2025 YEAR END FILM & TV DRAFT

The Yonko Table podcast hosts its second annual draft to close out 2025, with six participants selecting the best in film and TV across six categories: favorite film, TV show, film scene, TV episode, leading performance, and supporting performance. Dr. Rika acts as commissioner, explaining the snake draft order and rules, which prevent any selection from being reused across categories. The group first shares letter grades for the year, with film receiving mixed grades (C to B+) and TV ranging from C to A. The draft begins with Grandmaster Hoop choosing the iconic film scene "I Lied, You Sinners" from *Sinners*, widely praised as a transcendent moment. Subsequent picks include Amy Madigan’s chilling performance in *Weapons*, *Superman* as a fun film choice, the climactic scene from *K-Pop Demon Hunters*, and *Overcompensating* for TV. Dr. Rika selects Tiana Taylor’s supporting role in *One Battle After Another*, while others pick *The Pit*, *Thunderbolts*, Timothée Chalamet in *Marty Supreme*, *Severance*, *Andor*, *Frankenstein*, *Black Bag*, *White Lotus*, *Hacks*, and *Wicked: For Good*. Throughout, the conversation is lively and opinionated, with debates on *Stranger Things* and *One Battle After Another*, and a recurring theme of embracing joy and whimsy in media. The draft highlights diverse tastes, from horror and superhero films to queer romance and international cinema, making for an engaging and spirited year-end review.

There once was a man named Gold Roger who was king of the pirates. He had fame, power, and wealth beyond your wildest dreams. Before they hung him from the gallows, these were the final words he said. Our perspective is yours for the taking, but you'll have to join us first. We left everything we debated at the Yonko table. Ever since, pirates from all over the world set sail for the Grand Line, searching for the Yonko table, the table that will make their dreams come true. Yo! Yo, yo, yo, yo, folks. Welcome to the latest and the greatest from the Yonko table. That is the voice of Grandmaster Hoop coming at you on this year, January 8th. We are here to close out 2025, and we are bringing back the second annual Yonko table. Annual draft. And that's right, folks. We'll be going ahead and drafting the best of the best of 2025 in film and TV. This idea comes from one of our own. It's Supernova Dr. Rika's baby, and she's here to lead us in this draft as our commissioner to close out 2025. So I am going to hand the reins to her. She's going to explain the rules. She's going to explain the order. And without further ado, when she's done, we're going to get into it. So, Dr. Rika, if you would. Yes. Well, welcome back. We have a full house. Last year, we had four. This year, we have six. So as Grandmaster Hoop was sharing, we are drafting both film and TV. We're going to review 2025. And actually, before I get started with sharing the rules, I just want to get like a temperature check on how folks felt about film and TV. With just a letter grade. We're going to talk about so much content, so much art over the course of however many hours this is. And so I just want a letter grade. A through F. You can use plus and minuses. We'll start with film. How are folks feeling from 2025 about film? B. Ooh, I'm going to go C. Ooh. I would say B minus. Ooh. I don't know. I think I'm going to give it a B plus. I feel like it was a lot better than. Some of the COVID years that we've had. And I think for me, it's just going to be a solid B. I, too, am a solid B. Ooh. TV shows. A through F. C. A. Ooh, I almost said plus, but I'm going to hold off. I'm going to give it an A. Good year for TV. I would give it C. I think I'm going to give it a B. And I'll round out with a C, unfortunately. Okay. All right. We know where you guys are going to be slacking in the draft, so that's okay. Oh, no, no, no. Cs still have some degrees, so it'll be okay. I will say for TV, so my letter grade for TV was like an A minus. Dang. Yeah. Well, rules of the draft. You guys just don't watch enough TV. So we will be, the draft order, I'll share that first. All six of us will be making selections throughout in six different categories. And so we'll be drafting in our favorite film of the year, our favorite TV show, favorite film scene, favorite TV episode, our favorite leading performance, which can occur in either film or TV, as well as supporting performance in film or TV. Once something is selected in any category, film, TV show, et cetera, it cannot be selected in any other category. So should. So Wicked, for good, be selected in film. There is no other category that it can be selected in, whether that be film scene, lead performance, supporting performance. I use Wicked because I think I used Wicked last year as the example. So trying to stay consistent. I don't know what I'll do next year. Order. So we are doing a snake draft. It'll be one through six and then reverse from six to one and back again until we're done. So our order for today. Grandmaster. Hoop, Dr. Mondo, Miss Mad, Hooper TV, D'Arce, and Dr. Rika. So we're just going to go ahead and get started because we're going to be talking about 36 different things over the course of our time together. What I will say and encourage is leaving time for the person that selected it to share what was so special about their selection. We can chime in on what we appreciate it and maybe even share. Maybe if we were. We're potentially going to select that in a different category, what we would have selected it in. And then, of course, you'll be sharing your own selections as we go throughout. So Grandmaster Hoop, you start us off. What is the number one draft pick for 2025? All right, let's get it popping. I know this is probably everybody had to make backups for this one because they knew it was going to be taken. But funny enough, I just switched what I was going to put this under. Give me for film scene. Give me a lie to you, sinners. Sammy Preacher Boy. Somebody take me and give me that awe-inspiring musical scene. And then that's the moment it hits you in the film that this is art. This is a work of art. This. This is cinema. So give me I lie to you, sinners. The only correct first choice. That was it. There was like literally nowhere else you could have gone. Sinners for a movie wasn't the correct answer. Michael B. Jordan's performance wasn't the correct answer. It is that scene in the film scene category is the only route you could have gone. So I applaud you, Grandmaster Hoop. I thought you would get crazy with some K-pop Demon Hunter stuff. You did not. You stayed strong and went with the right choice. Well done. Thank you. Yes. I'm in agreement. That is the correct first choice. I was thinking film, but I was like, I don't know if I have another scene that is as pinnacle as that scene for 2025. So I had to do it. Had to do it. I would have roasted you the entire 2026, the rest of the year, if you had done anything else. So well done. What were people's first reaction? Seeing the scene like in theaters. I saw it 70 millimeter on film on the big screen. Oh, you're one of the lucky ones to see it in 70 millimeters. Okay. Me too. I saw it twice, that particular weekend. I saw it twice. I went back and after, but what were folks' first reactions seeing that particular scene? I levitated. It was magical. I got chills. Unreal. Yeah. Goosebumps. Like. Yeah. I mean, like amazing scene, absolutely amazing scene. And it's like, yeah, definitely that was, I think the majority of people's number one. I was just like, yeah, of course that's when film scene of the year came in. That's the first thing that comes to my mind immediately. Then there's some other scenes, right? But that is the first scene. Yeah. I feel like a lot of, I feel like a common film criticism or TV show criticism is like when a scene or something, maybe it's like a storytelling choice, like takes you out of it. Like takes you back out of reality. Like makes you think about like what you're actually watching. That scene in particular, just like, at least for me, took me to a different plane. It like, it took me out of my own body. It took me out of like the theater. It took me out of like sinners. And I just entered like this, this trans like state of mind where it's just like, where am I, what am I watching? Like what's going on? And like the most beautiful. The ways it was unreal. I will say I was close to, I was thinking, I was like, it has to be lie to you. But I also really liked the Rocky road to Dublin sequence to, um, just two great scenes elevated by the music of the film. Uh, so shout out to all the artists on that and Ludwig for centers. Um, but that is the moment in the film. Um, where, yeah, you feel elevated and it just feels, I feel it went up two leagues in that moment. Like the moment you see that they are starting to incorporate the different eras of genres of music and of different cultures too. That's when it became next level. Like I like, I've been thinking about it a lot lately and I'm like, I like when I can take something from a film or a series and I took a lot from it. And I'm like, yeah, I'm going to take a lot from that. And by the end of the movie, I think it all made sense. So, yeah, it, yeah, it had a great, yeah, I like it, but it would lose in them. We are losing them. I'm sure you're saying really wonderful things about this particular scene. We're not going to wait on him. So when he's back, sure, sure, sure. Are you back? No. Are there other scenes from centers? That. That folks just want to shout out while we're on the film. So other scenes that really were impactful, other categories that this could have. have been selected in and another world without the scene the obvious choice is michael b jordan and lead performance other obvious choices sinners overall and movie i could definitely seen those respectable selections if that scene didn't exist yeah definitely sinners is my number one movie of the year so well thank you grandmaster uh and i think definitely like michael b is like on that list for sure as one of my leads miss man were you gonna share something i was gonna say unfortunately i know i was on the pod for sinners but i really i didn't know uh michael b jordan was playing twins so the scene at the very beginning where it pans from like one and you see another the like the shock in my head and like the whole like what's happening was was great too but that's probably for me personally because i went in not knowing so blind yeah oh you didn't know oh that's funny i i probably need to go back and listen to our sinners pod which we have a sinners pod folks um that's a good conversation i think we talked like two hours plus on sinners yeah that was good that was a good one you could talk even more uh i think i think you can you can measure how much we like the movie how much like how much of an impact they got by the length of a pod i mean there are there are different conversations going now be an award season um yeah but let me not get into that that's uh maybe another pod come post big awards so last thing i'll share before we move on to our next pick um and i think there was maybe a recent article that talked about this particular scene and i think it was a recent article i would have picked i lied to you from this film but um the scene in the car when they're on the way to the juke joint uh and delroy lindo's character is just discussing um the lynching of a friend and just like the history of blues and all of that like that felt like really impactful i think if there's not this like big risk-taking scene uh which you may hear about a little later on from one of my subscribers um what i really really appreciate is something that feels really grounded and emotional um and so that could have been at least for me and some of my tastes a selection as well and i think folks are kind of discussing that a lot more because delroy maybe isn't getting as much love as he deserves this award season so we're gonna keep it moving because we got a lot of selections dr mondo hit us with your first pick my first pick for supporting role in film i think i'm gonna go with amy madigan whoa wow weapons is out of there what a choice and way to take weapons off the board okay from weapons it's like god damn it she like she was just so freaky so scary grace my girlfriend's right here listening to this pod she was traumatized by gladys it's funny like also just like the movie in itself like she just added so much to that movie and i think i'm also like a tangent this was a great year for like original horror uh because there were so many i'm not a horror movie fan and some of my favorite horror movies sinners is there kind of it's like war horrors this uh so amy madigan absolutely killed it she actually won if i'm not mistaken right the critics the critics yeah critics choice i think very well deserved and i hope to see her nominated at least for the golden globes or the oscars uh she's got a golden globe nom right i think so oh like i i didn't know that the nominations came out of the oscars are not out yeah the oscars weren't out i didn't know the golden globes were out okay perfect hope she gets the oscar nomination because really she that was her performance was chilling like it was so freaky i was just like disturbed by her so disturbed so weapons that was on my list for both film and for for amy madigan performance and i will say golden globes are on sunday so folks are trying to check in and see who wins um definitely thought weapons would last a little longer i thought so you have it as your background i know i thought there i didn't think it was gonna last two picks um you know um but yeah no weapons was great definitely one of my favorite movies of the year one of my favorite theatrical experiences um i was terrified um i laughed way more than i laughed oh yeah the movie like it's hilarious yeah but it's so and honestly like even in scene like the scene where she just like stopped like she parked her car in front of the house and you just see the door open it's like and she just gets in the car she doesn't realize oh for our audio listeners we're uh we're doing scissor motions um for oh my god that that like that scene well i was i was so stressed yeah yeah i would i would also say i was between as far as ago the final running bit oh with all the children yeah so cathartic so cathartic because the big spoilers for weapons i guess um you know it's for all of 2025 yeah exactly um you haven't caught up yet you're it's too late um because the movie opens with like a line saying um a lot of people died and you know the movie is about a bunch of children disappearing so you're almost like tricked into believing it's like wow they're gonna kill some kids in this movie um and so by the end when you realize like oh all the kids are going to survive as traumatized as they might have done might have been uh and then they get their kind of validation uh when they run after amy madigan um i don't know just seeing that felt so good um what a ride that movie was just like running over every fence every house just like it it was fun it was so funny i think that that movie did such a great such a great job of mixing in that like really like or all that morbidness with that comedy that like the dark comedy right there it's just like okay blood and gore and i'm just laughing right here okay the physicality and the practical effects lends well to that scene and the whole movie definitely yeah i really loved the kind of the the chapter by chapter of being able to follow one specific character through what their perspective was and then following up with the next character and i was just about to look it up but i started talking before i did um but the kid who is like in one of the last chapters what a great kid performance oh uh did he get nominated for young and critics or no um i'd have to i'd have to double check but he was great yeah he was good he was really good um but what an original film i really liked i may have shouted out um barbarian in a previous pod um which was the the director's um first feature um that kind of made it big and so super excited about weapons enjoyed weapons it's a great pick uh as far as amy madigan uh which is on my list so okay shall we keep going uh yeah yeah let's uh oh he did get nominated for best young uh carrie christopher as alex he was great yeah he was he was oh god i felt terrible for him all right miss mad hit us with the third pick all right i'm definitely super conflicted because you know there's some some pretty good stuff but i guess for me and my own personal preferences i really did enjoy uh hate to say it superman i don't know if anyone agrees it's number three i i put it on my list wait yeah for movie oh i put it there too i love that i love superman there goes superman yeah i mean for me it was just it was so fun and looking at my other options i think it's the most fun i've ever had because i do think i've i've been going for deep cuts that i don't think but i could be playing this whole game wrong but i'm proud and i like superman so i feel safe putting it as a number three pick in my movie category i want you to know one of my dark horse picks for supporting performance was nicholas holt wow i was hoping i was like oh people wouldn't have gotten to superman i have other performances i liked more but i was like if i'm number six which i am but i really like superman i think um i remember calling my dad after he's a huge like comic book fan it's kind of fallen off on recent films lately uh um and just said like when this hits hbo max just watch it like i know you're not gonna go to the theater right now but just like watch it and he called and was like it felt like watching a saturday morning cartoon and so yeah it was fun and comic-y and bright and also like you know tried to like pull on some heartstrings but it also felt like real world relevant at the same time you know so i think it's a good yeah i enjoyed what they did yeah uh when we did the superman pod at the time because fantastic four had not come out but we were very much on the hill of death superhero film of the year at that time and i think superman still reigned that even after we did because when we did the fantastic four pod i think we said yeah um yeah no superman was really good uh james gunn did his thing and i would agree it is it felt very much like a saturday morning cartoon it felt very comic bookies uh we kind of got away from the the the gritty dark tones of the dc eu and zach snyder but we've also gotten more you know joy and like kind of that childhood purity uh that's i think that's kind of what we want to do and i think it's going to be a little bit of a little bit of an up and down but i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down but i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and you know i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little bit of an up and down and i think it's going to be a little surprises yeah all i have is deep cuts because i expect nothing to go my way so all righty hooper tv wow unreal i'm so upset because i have a feeling but go well here's the thing i thought i knew how this draft was gonna go and it's not gone the way i thought it was gonna go and so i feel like i'm in a position where there are some kind of clear obvious selections i could make um but i'm trying to and i this could be this could be my draft right here i could blow it right now um but i think i'm gonna roll the dice dr rika scares me on the turn um in terms of where she might be going but i don't know i'm i'm scared but i'm gonna do it i'm gonna do this scaredly and i'm gonna go with none of them none other than uh this is what it sounds like wow wow um the ending of k-pop deep and hunters i just think is a truly magical culminating moment um i find it super um uplifting super uh engaging i think the way it takes its themes and brings it all together in such a magical uh fun song way uh i don't know that scene just ruled for me and i think i was enjoying the movie it felt like uh three three and a half and i feel like when that song hit it went up to a four that's the song i can't stop playing that's the song whenever i'm like city biking down a hill that's the one i want to listen to partially because i think the music's really good but also because that scene in particular when you know they accept their scars and the team comes back to life and they're like oh my god i'm gonna die i'm gonna die i'm gonna die together and they defeat the demons they build the new whole moon and they just bring it all together and defeat grimoire game you're not real you know when that guy is taken down um i think that was one of the best movie scenes of the year and i'm gonna go with it i'm gonna stick with it and we're gonna see if i end up regretting it very shortly after you didn't even use sacrifice yo i'm sorry like there's so many scenes in that movie that i freaking love also i love the saja boys i'm just like i'm the toxic guy that loves your idol that entire scene is like that entire movie is amazing it's in my top movies of the year period like i'm obsessed with that movie like i thought one of you guys were gonna take it i did not i planned on it later you can see grandmaster hoops uh dance of 2020 learning soda pop in my apartment exactly how did you how could you guys not take it sooner because i had to take sinners it was probably i was probably going to take it for film for sure um but yeah beat me and i was going to choose what it sounds like because it's better than golden it's better than golden and um i disagree the best one is your idol i will stand by that but i personally but what it sounds like it's amazing all the songs are amazing all of them i'm putting it on record because i feel like i've just been whispering about this uh what this what i'm gonna botch the title now what it sounds like this is what it sounds like no what it's no it's what it sounds like yes what it sounds like reminds me of an iconic pop song that i grew up with and that kind of just has affected my enjoyment of that song and so i prefer golden hate to be that person yeah i heard that iconic pop song and yeah they have similar chords however k-pop demon hunters puts all iconic pops discography to shame with one soundtrack but it's too close for comfort for me it don't matter no everyone uh sound off in the chat if you listen to uh all night by iconic pop and then what it sounds like let us know your thoughts and feelings we don't care about iconic pop uh k-pop demon hunters will come and it will win grammys and oscars just you wait and i quote truth after all this time our voices all combine when darkness meets the light this is what it sounds like the lyrics in that entire movie and then that song specifically shout out to ej and her new song is amazing her new single oh i haven't heard it oh in another world it truly takes you to another world okay i will give she has my fandom i i did not know this was the direction uh you were going in so part of me is a little relieved uh because me and darts have different tastes so i except for me and darts have different tastes so i except for me and darts have different one thing which I feel like you know that we but overall we we tend to pick some some different things but um what I will say is uh I love k-pop in 2025 I went to six k-pop concerts um I did create a playlist of songs that sound very similar to uh songs from k-pop demon hunters from k-pop artists if folks would be interested I'm happy to share um BTS comes back this year I'm sat in March um they're gonna take my money for this tour I'm gonna be there front row oh so you're army I am diehard army okay okay who's your bias J-Hope okay who I did see last year in concert um but I loved k-pop demon hunters I had a lot of fun with it I thought it was really really fun to just see people kind of embrace something that I think got a lot of ridicule in some ways this is not the year of cringe we need to enjoy whimsy um things are real bad outside and on the news we need to embrace joy and I take my little light stick and I go to my little concerts and I sing lyrics that I don't sing very well and I have a good time and I have joy in my heart and I think everyone should experience that so I'm glad that people were able to do so in k-pop demon hunters as you should period thank you I have my little photo cards over here because I have a whole bag I haven't unpacked them you can't see it but when I went to my concerts they give out little freebies I don't know this life Dr. Mondo and I saw uh twice and they did and we're going to see them again in Dallas in like a few weeks oh y'all coming to Dallas we'll talk yeah yes I got my little photo card holders yes I'm about that life it's fun yeah like Grace and I are one single so what a great pick and don't let Dr. Rika fool you she's gonna go in a very different direction um it's your you're the only thing that can stop her from going in a certain way I feel like I know where she's gonna go and so now your pick it's totally fine you know we're gonna go in a bunch of different directions i have one quick clarifying question um movies that came out no no christmas no 2024 does that count no no enough dang it okay fine i just need to ask clarifying questions no you tried to do this in a different draft and i remember i know what was that nosferatu yeah no okay so i'm actually gonna go on the tv route and one of the tv shows that i really enjoyed we're gonna stick to that light-hearted tone um one that i had a good time watching one that kind of like represented the lgbtq plus community um i really enjoyed overcompensating so there's this was the year for a lot of gay tv to be honest with you um and overcompensating i thought was just so funny i really enjoyed the comedy i enjoyed the writing of it after i was done watching it i was like oh i'm ready for season two so um if that is on your list i'm so sorry but we're gonna be taking that out and that is my tv first tv is gone so funny is that i feel like this was a big year for um like late 20s like early 30s type comedy shows that were trying to fill like the gap that like girls and sex in the city did and you had like adults you had i love la and you have overcompensating and i had seen adults and i had watched i love la but overcompensating is the one i didn't get to so and i was kind of like i was like appreciative of those two other shows i thought they were fine borderline good um i was like let's see what they can do in the second season so you being really high on overcompensating makes me be like all right maybe i need to check out that one maybe that's the one i missed i did enjoy it a lot and when you're done watching it let me know you might just text me and be like darce this was trash how dare you but that's that's the that's the whole point of uh enjoying media is that we all have different opinions opinions on stuff right grandmaster uh sure opinions can't be wrong can you remind me uh what streaming service if we're compensating is on yes overcompensating can be found on amazon prime tv thank you i see a special guest star listed here for overcompensating i do like her i won't give her away um but i will say she probably adds to the soundtrack so i'll leave it at that so i like her i think owen teal was in that show and adults um he's been all over the place owen teal yep listed here yep yep i'll probably have to give it a watch this is the first i ever heard you talk about it um when you said gay tv i thought you're about to say heated rivalries um which i guess is still up on the board it's still up on the board because there's still film tv scenes you know so like you might be taken up next who knows but i just started somebody's pod dr rica got excited yeah i thought that's what you're gonna pick too i i know it's on my list it was like it was supposed to be like this like what could it be and then kind of like take a different route okay uh i get my pick i cannot believe it i cannot believe it i'm taking tiana taylor in one battle after another wow i cannot believe this number six lead or supporting okay fair fair supporting well done i am in shock i'm thrilled um wow so i have thought about taking it in film but i have some backup options there i was really like i was struggling um in certain categories because they were from other films that i knew would be taken up but this one specifically i was like i really need something for supporting that i loved um and i love a complicated character that people have feelings about and when this movie came out i gobbled up so many podcasts and articles that kind of talked about folks's like perspectives and critique on tiana in this film not necessarily like that she was bad in it she was great that's why i'm picking her but in terms of uh perfidia beverly hills as a character i love that i love complicated women i love just being able to kind of chew on something i think when uh myself and huper tv talked about tar a couple years ago i said the same thing um and so this was just like a wonderful performance um sorry people haven't seen it but she's in like the first like 40 ish minutes of the film and then chase infinity takes over maybe 15 maybe the first 20 oh in terms of just like her like what's happening in the film and the the impact and whatnot but she's not a lot in it a lot and then chase infinity takes over who's also wonderful was also potentially one of my picks but i was gonna take tiana first um the opening shot is pretty reminiscent of some things we've been talking about in the news over this last week we're gonna try to keep it light-hearted uh read the news folks uh but tiana's great uh she is such a force i love that she's kind of dipping herself into a number of different things whether that be creative direction for a number of different things or whether that's the kind of thing that she's trying to do with her life and i think that's kind of what she's trying to do with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life she's trying to do a lot of different things with her life video of beverly hills diana taylor was absolutely amazing like she really drives to a certain degree she really drives the movie uh every like everything happens because of her she is that firecracker in that movie um but yeah that was such a fun movie to watch like i saw i saw it the other day and i loved it really yeah i feel like hilarious like leo dicaprio it's like i like what time is it what do you mean dude i don't remember the code and it's just like that entire thing it's like dude it's been years just tell me where my daughter is that stuff was really funny and i brought up uh how little screen time tiana taylor has earlier because i think it's just a testament to like her performance it's like she shows up she's an absolute like explosion she's there she's just like completely draws your attention and then she's gone but you feel her presence the entire time like it's like everything about her and who she was uh influences the rest of the movie it influences leo's relationship with his daughter uh it influences chase infinity and how like she moves through the world and how she looked up to her mom and like her relationship with the mom she never met uh it influences everything with sean penn's character you know i mean sean penn's entire motivation tied to how his relationship with tiana taylor and despite her not being there not being on screen you you just get it because you're just like oh yeah that that woman who i saw in the first 15 minutes of the movie she would be like this earth moving like i changed my entire life around meeting her um because that's who she was uh i think it's really a great movie for supporting performances i'm really rooting for benicio del toro um supporting actor this year a lot of people on my list yeah a lot of people were big on sean penn i pretty much had like in supporting sean penn benicio yeah it's like and even like the name perfidia perfidia it like it is it is representative of what she does because perfidia in spanish means betrayal i didn't know that yeah perfidia means betrayal and that is exactly what she does in the movie it's such a good i didn't know that either as dr riga said a very complicated character she is very complicated she is not all good um she has a lot of a lot of gray um but you can't take her out you take can't take your eyes off her when she's on screen yeah my sadness to have cut benicio who i am also reading for um this award season but i'm committed for both my performances to be women so i was like had to be tiana i knew i knew one battle wasn't gonna make it past you oh yeah i'm on the hill that the movie's overrated just saying what uh what inspires that perspective oh i don't know i don't think i got i got it maybe he's just so pro sinners that he has to be anti one battle no i just i was like it's whatever i maybe a second watch will what did you didn't you watch it like on an ipad no but i watched it on hbo max do what you do what you do for marvel movies watch it a second time convince yourself to like it that's what you did with captain america it's just too much there not to like to not just connect to something i didn't say i didn't like it i said it's overrated you know what it is getting a ton of praise so i could get on board with like it's overrated you're kind of saying it in a very dismissive way but if you're saying it isn't the greatest movie of the 21st century as some people kind of are shaping it up as it is that i guess i think that might be fair but that doesn't sound like what you're doing i am letting it be known on this pod and because y'all just saying it it's praise that we are not all in agreement so okay and that's okay yeah just wanted our viewers to know we are not a part of one battle after another aficionados 100 and that is all right you're about to have another battle right now i like benicio i thought he was great i thought he was the best yeah i will say one of the scenes that i cut out as well that like the car chase scene uh the three cars over the hills a blast i was invigorated how much fun what a crazy scene yeah that was a beautiful oh the other scene that was great there when they arrive at benicio's like store that he's just like moving so chill it's like yo tell them to move come on let's go and like leo's just like dude like charging his phone everywhere he goes it's like come on bob get up get up it's like yeah we're safe bob it's like oh that your your guy just fell off the roof oh so benicio's performance is mesmerizing you know um if uh tiana taylor is like magnetic and like electric and all that good stuff like yeah like benicio the way he's moving just like the movie's like exploding around him and he's just kind of like at his own chill pace it's so beautiful and i absolutely love it it's hilarious yeah every scene he's on is so funny okay so i have the turn we're all going to our second picks this is hard because i've decided i will take a risk and whether or not i will appreciate this risk um we will find out for tv show as it returns for its second season this evening i am taking the pit yeah i knew that was coming i knew that was coming yeah that's a shame i'm taking i didn't realize you were a pit person miss matt i am a pit person i have some other options i really enjoyed tv this year it was always going to be the pit i was from day one i got on hbo max because i need to use it because i pay for it and so i was like i need to find something to watch and i have this chicken in this bowl and i'm gonna watch something and i want you to know that the trailer had come up and the first two episode dropped like whenever it initially dropped hooked i was all in can't believe it every single week every thursday tonight when we're done here i will be on my couch with some more chicken and i will be watching the premiere of season two i loved this show i had a lot of fun watching the premiere of season two i had a lot of fun watching the premiere of season two um i love these characters i can't wait to see mel again um yeah i just like i love uh any type of risk taking so the hour by hour situation per episode uh just the like yeah i had it's i'm all in i'll be here for this season i'll be here for it was renewed for season three people didn't see this i'll be there for next season two i don't know what's going to happen during this july 4th week i'm going to be there for season two i'm going to be there for season three i'm going to or day i guess i should say that they're covering uh probably a lot of firework injuries um and i'll see them all i love the pit there's a watch party in orlando right now for the pit and i should be there but i'm in texas so shout out to the pit i love you yeah shout out to the pit i just binged that whole season one in anticipation or getting ready for season two because i didn't watch it but it was honestly really captivating and i love medical dramas like gray's anatomy so i appreciated the spin and take that was like the hour by hour watch uh so that's that's the first wrench in my real plans that i had for this draft so thank you i'm kind of proud of that because you you do do deep cuts yeah that's that's crazy that you binge watched it because i watched episode one maybe eight episodes and i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my and i found it so yeah like intense and drama filled i like once it was done i had to like catch my breath and i was like whoo that show was a lot like i'm gonna circle back to this when i'm good and ready and i've yet to circle back um i have yet to go to episode two because that first episode really is a lot so um the idea of binging it all within a short period of time that's amazing to me well i think it's because gray's gray's anatomy is my comfort show and i don't know what that says about me but that's like comforting but something about it i don't know i'm captivated i always steer clear medical drama and medical dramas because i'm just like when i get home i don't want to think about the hospital so i'm just like screw this yeah i don't recommend it for you specifically granted i'm not a i'm like i'm not a er doc like my specialty it has wow it is nowhere near like the emergencies you see there uh but still i don't want to when i'm home i'm home yes i feel the same i don't watch any type of therapy psychology anything um so i understand but because i am a therapist and i'm not in the er i'm gonna watch the pit so i can't wait i can't wait to an hour from now or an hour or two but so that is my risk because there's some movies i probably should have selected and i didn't i feel like one in particular is falling right to my lap depending on where darce goes so and i was willing love you pit see you soon and i think cooper tv you're gonna be fine because i'm gonna go with something a little more sentimental to me just because i'm a super nerd um and i have to throw in a marvel movie in there um this one is gonna go for best film scene and i felt a lot of good emotions in this one and it was in the thunderbolts when they all ran over and gave him a hug because that's all he really needed i know it's like really sappy but like man did i feel those feels so i was like yeah this is this is it for me thunderbolts is great i loved it it was a great ride i had a fun time grandmaster i'm not a marvel hater i didn't say i love a marvel movie say anything didn't say anything i know you were thinking it i wasn't i was the only thing i was thinking was i liked fantastic four the best of the marvel entries this year but to darce's credit that scene is a good scene um it very it is kind of we don't need a beam in the sky big battle cgi big battle you know let's just hug it out he just needs a hug he needs the power of friendship it's grandmaster hoop i'll be there to hug you when you need a hug it's refreshing it's fine uh i like my beam in the sky it's fine but yeah i think that scene was just like it just like hit it was a lot of build up up until you know the very end and like what grandmaster hoop was saying like it was a different formula in the marvel plan where it wasn't a big cgi battle at the end it was just we're gonna rush into this and just spread the love so that's my pick for film scene okay i didn't put i didn't put it but yeah did nobody else have thunderbolts in there that's totally i honestly forgot about the thunderbolts i was like superman fantastic four do you mean the new avengers oh if you want to call it new avengers that's what the asterisk is for that's what we that was our trivia question yesterday whatever clever marketing we love florence pugh yes she doesn't know wrong she'll be in a couple things this year too so it'll be exciting all righty um hey all right i have a feeling i know what you're gonna pick but go ahead uh dr rica do you want to take a stab at what where i'm gonna go i feel like there's an obvious one yeah my guess is something to do with the movie i don't know if it's going to be a good movie i don't know if it's going to do with marty supreme you want to keep going um no i'll let you take it away oh miss mad seems disappointed in lead performance okay i have to go with timothy chalamet are you kidding me like what this guy this year i think he cemented himself as the guy i think for the last handful of years it's been like oh he's coming oh he's got next it's like oh he did wonders with wonka dune was awesome and i think this is the year where it's just like what do i want to say do i want to say he's like the tom cruise slash leo of his generation i don't know he's kind of like forming his own kind of identity in a really cool and interesting way in my opinion like the way he's doing press tours like leo never did press tours um you know it's just like he's his own person and it's awesome i think in terms of his generation of movie stars um let's say the ryan gosling class and younger um maybe austin butler is like in the jacob alordi i think it's timothy and a gap a huge gap a huge gap and then everybody else is competing for second i like austin butler i like jacob alordi i'm gonna go on record i think people who know this who know me know i'm all in on josh o'connor i love josh o'connor i love josh o'connor i'm all in on josh o'connor um but they're all competing for a far far second place like timothy is the man and i think what he did with the press tour for this movie and i think what he does in the film where he's asked to kind of control the camera the entire time from beginning to end and which is nothing but an exciting uh heart racing um anxiety inducing thrill ride uh i saw it with my long lost brother and my long lost sister over christmas break and they are aware of that during the movie i was like grabbing onto my head pulling my hair out like damn near sweating watching this movie because it's just so intense and timothy has the reins and he's at the center of it and he makes it pop in a way that i think it's very special so i gotta give it to him in lead performance yeah i gotta see you this weekend yeah i i saw it this past weekend um and i would be in agreement i actually recently had a conversation with some friends just about particularly like actors so actresses i think there's a lot of i would say anywhere from like early 20s to mid 30s options but the men there's a gap it's like timothy and then there's there's folks that are really talented i think david johnson is someone that i have my eye on and like dave johnson and but yeah beyond that there's not folks that really capture the same degree of like charisma but also how that film ends is not what i anticipated at all like after the anxiety and the hijinks and this high energy to have this and i won't spoil it at least for you dr mondo but there is a close-up and there is emotion and timothy can do the high energy hijinks and he's an actor he's also going to give you the emotion um i think he's great he's really really good likely the front runner this year for for lead actor um i had a lot of fun with this um there's some scenes from this film too that like likely could have selected i love the um there's a hustle scene um that was really great with tyler the creator yes yeah he's really good in the movie i was like yeah he's very good yeah um i also really enjoyed just the uh the showdown near the end is what i'll say um in terms but yes i thought it was great so there there's a lot to to just feel invigorated by in this movie and his performance like it is him that that makes it happen so great great pick absolutely great master who how do you feel about his performance he's concerned consistently good your favorite of the year uh no okay he's consistently good i'll give him that so and is this his greatest role i guess is it his greatest role um i would say just picked it all right greatest performance i don't know the movie itself is a little overrated his performance is better than the movie um it's just safdies they're they're chaos junkies so it's fine he's really good um i he is not my pick for best male actor of this year i'll leave it at that okay um yeah as i think about it i'm like it's my favorite performance of his bob dylan i don't know um i'm gonna have to chew on that yeah i wasn't much of a fan of that one but that was last year or the year before last year what whatever you know what i mean miss matt i'll take it away yeah i guess for uh my two cents on marty supreme i love the movie but i feel like the more deep that we like as a society in film talk about performances the more i realize i just need to check out of it but i don't know i don't know good when it when it hits you across the face but i thought it was a good movie but best performance that's a crazy conversation in my eyes to be having but i digress what do you got i digress for my next pick though yeah i'm going to pick something that you know the only way that i feel like it appropriately fits on the draft because that's my overall feelings towards it i'm going to go with a tv episode and i'm going to pull from volume one episode four of stranger things say the name please i honestly don't remember the name sorcerer and i know it because it was on my tv it was on my list that was on my list as well doesn't belong under show i woke up i believe i think yesterday yeah yesterday i woke up um like aggressively with a bunch of anxiety and i was like oh my god i'm gonna die i'm gonna die i'm gonna die i'm gonna die because i had a full dream believing that conformity gate actually did happen i don't know if you guys are following conformity oh like the that that basically episode eight is a lie no that episode nine is a thing more than episode eight is a lie but pretty much that's what my dream was that i already watched conform like episode nine and i woke up i was like no way is it real and it wasn't because that's that's how i feel about the ending i digress though uh episode four was so fun i don't know i loved i loved that this is where it ended and and you know kind of like also the belief of like what they were going to do with the rest of the season i feel like really impacted how you left that whole episode um because i did watch the episodes separately for the most part so it wasn't like i i watched almost one through four as like a movie it was standalone in my eyes and you know i just really i liked where the characters were going kind of like the the opportunity that they had and you know i mean will the sorcerer that was epic volume one is in a bubble is very good on its own and it culminated very well with that final sequence at the mac z and yeah that season belongs to will um and yeah quite a ride the whole season uh well that's the thing the drop off between volume one and volume two is so big um but fine volume one belongs to will and rightfully so and he earned that moment that moment was probably top five moments in all stranger things and that is the only good thing i got to say about season five man i have to agree man um i don't know uh for me i um i guess stayed up really late new year's eve and then woke up the next day to go watch the series finale so i don't know if i was just like really tired when i finally got around to watching it um but i found the final episode the series finale to be one of the most moving uh theatrical experiences i've had in a long time and i don't know if it's just that they have the power to flash back to when the kids were tiny um in their montages and that just like kept hitting me in the chest or something deeper but man uh the final and i don't want to spoil it because this does seem a bit too close to the chest and too soon um but kind of like what they do with those final like post big battle moments uh and that kind of like tail off of what happens next with all the characters everything that happened there that 20 to 30 minutes or so i found to be very emotional um and very good so and honestly i think i'm gonna remember that more than i remember anything else about season five but that could just be me we're not gonna get into it here uh because it's still setting well darce hasn't finished um so we won't get into it i'm gonna leave it alone volume one drop off season finale it's that oppenheimer quote where they says how could something be good and bad at the same time and oppenheimer says it can so i'm gonna leave it at that what did you say about one battle not everybody on the pod um is pro it well not everybody on the pod is anti-stranger things i'm or anti final couple episodes it's a mixed bag we're all in a mixed bag i'm i am pro it and i give it five stars on letterbox that's all i'll say you're insane moving on all righty so next uh dr mondo hit us with your pick okay so i'm gonna pick this because i'm not i'm literally not gonna have any choice any choices here but it's still a good choice in my opinion uh for lead actor okay i'm gonna say oscar isaac from frankenstein like i really love this portrayal of victor frankenstein like a lot of times it's like i think it's like in the old movie i think it was the robert de niro frankenstein one like victor frankenstein is is like this serious the serious scientist and here he really is he truly acts like a mad scientist with his whimsical desires his ambitions of like he wants to play god but also how unstable the guy is as well and i think oscar isaac does a beautiful job at doing that in addition to being an extraordinary narrator throughout like the first part of the movie i i think he sets a really good i think that movie does a very good job with like both him and jacob elordi but as i yeah oscar isaac as my lead actor i put jacob elordi also as my supporting but yeah i'm i can respectable um frankenstein's not my favorite guillermo but i do respect his craft and his artistry so i did enjoy frankenstein um and i did enjoy oscar i like oscar i'm an oscar fan so i like oscar i'm an oscar fan so oscar isaac is great yeah i don't think i know oh except for the sequel trilogies um he has not done wrong in my eyes were those his fault um no they weren't um age of apocalypse though x-men that was his choice to be in that movie that was not very good okay so i take that back sequel trilogies and that film so there but again is he the only reason that movie's bad that's true uh fine he's not he's not he just showed up to work he you're right yeah he cashed like he cashed in he said give me that money and then he left yeah yeah and left uh what's the word a legacy whoa but like he's not the like again do people talk about him when they talk about that shit show of a movie no part of it i'm not gonna lie i forgot that movie exists i forgot that's him exactly it's like it's like he he went in got his money everyone said this movie shit no one remembers he was very bad it was quite terrible and i liked someone before it anyway we got a lot more picks to be selecting grandmaster hoop you have two selections so hit us with your first and then you've got the turn to to move us into round three so what is the final pick of round two yeah let me um let me go gosh oh man um i did really bad watching film and tv i think this year um but let me go ahead do tv show give me severance uh season two okay i didn't i think i forgot i was still on the board yep um apple correct apple tv yep apple tv season two uh if you have not watched severance it is uh i won't wait who has not seen severance here i'm in the process okay because i think it is i think it is good to go into the show relatively blind um i think that's part of the fun watching it all unravel like what the hell is going on in this show but season two uh because i watched both seasons in 2025 uh everybody who watched season one had a three-year wait um so uh i thoroughly enjoyed when i binged season one i finished it in time for season two and i had a uh i think two episodes were out in season two and i said let me take like two weeks off before diving into this uh and then eventually i had to catch up and then i was watching it weekly because it's just that good um but it's such a cool concept it's very interesting it's very thought-provoking um as far as kind of i don't want to i don't want to talk too much about it it's sci-fi um it's mystery box uh there's a lot of internal conversations or i don't know it's just really good and there was i was gonna choose an episode i was gonna choose the season two finale um cold harbor uh correct correct um that is a great episode um but that's okay because i think i'm gonna oh god yeah i think i'm gonna actually let me go ahead and do my second pick here um for starting the third round i'm gonna now do a tv episode i'm gonna close this out i'm gonna choose the episode title who are you if you know what that is oh did you do andor i did andor i sure did wow look at you yep why were you was andor somewhere on your list uh it definitely was on the list um both severance severance was might might have been like was potentially going to be one of my first picks uh but you guys like k-pop even hunters follow me so um yeah um i fit i i figured you would be on the andor i don't know dr model did you ever get around to watching andor i sit still on my list it's like every it's like and it's not because it's bad because i know it's good i know it's good and even like the first episode when i've seen it i've enjoyed it the problem is that i always see it when i'm really tired yeah yeah i'm like damn this is so good but i just can't keep my eyes open i'm gonna like i'm gonna go to sleep i'm gonna see this later months pass i forgot what the first episode was about trust me dr jace and i used to joke about the same thing we just couldn't get through it and then this year i feel it's like when i get through it i'm gonna binge it i like because from what everyone has told me of andor something tells me that i'm just gonna binge it you're gonna binge it and then you're gonna go back to episode one and re-watch it it's that good no no no i'm just gonna binge it like that's a very select for a select few shows i'm doing that for dark but dark is like dark but dark is the show that you can watch five times and you don't understand what the fuck happened listen season two of andor is a better ride in my opinion than season one um and the episode i picked um who are you is a very there's a lot of real world parallels made in that episode it's a very timely episode as far as people were like man i can't believe disney put out an episode like this during the current regime we live under um and the follow-up episode two is very good as far as kind of big social moment acts of terrorism happen and then what happens when people speak out and it culminates very well and or is the best piece of star wars in the last ten years um yeah like like and again i'm not sitting on andor because granted i haven't seen it but it's like to be fair it is not hard to be the best you're not wrong you're not wrong it's like i'm not sitting on andor but at the same time in a in a world where we had a whole trilogy of films and a whole plethora of series of star wars and you would think the movies would rise above but andor rises above all and dare i say it might be the best piece of star wars in the last 20 years um talk about it talk about it it's like it's it's like andor and the clone wars um i wish the clone wars is good as andor no clone wars is good don't don't and i wish i wish clone wars had the uh the audacity of storytelling that andor applies Listen, Clone Wars is good. andor just has like the gilroy's they're they're they're in a different league of storytelling and writing so i give it to them and i give it to uh uh the dude what's the dude's name uh and andor's actor um why oh i feel terrible why am i forgetting his name cassian andor um the dude diego right no diego luna is it diego right yeah it's diego okay diego uh yes diego that whole crew stellan scars guard uh done's very good adria arjona oh yeah also very good actor but also beautiful yeah yeah so there it is that's uh severance and or who are you off the board so y'all have fun back to back great shows making tv severance um actually i don't even know what i want to say about it it's just like it's it's everything um if you want to talk about uh storytelling that pushes boundaries and pushes what storytelling can be i think severance does that in spades if you guys haven't seen it both to our listeners and those on this pod uh i would recommend taking your time with it you don't need to binge it watch an episode go read a tv recap watch or listen to it to a tv podcast about it um enjoy enjoy your journey with it it's incredible and maybe the same thing with andor because andor is uh if you want to talk about fascism displayed in entertainment and it done well andor is the show for you wonderful okay so we are rather moving towards the third round so we can get a bit of time to talk about it about halfway through um so next dr mondo what is your third pick so i think for best movie again like they've i think you guys have picked already pretty much like four of my best movies and i to a certain degree picked the fifth one with frankenstein but i'm gonna go with one that i really enjoyed i think it may i don't think it's gonna be nominated or anything but it's still a really really really fun movie black bag uh i think it's just like an old school spy thriller movie i i'm a sucker for those movies one the cast is extraordinary the cast of that movie is an all-star cast and it's not an action movie it's just the intrigue behind it how one room it's kind of like one rumor and it's like just like everything is connecting it just like it shifts you in one direction and then just flings you the other way and it's like all that intelligence all that the psychology behind it all that fantastic movie like it was really fun it was just a really really fun spy flick is this soderbergh yep like like michael fassbender kate blanchett everyone is in that movie yeah i think um i think it does a really good job of like to your set the psychology behind it like what does it mean to be a spy like how would you snoop on your partner like how would you like you know who are you off the clock you're probably constantly in this state of mind of like checking things and like wanting more information and i think it really digs into that kind of aspect in a really cool way no and it's kind of like again it's like you you both are spies that work in the same company your job is in a way to lie for no one to know what you're doing so you're lying to yours to the person you're supposed to be truthful always yet you still have to trust them and every and then and like everyone is in that same boat right because everyone all their friends are spies as well and everyone had like everyone could be the culprit or has their own issues and all that it's it does such a good job in setting all that up that you're like okay every this is everyone's fault i don't know i i so i like those types of movies i don't think it's going to be nominated for anything but it was a really entertaining old school spy flick no action needed just like you're getting my brain racing and that's the exciting part of it that's that's soda berg of ocean's fame right yes i always appreciate him so pretty sure this is like a 90 minute movie too oh perfect runtime it's a super short watch but it goes by really quickly but again it's it's great we love two 45 minute segments thank you all right miss mad we're back to you what do you got right i guess i'll i'm going to take one of my safe picks actually my seemingly safe picks this movie's kind of controversial if you're in that world going to pick a supporting performance from the movie the housemaid and i'm going to go with amanda seyfried and i don't know if you guys have seen it it's great i loved it it was a really engaging movie my friend that i watched it with she had read the entire book so her experience watching it was a little bit different and i know there was a little bit of a disconnection with the book character that amanda played and you know who she was portraying in the movie just like physically i guess but she played crazy well she had me fooled and without spoiling anything that might have spoiled everything but i really liked her performance i i agree with you like that movie was great the gas lighting in that movie was great but amanda seyfried stole the show yes she absolutely did i'm also gonna say this she made simi sweeney have her first good box office movie of the year absolutely she's she i feel bad because online discourse is like uh amanda's putting in overtime to overcompensate for sweeney being in the movie yeah for maggot sweeney it's like yeah so but amanda did really good and i'll i'll take her for my supporting performance sydney does it to herself so i inferred she's trying to change or i feel like she's not i heard amanda is helping period look up her social media she's having a blast i heard she has good genes for the gap commercial yeah please put on the cat's eye goodness all righty hooper tv wow okay oh honestly a lot of good stuff still on the board i don't know if you guys all feel that way but there's still a lot of good stuff and so it's all about playing the board which potentially means trying to read dr rika dr rika can you remind me your picks so if it starts uh dr rika can you remind me your picks i can indeed um thus far i've only selected tv show which is the pit and supporting performance which is tiana taylor in one battle after another okay that's good to know okay good to know okay i feel good about that then um then all right i should have been more prepared but still overall feeling good about this next pick and i think not that i think anybody was gonna go with this pick i'm worried i know you're making me nervous now okay i'm in tv episode i'm also worried in tv episode i'm going to go i need to look up what episode this was um i'm gonna go from the tv show the studio okay i'm going oh excuse me tv episode thank you yeah okay to be clear tv episode and i'm gonna go i also love that both dr rika and i both went are you thinking i got so little options that it's like if someone takes are you gonna pick the one uh no i'm not i didn't really like the one i'm i'm on the record no i'm not on the record so this is me going on the record i'm anti-waters get over yourself start putting in cuts i'm tired of it adolescence oh not to bring up oh but it may be brought up okay we'll see we'll see it's like i'm i'm not here for it i thought it was cute i think when the bear did it um that was and then i feel like yeah since then everybody's been on that kick and i'm over it stop it all of you hollywood um i'm gonna go with the golden globes um episode uh that specific episode episode from the studio well first off the entire the studio was just one of the funniest uh comedies i've gotten to experience in so long i feel like as i think about like my some of my favorite comedies like it might not be since atlanta um have i laughed so hard at a show um it's just like peak seth rogan at the peak of his powers and the way they're just unpacking hollywood what it means to be a star uh the cameos they have everybody from anthony mackie to martin scorsese uh to zoe kravitz zoe kravitz gives a great speech in the golden globe episode um there's this other thing about sal saperstein who's played by and ike baron holtz yes um him in which somehow he gets looped into being um adam scott's like friend from college who get he gives a shout out during one of his speech so then everybody else at the golden globe starts shouting him out too when all seth rogan's character wants is somebody to shout him out in his speech and it is just so funny the way they just like unpack these comedic moments and just get the most out of them i was looking at like the whole season and i could have gone in a number of directions i really like the final episode i really like the casting episode where they're unpacking um who should they should cast for the uh kool-aid man movie um i don't know i absolutely love the studio so being able to represent it in this specific way two nights before or three nights before the golden globes actually takes place yep feels pretty good okay i've started it i haven't finished it but you haven't gotten in the golden globes episode i think the last episode i watched was the uh what's her name olivia uh oh olivia wild olivia wild yes and her the meta kind of joke of her in that one movie um it's it's it's very insightful comedy because it's coming from a place of they work with these producers they've been the actors on the other side of this the kool-aid man and the conversation about franchise versus making films about art the ron howard episode with anthony mackie i thought was actually really funny incredible oh it's so good uh i heard ron howard's a nice guy uh yeah no it's uh i i i plan on finishing it i that's the type of comedies i like that's really clever writing and that cast is pretty great uh cast is great the cameos katherine the water katherine o'hara uh yeah they're they're they're eating with that yeah i'm excited to watch it's my post licensure treat whenever that happens this year you're not even on it wow okay i could have kept that on my back because she don't have apple tv she's playing games i haven't finished it you're right i haven't i haven't seen the last season games it's my it's my post i gotta get this licensure done y'all so i need something to work towards so i i look forward to seeing it in the future all righty um darce what is your selection oh okay um this one might have been one that was a little bit forgotten about um i don't know if it's gonna be on anybody's list but um this is gonna be a supporting performance and i'm gonna go with carrie coon from white lotus when she was at the table and she was just saying i'm just happy to be here at the table also when she left that apartment and she was just like stealing like a priceless jewel and like just screaming and then the way that she was like you know like she ran at the final episode like she just did such a great job um she was very meme worthy a lot of people loved watching her on tv um and i just had a great time so carrie coon you get my supporting performance i had white lotus on my oh you did i had white lotus on my list what did you have that one for um for tv show for like even like tv episode like the the very just what like the very disturbing brothers episode i was like oh yeah oh god oh i forgot all about this season oh my god oh my god that was so disturbing the finale was great i love the finale yeah uh yeah like white lotus i really enjoyed this season like we binged watched that season yeah yeah you took it off my list man you're uncomfortable but love carrie coon i'm a big the gilded age fan um and so i think she's currently like she just feels like the queen of tv right now um for whatever reason never feels like she's like gotten into the movie side of things uh correction proxima midnight excuse me can you repeat that uh one of thanos's children and oh god oh it's carrie coon no uh the gilded age the leftovers this season of white lotus i think she dominates tv in a very special way okay i have two selections um so i'm gonna go with tv episode and adolescence was mentioned i felt tempted um episode one and three are my favorites of the four that were offered um i could go with task episode six specifically some really good television but i've decided in the spirit of my earlier rant about whimsy and leaning in to joy i'm going with episode five of heat of rivalry which is just a a shadow of love and hearts just like i feel like if there was like confetti that i could throw right now in the same way that i very quickly pulled out all the photo cards if i had confetti that i could throw right now i would have gone with task episode five of heat of rivalry i could just throw up in the air that's what i would be doing because that's how i felt at the end of that episode um so i'm yeah i'm choosing heat of rivalry this is the very first season this is the penultimate episode of their six episodes it has been renewed uh for a season two the actors have signed on for three seasons however so and they're everywhere they're they are um you're choosing a rivalry right now by choosing that one thank you so much yeah and i'd do it again because we really need some joy some whimsy some romance and i think how the show is being talked about i think there's a lot of focus on the sex on the intimacy and yes it's a part of it and there is nothing wrong with queer intimacy and showing so in a very explicit way because we're all adults um but what really struck me uh about the show was a lot of the tenderness and what intimacy looks like when you finally get to talking about your emotions i'm saying that knowing that i am a therapist absolutely but i think there's just something about also um a show that is so queer focused being the talk of the town in a time in which queer folks are being specifically targeted in a number of ways by this administration and so um it is so so special that we got this episode of tv um the season of tv as well i think i probably could have you know picked episode four or six as well um for different reasons but i chose this one because there's just a culmination of events that occur uh for both the the two couples that are kind of the focus of the season um and yeah there's just like it's so sweet like it's cheesy it's pulpy it's steamy but at the very end of the season i was like this is just fucking sweet i love love everyone should be kissing consensually enjoying themselves and creating community so just like k-pop is not cringe just enjoy yourself at the concerts love and romance is not cringe okay lean into it these actors did and shout out to connor and hudson my new bffs i'm following what y'all are doing this is a great episode of tv i'm done it's on my list i keep hearing from everybody that it's just really good television um i i did hear you know i i've heard it from my some of my gay friends uh they're like it's very gay and i'm like okay um what i'm friends with too many of y'all to like let that be a factor you know it's okay yes darce yes it's okay um so what do you mean you people huh i'm just kidding the point is i will be watching it uh janelle james and connor just had a little interview i saw that bit uh i liked janelle james response that awkward question i did yes yeah so i'm also i'm also a fan of heated rivalry i just have to put in my two cents i did have to well i feel like i was watching the first half of the season i was just like going through the motions and then i think episode five is a perfect like i would say representation of when it all just kind of clicks in their lives as a viewer it's like oh and i had to re-watch the whole thing over again so i've watched it twice now yes up for a third for the third time in january period yeah the episode i forgot to mention is called i'll believe in anything which there's a music drop oh my goodness that's why that wolf parade song has been everywhere yes i've been on that song for years and then all of a sudden it's come back it's always yeah wow okay um no there's some really blast i said i was done i was not done what is incredibly impressive about this as well is they didn't have a big budget in comparison to because it's a canadian production um and while they are distributed by hbo max it was all produced in canada etc the camera work in some of the decision making in terms of whether music choices etc is really good it is really good in this episode in the next episode as well there's a club scene everyone talks about in episode four there's a lot that's happening here that is like more than just everything that actually the i'm glad you brought up that interview because that's what folks are focusing on like the sex and the physical pieces and you can like ask questions about that but there's stuff going on here that's a lot of fun um that's good tv um i think some of the other episodes i mentioned as far as like adolescence tasks like department q i really liked on netflix as well had really excellent you know tv episodes that a lot of people are going to be talking about in a number of different ways adolescence is already one stuff like um so i just wanted to give a little love to something that's in the zeitgeist but it's not just because we've got sex going on like there's some good stuff happening here so shout out to hita rivalry in this particular episode into love now i'm done actually i'm not done i have another pick anyone else have to say anything about hita rivalry my bad i'm getting to it okay um so my next pick i feel like i probably shouldn't leave this anymore uh which is film um so many of my first choices and then second choices and third choices have been selected i'm trying to think about i have two left that i can um i'm gonna go with no other choice um this is the most recent film from park to look i have two of my favorite films i think it's to see it saturday um i am so thrilled that i live in a major city because there was a one day showing there was literally one show time i could go to on like a random tuesday night um and i went to it should i've been packing absolutely but i didn't i went to go see this and it was great um i won't give too much away because i actually do like there's certain things like i don't mind spoiling and certain things i actually want people to go see and this is one of those movies um but what i can just briefly share in terms of like a plot synopsis it follows um a man who has just been let go from a paper company and he's trying to put together some hijinks to get a job and it is a critique of late stage capitalism of which we are all under and suffering i won't get too into that but look it up things are bad um but it's not only a critique of that but it is also like a satire it's funny um there are moments of like violence that are unexpected and sometimes expect it um and i just had a really good time with this like i really really did i saw uh was it decision to leave was the film right before this i also liked that another great one um yeah he's just great filmography a wonderful director there are some ways in which the camera is used in this film that i just haven't seen before there's a great use of technology and this is not like a huge spoiler because it was going around with social media as a way to kind of prop up the film but i usually kind of i struggle sometimes with like having ipads and macbooks and iphones and movies sometimes like i'm actually okay if like that's actually something i kind of liked about one battle after another is like there was kind of a joke about that and so we didn't get as much anyway um but there was a usage of an ipad and how the camera pans to the ipad and sees characters through the reflection that was just so cool and that's that's what i want to see and i got it so highly recommend this film um if you don't have tickets and you should go see it and i just want to say that whether it is the uh i think the actor awards which used to be the sags now they're calling the actor awards uh just came out like as far as like in for the nominees and there was noticeably a lot of folks from international features or non-english speaking features that were excluded and read the subtitles y'all are fine read the subtitles this movie was great so it was another film that maybe someone else will pick that i won't name at least right now there's a bunch of films that are not in the english language that are really really wonderful you're missing out read the subtitles you'll be fine this is great i'm excited to see it um yeah i'm checking to see if it's here it was here in chicago yep the movie theater right by me i'm literally on my regal app right now trying to see because uh they did a bit on the daily show uh with ronnie chang and park he was on the show and they got ken jong to translate but i guess ken jong does may not actually speak korean um so that was the joke um it's on my list it's on my list um yeah if you guys are familiar with the dare dog devil kind of in the hallway fight scene where it's just like this one shot where he's just taking down like a bunch of guys that's this director that's where that this comes from this director made a movie called old boy a movie called old boy put some respect on the name i'm i'm trying to speak to your audience of marvel heads who might only know daredevil and may have no idea what old boy is um and in that movie there's specifically that scene and every scene that kind of does something similar is just a call back to that movie that's this director park chan-wook he's the man yeah he's great film is great well we love lee we know lee y'all know lee that's gima by the way that's the voice of gima in k-pop demon hunters if y'all didn't know yep and he uh squid games uh nobody cares about squid games anymore okay moving on okay so darce you are up next all righty so my next pick again is going to be a little bit of a another deep cut um taking a note from miss mad's list so um i'm not sure if anybody's watched this tv show it's been around for a while but um one of the performers this is going to be for my lead performance um one of this performance was really great um it's a tv show called or that i was one of my friends introduced me to it his name is trevor thank you trevor because he listens to the podcast so um one of the tv shows that he recommended was called hacks and my lead performance goes to gene smart um and she does a great job um and it was a really great season uh if you haven't caught on to it it's a tv show about um what it's like to be a female comedian in the industry and um especially one that's been on stage for a very long time and like trying to keep up with new jokes and trying to kind of stay relevant and then she has to hire an intern and then her intern ends up being someone that like she trusts um on so this was a really cool tv show i saw earlier on in this year um but yeah i give it to gene smart for hacks good pick thank you i know it's been getting all those oh it swept like the emmys last year um so you haven't watched it give it a try uh maybe i shall i like gene smart she's the voice of kim possible's mother that's the only thing i know her from fun fact so great with the voice acting uh shout outs that's what i'm here for but i shall give it a look eventually make more use of my hbo max subscription like dr rica's saying i'm paying for it right i'm just like what am i paying for like two shows this is crazy so let me do better all right hooper tv all right wow i'm just like i just got hit with a crazy idea guys it's like do i do it do i play it safe do i do it do i play it safe hmm all right here we go everybody buckle up because this once again will either win me the draft or lose me the draft i feel pretty good about this pick um so i'm gonna go in supporting performance you guys guessed it ariana grande wicked for good it was a safe choice um the thing is i am like i did not love this movie but also i feel like anybody familiar with wicked kind of thought there was a good chance this movie was going to be a bit of a letdown if you're just familiar with the second act um i think what it's asked to do is a lot in terms of adaptation and making this work um you know i remember years before when the movie was announced and they were like we're gonna split it into two different parts the talk amongst the town was oh well the first act's gonna be great or the first movie's gonna be great that second movie's gonna be a struggle and that's what it ended up being but i still think ariana grande or like the way i view the movies overall is that they are a piece of each other and so i think ariana grande is still very great in this second one and overall what she does both these movies is really remarkable um i think we are all familiar with her in terms of being cat from victorious um her snl work where she usually is able to showcase some of her acting chops but the way she was able to really make this role her own like she is glinda for you know the next generations to come um in a way that's really special uh i think is was really was really magical i think her and cynthia cynthia obviously there are two peas in a pod their their performance are are inseparable um you know they're they're great together in a way that i'm gonna keep talking about what made me cry that made me cry in the theater uh in the first one didn't really cry in the second one even though i thought foregood was gonna be super moving but nonetheless i just like really just like that i honor ariana and her performance with this pick ariana and wicked for good i can respect the overall you know they filmed it all together so it really is just one film split into two so i can respect the overall performance and i can also respect someone i think it was apex when we did the wicked pod you know he said act two is really glinda's story you know it's her who has to realize she's in the wrong the whole time she has the more of an arc in part two so i think ariana definitely gave that and uh yeah we could just respect the overall performance across four hours and 48 minutes or so of her so i gave it to her i gave it to her but yeah no wicked for good no not that good but it is what it is yeah overall i was disappointed unfortunately and i think i was so overly disappointed i can't i wouldn't have it in my draft i think yeah it wasn't a mine wow i forgot about it i put ariana as supporting i have ariana as like it was like a last ditch effort if they have the nobody else is left yeah but i think yeah like the first wicked is perfect the second weekend the second like the second act is a letdown but i think it's like i actually saw the wicked broadway after i saw the wicked the first wicked movie so i kind of knew i knew what what was it i was gonna expect i knew what to expect in that because even in the broadway the broadway blew me away but it was like the second act compared to the first act i was like there's a lot of things going on here there's a lot of things that are jumbling i i i think and they can't do this in broadway i feel that wicked should have been three acts it's like i feel it should have been three acts because like what happens in the second act is just like you're jumbling so many storylines that it's the pacing just seems off apex is working on it dorothy and the wizard of oz kind of like nudges are cute in broadway in movie in the movie it just kind of all falls apart they should have leaned in into the dorothy bit in all honesty but don't worry oh and just like tangent regarding like dorothy there's actually going to be like a horror movie that's going to be coming out this year that's called gail throw it away and just like i was like that's interesting it's likely to be it could be really bad but i was just like that's interesting throw it away with the winnie the pooh the the steamboat willie the bambi horror movie that throw them all away that's fine i'll see gail you'll just see captain like what what which marvel movie have you seen a thousand times don't worry about it the point is throw it away this is the problem when it goes into public domain these shitty horror total moving on this man you're next okay i think i will take my tv show slots um and i will take i'm not sure if you guys have watched it but all her fault anybody here nobody here yo i'm well you're the only one that watches peacock yeah i was about to say yeah well um just as a synopsis is about yeah sell us this this family they lose their child and he's missing and and it's kind of being painted to be like all her fault the her in the majority of in question is played by sarah snook from succession yeah so that's definitely what roped me in but overall it was they had a great twist they had a great resolution based off of a book a lot of people who read the book said that some of the twists that they made or like the adaptations that they made made a lot of sense uh from paper to screen but if you understand that they made this change you'd be like oh and that's all i'll say pretty good pretty good watch jay ellis michael payne dakota panning huh you have to add it we do like jay ellis so dr monto you're next what are you picking you are on mute sir thank you thank you so sorry about that i think i'm gonna go with tv episode i think i'm gonna go with last of us season two through the valley wait which one was that which one is that i forgot about last of us okay good pool being that was on my list like joel's death scene like joel's death oh wow okay yeah like divisive that was gut-wrenching that was absolutely gut-wrenching i think one the chemistry between both actors right uh bell uh bell ramsay and and pedro is just extraordinary it's such a brutal scene like how they kill each other it's just such a brutal scene like how they kill each other like kill him in front of her um and it's also like in addition to just like the context behind he's like ellie was like ellie was absolutely super mad at joel like they weren't on speaking terms and it's kind of like it's also that how she realizes how much she loves him but didn't kind of like get the to say those last words to him that like the last thing that was said between them were words of anger and i think all that like happening right in front of her eyes how she realizes that in that gut-wrenching absolutely gut-wrenching i may say good choice i may raise you that episode to the episode that shows the actual conversation that happened before also also that's a also yeah i mean i guess they complement each other really well so yeah but just seeing him die in front of her and she's powerless while all that's happening at the same time she's the battle you get the battle in that episode too so i can't remember if the battle is the episode before or if it is the same episode i think no i think it's i think i think it blends i think it blends in i think it might be the same episode or it might be the same yeah i think it's the same episode but she's powerless while all this is going on in front of her it's jesus that scene gut-wrenching was that the same episode with katherine o'hara um i don't recall um because she she appears i think in the first like she appears in the first two episodes but i'm i think i know what scene you're talking about but i'm not 100 sure okay the battle of jackson it is the same episode so wow yeah pretty good episode yeah like through the valley wow that episode i think um and i don't like to bring attention to this but i feel like you know bella ramsey gets like a lot of criticism for whatever reason um she's incredible in that episode like she's like yeah agonizing pain yelling it's like you really feel that in a way that i think i'll just say it makes that scene hit harder than the video game i'll say it at least that scene at least that specific scene they are incredible i want to draw attention specifically to bella ramsey yes they are incredible no bella ramsey they they are incredible i said it okay there you go yeah yeah probably the better part of season two and all the rest of it is i i like season two season one i like it more but definitely that episode and the episode that you say kind of like the flashback of why like the the fight between them i'm with you yeah it's really good episode too i agree those two are standouts the rest of the season we'll shake it okay so we have grandmaster who are standouts the rest of the season we'll shake it okay so we have grandmaster who okay i'm digging at the bottom of the barrel here uh let's see i got two performance picks and a film so i'm probably scrambling for film but let me go ahead and do a lead performance that i really enjoyed this year um i'm gonna go ahead and do a lead performance that i really enjoyed this year um give me what's her name elizabeth olsen uh in an eternity ha ha miss mad ha ha ha ha ha ha what's so funny is because darce was there i was getting a haircut in goodness i missed like the first 50 minutes of eternity you did you missed the first half of the movie oh my god yeah yeah yeah i still cancels out your ability to no no it doesn't agree no it doesn't no it doesn't no it doesn't because i take it out no no no no because i went to the theater i went to the theater and i that the the from what i saw i came in at the part where um her and uh the first husband were uh on their date and they were going through the the archives and uh from that point on i i was like this movie's not gonna capture me because i came in too late and i was wrong they still did it they still did it and i really liked elizabeth olsen uh i really liked all three leads throughout that film um but yeah no i uh i want to give some uh respect to this movie uh i like the concept of the eternity i like the um her inner you know struggle between picking of her two husbands and where to spend eternity but i think the biggest thing that i loved is that i walked away with something from this movie and it was her line you know talking about has everybody seen it no okay uh she there's like a first i'm hearing of this movie no it's i think it's interesting i don't know i think it's really good and i think uh miles teller and the other dude whose name escapes me are also really good calum turner calum turner do a leap of fame do a leap was man yes correct and uh divine joy randolph is also in it too uh she's equally as good uh the grandmother from uh in the heights is in it and uh uh but uh elizabeth like closes out the film or like her completion of her character arc is about like you know life is not made up of life is not about like this one singular moment of when you were the most happiest it was life is all about a bunch of moments that define your happiness and the good and the bad that come along with life and let those define you know your life and whatnot so i'm not gonna tell you how it ends i'm not gonna tell you who she picks she picks herself uh but it's really good it's it's a nice little rom-com too i feel we don't have much we got more like films like the materialist that equally thought-provoking but uh this was nice it was nice it was nice i like the materialist but i like the materialist but i like the materialist movie a lot better um so give me elizabeth olsen for lead you've got it and let's round this about oh man i'm again scraping at the bottom of the barrel uh supporting is tough but give me this is a wild card pick for sure give me uh give me l fanning predator badlands okay yeah i just want to quickly share all of our supporting performances that have been selected in this draft are all women shout out to the women okay good job everyone anyway talk about oh um has everybody seen predator badlands no it is the most fun it's the most non-predator film of the predator franchise um less predator than prey less predator than prey yes um it's uh there are some things i talked to uh my friend james about this like yeah there's some things i wish they did a little differently like i i do really like when predator films are like almost like silent films and there's just not a lot of dialogue uh but the welcome dialogue from al fanning is really fun uh she's a stark contrast to our predator lead she adds a lot of fun banter which you don't expect from a predator film uh and uh yeah uh i also too she's uh she represents like the we're bringing in uh wayland if you know aliens and uh you know they are still connecting the predator and the alien franchise which i always liked actually al fanning is a dual performance in this that movie too um so uh i always like the fannings i think l probably i don't know it's funny when you talk about the fannings there's obviously dakota was like top when they first came out and then i don't know there's just been a resurgence of l uh dakota's just been kind of you know doing like miss mad's show uh not her fault uh but yeah i really like l fanning in predator badlands very enjoyable uh and we'll probably see more of her in a future predator film it's the uh it's the same thing with the colkins you know oh how kieran has now usurped macaulay absolutely yeah and nobody remembers the colkin that was in signs i can't remember which one that was so you don't even know you're like what no uh if you go to my letterboxd review i feel like it's literally the same thing i feel like it's the same thing i feel like it's the same thing about that it's that's the whole review is about like oh this is when the other colkin took second place um before really cruising himself to third yeah but i can't remember his name now yeah there's like five colkins i think um only three matter yeah um i really liked predator badlands like i just had a fun time with it i remember going with some friends and i was like i just want to see some things blow up and then i want to go home and that's exactly what happened i thought it was pretty creative in terms of like the world that they went to um i thought l was very charming and it was fun i recommend it highly fun um and they they're expanding the lore i love some lore expansion so i'm curious to where they go next with predators because uh tracking bird uh he's been killing it yeah i gotta watch it i gotta watch it i gotta watch it i gotta watch it the animated one he did oh yeah i need to check that out too yeah that i heard that one was really good He's a real investor, so I like to see that. All righty. Dr. Mondo, you're back. Okay, okay. So, film scene. As we said, the first film scene that comes to mind is Sinners, but that was already taken. But another film scene that is just, like, awe-dropping, awe-inspiring, just because of the sheer ridiculousness of it all and how it came to be, the Mission Impossible plane scene. Good call. Good call. I thought I was going to get away with it. No, the Mission Impossible plane scene is absolutely. Wow. The entire movie is, like, again, you said it, Wesley. Sometimes you want to see a movie where things blow up. Mission Impossible is that. They went full stop with awe, and they connected all the movies. I love how they did that. But that scene, that's a real plane. Tom Cruise is hanging on on a real plane. The way he says, the way he practiced. Was that he put these huge fans that were blowing, and that's how he trained for that scene. This 60-some-what-year-old guy was dangling from a flying plane. Come on. Come on. That entire scene. It's stressful. I'm devastated. Yes, this is such a great scene. I will say, the movie is a bit of a mess. It is a mess, but it's Mission Impossible. But. There are two stunts that make it worth it. That are worth the price of a mission. This is one of them. The biplane scene, which comes near the end. Just, I don't know how he does it. I'm upset that the stunt Oscar is not quite coming yet. Because Mission Impossible should have multiples at this point. No, like, the stunt Oscar is going to have Tom Cruise's name on it. They just got it. It's going to be called the Tom Cruise Award. Well, when. They give anyone who does, like, a stunt. Because it's like, these guys are dumb. ridiculous if the award is ever when it comes he will make the next mission impossible despite this being the last one you gotta do something he he'll be like that that that reward that award is mine yeah but i will say the the other scene too is uh so there is like basically a silent film in the middle of this film when they're down at the submarine incredible scene too it is so damn good it is the submarine scene is amazing too there's no dialogue he's it's genuinely just the stunt work it's amazing those two scenes just see it it's a mess the film is the plot wise it's a mess i give it three and a half stars just for those scenes he yo shout out to stunt people thank you so much i had so much fun watching that movie and i appreciate it they tried to make it so good connect all the movies into one i appreciated that but those stunts nah my heart rate just going blood pressure skyrocketed i was like wow sorry to a sorry to take that i've gotten i got more stuff than i thought i would get um i'm pretty amazed um but i'm glad someone picked it though great scene great scene okay so we've got uh miss mad what do you have for us i feel like i made too many mistakes i was in a position to get everything that i wanted and my whole plan is falling apart i needed eternity from a movie scene and i feel like that's a very hard one to be replacing at this point and now i have my lead performance that i feel maybe i'll go with but i guess i guess i don't know if you guys you guys probably haven't watched the show i don't know if my biggest thing is i don't know if they fall into lead during close enough lead villain we'll have to leave we'll have to believe you lead villain lead performance i'll go with kim kardashian show but not kim kardashian sarah paulson and all's fair i don't know if anyone's watched it but i don't know if anyone's watched it but i don't know if anyone's watched it but it's kind of a a rough show and rough watch but it is totally entirely digestible and i think a lot of that has to do with how sarah paulson delivers her lines i find it very funny the folks that i've heard from said that they went into the show knowing that like we're not here for the quality we're here for enjoyment and they enjoyed it it does exactly that and i think a lot of it is just like i don't know if anyone's watched it but i don't know if anyone's watched it it has to do with her well for me personally and shout out everyone's girl tiana taylor she's in it too period i see a six percent all right you know what sometimes that's just how it is yeah listen i like brian murphy i thought it was an interesting choice when i saw that kim k is the lead um but it had all the other uh brian murphy mainstays nisi nash sarah paulson glenn close but i guess that wasn't enough uh so six percent is crazy it started at zero i remember at one point it was zero it's gone its way back to six people aren't even being fair at this point they're just like i'm sure half of those reviews people didn't even watch it and if they did they had the odds stacked against them i see this it says pan criticized the writing kim k's performance however paulson's performance received praise okay so there you go all right you're putting us onto some stuff though that's the whole point of this i try to all righty i was gonna say i can't wait for the canva presentation with all like the films i'm on there because i'm gonna go through and be like okay i'm watching this one next yeah inspire some folks check out some tv and film from 2025 so all righty hooper tv okay um oh it's like dicey i feel like i want to go in one direction and i feel pretty good about it um feel pretty good about this direction and it will just mean i i just really hope i get my last pick though if i go in this next direction okay it's like which one to go first all right i'm gonna go this one i'm just gonna roll the dice and i'm gonna go with none other than avatar fire and ash um what to say about these movies i mean i'm going i'm putting this okay thank you and the thing about um i'm going to go with none other than avatar fire and ash um what to say about these movies films is that they're meant to be experienced in the theater and there is really nothing like seeing an avatar movie in the theater and i've i've seen them all i've seen all your critiques i've seen like oh this feels like the the second one again and it's like oh what are the names of any of these characters like as soon as this movie comes out nobody wants to think about it i hear all that um and i rest respectfully just don't care for that opinion uh when i go to these movies there is nothing like it i am teleported to pandora and for three hours three hours plus now i am on another world it is just unlike anything visually out there i think if anything comes close it's like probably dune but dune is doing something entirely different in terms of its world building i mean it's so much more than just a movie it's so much more than just a movie it's so much more than just a movie it's so much more than just a movie it's more than just a movie it's so much more than just like we got on that jellyfish airplane like floating airship uh and then they're attacked by the fire people i was like wow this is cinema i've never seen anything like this um when varang shows up everything happening with ring the moment she shows up to the moment she you know the movie ends like she is just so magnetic and she is just like absolutely doing something and she's like i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't something crazy she's so good um we're not chaplain we're not chaplain on a chaplain man like and i didn't really kill it i was unfamiliar with her game as they say uh because i think um i think like what she's doing like just puts her in an elite class in terms of her motion capture abilities because that was just so cool what she was that up was that a play on words you're not familiar with her game uh no that's wasn't she in game of thrones oh yes yeah yes i did know that yes so that was yeah and she's related to charlie and i think she's charlie chaplin's granddaughter something like that yeah yeah so so she's she's incredible she was incredible in game of thrones for her short live time there and she was incredible in the new avatar movie and i think what really worked for me in this one is that the second one i felt like because they have that time jump and they're trying to establish a bunch of new characters and they're taking you to the water place and there's a lot of like kind of finding your groundings this one was just able to kind of like go and be the kind of adventure kind of splashy brightly colored world that it can deliver and i thought it delivered yet again it's making it's continuing to climb the box office once again james cameron can't miss and i don't think these movies can either no like i think the third one is sorry go guards no no i was just gonna say we're gonna have to talk hype about this because anytime i talk to grandmaster hoop about avatar 3 it gets shot down and it gets me all fired up intended so uh you and i can no we talk about one specific thing we're not gonna do this not on live television because you know you're wrong no like i think this avatar one i think i liked it more than the second one i think you said you you said something that the second one the time jump they just had to introduce so many new things still visually stunning as all of them are and just a masterpiece of like technology and how they get implemented on cinema but the third one just it takes off where the second one ends you know exactly what happened sure you're introducing the fire people which are totally different than any of the navi that you've seen already these are like the navi that it's like they have turned their their back on the goddess ava or something called um your goddess has no dominion here oh just fire no but it was just like i i loved it i loved fire and ash i enjoyed it also it was just like the villains i think were a lot more interesting i think the way they start dating have you ever seen that you ever seen like villains like start becoming a couple no that was just like the entire time like uh what's what's the guys like the colonel or um uh what is his name it's um uh colonel kord was like the entire time i can change her dude she's changing you it's like dude like you got tattoos now oh my god i was like something he started the entire movie it was like he was like i can change her james cameron like at what 70 plus still giving you gold like it's it was great i i love that movie start to finish i enjoyed it it was it was almost like three hours was it yeah blew by three hours i wasn't bored in those three hours i was just like mesmerized the entire movie absolutely couldn't agree more feel good about it being my movie pick it's a good movie pick okay i didn't get a chance to go see it i was on vacation and i just don't know if i have over three hours in me you still have time it's still owning the box office you know i may i may reclaim that time just re-watch way of water you'll be fine i may just re-watch heat at rivalry or just watch avatar the last airbender it's a better avatar franchise i don't even know why you want to compare the grandmaster don't be a hater yeah way of the water is a better film no it's not yeah i don't think so but uh all righty so yes um so as everybody is saying we're starting to like go down um picking our last couple of choices um y'all have made a lot of great selections on tv a lot of great sections on tv episodes um i haven't watched the kim kardashian one so i can't put any weight behind that one just yet i'm just kidding um but um one of the ones that stood out to me on my list um that's still there is uh from the bear it would be the wedding episode which is the wedding episode which is the they go underneath the table and they're chit-chatting with um his daughter everybody's coming out down under there they're having like little personal time the bear has some really fantastic episodes um especially with um i think it was there's spoons there's forks there's seven fishes there's um romeo save me all of them so good iconic um but this one was really great for a tv episode to the bear on wedding day i do not know season number or episode number so i'm so sorry that i cannot i was gonna say because i know it's season four does anyone happen to know oh here i think it's the penultimate episode yeah it feels like towards the end nine i'll look it up okay it's episode i think seven um um i think it's seven which is called bears is the name of the episode duh bears no just bears just bears yeah i hadn't gotten around to watching this season dr rica jesus like i watched some tv but clearly different types of tv um i was watching a lot of things that actually premiered in 2025 so that's cool but okay i have my last two picks um so this is exciting um so i'll finish um five and then get us started for six and grandmaster hoop will um you'll finish us off so i'm going to pick for lead performance i'm gonna stick to my commitment of picking women for both of my performances and i'm gonna go for a tv show selection which is going to be lovey simone from forever uh there's also upkeeps not only my wanting to pick women but also romance that's just kind of that's what i'm about that was in 2025 um so for those who may not be familiar with forever this came out a little earlier in um 2025 so it's something like when i was going through what i watched um i forgot that i had watched this um not because i didn't love it but because i clearly watched more tv than i usually do um but it is a romantic teen drama it is on netflix it's an adaptation of a judy bloom novel of the same name so it follows uh two athletes in la as they just become each other's first love and they're navigating what it's like to be in a relationship uh trying to figure out what it means to to be like in athletics and is this how i want to navigate my life forward and go to college and parental pressure and particularly um these are black teens and so there is not a lot of coming of age stories uh for black folks um and i was just so so excited for this um and really really loved it there's a lot of great performances not just uh loveys but she's one of the leads um so she plays uh keisha clark um and she's great like in terms of just like the journey that she goes on from like how can i open up to connecting with another person and trusting another person and being vulnerable which is incredibly hard it's even harder when you're a teenager and still trying to figure out what the hell is going on um and so i really appreciated getting to see kind of where she ended up from where she began in terms of just like disinterest and uncertainty to being really open and actually making a lot of grand gestures to show that she was all in you know on this relationship another performance beyond i think um michael cooper jr is the the other lead um so plays her love interest uh justin edwards another performance i didn't pick because again commitment to picking women wood harris plays justin's father it is so so good um people don't know this about me because i don't necessarily talk about my personal life on here but i'm an only child who like i love my parents but i'm a dad's girl like me and my dad are super close we're incredibly similar in terms of personality and it's not very often that i get to see and watch like certain films and see my dad reflect it in the way that like at least i perceive him i felt like wood harris was a representation of like what i would imagine if i were to write something and like based off of my dad this is like wood harris's performance and his demeanor and the humor but the care um just felt so so present um and it's a really good show it's eight episodes i believe it's been uh renewed for a second season um and it's sweet but there's like just emotional components too and you know yeah i'm all in on romance clearly um so highly recommend i i'm excited to see what lovey as well as michael so both of them do next um but she was just really wonderful as a um again a little complex but for different reasons she's not betraying her entire community um like tiana taylor was uh in one battle after another but um certainly complexity isn't just like trying to figure out who you are in the world so um that is my selection for uh lead performance and then as far as my very last selection which is film scene um I could go with something that's like exciting but I just gotta stay true to myself and we mentioned him earlier and I didn't select him in what I feel should be lead performance I think some people have been talking about him in supporting but it's a lead performance um so from Wake Up Dead Man I am selecting the phone call scene um oh yes yes okay so um for those who don't know Wake Up Dead Man is the third film in the Knives Out franchise this can be found on Netflix um really enjoyed this the color grading the color saturation is beautiful get your colors out y'all get lighting correct it it's still it's still there it still exists in movies and TV let us see the things because it was beautiful it was really really wonderful but Josh O'Connor uh plays a priest in the film and he is the lead I know like Benoit Blanc and as far as just being able to have uh Daniel Craig uh present is the the mainstay of each of the the films but Josh O'Connor is like the kind of protagonist here that we're following and it's his story really and so much of the film of course it's a murder mystery like you know how did this character die in the film and uh Josh's character because the the murder happens at the church that he is a priest um at he gets really wrapped up in like what happens here um and gets far away from his values and what grounds him as a priest there is a scene in relatively maybe the middle-ish to second half of the film maybe where he renews that connection to his values that he realizes oh I've gone a little beyond what I should be doing um and why I got into this in the first place and so it is a it is initially what is supposed to be kind of like a humorous scene of like you know anyone who's called customer service has been in a conversation where they're like man can this get like get my needs met so I can get off this phone and do whatever I got to do in my life um so that's how it starts where he's making this phone call and um there's like this annoyance and there's this urgency of like please just answer this question so I can so we can try to figure out you know the next steps in understanding this murder the character on the other line um and I'm so sorry that I don't know the actress's name because she was in Somebody Somewhere which I really really loved on HBO go watch that as well there's only three seasons it's a really excellent TV so she is on the other side um and right before he's trying to hang up she says you know can I ask you for something and ultimately asks that you know he pray for her because there's something that is happening in her life and he pauses and you just see the shift the micro expressions that like what what am I getting myself involved in like this is why I I am here to connect people for them to be seen for them to be understood um for them to connect to God if that you know is ultimately in this case you know her her uh her desire to to have some degree of support whether that's from another human or from a higher power or a combination of both it's beautiful and Josh O'Connor is so so good in this film from just being like funny to being really tender um to being like you know I have my own relationship to organize religion but he would convince me I'll be there Sunday like because there is such a sweetness and a genuine care um and enthusiasm to to want to connect to other people and want them to be well and I did not expect that to happen in the middle of a murder mystery film uh and I'm so glad Ryan Johnson gave this like space and included it but Josh O'Connor was such a great like uh selection for this particular role um to make it happen I don't I can't list too many people I would have wanted um to to be in in his shoes during that particular scene but that is my selection um I think there are bigger scenes you know we talked about I lied to you we talked about you know K-pop Dean Demon Hunters and Mission Impossible and I could have picked a scene from ballerina um and you know so they're big scenes but this one really got to the parts that this is why I love movies because it makes me feel things like whether that be joy or appreciation um shout out to Josh O'Connor I love him shout out to Josh O'Connor I'm right with you uh I think when I think of some of my favorite scenes of the year I think it's that scene from sinners and honestly that one too was just so I think I think it's jarring as is for Josh O'Connor's character in the film I think it's jarring for the audience because it feels like up into that point it's kind of using like religion and faith is kind of like table setting to have the whodunit um and in that scene it kind of really digs in into like what is faith what is a relationship with a higher power what does it actually look like why do people turn to it in a way that just was so refreshing because I feel like so often these movies about like a specific religion or faith are very like feel like it's coming from a studio uh that like you never heard of and is just like retelling the story of Abraham or something you know it's just like it's like so over the top and so in your face it's like you I don't watch those movies um or it's indifferent to the idea of religion or it's like anti-religion and this one comes at it from a point of like just feeling like pure curiosity it just feels like Rian Johnson was like I'm not trying to take a side here but I can see the value of it and it's going to be showcased in this scene but I'm also going to showcase through another incredible performance shout out to Josh Brolin kind of like the dangers of potentially going down that path um and he shows both sides and I think what he does with that specific scene you mentioned is truly incredible truly moving and I think honestly some of the best work I think Rian Johnson's ever done so and Joshua Connor it was that movie that scene in particular that put me pushed all my chips to the basket to the middle of the basket I'm all in on Joshua Connor he's he's he's here and he's here to stay I agree that scene was that scene was great I I love that movie uh I think it's a very touching movie especially when it comes to certain scenes when it comes to religion now and you know it's like and this is coming from like me like I don't believe in a higher power or anything like that but it's like I could definitely appreciate kind of like that relationship like that like okay so this is the you know like the ugly side of the coin which is like the Josh Brolin character which was honestly hilarious too he was good uh it was so funny but also the ones who kind of like are in the faith for the right reasons yeah uh and like that relationship that is truly like inclusive that is like the faith is not meant to Divide but in order to like embrace people with open arms it's like let me support you instead of shame you uh I think it did a really good job and that scene kind of exemplifies and exemplifies that yeah and the actress Bridget Everett I want to be sure I'm gonna say because you need two to make that happen and she was really really wonderful so um shout out to um Levy Simone from forever can't wait for season two um as well as wake up dead man I'm done and Josh O'Connor for rem Linguini and the ratatouille live action I say remake give him James Bond give it to him no give it to him he can do her he can do no wrong I'd watch it the to be fair that I'd watch anything that I think he's really talented I really enjoy him okay well Darcy you will be picking your last selection which is your favorite film or whatever film you were selecting at this point in the draft yeah um great selection that you had by the way um this is gonna be a little bit tricky because we went through and we list out a bunch of great films as well um this year has also been a little tricky for me because I haven't really watched too many movies in the theaters um I've been watching a lot of My Hero Academia trying to catch up to the final season so I've been chugging along Grandmaster hoop got me on it and so I gotta give him that shout out but um I had three movies left on my film list that were not scratched out um and I think I'm gonna go with one of these I'm a big Universal Studios nerd I used to work in the parks um and I am gonna go with this live action adaptation of how to train your dragon um oh no Miss Matt I'm so sorry I did I take one for your list my list is all washed you don't have to feel bad doing something from Miss Mad's background is tough um yeah it is right there it is i'm so sorry if it if it helps i can switch to my second choice no you you got it you put a smarter smarter draft than me i respect it um but how to train your dragon was such a fun ride um also shout out to steven romano who also really enjoyed the movie um so yeah you know how to train your dragon fun if you haven't been to epic universe go check it out ride the rides enjoy the park um come down to orlando florida where you can enjoy epic universe this is a little plug for them hopefully they sponsor us in our next podcast who knows um but uh yeah that's gonna be my choice for my film of the year oh uh good choice good choice i'm glad he didn't say the lilo and stitch live action adaptation no because you would have started an argument and we can't do this again on live tv oh it's fine you pick the better you pick the better adaptation so all righty hooper tv you have tv show remaining perfect perfect i was worried that this might have been taken beforehand and the thing is i've been trying to create a bit of an eclectic kind of selection um but it ended up being a lot of popular stuff like we've got avatar fire and ash we have what it sounds like um from k-pop obviously ariana grande is already a superstar and so for the last pick i mean it's not too under the radar i feel like anybody who knows about it is talking about it um whoever's really into it talks about a lot so for tv show i'm going with none other than pluribus what a show i mean just and i don't really know how to describe it either because coming from vince gilligan so the creator of breaking bad and better call saul um it's using his ability to kind of like really zero in on like human behavior in such an interesting and engaging way and applying it to like a sci-fi kind of dystopian show and what he does with that i find just like so brilliant is not just like a show that's like not getting too hung up on like the sci-fi or the dystopianness of it it's just about who is this person what is she going through living through this specific dystopia um what are her ups and downs like and it does it in a way that i think a lot of people have criticized it for like being slow or nothing's happening but i don't think it's nothing's happening i think just everything is happening under the surface and i'm not going to say it's a wavelength that everybody can get to but if you can get to its wavelength i found it to be such a rewarding show such a fun ride and honestly i've spoke about things that have made me emotional another show that like made me so emotional between i'll just i'll just say this between the main character and this person who's part of a hive mine uh what what what don't say anymore i don't i just feel like i'm not giving you that a lot of people go all right fine it doesn't make sense to me so yeah the idea is it doesn't make sense forget what he said it's between a person and a person leave it at that you're not getting spoilers you bring too much attention to it and then it becomes a spoiler we just kept it pushing and we've been fine um anyways anyways you know what i'll just say this a hug takes place and it made me cry it was so beautiful um so shout outs to love shout out the hugs yeah mentioned a hug earlier yes um and so yeah with my final pick in tv show i'm going pluribus also shout out lesbians if i'm not mistaken this particular character yes yeah yeah so great representation 25 we're gay we love hugs we love love yep that's what we're doing let's bring it into 26 as well okay thank you thank you for your pick it's also my list to watch um okay miss mad okay more disheveling or reshuffling around the board um but i guess for mine i just have my last movie scene for me there's a there's probably movies that i liked more than this movie but none of them unfortunately probably has to do with just like the structure and probably it's a little bit better of a movie so i didn't have as much of maybe as like an aha but i'll have to go with unfortunately now you see me three the big reveal i didn't i didn't want it this way but y'all y'all forced it upon me so i feel your gen z is showing but go off i mean i am a sucker for these movies i did and after watching the third one i went back and re-watched the second one just because i do thoroughly enjoy them i will say the added cast that they're trying to make like the young group didn't like and didn't vibe with them at all but you know the way the big magic trick they exposed the magic trick and that was cool so that's my scene and i'll take it i'm so sorry for laughing off camera so hard at this because that was one of the movies that i had on my list and i was like no i can't put that that was i could i couldn't it wasn't that great i'm so sorry you're like no that would be like really embarrassing to have in my i did not want to say that out loud stand by your pick now you see me that's y'all's generation uh that's your trilogy there you go you run with it yeah good that's gen z's lord of the rings you run with them this man do them like that go out dunes literally right there for yeah which is so good i'm excited for the third one um all right dr mondo you have a tv show to pick okay my tv show like i knew no one was gonna pick it because like i'm pretty sure like no one has watched this show it's the second season of weak hero in netflix so it's uh it's a korean show so it's a korean show about this kid who's like bull who is bullied and how he kind of like he's really smart really strategic and kind of like how he forms these alliances but also become uh forms these really deep friendships that help him pull him through this and i think it's like it's based on a korean webtoon i didn't know this until like later well i was watching i was just like this sound this like looks feels like a webtoon and lo and behold it was uh that they made it and the characters are i think they're really well constructed characters um it deals a lot with like bullying with shame with all these different pressures that like teenagers especially in in south korea and seoul and in asia when it comes to like their school culture their face and also it's pretty brutal it's really dark it's really brutal i think it's a it's a great show so the second season dropped this year and it was amazing so that was my pick for tv show of the year and i was gonna and well let me see grandmaster you picked tv show already i did i did you did okay then fine because i was like the other question is can i ask does a documentary count oh uh why wait what are you thinking of 50 cent who showed me how to that i'm not hating enough oh uh you have to ask dr rica if that counts uh yeah documentary yeah no but like weak hero was mine but i was i was just gonna i i was gonna joke around for the documentary it's a good documentary i watched it like honestly it's great i i hate those documentaries and i thoroughly enjoyed it like just let me construct the villain that is diddy and you didn't have to do much people came for no no but i mean like the psyche and everything how they go into the psyches is great but weak hero if y'all haven't seen it which it seems that y'all have it i would give it a watch two seasons i think it's like eight ten episodes each it's an easy watch uh the characters are very likable it's also like very exciting certain parts and also very touching well great master hoop you have the very last pick and yours is in film so what are you selecting oh my gosh bottom of the barrel um wake up dead man was gonna be my film but i figured it would go uh we're gonna have to do jurassic world rebirth no i'm kidding that would have been absolutely joking we're going with uh rachel zegler and snow white uh no i'm kidding no no no that's that's the best scene like all is fair by gal gadot no absolutely not uh no uh i'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel i think i am gonna have to pull a film that i think uh i'm not really into war films but warfare can i throw one out there for you no i just i just said it warfare why what were you gonna say nope never mind bye what were you gonna say um one of them days with scissor and kiki palmer which i did think about too i enjoyed that one that was a fantastic four four steps oh fantastic four fantastic four was already used wasn't it no you mentioned it no no i don't want to use fantastic four i'm gonna use come on i want to use warfare alex garland warfare type of propaganda my bad yeah stop trying to be someone you're not man what no it's not propaganda it makes war look scary like i'm watching that movie i'm like i never want to go off to war i hope i hope people don't look at that movie and say i'm in i'm in i'm just just say you have bone spurs man that's all it's gonna take oh that's a dig uh what uh what did you uh appreciate about this film uh i think sound uh wise it's it really puts you in those moments with them uh cinematography wise not that it's like anything spectacular but um again i i don't i feel i don't watch many war films but uh i don't know i just felt it was a really good depiction of this like real like shit we are pinned down and we it's like if this other team doesn't come around the corner and back us up we're fucked uh and that has a really strong cast i really like the cast of that group uh if anybody's watched reservoir dogs on fx uh the main dude he's in the movie uh his name's jay i forget the rest of his name it's a long name uh who else is in that movie joseph quinn uh will poulter will poulter um i'm looking at the cast now yeah it's crazy cosmo jarvis uh from uh the samurai show uh the dude so i'm forgetting all these people's names the dude from uh what's that show riverdale oh charles melton charles uh the one with him and the teacher michael gandolfini yes gandolfini yep yep noah's noah centennial noah centennial yeah see they got a stack cast uh and yeah i really i don't know again i don't really care for war movies i really don't but after watching that i'm like uh props to people who defend our country but it could never be me because uh that shit is scary and god forbid you know i got bone spurs but no it's good alex garland he's a good director if you like alex garland he also did you know uh uh 28 days right didn't he do one of the 28 days uh on those or he's doing the next 28 days uh and he's supposed to be doing a video game adaption he's supposed to be doing uh dr bondo your favorite uh elvin ring he's gonna come and do elden ring apparently so at least he's in talks so you are maidenless yeah actually garland's next project will be a film adaption of elden ring there you go wow that's honest yeah so yeah there it is i'm gonna just go through all the categories and then we'll just end with like things that maybe weren't talked about but you just want to shout out we go in detail but just you shout it uh so in film uh selections grandmaster hoop you selected warfare in tv show you selected severance in a film scene i lied to you number one draft pick the correct one as well from sinners um tv episode who are you from andor elizabeth olsen for eternity and then al fanning for predator badlands dr mondo you selected black bag weak hero the biplane scene um through the valley with last of us uh oscar isaac and amy madigan from weapons miss mad superman all her fault the big reveal from now you see me now you don't as far as film scene sorcerer from stranger things uh sarah polson and amanda seyfried let's see hooper tv you've got avatar fire and action and then you've got the movie the movie the movie dash pluribus what it sounds like k-pop demon hunters uh the golden gloves episode from the studio to be the chalamet for part of marty supreme and ariana grande for wicked for good darce you've got how to train your dragon overcompensating the hug from thunderbolts bears from the bear jean smart and carrie coon and then lastly i got no other choice the pit which i'm excited to watch this episode um the phone call scene from wake up dead man i'll believe in anything shout out heater rivalry uh lovey simone from forever as well as tiana taylor from one battle after another any shout outs of just things that weren't uh mentioned or selected or maybe it was selected just not in the category that you just y'all no details just laid on us begonia uh zootopia 2 that was fun and 28 years later okay i heard good things honestly like the scene the scene at the beginning the boot scene with the poem going on at the background wow amazing i'm gonna shout out demon slayer infinity castle probably will be the first anime movie that's like you know like based on a anime series to be nominated i think it will it's got a golden globe nom uh i think it had the critics dom too uh so it's something to we can train made a lot of money that's all i'm saying oh yeah mook and train was the highest grossing movie of 2020. i'm saying it wasn't nominated oh yeah no they're starting to now realize where they went wrong okay yeah again i think it's like anime is no longer just like uh yeah it's like anime's big it's like i think it's like they have to start admitting it they can't they can't ignore it they can't ignore it it's like anime is huge i'll be interested to see if they go that route they're the academy they're old and they're slow um but yeah shout outs to emma stone and jesse plummins from begonia yeah i had jesse on my list they were both on my list but didn't make it uh sentimental value was if i didn't pick no other choice that was my um another option and then any of the three actually four people could have selected for any of their performances i mentioned adolescence and task uh both of which i really loved um particularly task was so fun i think there's going to be season two i'll be looking forward to that um something underrated on netflix it's called north of north it is a comedy a lot of fun a lot of fun highly recommend um and let's see i really liked oh go ahead just speaking of documentaries real quick um i finally finished recently and i've been telling everybody um who's been around me the peewee herman documentary um as a generation that grew up with him being the butt of all jokes um my relationship with him has been a lot of fun with him was always been like this weird kind of distance thing um and i think that documentary just unpacks like who he was his character his trajectory his life in such a cool enlightening way that doesn't shy away from the uh potentially i want to use the word stickier but i feel like that's not the right word uh the um the more messy the more messy the more messy the parts of his life i guess i'll say so um i'll give a shout out to i really liked mickey 17 i thought robert pattinson was so good at that and so was naomi aki who was also good and sorry baby which is also on my list uh for ava victor who was the director writer lead um and there's like one more i wanted to mention we already talked like briefly mentioned sza um kiki palmer one of them days that was really funny had a good time um joel edgerton from train dreams i don't know what was in that movie because the last 15 minutes i just sobbed i don't know if i was having an off day but there's something that got me at the end uh it wasn't just like oh like tears and like i i felt my body like moving with emotion so that's on netflix it's actually a really beautiful film but joel edgerton was really great in it and something about the last 10-15 minutes you need a good cry it got me um i'll quickly shout out i think tim robinson's obviously having a moment i love the movie friendship i think it technically came out last year but uh went semi-wide theatrically this year um that's that was one of my favorite comedy movie comedies in a long time i think there's plenty of laugh to laugh at at that movie so no i i also want to give shout outs i i said original horror was great this year i want to give a shout out to good boy i good boy was such a unique movie it also kind of felt really cool just to encourage the cowardly dog in the in the big screen but it and it's so cool because at the end of the movie if you stay they tell you how they filmed the movie and it went like they show it's like okay hey by the way you just saw our movie and like the director and actor it's like that's his real dog and like and he's like yeah this is how we filmed the movie and it's like it's so interesting how they show how the movie was made and how long it actually took to make that movie i also want to give a shout out i it's uh david johnson in the long walk like the long walk was really good and david johnson throughout that entire movie was great yeah i'm excited to see him and stuff like i've seen him in some stuff i'm excited for more stuff yeah like he he's super talented he's super super talented like the the long walk that entire movie he just it's a good movie it's a really good movie but he just i think he elevates it like every scene that he's that he's talking he just he takes it away and let me see what other movies i got here um i want to give a cool i like ballerina ballerina i just love john though john wick universe and ballerina was just flamethrowers that was one of my backup scenes oh the flamethrower is great um that whole time when she took out that whole village uh oh no like the the village of assassins she just absolutely bulldozed and like kills everyone there uh it's not getting enough love i feel the grenade fight scene that she's just he's fighting against her and she's fighting against her and she's fighting against her and she's fighting against all these guys with guns in a small space just throwing grenades she shields herself with the guy she shields herself with the door it's like come on this it's so ridiculous but it's so artistic i love those types of fight scenes when they just like let's think outside the box it's not getting enough love so barely is it and kiano makes an appearance in the film i would like to give a shout out darce mentioned it earlier i'm not here to discuss how you feel about this series but my hero academia has concluded its 10-year anime run and it has went out in what i would call a very satisfying ending and despite how you may feel it defined a decade and my hero is probably the best one of the best superhero tales of the millennia so shout out to uh horakoshi the author shout out to the dove and the subversions we love my hero so i would have chosen my hero if it was a movie but it was not uh so it's okay speaking of anime i'll give a shout out to freerun beyond yes by the way season two is dropping is dropping next week oh wow that's incredible i knew it was jumping oh nobody care i knew it was dropping earlier early this year next week next week freerun beyond oh my god that's such a great show just such a good show i mean just the characterization the pacing the storytelling everything and the animation oh love it what a great character for you i think what i what when i see which i'm really excited for anime i know it's like hell's paradise but also i think they just said they're making vinland saga season three i also love vinland saga so that's all i need i have no enemies so i'll wrap this up um with one last thing which is name one singular film with no description of one singular film with no description of one singular film why but one singular film that or tv show since we did both you're looking forward to seeing in 2026 and that's how we'll end one and just the title x-men 97 season two fascinating choice fascinating choice i have yet to get around to my most anticipated kind of podcast and list um i feel like they're starting to come out and i'm looking forward to listening to them um i feel like it might be basic to say but off the top of the dome i am really excited for nolan's the odyssey that's like that just feels like a she said no description oh oh i gotta follow the rules are you you did thank you um i think i'm most excited because i just read this book uh the hunger game sunrise of the reaping that is the serial okay i'm gonna go with dune part three yeah yep yep i second that yes yeah i'm like looking through because i am excited for a lot of movies just say doomsday you know you want to i think ethan did you say moana live action shut up the front door no i sure did not absolutely not toy story 17 oh god no i think i think i'm gonna go with with dune like i think might actually be the movie i really want to say the most well you can't be excited for dune part three without being excited for doomsday because it'll be the dooms day because they both release on the same day as of today as of right now they are releasing on december 19th oh wait scratch that Summary:
