots fan which is like this you can't even write the stuff and that Brady was the guy he idolized like it almost the symmetry is almost too clean I I think it's one Mendoza and it has been since the day the college football season ended number two the New York Jets you're on the clock so I've gone back and forth on this a couple times so on the first I believe on the I think I've done three mock drafts the first two I had them taken Bailey then I flipped to Reese and thought okay well everything with the Jets having all those picks in 27 it doesn't feel like it's a crunch that they're trying to make the playoffs here in 26 it's pushing towards 27 and then he's more of the 27 pick he's not as further along Bailey's a much more polished past russure like you he's the more known commodity whereas with Reese you're you're playing the upside game and hoping what you're gonna get it reminds me so much and we were together I believe on this on this draft which was the Hutchinson Trayvon Walker debate what did they you know because it was Hutch is the better past russure right now and you had Trayvon Walker who's this physical freak who's not there yet but you're hoping he's gonna get there now both of them have been really good pros Hutch has been an elite player when he's been out there and been healthy it feels like that in that scenario the better athlete even though Hutch is a really good athlete went ahead of the more polished player and that's why I was kind of leaning in that direction but we were talking full disclosure before we launched here today we're kind of here in the same thing that as we're coming down the home stretch here this feels more like Bailey burden the hand pick versus the upside put a burden the hand and that's like we don't know what these guys are gonna become but you see it on the tape and there's substantial empirical evidence that David Bailey might be the more pro ready now is that what we would say more polished more polished he's he's just has a game plan as a russure he's been doing it forever playing off the edge he's very comfortable with it and I don't and much like with Hutchinson I don't feel like you're like sacrificing all this athleticism this guy ran four five flat like he's got big time juice he's super strong super explosive he's just not quite as he's just not quite as is loose of an athlete and as dynamic of an athlete as Reese but he's he's a better pastor I don't think that's in dispute can you do a second overall the New York Jets select yeah second overall the New York Jets select David Bailey that of Texas tech I like it okay third overall the Arizona Cardinals I'm fresh off a week in Arizona that the league meetings had a lot of time spent with their brass and I don't know anything more than I did before that week and they're very close to the vest new coach and Michael floor yet I am going to say despite his offensive background they are awful on defense and they are one of these teams that that are gonna be playing the Seahawks. the Niners and the Rams for the next several years, they need somebody somewhere to do something off the edge. With the number three overall pick, I have the Arizona Cardinal selecting Erfell Reese, linebacker edge out of Ohio State, your thoughts. Again, I think those guys are right next to each other on my list. The interesting dynamic is going to be when we start talking about Jeremiah Love and the running back thing. In terms of getting a dynamic player, Arizona, the one who fits that scheme best is David Bailey. But in this case, he's off the board. So we'll see what happens there. Sweat, you know, they're going to have to pay him pretty soon here too. So that'll get interesting. I took, I take Reese. It's one of those where it's your first pick. He's an absolute demon off the edge. He's got a future. You're not winning Super Bowl this year anyway. To me, I know there's the running back. There's a couple offensive line prospects. You got the wide receivers. Arizona to me again. This doesn't come from a place of knowledge more than the me being on the couch looking at how this roster is being built. I'm going Reese three overall. I like it. I'm going to pull up my sheet here. I have my cheat sheet that has all my needs on it too as well as I go through it so we can provide some better context. Tennessee. Tennessee, I think, I've been saying through this whole process, you've got to do something to help your quarterback here, man. Like do something to help them. And the pushback has been and it's legit. I've always believed with running back, you take them when you're ready for them. You got to have the offensive line in place. You got to have these key things set up. If you don't, you know, you're not going to get the most out of that. We saw with action, Gen T last year. But things can change in a year. I think the Raiders change their offensive line. And I think you'll see a much more dynamic version of action, Gen T. So I'm going to make a pick here with Tennessee that might not pay dividends in year one. You might look at it and say, why did they do that? They weren't ready for this kid. But I'm going to put some faith in trust in their organization that they're going to solve the offensive line through the rest of this draft and they're going to solve it next year's free agency. As they go into their new building in 2027, I just envisioned looking up at that stadium and seeing the cam ward picture right next to the Jeremiah love picture. So I am going to select for the Tennessee Titans with the fourth overall pick. Jeremiah love running back Notre Dame. I think it's the right pick. And I would argue this, if Reese or Bailey were to fall to four, yeah, is this small piece of me that's like, because I had Borgonsy on this very show three weeks ago. And he said, you know, how our free agency plan was, you know how Robert likes to build his defense. He likes waves of past rushers, waves of past rushers. So you can never have enough. And that really stuck with me. And I'm like, okay, if Reese or Bailey are there at four, does Tennessee shock the world and say, we're not going to go Jeremiah love. We're not going offensive line. We're just taking another defensive line. And even though we spent a ton of money on that, this offseason, I don't know. I don't I'm with you. I think running back economics be damned. Tennessee even prettier relevant since Mike variable left. You've got the great quarterback. Give him the guy at running back and who could play wide receiver as well. Yeah, the other thing is I know people are listening or watching to go, well, what about Ruben Bayon? There's another past rusher there. The stuff that I've got out of Tennessee is I don't think there's a huge Bain team. Now look, we'll see how accurate that ends up being. But I was told that was that was not their guy. So we'll see. All right, giants up at five. This one, obviously, you could get some traction when you consider on in New York. And I know those guys pretty well. And Harboss first pick as the new head coach, players on the board just to set the stage, all the offensive lineman, all the wide receivers, Carnell Tate, Jordan Tyson, and then of course, Sonny Stiles and Caleb Downs, linebacker and safety have been very good to John Harboss teams. Yet fifth overall, this might not have anyone doing flips in New York. The New York giants, I have selecting Francis Maui. No, let's go. The tackle slash offensive guard out of the university of Miami. I just think you look at that offensive line. We know we like Andrew Thomas, you know, Aluminor is going to be there. But Evan Neal, I don't know the rest of it. I don't know. You got Jackson Dard at quarterback, protect him. I don't know if now I know as the next Orlando pace or Jonathan Ogden. I don't think he is. But he was pretty good at right tackle for those Miami hurricanes. He could play right guard. I know it's safe. It's not startling. It's not something that's going to have people doing flips or building billboards. But I like this kid out of Miami. And I like to fit with the giants. Yeah, I was looking at that and going, okay, does he get to six with the next pick to go to Cleveland? Who's a team that's looking for a tackle and a receiver? So that was going to make my selection pretty easy if Maui. No, it was there. Just just turning the card there. And I do like the idea of Andrew Thomas being healthy at left tackle and eventually Maui Noah, you know, being their long term right tackle. I think that's, you know, that's his best spot. And you have John Harbock coming from the Ravens where it's always been invest in the trenches. You always start there. And I always also think there's something to when it's your first year in a place. Sometimes this first pick in the first round for these new regimes, they're almost more of a statement pick, even then just we need that. Who are we? What are we about? And now, again, the league meetings, everyone has their own thing. I get so much from talking to these coaches. Harbock when I when asked about the offensive line, he called it a work in progress. If you're telling me it's a work in progress, then that means that you need more star players and you're not going to get it in free agency with their salary cap. So this to me is a perfect pick. I don't know. Yeah, that's fun. I like that. Well, it made my decision easy at when I get to the next one here. Because if we're looking at those two different spots, I'm going to go to the receiver. I'm going to stay local for Cleveland. I'm going to go carnell tape wide receiver from Ohio State as a selection at number six for the Cleveland Browns. Again, I think there's a little bit of a gamble here on the tackle that you're going to have a tackle that you like there at 24 with their next pick. But to me, I think you get yourself in trouble when you start taking plays. Your warrant is highly rated and to me, carnell tape is going to be much higher rated than any other tackle. So they'd be staring at. So it gives them a nice vertical player who can go get it down the field and someone who also like from a makeup standpoint off the charts, like elite elite. Is that right? So give me a great way. What do they call it? The dossier on carnell tape is really as we come out of the combine, the first thing that comes to my mind is like, well, he didn't run fast. Yeah. No, and that's the thing. Well, I've said this before, which got a lot of people upset. But I said, look, if he had run 445 and was 205 pounds or 200 pounds even instead of 192, I think he'd start being in play with the jets at number two. His tape is that good. But it's kind of, it makes you a little bit of an outlier when you don't have the ideal measure goals in terms of the weight and the speed to go up there that high with the second overall pick. But in this draft, you're talking about somebody who, and the other criticism, he wasn't even the best receiver on his team. Well, the guy that's the other receiver might be the best player. And it's all the Jeremiah's wins. Yeah. What are you talking about here? So that's nonsense. But to me, the character stuff you hear about him, like he's been through stuff in his life, as young facing adversity in this kid is wired, like he is dialed, he is an unbelievable worker. All those things are exactly where you want him to be. So I think that's a home run picked for Cleveland Browse. Brian Hartline is no longer there, but these guys are pro-ready, man. That's, I mean, there's something to that. That every one of them that goes in the pros has a career and there's very few that you can poke holes in. And I look at a book a last year, though, he came out of the gates. It's like he was ready. He was ready to go. And now he didn't have the numbers in the second half. I see them. I don't care. I'm talking when you get to that team as a first round pick, can you contribute and they all do? No, no question. And I would say, and look, this is again building the infrastructure for the quarterback to arrive. And I still feel very much like their quarterback in the future is playing college football next year, but they're going to be a 27 team when it comes to that position. So hey, let's, let's make sure the offensive line, they've had to revamp the whole thing in free agency. Now let's make sure we have some fire power form when it gets here. All right. For the listeners at home, we have a visual. It's Mendoza, then Bailey, then Reese, then Jeremiah Love, then Francis Mauinoa, and then just now, Carnell Tate went sixth to the Cleveland Browns. The Washington commanders are now on the clock. It is my pick. I will put my Adam Peters hat on. I will look at the landscape of things. And I will say, I loved having Fred Warner in San Francisco. And I like having a Bobby Wagner type with the commanders, who is going to be that captain of our defense, which has been just dreadful the last 12 months. And I look at sunny styles going right back to Ohio State. I've got the Washington commanders. Have you a little earlier than some others taking sunny styles, the combined superstar, but a guy who everyone just raves about another Ohio State defensive product off the board in the top 10 sunny styles to the commanders, DJ your thoughts. Yeah. He's my third overall player. And I literally looking at my notes, you know, my comp was red warm. So he's a safety to linebacker. He can cover tight ends. He's got elite range. You watch the Indiana game, the big tent championship game. Think about all the big names in that game, including what we have going in our mock draft is the first pick, the third pick, the sixth pick already from that game that have come off the board. He was the best player on the field. He was everywhere. So I'm a huge sunny styles guy. And I do, I do buy into the fact of seeing in a player something you you saw in a previous player that was awesome for you, like that, that registers. Real quick. And I don't want to do this for every pick, but for this one here, positional value inside off the ball lineback. Like, is that a real, I mean, to me, that's a conversation for most players. Is he that good that he defies that? I think there's the two players we have going off the board in terms of Jeremiah 11 sunny styles are going to both buck that trend in this draft. Now, in other drafts where maybe we have a little higher ceiling players, we have, you know, more offensive tackles and, you know, there's even a longer list of premier ed rushers and, you know, more quarterbacks like, yeah, they'll have to wait their turn. But they're not going to have to have to wait their turn in this draft. Their grades just going to be so much higher than those other players that I, you know, I don't see that. I think they're going to go. All right. You're on the clock with the New Orleans Saints at number eight. All right. This one, I'm going to frame this way. I think it's going to be with the way this is falling. I think it goes on the defensive side of the ball. And I think there's three players that it comes down to. I think there's the top two corners, Mansour Delaing, Dermod McCoy, and then Ruben Bayne is still out there to give him some, some ed rush and a real presence there. I'm going to go to the corner position. And because of the way this thing is kind of finished up to the process, the fact that Dermod McCoy showed up and ran really, really well worked out really, really well. He's healthy now. I have Delaing as the top corner because I'm a little bit more of a fairway guy when it comes to the first round. I don't like taking a lot of risks there. But to me, he showed up and showed his health and what he looked like. And then you go back to his 24 tape, which is better than any corner in this year's draft, the way he played in 2024, up against some real legit competition. And he has more of the prototypical measurables. I think he does end up being the first corner taken. And I do think he's going to be selected here. So with the eighth pick, the Norland St. Selec Dermod McCoy. Wow. Ten of C. Wow. I love this. This is what I love doing this because I have not seen him go in that high. And yet everyone I'm talking to is saying, yeah, go. He missed all of 25. What he, of course, like you don't know him off the top of your tongue. But he was the best player on the field and a lot of those big SEC games in 24 and is looking seemingly healthy now. But that's early, man. That's eight. And the other thing is Brandon Staley. He loves, he loves big, big athletic, ranger players. He loves the SEC. Like I was around him for a couple of years with the chargers. And this is his, this is 1,000% his type of player. Okay. I love it. Now you threw me for a loop and the board has flipped a little bit here. And nine Kansas City, which I can tell you, it could potentially be a trade back team to be honest. I think Kansas City is looking to collect as many assets as possible. But they don't usually draft from the top 10 and I have no real precedent for Brent Veech. But now we've got some players that are available that I didn't expect to be available at this point. Number nine, the Kansas City Chief Select Spencer Fanow out of Utah, a versatile offensive lineman who can play either tackle spot, either guard spot and took snaps at center at the combine. Again, this might not wow everybody at home in Kansas City looking for that deep threat or looking for another playmaker, but I'm going offensive line and Fanow out of Utah, your thoughts DJ. I did this in my first mock draft and just, I'm going to just give you a heads up. Just don't check your mentions for like three days. Yeah, three days. You should not want this. Chiefs fans lost their minds. I mean, I went and did some KC radio after this and it was, you know, the thing. Yeah, yeah, he had to like, why in the world would they do this? I don't understand this. They're defensive, they lost all these corners. They need an edge rusher, and I'm like, well, look, I worked with Andy Reed for a couple years. I know the value he places on that offensive line. I know that they paid a right tackle last year. He did not play well when he was out there. So it's okay to admit mistakes. Man, in the meantime, if you need him to play guard and ride that out a little bit, he can do that as well. But to me, this is, and they also have the relationship. Kyle Wittingham's sons on Andy Reed's staff. Like Kyle Wittingham's one of Andy Reed's best friends. Like he's going to get a going recommendation here. But I'm just telling you, that's the, you're going to get feedback. You're going to get feedback. Let's just give me 30 seconds on the player though. Yeah, he's got excellent foot quickness. The big thing is they're the length, right? He doesn't have long arms and that's been the knock on him, but he's really, really quick. He's someone who can get up to the second level. You think about the chiefs, getting him out on screens like he can really, he can go out and pick off corners like he's really, really athletic. There's just times because of his lack of length, you'll see guys get into his chest a little bit and he might get bold at times. But he's incredibly smart aware of the, again, the character makeup stuff is great, great. So there's a lot to really like about him. I think he's my 13th or 14th overall player. So I have him like right in this, you know, right around this neighborhood here. He is my 13th guy. So it's not like this is some big reach. He's a really, really solid, good player. Okay. 10th overall. The Cincinnati Bengals are on the clock. Yeah. The Bengals got a lot of options here. I'm looking at it and I'm going, okay, Caleb Downs, Mansour, Delane, both guys really help our secondary. I like that option. I'm going through and let's see what they did in free agency here on free agency. They've obviously they lost Hendrixson, which is a big one. They lost the side. They got cooked from the chiefs. They have, they got Boi Amoffe. They added defense. I just, yeah. To me, I'm looking at it going, okay, we could go with the secondary player, but I'm going to, well, I'm going to go a different direction. With the 10th overall pick, the Cincinnati Bengals select Ruben Bain, pass rusher Miami. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's the warrior and Bain's an absolute warrior. And again, if his, if he was a little bit longer, he's not, he's not there at this point in time. It's abnormally short arms, but this guy is not a normal player. He knows obviously that short arms whole life. He knows how to win with those arms. He can bend around the edge. He's got incredible power. He's dominant at the point of attack against the run. You can also kick him inside, let him rush over guards when you get in third downs. He, he just, he's going to be a terror doing that, but it just provides him overall toughness and grittiness. I think that defense needs as well. What do they say? No notes. Is that, I mean, that's, that's, that's the, that's the right thing. And since the, that makes sense. 11th overall Miami Dolphins, New GM, New Head Coach and salary cap hell, but they have 11 picks in this draft. They have seven in the first three rounds, which is just a second team in NFL history to have that. So the dolphins at 11 are really interesting team. I'm looking what's on the board here. And with the 11th overall pick, I will have the Miami Dolphins select man sword, the lane, the cornerback out of LSU. To me, best player available right here. He's sitting there. He's available and Jeff Hathley's defensive backs coach. And let's start with a high value position number one corner and let's go from there. We thought it's on that selection. Yeah, he was my highest rated guy that was left here. So again, I have him as the top corner. I just think as we're coming down the home stretch here and we're doing this exercise as we're in the final month, I think there's a, I'll say there's a more than 50% chance that he gets caught as the first corner. I think my point is, as you remember, we did, we did flips for sauce gardener, the entire draft and come the last 48 hours. Everyone was like, actually, stingy is going to go before sauce. Like it happens. Yep. Now, I think that's, I think that's 100% legitimate. I'm making sure I cross off these names so I don't double up on you. This is a big one. This is the one that the clip will go viral 12th overall Dallas Cowboys on the board. All right. With the 12th pick in the 2026 NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys select out of Ohio State safety. Caleb Downs. Wow. Here. So Caleb Downs, I think in the process early on, there was talking. He could be, you know, the second pick. Is he going to be the fifth pick? Like, where is he going to go? I've always had him personally in my rankings, like eight to 10. He's always been right around there. And when people, when I've talked about him potentially being there at this point in time in the draft, there's no way. There's no way. Caleb Downs, Alabama, Ohio State, we know about this guy forever. Next to even cities, one of the best players. Like everybody's, everybody's known him. He's in that position. No, Patricia told me he is face of the franchise and the second he walks in their building, the smartest player on the team. 100%. All that stuff. And I hear all of it. But I'm also old enough to remember when Derwin James didn't go on the top 10, when Kyle Hamilton didn't go on the top 10. The last year, Nick, even Wari went in the second round. Yeah. McKinney went in the second round, branch went in the second round. Like, I can go through all these guys who were selected much further past where they were rated. It's just, it's a weird thing about the draft. It ends up happening this way. So in this case, I think this is where that slide would stop. And I think the Cowboys would be elated to bring him out of the mix. I love it. That's great pick. That's it. They need defensive help. And he's the best defensive leader at a value. And you can move him around. He's going to be the nerve center, like you said. He's going to be able to, he could, he could do the signals, everything. Their new defensive coordinator is a 34 year old Christian Parker, who is a defensive backs guru. It makes sense. I like it. 13 overall Los Angeles Rams. This one obviously close to my, my heart. Everyone thinks I know who they're going to take. I don't know yet. I don't, and I have not had those discussions. Yes, that's that's Shrig's though. Yeah. I don't know yet. We're going to have our phone call tonight before. Yes, we will. They always do. No, it's very informative. 13th overall. This is a bit of a shake up. I'm looking at who's on the board here. With the 13th overall pick, the Los Angeles Rams, like Mackay Lemon at a of USA wide receiver. I just think he fits everything they're looking for. And this is not a deal with Puka. Honestly, it Puka is fully on board and everything's fine with Puka. And they still have Devonte Adams and the other side I'm still taking. Let me put it this way. Anyone projecting Tyson Simpson 13th, like, please stop. This is all about this year. And our other teams can say, well, we're looking long term like Matthew Stafford and Devonte Adams. They want to get these guys. Another shoeable first Stafford and one for Adams. And they are all in on this season. And that's why all the moves leading up to this point have been sacrificing first round picks for Trent McDuffey. And we all lemon can play right away. Fits their offense, fits their mold. And I just think he is the better fit for them than maybe some of these other wide receiver and tight end prospects that could be linked there. Yeah, I talked about him being a member of Cobra Kai because there's no fear in his dough Joe. Like he's just he is he works in the middle of the field. He does not gear down. He'll run to contact like he's not going to the fight. Eric, he are. He is so tough, man. He catches everything. Ironically, he's got small hands. You think he'd have 11 in his hands because he attacks the ball. Catches absolutely everything. When they tell you at USC, there was a time early on there, they played him at corner and they're like, he's our best corner. Like he's he's that type of a, you know, overall athlete, a football player. Now, not going to, you know, blow you away with the testing, but when you look at some of the elite players in this league at the receiver position and the Rams have one of them in the Bante Adams. They're four or five guys. Yeah, they are. That's how they do. It's Puka. Yeah. So this is, yeah, I love that pick. It fits them beautifully. And on the on the quarterback thing, look, there's they were one of the two teams that I've seen that I, you know, know about connected to Tyson Simpson for, you know, different reasons. They're one of those two teams. But the question is, where does the connection? Okay, well, then where do you feel comfortable pulling the trigger? Back when you have, when you have two first round picks and you're like, okay, we get something for now. And then 29, we may, we get something for later. Well, that's gone. So, you know, I don't, yeah, that would be tough. That would be rich. So I, I will get to it later, but Arizona is the only team that I have for him. I don't know. The landing spot and the Arizona's already gone at three. So their next picks at 34. We'll get there. All right. Baltimore Ravens going back to my old stomping grounds here. McKayle lemon is off the board. How many years you work for the Ravens? Four years there. Been a minute now. You start, you start realizing you're getting old when you're like, man, my last year was was 06 20 years. 20 years removed. That last year, oh, six. Oh my gosh. Who was it? Was he low? Was it? Hello? He was later. No, I was there. I was there when we picked a low. I was there three to six. And I think it might have been a low. Okay. That last pick. Yeah. But it was either 0 5 0 6 somewhere in that range. But all right. So now I've got some interesting options for the Ravens. You could go receiver. You've done that a few times. Could go in that direction. Jordan Tyson being kind of an explosive dynamic player could be in their mix there. You could make a strong case for Kenyans. The you know, you lose you lose two tight ends in free agency. Likely and Charlie Collar. Yep. Yep. So you've got a chance to really, you know, juice that up a little bit with Kenyans. The but I'm going to go I'm going to go with a boring pick here. And I'm going to go with Venga Yawane guard from Penn State, who I think about it. He's he's my number two overall offensive lineman in this draft. He's got the cleanest tape of any offensive lineman. Like you're talking about somebody at six four and change 320 pounds. Who's got torque and power. He plays with leverage. He can bend. They'll use them at tight end and some of their heavy sets to show you how athletic he is. Get out there in space. Drill dudes. You can watch the Oregon game. You watch him finish a guy 20 yards down the field just latch drive him 20 yards boom down you go. Like he is that's the type of temperament they need and that they've always appreciated there. I go back to the time when I was there when we picked Marshall Yanda and there's some Marshall Yanda to this dudes game. So I think this feels like a Ravens player. Inside interior offensive lineman going 14th overall, which leads to the template buccaneers at 15 going through the available players here. Bucks were really weak in the defensive backfield and they lost Jamel Dean. They have offensive linest shoes also. All right 15th overall, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Monroe Freeling offensive tackle out of Georgia. Let's go. He's a big boy. Obviously played a ton of games and has a ton of experience. I think he is an athletic specimen in what he is. The truth of the matter is you're talking about a guy who you're looking at that running back position and that you got a guy who's got a road graven. We got some ability to protect Baker. I don't know. Not a shocking pick. Not also one that's going to raise your hair back. But for Jason Lighten, those guys, let's just add pieces to protect our core back. Well, first of all, start off with the fact his mom's a yoga instructor. Don't bury the lead there. For an offensive lineman, that might be the best profession ever to have your mother to be a yoga instructor. You can tell he's very, very loose. He's very athletic. He played a lot this year. He had a lot of starting experience previously. So you're talking about somebody who's got years at Georgia and all that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But he's, you're hoping that there's, he's one of these ascending players. He got better throughout the year. I read some information. That means that if you're under the RAS score, like, yeah, the athletic score. Yeah. He's got 99. He got the highest one of tackles, you know? Yeah. When you're 67 and 383, 315 pounds and you're on 493 and you're athletic, you can change direction, all that stuff. He's got it. He has everything in his body. But it's just a little bit of a roller coaster ride when you're watching his tape. He'll get tugged and pulled and pushed around a little bit. But this guy, you know, I always talk about offensive lineman. You can see when you, when if you watch in tape and you see somebody strikes somebody, they say, this is like your hips, right? Yeah. When you, we see guys strike like this, right? It's just like this. And then you'll see like, go back to John Lynch and you'll see them. They can roll their hips into contact. You see with all the big time explosive athletes, their ability to roll their hips. This guy can do that. Like he has got some real snap and some, some limitess and looseness to be able to snap and roll his hips and get into guys. You can watch him like on combo blocks where he'll block down. Then you'll see him work up to a linebacker. Like it's all there is what I'm getting. It's kind of a long-winded way of saying he's not a finished product. But he's got the most in his body of any offensive lineman in his draft. Okay. I love that explanation, which leads to a very interesting selection for you. Number 16, the Jets with their second pick. We're saying they got David Bailey at two. If they get the pass rusher at two, who would the Jets select at 16? I've been looking receivers here for the Jets. And this is a tough one here. I could, you know, because I love the young tight end that they drafted last year. Mason Taylor was very good for them. Yeah. So I mean, my highest rated player is Ken Yenin said, "Deak, but that I'm not going to go in that direction." You've got two wide outs there. This is a case of, you know, who do you feel like is the best compliment to what you have? Garrett Wilson is a one. So I'm looking for somebody to compliment him. I know Jordan Tyson is, you know, a darling because he is very, you know, he's very dynamic player on tape. You can see it. He's got a talent, but he's been unavailable. And for a Jets team that has had some guys with injuries over the years and they've dealt with that, I don't think you want to do that. I think you want to put this ball as we're in Masters week right in the middle of the fairway. So I'm going to go with Omar Cooper Jr. out of Indiana for the Jets to spice up that receiver room. Someone who is very tough, someone who can work in the middle of the field and someone who is a beast after the catch. That's what he does best. I've been told to compare him to Debo Samuel when I make comparisons. He also had 13 touchdowns. So it's not a project. This guy could score. He's got a good goal. I don't know if anybody remembers there was a game against Penn State on anybody, remembers it all. Maybe a guy who just looked like he took the elevator up to the ninth floor to go hall in the game, winning touchdown from Fernando Mendoza to win on the road at Penn State. That was this dude. Yeah. I love that pick. I don't know if it's too early. You know, I don't know if the if the effect on him, like I think there's some people think he's going to go on the second round. That's what I've heard also and that's wouldn't shock me. But I'm fine with him. I'm going to margin. I'm talking about team needs and like what they're about and just building pieces and when you've got five picks in the top 45 or whatever they have, like you can maybe roll a dice on a guy a little earlier that's going to be a culture player and that's what he is. 100%. So again, that'll be interesting to see him in Tyson. I mean, I would Tyson's definitely going to be the favorite to go ahead of him. But that that Tyson's missed time every single year. He hasn't been healthy through this process. No, no, no. Higher. So, what is so dynamic, which is a great player. I know. But I just that's I'm I am condition to the way Ozzy Newsom used to always talk about it, which was hey, and in the first round, I'm fine with doubles off the wall. Like we're not we don't need to freaking swing from, you know, everything we got swinging for the fences here. Let's just let's make sure we get get something out there. He showed up last year at 390 pounds and then was able, it didn't play well early in year and then was able to get back into 350s and played well as the season went along. I feel hilarious about this because if you were to go through it, I believe that in, I will say over 90% of mocks that everyone just has them taking Dylan's thing and I've done the same thing. I think it's because you lost a white safety that was really athletic and good and we're going to just replace him with another white safety who's really athletic and good. So that's why it's been kind of going in that direction. I want to do something different, but I'm just, I'm having a hard time doing that. All right, I'm going to, I'm going to do it. The Dallas Cowboys and this is, this is the bummer of it all because right now I have my best player available is McNeil Warren, but I already had to take into safety with Caleb Downs. Yes he did. That sucks. Let's see here. Freelings gone. I will go. Look and see what else we got here. Looking at them. Corners. I don't love the the marriage of what's left here and what they're looking at. I have Colton Hood as my 25th player. So it's not a best available situation, but the fact you've got the safety taken care of and down to Colton Hood. This was the big liability for the Dallas Cowboys. So I like the fact we've kind of attacked this need here. So we go safety Caleb Downs and Corners, which was Colton Hood, who by the way without McCoy on the roster last year was actually awesome. That's the number one in Tennessee. It was excellent. He can play inside outside. Downs, you can move around. Now you've got to, like you said, the defense coordinator with a secondary background and you give them two fun chess pieces here. Okay. 21 is the Pittsburgh Steelers and they're so old on defense. And I'm looking at their depth chart. And it's like, yeah, they just moved Jalen Ramsey to safety. So I guess they're set at safety. But are you at it? I don't know. And then like past Russia, while they brought back Cam Hayward. So they're set, right? And they got 2j1. But are you, like, those guys are not young. So I'm going to go defense. I'm going to say at safety, the 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers select a manual McNeil Warren safety leader. Yeah, I'm a fan. You don't have to, you don't have to sell me on that one. I'm a McNeil Warren guy through and through. That leaves me with the chargers. It's you are the radio voice of. Yeah. And a lot of the guys that we've talked about with them are gone. I talked about banging you want to be in a pick. They were talked about Kenyans to Deek. I would think. And that would obviously light up get up first take in the first segment we do on Friday morning is what does that mean for AJ Brown? Yeah. So when that plane drops him off, are they also picking somebody up to go elsewhere? Is that how that works in Philadelphia? That's what they do. You know, I don't think it's a long flight from Philly to New England. I don't think that's a that's too long of a flight there. It hasn't happened yet. Yeah. I don't know. Just a thought. All right. That's a fun one. You've just got yourself some news there. So I am I'm Cleveland 24, right? So Cleveland, we talked about receiver tackle. So they went with carnal tape early. We're going to come back and I know there's a lot of talk about right tackles in this draft and they need a left tackle. But you saw, you know, Andrew Barry talking about the fact that they've moved rights to left and left to right. They don't think it's that big of a deal anymore. So they kind of view tackles similarly. I'm going to take at this point in time, I'm going to go with Blake Miller, the tackle out of Clemson 54 starts. He's a wrestling background. I love that. He's got long arms. He's he's played a ton of football, like I said. He's just a steady Eddie consistent player. And I think when you look at this team and being able to add a guy that's just dependable reliable, I still like him at right tackle. You move some things around in that offensive line if you had to. You can I think he could hold up at left tackle if you want to do that. But that will be my selection here for them. I like what they've done. Now obviously they brought in a bunch of new names in here to this offensive line. Howard will stay that right tackle initially. We'll see if he can compete and hold up on the left side. But he's just a good player. All right. So wide receiver offensive line. Okay. I like that. 25 the Chicago Bears. Some needs as well. They great. See I'm going to go Caleb Lomu offensive tackle out of Utah. Empty the bag on Lomu just a little bit as everyone's talking about Fano as teammate. Yeah. That's interesting. You have these guys going next to each other. I have Blake Miller is my 19th player. Lomu is my 26th player. You've got these guys freely as my 20th player. All these tackles are kind of very closely. In proctor in there too. Yeah. Proctor. Yeah. Proctor is right in there as well. Proctor is number 22. So all those guys are in the mix. Lomu is a left tackle. He's got excellent size. He's over 636313 pounds. He runs well. He ran 499. He's got really good athleticism. It's just a core strength issue for him. He's got to get stronger in his core. He gets pushed and pulled a little bit too much. So that's something you're going to work on with him. But really excellent. Getting out in space, working up to the second level. The big thing is just we got to get a little bit stronger in our core. Next up. Honestly got here. 26. Lomu Bills. All right. Let's see what we got here. Buffalo Bills. I am, we've got Jordan Tyson has gone. Okay. I have manners. It starts getting interesting here. Do I just give him another weapon here for Josh Allen? Real big. He plays above the rim. Excellent in the red zone. Think about some of those games late in the year for Buffalo to be able to have a guy down there that's got a big catch radius that can go up and get it. This is a guy compared to Cortland Sutton when I watched him take power through press He can adjust and traffic. I just wrote down the last thing I wrote on him is like he's a point score Like this guy is going to produce touchdowns. So let Khalil Shikir get all that you know run after catch do all those things DJ Moore is gonna be fun in that offense and now you add that big power forward on the outside Who's gonna be what you were hoping? You had with someone else on that roster that that had a little bit of a rough ending there. Yeah Nine years 27 so many injuries. So it's hard to like look at their roster and say based on production last year They're getting a lot of guys back I'm just looking at a player who hasn't been selected yet on my board who I think very highly of And he played a lot of football. I'm going a keen messador out of my Ends of end. I know that's not necessarily their number one need But to me if he's in there at 27 you get a great pass rusher and that guy can do that Yeah, he's my highest rated player at this point time 23rd overall. So just just check him right off the list and someone who again can kick inside Like his teammate and Bane and can rush over guards if you want him to do that as well. So I like that pick Houston is next up at 28 All right Houston. Let's see what we got here We could man there they're in a pretty good spot roster wise man This is a classic trade down pick here I mean they don't even it's just is it the Thai Simpson spot Wow, that is that that's an interesting. Why have you heard that at all? I haven't Man Trying to see what else they would look for here. I would cause a little something if they did I Mean they could just continue to add this defensive line. It almost feels gluttonous at that point in time You know they have so many guys on defense all three levels They added they added pieces along that offensive line This is the first one that we're doing that I'm literally doing it. I'm gonna pull up their debt chart because I gotta look at them here. I'm time out. Call him time out because this is a Tough one Because earthery they like played well last year they brought over Braden Smith. I don't think that's the long-term answer there Why it tellers not to be around forever? I mean you could make a case for just taking the best offensive lineman. Yep But you've get tanked out back a receiver to go with Hagen's and Nico Collins and you still got Jalen Noel who they like They got tons of white house. Oh really good roster Yeah, it's a really good roster and you bring over David Montgomery to go along with Woody Marx Like they're in a position where I think they really could just take the best available player All right, I'm gonna the rich get richer here. I'm gonna take TJ Parker Edge rusher out of Clemson Like it like it Parker very Very well regarded amongst NFL as far as like person on a grow. Yeah, he's a pro and On that note I go to 29 with the Kansas City Chiefs. I have them taking an Offensive lineman with their first pick. I would think they would want to get either a threat You know what 29 is interesting for the chiefs here because a lot of the guys I would think would be Perfect for them are off the board and I don't think they want a project. All right. Here's this one fun one 29 Kansas City Chiefs is a Spencer Fano with the ninth pick which what we have them doing I am going to say the Kansas City Chiefs at 29 take KC concept seal. I was gonna be my next pick Texas a&M who Dynamic as heck. Yes, also can help you in the special teams game He is a very good player and he was gonna be my guy Coming up next here. I honoured shore Tackle out of Arizona state my favorite stories in this draft just quickly empty the bucket on who he is Yeah, this dude grew up in Nigeria Moved the US when he was 13 did not play high school football And it a playing junior college and then out of junior college he gets to Arizona state And then just kind of gets better and better through his time there to the point where he gets to the senior bowl And you watch all the lineman come out you're like dude this Arizona state kid looks different than everybody else out here Like this is how you would create an offensive lineman and a lab like it is the perfect offensive line body He's almost six foot six three hundred twenty one pounds. He ran four nine one This guy's again raw as you can imagine he's so new to football But that this is someone who's got an immense amount of talent and in a timeline player right I always look at timelines when you're looking at where these guys go This is not a Miami Dolphins team. It's gonna win a Super Bowl next year Now playoff team like let's just build. Let's just get a talented offensive lineman We'll figure out where we want him to play But we've got a nice piece of clay here at the mold I love that pick and I have I would think he's in that same range and I do my mark draft I have Houston Tech and him and the same kind of thing like hey, we've got a lot of good players Does roll the dice that's fine. All right, by the way I'll go on to this exercise. It's fun because when you really get down here to the bottom like Houston is the one team where I'm like that team stack We're loaded they're in they're in a really good spot loaded And then a team like Miami which is next you look at their roster and it's like oh that was a Super Bowl, but they're not loaded Yeah, like they're banking on a lot of young guys 31 New England Patriots. I'm gonna take um some journalistic liberties here and just say that I have your top 50 in front of me And I got a name last week and I was like all right all out of the list But you added them into your top 50 and now I'm gonna put them all the way in the first round 31 New England Patriots select Keelan Rutledge offensive guards That's what we're doing. This is not quite as shocking as Cole Strange going in the first round But I don't think I've seen Rutledge's name anywhere in the first round But I 31 and the offensive line guys seemingly going off the board That's my pick. What do you say? So what I did my last before I did my last update in my top 50 I got asked this question which had not been asked to the process which was Forget where they're gonna go. Who is your favorite player in the draft like who just who's your favorite player So I'm what I go and throw all the names everybody I'm like I like this guy like this guy and I was like you know what I think Keelan Rutledge is my favorite player in the draft Yes, so and by the way, I remember this is going back to when I was in Baltimore We had a ceremony with the end of the draft process where you put a red star on a player Which is what this basically is like you get one guy put your red star on him And I go back in back in time when I went to Fresno State and fell in love with this offensive line my name Logan Minkins And Logan Minkins was my red star So we're kind of connecting all the dots here Favorite player Keelan Rutledge so Keelan Rutledge tell you a little bit about him here Plays right guard. He's six. He's almost six foot force 316 pounds. He ran 505. He's got a tremendous anchor. He's got a you know, you try and bore us him just forget it He is a strain to finish guy You'll see him to cleat linebackers like literally pick him up off their feet put him down He's ultra nasty always looking for work if he's uncovered and nobody's over his nose He's gonna go hunt somebody down and get somebody like he you watch the Georgia game as their rivalry game 20 yards down the field finishing dudes like he is he's got play temperament again that I'm I'm all in on that Play temperament. I love it. I'm a big fan. So Seattle last pick here They have four pick shrugs. They're gonna trade I would imagine they'll trade out here to get some extra picks I would think that would make the most sense to me with them Could go in a couple different directions here if they stick and pick I'm gonna take all right Let's let's get another new name in the mix here. I'm gonna give them Chris Johnson Corner from San Diego State with 30 second overall pick all right tell me about him because I don't see him at anyone's first round Real sturdy and strong like the question was gonna be what does he run? He's got great instincts. You watch the cow game. You'll see pick six like they blew the doors off cow Everybody's talking about their young quarterback and how hot he was a really the year San Diego State put it into that real quick And he was just he's always been a productive playmaker. He's one of those kids too that had tons of money in the portal If you wanted to leave but just stayed at San Diego State Just uh, you know again sturdy strong. He's got ball skills. He's smooth He can play with excellent awareness. He's a reliable tackler Really the only question was the pure speed when he goes out of the combine runs for four flat So he kind of alleviated that and I think he got the chance to go from maybe the Fortieth pick to the chance maybe go in here with the 30 second overall pick. Okay, so we just finished all 32 and Congratulations to us. We did it. That was great I'm not gonna go through it all if you're listening you went through it all One big question and I will give my monologue on it and then you can respond Ty Simpson doesn't go in the first round in this exercise I have two major mistakes over the last Five years one Shador Sanders last year where I didn't have a team And I just threw him to the Steelers because I was trying to satisfy Million thoughts in the head and it's like they need a quarterback Rodgers isn't there Tomman's apparently spoke highly of him and And no one from Pittsburgh told me that he was going there and I just went with it anyway. And I regretted it because it's like, I didn't have the courage to just put them in the second round or even later, which would end up happening. The other ones will levice. I didn't have a single person telling me that like levice is a first round pick. We love them. And yet I was like, he'll go quarterbacks go. I'm not going to make the same mistake here. I'm not going to force Ty Simpson to a team and create a trade or maybe say this thing. You could like Ty Simpson and still say, I just don't have a team for him in this year's first round. That said, it's not a first round of Blue Chip guys. Is this not the perfect year for some team to say screw it? Let's roll the dice and take Ty Simpson. What do you make of the whole Ty Simpson? But all we don't have him going in the top 32. Yeah, I haven't had him going in the first round any mocked draft. So I've just never, I've never put him in there. Again, it's about finding a home. I couldn't find a home. And when I go through the list of teams, I just kind of, the only one that I feel good about is a fit is Arizona. And unfortunately, they're picking third. Now, I'll say that I've been on the stage when Trevicki went and we did not think he, there was any chance he was going to go that high to the airs. Oh, well, yeah, but I mean, I'll even go to Blake Bordles, you know, there was talking him like late first, early second round. So what I'm getting at is we've been surprised before, not saying we won't be surprised again. And that's the team and to me, it feels like his Arizona and they pick 34th. So I mean, they could sit there and hold their water and figure out who to water. You could sit there and say if the jets aren't going to take him at two and 16, are we really paranoid that they're going to take him at 33? So then we can just sit right where we are at 34. He's there. We take him. That's where, and he's my 38th overall player. So at that point in time, too, I think there's, that's where the value lies. So it's, it's always, I always, I'll say this. And nicely, the, anybody, well, we're all talking about all this stuff, right? When, when you can say, this is the first round or that's a second round. I'm like, unless you start stacking him and you rank players and you say he is, he's in this range and then this is the team that's going to take him. You can't just say blank it. Lee, this is a first round pick. Like you have to have gone through the entire process to do that. So I don't have a home form, but not saying I don't like him. I just, I can't find the right fit there. It's also the nature of the draft where the Arizona State tackle, who is a pure projection pick and is someone who's just learning football would go over Ty Simpson, who was basically born in the crib with a football in his hand from his dad. But that's just the draft and it's needs and it's size and it's all of it. And sorry, it might be that way. Yeah. Now, again, and it's not, you love him. You hate him. We're just trying to find the home and, you know, it's, that's the, that's the spot for me as Arizona. So we'll see. DJ, I think this is our like seventh annual exercise of doing this first week of April. We always do it. I thought this was the best one yet and I appreciate you doing it. You're a busy man. We went through one to 32 and I think there were some surprises there. But overall, I would look at that NFL draft and say, okay, that seems about right. It was fun. We got some new names in there. If not the, you know, I'm going to be a little bit more than I do. I'm going to be a little bit more than I do. That's something that you're not going to see anywhere else. And then, Kaelin Rutledge, a guard center out of Georgia Tech, potentially going as early as the first round. I think Tyson out of Arizona State ends up going a little higher than what we had here. But if the Eagles were to take Jordan Tyson, you better believe the Dominoes that would fall. And then of course, the media reaction would be explosive. Fun mock draft. It's what we do.
