Caleb Williams delivered a dominant performance in the Chicago Bears’ 30-24 victory over the New England Patriots, showcasing exceptional accuracy and composure. When not pressured, he posted a 96% completion rate over two weeks, with a 87.5% completion rate when the offensive line avoided pressure—highlighting his consistency and effectiveness. Head coach Ben Johnson’s trust in Williams, evident in key plays like the final drive, underscores a transformative quarterback-coach dynamic. The win marks a significant step for the Bears, who are now in contention for the NFC North title after a long period of quarterback instability. Williams is positioned as a top-tier quarterback, with many comparing him favorably to elite peers like Josh Allen, citing his reliability and playmaking. The game intensified the Bears-Packers rivalry, making it more compelling and entertaining. Analysts also note the potential for a future Super Bowl matchup between the Bears and Patriots, fueled by Williams’ growth and the roster’s evolving strength. The broadcast, hosted on ESPN Radio, blends game analysis with cultural references and promotions, emphasizing both the athletic excellence and the emotional stakes of the rivalry.

The NBA on ESPN is happening now, and we're here from all of it. From the superstar moves to the next gym revolution. Let's get who we are, boys. Here's another trade. Hey! We don't just love it, we love it, because the NBA is a world of his own. [MUSIC] So from the biggest names to the biggest moments, ESPN is where you call home. [MUSIC] This is the unsportsman-like podcast on ESPN radio. A victory formation that snaps decalably at bears with a fade to black. These nights are awesome. You play for us another good team, and a prime time game on a short week. You get to see who you are as a team. When things happen and things don't go our way, you know, on the water's rocky, we stay steady. I know we got the right guys in the slot room that they can handle. Anything that's thrown their way, and they have a lot of belief in each other. They know that even when things get a little bit funky or haywire, that we can write the ship, they're going back the right direction real quick. >> Okay, welcome to the show. We are unsportsing like here on ESPN radio. ESPN 2, we are presented by Progressive Insurance. Say it when you bundle, auto, home, motorcycle insurance, visit progressive.com. Jeff Joni with the call, Bears Radio Network, ESPN 1000 in Chicago. These Chicago Bears, where they big time win on Thursday night football against the New England Patriots. 30 to 24, Caleb Williams was just phenomenal. Luther Burden, go to guy, and they now are five and two Patriots, four and three. Hello, Michelle Smoment. Chris Canty, Evan Cohen, line from ESPN Madison today. Good morning, everybody. How are we doing? >> I thought both quarterbacks put on a show last night, Evan Cohen. I mean, listen, no shame in the effort that the Patriots gave on the road in a short week against a team that is contending for a consecutive division title. Like, I thought the Patriots were game to give the Bears a game last night. And say for one red zone mistake by Drake May, I thought it was a damn good game from him considering all the other factors. >> It was, it was a good game out of both of these quarterbacks. And I'm watching it last night thinking, this feels like an inevitable Super Bowl matchup at some point. >> Run it back from 85? Can you see it? >> Run it back. >> With the way those two have- >> If you can squint, you can see it. >> The way that those two have found the right coach and/or play collar for both of them, the way that they've both developed in their young careers, the show that they put on last night. I could absolutely see at some point we see a Caleb Williams versus Drake May Super Bowl. >> Could you imagine that twist of fate if we got that Super Bowl this year at LA, Caleb Williams and Drake May in the year that Mike Dicke passes away? >> That would be, wow, I mean it would be, it would be, but it was a phenomenal game. I thought both teams were outstanding yesterday. It's just that Caleb Williams was a little bit better than Drake May. The running game was a little bit better for the Chicago Bears and the defense was a little bit better for the Masters of the Midway. So I thought, again, both teams were in that thing and both teams played really, really well, but I thought the Bears were just a bit better. And I think that's a positive sign for them as they try to chase down the Minnesota Vikings to get to the top of the NFC North. >> I think Caleb Williams was so phenomenal last night in my watching of this game that I literally sat there guys and I said he's going to be the best quarterback in the entire NFL at some point. He is that good. There were moments during the course of that game where I was so frustrated as a Pats fan because I was looking and I'm like, they can't tackle him in any way, shape or form. And Caleb Williams to me, what he did last night, stand alone game Thursday night football, and this is not the first time he's done it. This is just the initial reaction to what we saw most recently. What he did last night for me was show me, he reminds me of moments with my homes, Alan and Jackson. That's what he reminded me of last, is he as good as those three, not yet. But Caleb Williams, I think, I watched him last night saying to myself, that is a man that will be the best quarterback in the NFL at some point in the near future. He was that impressive, he's that good in my eyes, guys. Yeah, I mean, there's no argument for me. And the thing that's the most impressive is that when Caleb Williams is clean, he does a lot of damage. I mean, this guy has the highest completion percentage when he's not pressured in the national football league this season. Over the last two weeks, when he's not pressured, 44 of 46. And I said coming into this year, well, well, say that, say that again and say it louder. That is unbelievable what you just said. So the last two weeks, when he hasn't been pressured, he's 44 of 46. For those of you that aren't math majors at home, that's 96% completion percentage for 464 yards. Just to simplify this even more, not that you didn't just do that, but just so average everyday fans, Michelle and I and everybody listening, right? What you are saying, correct me if I'm wrong is, when it's there for him, he will never make a mistake. What I'm saying is, if you don't put pressure on Caleb Williams, it is going to be a positive play for the Chicago Bears. Wow. Listen to this. On the season, when the Bears offensive line hasn't allowed a pressure, Caleb Williams is 77 of 88. That's 87 and a half percent completion percentage. He's first and completion percentage above expected, that grazed the degree of difficulty on throws. He's number one, have when he's kept clean, and he's second in off target percentage. Now I said, coming into this year, if Caleb Williams can make more of the layups than this Bears offense is going to be dangerous, they're going to go to another level and dammit, that's exactly what's happening. That Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson have found a way to get on the same page. He's more fundamentally sound when he's delivering the football. You saw it last night on that third and nine on the final drive, where he ripped one to Roma, Dune's a 20 yard completion. That set the stage, set the toe for the Bears to make it a two possession game and put it out of reach for the Patriots. But think about this, F and Smalls. This is the thing that's probably the most impressive in a game where the clock was everything and trying to make sure that it struck midnight on the Patriots without giving them a chance. Ben Johnson put the ball in his quarterback's hands and let him throw it. You have the best one game in all of football, and he chose to give the ball to the quarterback and not just throw it once on third down, but he threw it again to Roma Dune's a four another big game. He had a drop back where he ends up turning it into a scramble, like Caleb Williams was out there playmaking, and that's the head coach putting the game that is in the balance in his quarterback's hands. That level of trust from what we think is one of the best coaches in the NFL should speak volumes about the kind of player that Caleb Williams is. I'm, I'm just in all, honestly, like I'm just truly in all, I was in all of this guy last night. I couldn't believe how good he was. He just, and there were plays that you're like, okay, well, it's third and 20 or whatever it is. He's got a way of just getting out of this clean pocket and punted away if need be, right? And he makes those plays over, and he doesn't throw interceptions. He's not fumbling the ball like he's just awesome. He was the number one pick, and he's playing like the number one pick, and you could sit there and say, well, that's an obvious statement, and I'm not making this about you smalls, but I have to make it about your points. You were all in on Camor, Camor does not play like the number one pick. So playing like the number one overall pick is actually a thing that needs to be brought up. And smallsie, Caleb is playing, if you can go higher than one, that's the way he's playing right now for me. He is living up to every single thing we thought he could be coming out of college. And one of the saddest things in sports and in life is wasted potential. And even though he plays for the Bears, which is the hated rival of my team, the Green Bay Packers, as a sports fan, I am thrilled that Caleb Williams is not going to be wasted potential. I said it at the time that the hiring of Ben Johnson could end up being the most consequential thing to happen in bearer's history, because this is a franchise that hasn't had a franchise quarterback since I've been alive essentially. They haven't had a four hours in yard passer. They have been in quarterback purgatory slash hell for a long time. And Caleb coming out of college, you thought, wow, this guy has all the raw materials to be that transcendent guy, to be that difference maker in Chicago. And year one, he clearly did not have the right coach. He publicly wanted Ben Johnson, Ben Johnson waited until he had the right spot because both of them have this bravado about them where they know it's if or not if it's when both of them have this attitude about themselves, where they're like, yeah, I know how good I am at this. I know how good I'm going to continue to be at this. And as a sports fan, I'm glad they found one another because this is a perfect pairing and we are seeing Caleb Williams get to another level. Well, small speaking of perfect parents, obviously there's going to be the comparisons to other head coach quarterback Tandem's in the National Football League and when you talk about the Chicago Bears, in the same breath, you're going to talk about the Green Bay Packers. And earlier this week, you talked about, you talked with Jay Mac, Jason McCordy, about Jordan Love being in the NBA. D. P. Conversation and Jay Mac said that Jordan love is not in the house with Josh Allen and Brock Party, but he just turned on to the block and he's getting ready to park the car. Yeah. If that's the case for Jordan love, then what are we saying about Kayla Williams? Cause in the game that I watched last night, those two guys don't look like they're playing the same game, absolutely. They don't look like they're playing the same game. Like I mean, I'm not saying that Jordan love is a good quarterback, but there's levels to this and it's clear that Kayla Williams is on another level from Jordan love. Now, I don't know where he's at when it comes to the tears and all those different things, but whatever tear Jordan love is on, he's looking up at Kayla Williams. I mean, is there any debate with you as a Packers fan that Kayla Williams right now? If they're in the same building, Kayla Williams got a better view. Is there any debate when it comes to the caliber of quarterback? Well, between Kayla Williams and Jordan love. Kayla Williams has the best run game in football and has a more dynamic offense than Jordan love does. I also would love Jordan loves receivers to hang on to the ball more consistently. But I think what Jordan love has been able to do, especially over these past couple weeks without a run game has been very impressive. He's impressed me in other ways, being a catalyst for this offense to find their footing when they're clearly missing a huge part of what they intended to be. But I'm not going to take anything away from Kayla Williams. He's awesome. And we talk about a potential Super Bowl matchup. Didn't you pick them to go to the Super Bowl this year with the Chicago Bears? I did. You have to feel pretty good about that through seven weeks. Yeah, feel pretty good. Like I said, I didn't, here's what I'll say. I didn't have the Bears in my initial power rankings this season because I did not think coming into this year, they would be the best team. I thought that they would grow into being the best team in the NFC. They might be there now. And I'm surprised that they got there this quickly with Kayla Williams missing. What is it? Three games, three weeks. I'm shocked that they got there this quickly. Now I know everybody's going to push back and say the San Francisco 49ers or Minnesota Vikings. San Francisco 49ers are banged up. Mike Evans is hurt. Nick Boses hurt. Like they got issues until they can prove to me that that offense can figure it out without Mike Evans. I'm going to push the pause button on them being the best team in the conference. As far as the Minnesota Vikings are concerned, there's a team that's paying their starting quarterback. $46 million is not to play for them this season. So like if you're the Chicago Bears, it feels like it's theirs is at the conference is there for the taking. And right now, I would look at it as an upset at the Chicago Bears didn't win the division and weren't vying for the number one seed in the conference come tournament time. Well, the where they're going from here and where they rank both with the overall team and Caleb is a very fair, reasonable conversation that we need to have and we will do that coming up. Let's get into that last field goal. Gutsie decision by the aforementioned Ben Johnson to play for that 58 yard game. What ended up being kind of the game ceiling field goal by Carol Santos after he missed a 53 yarder, but bears versus and Kayla versus they were so good last night that they have walked us into that conversation, which we will have coming up after CCS this from Draft Kings. And Kayla Williams after this season, you want to be a 65 million out of quarterback. Go out, think it's a team to the Super Bowl just saying. It came out I want to say in 1996. I remember it was before that. Really? Yeah, I thought it was before that. No? It was either '95 or '96. But then I made a comeback a couple of years ago with the NBA players doing the dance to it. '96. Ghost Town, DJs, my boo. 1996. So good. So good. Bears radio, by the way, ESPN 1000 is loving us right now. I don't blame them with the praise that we have given. I'm getting a cap in Jay Hood on their way in. I know our listening right now. They are loving this. We're playing the highlights from the ESPN 1000 bears radio. Should I say something that annoyed me about Chicago last night then? Oh, boy. If they're all tuned in. Well, I mean, they're always tuned in, but yeah, sure, annoy them. After the game, I'm watching the post game show, waiting for Caleb to come on set. We have the whole Thursday night football crew breaking it down. What are the fans screaming? Green Bay sucks. Aren't you going to revel in the fact that you just beat a team that went to the Super Bowl last year? Aren't you going to revel in the fact that your quarterback looked awesome. And it's crazy because I know I forget a lot of things because I never sleep, but I believe just two weeks ago that team you're saying sucks absolutely smoked you. But they didn't have Caleb Williams but maybe just pumped the brakes on the green Bay sucks. I'm sorry. Hold on a second. This actually works perfectly. The World Series on ESPN radio catch every pitch of the brewers and rays on ESPN radio and the ESPN app presented by Gusto. I'm sorry, Michelle Smallman, CC's friend, your friend and my friend who I was with last night, Mark Towscher, Green Bay Packers, ESPN Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin. Did he not take the mic at the brewers game in front of 40,000 and say the bears still suck just last week? They lost. Right. So you can't be mad if the bears and Packers can say that because they smoked the bears. The most recent scoreboard says Green Bay is up. Well, in the biggest game that the rivalry has had recently, your team spit the bid blowing a 21-3 lead in the playoffs. I would say we're past that. But that was the last time we saw this rivalry with both starting quarterbacks on the field. Well, we will have another opportunity. I just thought it was funny in that moment that they're thinking about Green Bay when they should be focused on what just happened on the field. Well, I mean, it's appropriate, right? The first home game since the passing of my dick. It seems like it's only right after a win. You would say that the Packers still suck. Yeah, we're showing money on ESPN too, Towscher during this. That was last week, small after Green Bay beat the bears. Smalls. They have every right to do that. The evaluation. Come on now. Shout out to Towscher. All right. Now what's closer to being the truth? The bears are the best team in the NFC or Caleb is the best quarterback in the NFC. Or are both true. I don't want to disrespect Brock Party like that. But Caleb's in the conversation. Yeah, here's what I'll say. Brock Party is playing quarterback as good as anybody. Caleb Williams from a talent standpoint, from a horse power standpoint. Just has another gear. So when the two are at their best, I don't think there's any question who the best quarterback is is Caleb Williams. So now they're technically a couple of games behind. They have a couple more losses than Minnesota does, obviously. but as we sit here today, if San Francisco, if you were just to power rank the teams in the NFC, if San Francisco won Chicago two, are you putting Chicago one in San Francisco two, are you putting Seattle in there, are you putting Minnesota in there? Because I think the performance guys last night was so strong. Now, the Patriots had a great performance by Drake May. They're extremely banged up. That's not an excuse for a loss. It would be more so if you're gonna argue against the Bears, let's say. They made dumb mistakes straight through and the interception in the end zone. They had a terrible fall start from a guard. That's like a fifth string guard. It wasn't even on the team, basically, before the season. - Oh, and that penultimate drive, Drake May, you can't take that sack either. That second down sack, that was an embarrassment. They're sending six, bro. Get the ball out of your hands. Pop Douglas is running a little over route. Throw the ball to pop Douglas. Get it out of your hands. You cannot take a sack. You can't, 'cause at that point, it was a one possession game. And if you go down and you hit them with any type of score, even if it's a field goal, the complexion of the ending of that game completely changes. And those are the things that, like, man, you just wish Drake would graduate, right? Like, those are the moments that you just wish he would make better decisions. You can't eat the ball and take a sack in that situation, 'cause it kills the drive. And you know, if you give it back to Caleb Williams, the way that that Bears offense was rolling, they were gonna find a way to make you pay, and that's exactly what they did. - Well, you just said, wait a minute. You just said something perfect, perfect, perfect CC. You said, you know if you give it back to him, you're gonna basically lose. He's the fear factor guy. - Oh, based on that. - He's the, he's the Bella Check goes for it on fourth and two, because he's a petrified of giving manning the ball back, even if you're a great defensive coach, like, a variable in this case. Like, he's the fear factor guy. You can't, he's my home, he's not my home, but like, how many guys are in that conversation? - That can be the boogie man. - How many guys with their ball are the ball in their hands to win it? Or how many guys will you say, you cannot let him get a chance? - Josh Patrick. - Wait, wait, wait, whoa, whoa. I'm pushing back on you on one thing. I'm not saying you're wrong on the Josh part. Let me just put a caveat. I know a guy's name is Chris Canty, who knows football better than any person I've ever met in my life, who says we should be aware that part of Josh Allen's demons may be popping up again with some of the turnips. - Oh yeah, the turnip of a mouse is always in his closet, but I'm not going to ignore what I saw on Monday night football. - I get it. - I'm not going to ignore what I saw on Thursday night. Listen, he was, if we're keeping it a buck, he was asked for the first three quarters of that game. And in the fourth quarter and overtime, he flipped the switch and it was a wrap. - We keep it a buck or no, yes. - Let me ask you a question. Let me ask you a question on this. - Go for it. - Down four, ball on your own 20, 130 to go, no time outs. Bears have the ball, bills have the ball. If I told you one of them was most likely to turn it over in that spot, which team would it be? - Bills. - Okay, I'm not suggesting that Caleb is better than Josh. I'm just saying when we're doing this game, the fear factor, boogie man game, there is a little caveat with the Josh thing that there is not with Caleb 'cause he doesn't really turn the ball over. - Sure, but let me also say this. And this is not a knock on Josh Allen 'cause he's an MVP, I believe it's a win, not an if he wins the Super Bowl. From a physical talent standpoint, we said for years on end, he has no rival. That has changed. That has changed. Caleb Williams is special. There is no doubt about it. I'm not saying that he's more talented than Josh, but the inverse also isn't true. - I'm so happy you've done this because I know this is painful for you as a Packers fan. I don't know. - No, I actually love it because I think it, I love it because this rivalry is awesome and it's important to sports and a rivalry isn't great if both parties are not good. And the bears have not been great for a long time and large part because they did not have the right quarterback in place. Think about the level that this rivalry has gone to and just one year with Ben Johnson talking his talk and backing it up and Caleb Williams arriving in the way that he has. It has made this rivalry more fun. It's made it more compelling. So it sounds crazy to think as a Packers fan that you would want the bearish have a quarterback like this, but I actually think it makes it juicier. I think it makes it more entertaining, which I love. And I think it'll be that much better for the Packers when they beat the bears with Caleb Williams, healthy and under center. - Yeah, Liam Neeson, good luck drop on that one. (laughing) I was just saying, I think that the overall love fest for Caleb Williams is warranted, it's deserved. And I think every fan that watched that game last night probably sat there saying, "Holy crap, it's this guy good." And he deserves every bit of praise this morning. - But in the same breath, we have to send that praise to Ben Johnson. - Oh yeah. - We don't have this version of Caleb Williams that would have been us. - Fair to, fair to, but that dream scenario. songs but I think it's a phenomenal song I don't know I didn't know this about you you are a secret behave you're a secret part of the behave I did not know what do you think I am what do you think I am I don't know but I did not take you out of the Beyonce fan I just didn't why I know because I've heard you talking about all of these artists on this show you have never once talk you have never once brought up Beyonce you never heard you say and small did I talk about Beyonce all the time but you guys are super fans I'm fans so I can't compete with you guys like I can't hang with you guys in Beyonce conversation I could chime in but I can't like it's literally as if well see no this is not what I played but it's it's almost as if CC's breaking like CC could take a play with Caleb last night break it down in a way where I couldn't do it I would chime in that's kind of the way I think about Beyonce you guys you're like hardcore you're like at the NFL matchup show with Beyonce and what you're able to do I can't hang you know as this song just started playing and I heard Jay Z chiming in I thought yes obviously she'll be there she better no no no no but I don't want to hear any of like this is his moment to shine I can't you know take the spotlight away from him we want you to know disrespect Jay Z that's all disrespect no it's not no it's not I want Beyonce has it been confirmed Jay it's been rumored that Jay Z maybe the halftime performer as a Super Bowl all right she's a talking about Beyonce I mean if we're talking about quarterbacks in the UFC North is Caleb Williams Beyonce and join love the Kelly Rowland shout out to Kelly who is amazing very underrated so yes because if you look at Kelly Rowland's catalog she's got some bangers motivation commander hello what's Kyler the two people that left testing that's good that is the best calm I've ever done on that show good that pretty good is Michelle Williams because she is also very talented has had a great solo career and different genres and is kind of forgotten about her talent is kind of forgotten about just like Jared Goff's talent is kind of forgotten about Latoya look it and Kyler good comp I'll leave it there and I do think that Kelly Rowland is underrated for what she has done in the music space just like Jordan love small yeah but here's the thing Caleb feels like Destiny's child right now no he's Beyonce because if he's destiny's child he'd be all of them at once but it was more of a plan word small come on yeah she knew and she didn't like it I don't think that was a point you thought it was good does you see we try to make it comparison you're taking a little too far no that was good I thought that was good go ahead Pat what were you saying nobody's checking for Kelly Rowland's catalog yeah you might not be but I am nobody is great what about the song with Nellie dilemma is an absolute classic you have never never not dance to when love takes over hey Pat motivation shout out Wayne like I said commander is an unbelievable jam no one is playing the Kelly Rowland radio on Spotify nobody's checking nobody is looking tell me that you're not tapped in nobody is without telling you if this is an unbelievable I'm no good for the rest of the day without week right now Nellie song is great that Kelly Rowland is in this is not a Kelly Rowland she makes this all and though did have a good run I feel like she's saying the National Anthem at a million sporting events I would bet Kelly Rowland is saying the National Anthem and more sporting events in almost anyone ever Pat I'm serious do we have one love takes over do we have one love takes over by Kelly in this system Kelly Rowland we Kelly listen Kelly Rowland he's an artist she's unbelievable join love is a good quarter also great okay but Kelly Rowland is not Beyonce and Jordan love is not Caleb Williams what is aspirated I have one more thing to say on these comps I have one more thing to say on these comps why Caleb and Beyoncé are the same Beyoncé needs an alter ego to bring out the best in her on the biggest stage Beyoncé becomes Sasha fierce okay Caleb very famously is trying to make ice man happen okay he also has this version of himself when he gets on the big stage on the field where he feels like the ice man his alter ego takes over so I'm just saying there are a lot of parallels here yeah they both have one more artist too great nail artist bossy nail artist on point if Jordan love is Kelly Rowland and Pat is saying you need Nellie to really finish off the hit that's not true Michael Nellie Micah is Nellie in that case maybe that I'll take right I will take that there you go actually okay okay we have to wrap that's why I was trying to go there thank you this magnitude but I'm glad we able to do some big world series game one is tonight make memories of Milwaukee that last far behind beyond the final inning travel our way travel Wisconsin plan your getaway travel Wisconsin dot com as I am in Wisconsin here at ESPN Madison and we'll be heading to Milwaukee tonight for game one of the world series along with Michelle small and Chris can't you Evan Cohen with you joining us now ESPN Moby analysts Eduardo Perez great guy great analyst great storyteller and last time I was with Eduardo we were sitting in a green room and he is brilliant with technology or at least he knows people that are and was showing me all kinds of things with analytics and baseball and all these amazing things and now we get to see it in full display here in the world series Eduardo the best part about the race brewers matchup is what the unexpected this of what could happen and I think we're seeing it right away in game one where you know we we see two different type of teams making it to the world series accustomed to to seeing the heavy hitters the big budget teams the teams that can hit the ball out of the ballpark and get you that three run homework any time from one through nine that's not going on right now that's not going on between Tampa Bay and Milwaukee it's a contact pitching defense based running execution type baseball where it's almost like a 1980s style game and it is what we've been accustomed to seeing throughout all these years. seen strike out first and then contact second. I think it's going to be the other way around. Maybe after today because Jacob Mizorowski is on the mound, but that's what we're going to see. And at least that's what the data tells us that we're going to see. And that's what we saw through 162 during the regular season and even in the postseason. Well, Eduardo, let's talk about who's going to be out in the mound for the race. Kevin Cash is opting to go with Nick Martinez rather than going with Ace Drew Rasmus son who would have pitched on regular rest if he would have started tonight. He said that heavy usage throughout the postseason was a driver for making his decision. What are your thoughts on the race taking this approach to game one of the world series? I think it's an interesting approach and I think it's a smart approach. I think a lot has to do with what Kevin Cash says, but it also I think has to do with, let's face it, you have to play seven games. If this was a one game out of one, Nick Martinez most likely won't even see the mound. If it's even a best out of three, I don't think Nick Martinez sees the mound in game one. But the way that Kevin Cash looks at it is he's like, if I go Nick Martinez game one, I go Drew Rasmus son game two. Drew Rasmus son is better on five days rest than he is on four games rest. So then four games rest, so he's thinking, okay, I can get a better outcome from Drew Rasmus son. If I don't win game one, I can still tie it in game two. No Mizorowski by the way, no high Velo, no swinging mess and their team doesn't do well against high Velo. So let's try to do this and even out the series and steal a game, what's the best way to leave Milwaukee? What's the best way to leave Milwaukee at least tied one game to one? And it's with that combination, knowing that I can have Johnny Peralta, I mean, I'm sorry, Freddie Peralta, ready for game one in Tampa where his numbers are better, where the metrics are better because the dome situation at being 72 degrees in the top compared that'll be a little bit cooler here in Milwaukee. It'll be better for Freddie if they start him in Tampa plus the emotions. Well, I would you want to start Freddie Peralta here. It would be great for TV, but would it be great for the Tampa Bay Rays? So I think all those things you put it together, it makes sense to be able to get Freddie Peralta in game three now. The risk that you're having is that if this ends in six games, Freddie Peralta, you only have them for one game, not two because he wouldn't be able to pitch until game seven, but we already saw how they could also use Freddie Peralta as a reliever in this series instead of just a starter. So you would have him probably for game one out of the pen here tonight. And I think that's important if you are the Tampa Bay Rays. Well, speaking of the bullpen, Eduardo, the brewers bullpen has been absolutely lights out. They've been so dominant 1.33 ERA through the post season so far. What do the rays needed to do from an offensive standpoint to account for the dominance that we've seen from this pen? Besides playing because we need to pray a lot here, okay? Let's be straight up on this here. But you know, I went back to early April when, when the Miz pitched to Tampa Bay here in Milwaukee. And you know, you look at it. Yondi Diaz had a home run off of him in a second at that opposite field. But the Miz started the game throwing a hundred and one miles per hour by the third inning when he gave up the home run. He was already at 97 miles per hour. So there's a V-Lo that was a V-Lo drop in two innings. I think what the rays have to do is try to foul off tough pitches, look up in the zone against velocity. It's easier said than done because what happens is if he goes above the zone, you're going to chase and you're going to swing and mess. But if it stays in the strike zone on the upper third, you're going to just have to be able to just put back to about to ball and let the energy of that baseball take the take the baseball and and you're hoping that it'll go over the fence or at least that you can get a lot of foul balls, get his pitch count up and he'd be out of the game by the fourth inning. The problem is and you mentioned that the bullpen is ridiculous. But the reason I say that about Miz is I believe you need to wear him out so you can wear out the bullpen. They've had eight days off since Dodger Series. I thought they were starting to wear a little bit but they were able to regroup. Tampa Bay's best offense is trying to get this to seven games, trying to make this a long series, wear out the ability of them being able to use that pen and their high leverage guys every day. Eduardo Perez ESPN MLB analyst. You'll hear him. You'll see him all over the coverage. Game one of the World Series Rays at Brewers tonight coverage begins seven PM Eastern on ESPN Radio. Brought to us by Gusto Eduardo. Thank you so much for the time. We appreciate it. Have fun in Milwaukee. I appreciate you guys. Thanks for having me. Eduardo Perez always does great work. They're analyzing baseball and yeah, pray was the answer to Michelle's question about the the brewers bullpen. It is interesting because I you know as I'm lucky enough to be going tonight and I thought I was going to watch Rasmussen versus Miz and it's not I mean obviously seeing Miz in person is unbelievable but I that's an interesting strategy because they're switching it up a little bit. Peralta is you know obviously the former brewer who was mentioning that storyline. I think this is a really interesting World Series because I think all the people that complain about the Dodgers better love what's happening now right right all the people CC about your team retroactively that were complaining oh the Yankees spend too much money and they're two okay cool you got two first time World Series winners potentially go or going at it right now somebody's winning the World Series for the first time here thousand percent right you better not I'm just hoping that it's the brewers because I can't stand a division rival raise holding up the trophy can't happen small who are you picking brewers I just think the variety of arms they have are two dominant for the race.
