100 Days Left: Revisit Your Goals and Finish the Year Strong
29m 46s
The podcast introduces a reflective back-to-school framework to help listeners reassess and revise their goals from January, emphasizing authenticity and sustainability over rigid targets. Hosts Shuri and Jean share personal experiences using tools like vision boards and bingo cards to track progress and identify outdated or externally driven goals—such as sauna or journaling challenges—replacing them with more balanced, relaxing, and personally meaningful ones. The episode highlights how excessive or prescriptive goals can lead to burnout, stressing the importance of flexibility, self-compassion, and intentional self-care. Key recommendations include revisiting goals to deprioritize restrictive ones, adding more relaxation activities, and using a journal or calendar to operationalize personal growth. The hosts encourage a shift from fixed plans to fluid, evolving ones, framing the final 100 days as a time for renewal, reflection, and personal reinvention. Listeners are invited to engage in a 20-minute self-review and share thoughts on achievable personal challenges, such as mastering a full split, reinforcing the message that progress is more important than perfection. The episode concludes with a call to tune in for part two, which will cover additional strategies like resetting physical spaces, establishing routines, booking future gifts, and nurturing self-worth.

Wait, my arm looks so muscular right now. Must be the personal trainer. Wake out. Last year, you had to go to the gym 30 days in a row. Do you guys remember that? I need to chill the beep out, yeah. Wait, I found one that I've made no progress on. Do a full split. Is it possible for Jean to non-injuriously learn how to do a full split in the next 100 days? I'm scared for you. LMK. LMK. Hey, we're in Q3, moving on to Q4. Let's sharpen our pencils. Let's go to the notebooks. Let's re-align and figure out how to tackle the rest of the year and go out with bang. Today we're taking you through our top five back to school tips for Q4. This is part one. I'm Shuri. I'm Jean. And where are the Tiger Sisters? We are your Wall Street and Silicon Valley big sisters. And we're a top 10 business podcast bringing late-night sister talk meets boardroom strategy. Happy Fall Tiger fam! So we have a hot take for you guys, which is that January is not the best time to reinvent yourself. The fall is. There's roughly a hundred days left in this year and so this is more than enough time. And also the perfect time to recommit to your goals, figure out your hobbies, clean up your workspace, book a fun thing for you and your girlfriends to do, and so much more. So today we're taking you through our top five back to school tips for Q4. This is part one. So we wanted to do this episode because I think so many people think of January in the new year as like the only time where you actually reflect and set goals for yourself and lock in. But I feel like back to school is the other time where there's always this energy of like I'm ready to renew, right? And I think that this is the perfect time to sort of take that energy and make it work for you. Like make it something really useful for you. Yeah. It's also kind of like a check-in too. As the year is coming to a close in a few months, you are more than halfway through. You can reflect on the goals you did set in the beginning of the year and figure out a game plan to, you know, reignite your goals, retackle them or let them go for the next few months of this year. Yeah. I feel like even if you're not in school anymore, which I think most people are not in school, but there's just this energy of like back to school where you feel like re-energized. Totally. It's like I love being a student and a student again, a student in my life. And I'm like, hey, we're in Q3, moving on to Q4, pencils. Let's sharpen our pencils, let's go to notebooks, let's re-align and figure out how to tackle the rest of the year and go out with a bank. Exactly. Yeah. And that's how I would summarize it. I would say it's like back to school is not really a phrase that's like tapping into that energy. Mm-hmm. So whether you're actually heading back to school or you're starting a new job or you're just wondering where all the days went in 2026, this episode is for you. Let's make the next 100 days count. So the way that this episode works is that we have five tips for the back to school energy. I'm going to read out all five tips, but in this episode specifically right now, we're going to go over tip one, which honestly will probably take the longest time for us to go through and chat and explore with you. Because it's going to get personal. It's going to get very personal. And I mean, there's four more tips, but we will cover that in the next episode, which you guys will just have to tune in for, but I'll give you a little preview. So tip one, which we'll talk about is to revisit your January goals and to figure out how to do that. Tip two is to reset your space, which is both a physical reset and also a mental reset. Tip number three is to recommit yourself to a new routine. That could mean a morning routine, an evening routine, a workout routine. Okay. And tip number four, I'm very excited about this one, is to book yourself a future gift. So that's coming soon. And then the last and final tip is to set aside time to nurture yourself, investing in yourself in little ways and creating your koon. If you guys are wondering what exactly that means, you're going to have to tune in to part two of this episode. Okay, guys. So let's dive into tip number one, which is to revisit your January goals. If you guys were with us in January, you know that we had our episode on how to set goals for the year. And of course, Jean and me are were very cool oriented. We're pretty type A. We've done this. But this is a great time to revisit the goals that you set back in January. See how you're doing and pull out your journal. Take out your vision board or your bingo board, which I have here. And take stock of where you're at today. Meet new grippy setting mist from Mabelie, New York. Gel to mist technology locks in your look for up to 24 hours, with flexible all day comfy grip. Clump, Dewey hydrated skin that still feels like your skin. Try new grippy setting mist from Mabelie, New York. Maybe it's Mabelie. So are we going to review your vision board? I'm going to show you my bingo board, heck yeah. And I love how this is a personal reflection. But it's very much a best practice in business, right? In business, we do this all the time. We do this quarterly. You don't wait until the end of the year to see how your year has been doing. So here are some questions that we can ask ourselves. Which goals have I already accomplished? Which ones have I made meaningful progress on? Which ones no longer feel important, and I can deprioritize? I love that one. That one's a good one. And maybe the biggest question, or maybe like the deepest question, is which goals were actually mine, and which ones did I create because it came from someone else's expectation? Ooh. Okay, Sherry, let's see that bingo board. Are we going to go over your goals too afterwards? I have my papers. Okay, good. I want to make sure I'm just not the only person sharing here. Okay, so this is, if you guys are watching, this is on my screen, my 2026 bingo card. This is a way that I've invented to create goals for myself that is just a fun way to cross off my list. Wow. You've done so many already. And there's one that I didn't even cross off yet. Sonna, 10 times. Well, okay. So we're going to talk through some of this, and I'm going to describe it if you're listening or driving, and you can't see this video. But if you have the opportunity to turn video on, and you're listening on Spotify, turn on your video. Okay. So this is basically, it is a five by five bingo card that I've created. And it is, in my eyes, what would be a very full year and full life for myself if I accomplished all these things. I learned from last year's bingo card that I want to slow down. Last year's bingo card in 2025 was all, how do I put this? It was all like action oriented things. It was action oriented, career oriented, go, go, go. Which is why this year, I have like relax at a spa, get a massage, which I haven't done, get a Korean body scrub. Basically, this year for me, my goal is to slow down. If it's a real bingo card, you don't have to do all of them. That's true. It's true. If it's a real bingo card, you just need to like get bingo. In the spirit of my own bingo card, I like getting all of them. The things that I've done already, I'm very happy about and I feel like I'm on track in terms of completing this bingo card because it's, we're halfway past the year. The things that I kind of want to revisit, so I've, I want to read 10 books right now. I'm on book number six. So I think we're on track and I like this as a way to push me to continue to read more. The thing that I want to like revisit and possibly remove is the sauna 10 times. Wait, why? Like it feels like I'm putting on a putting a number and like a restriction or some, you know what I mean? Like I'm adding restriction to something that should be relaxing. Like I mean, like you're putting constraint, like a overly prescriptive goal. Yeah. I'm like, like damn, can I just sauna and relax? No, I have to sauna 10 times this year. Like, and obviously I've only done that once, so I haven't been making progress on it. Oh, okay, you've been keeping trust. So like I have these like little marks on my bingo card to be like, how many times have I done it? And like if I do it, I'll like mark off. Why don't you talk about some of the things you've achieved? So I'm really happy that Gina and I started going to a personal trainer. Like that was a really big thing I wanted to embark on this year because I've been going to the gym and doing my own thing, but now that we have a personal trainer, we can push ourselves to failure and really like have a plan and progress on it. So I'm really happy that we have started the personal training bit. And for those who can't see, it says start personal trainer. And there's a little photo of a muscular arm. - Under these sleeves. - Oh my God! - Oh my God. - The personal trainer. - Oh my God! Look at that. Look at that. Is that crazy? - It basically is the exact arm that you drew. It's kind of insane. - It's pretty much the same. - Look, I have to lift up my like very girly sleeve to be like, look at this arm, look at this arm. And then I'll put down sleeve cap now. - It's been working. - It's been working. So I'm really proud of the personal training that we've done. Also, I really like that. My board has a bunch of different aspects to it. It has travel, it has go on a no destination stroll, ski a new mountain. I think I've set some of the goals that I'm not too happy with right now, or the ones where I like added like do this for an X number of times. Like I made it like so hard to achieve for myself. - Well, why don't you, can't we take this as a time for you to revise the goal? - Absolutely. I think when you said that before, like we can revise the goals. We're not sauna in, I'm not gonna force myself to sauna 10 times this year, guys. - Why don't you just change it to sauna one time and then you've already achieved it. - I can either change it to like five times or just remove the goal. See, I have swim five times. I have not swam once this year 'cause like back in January, that was one of my goals. But then now I've started personal training. Like that is my mode of exercise. - Yeah, yeah. - That I really like. So I think I'm going to either remove this swim five times, revise it. I also have like a journal 30 days in a row. (laughs) I set these goals for myself, it's like so intense. And then like, that's like, when last year, you had to go to the gym 30 days in a row. And how I like roasted her for that because she strained her back. It was a really hard goal, guys. And like going to the gym 30 days in a row was not healthy. See, she didn't learn from that. She created journal 30 days in a row. Look, I'm not going to strain my back from journal in 30 days in a row. - You're going to strain your mind. - No, I think it's a good goal. But like, I'm going to evolve this. I want to continue journaling. But like putting a 30 day in a row thing kind of puts a like pressure on it that I don't think needs to be there because that's not the ethos of my board. - What about journal 30 days total? - Oh, I like that. - Well, that's similar to sauna 10 times. (laughs) It's not 10 times total. Also, there are two black spaces. One is meant to be blank. The other one is meant to be filled out, which I did on purpose 'cause I couldn't think of anything at the time and I didn't want to like rush something in there. So I can still fill it out, whatever I want to do. - Go to a concert, haven't you done that? - Yes, so this is one that I need to cross out. I went to Sylvan Esso, which was really fun. And I think I, from this, the last thing I'll say is that I could do a better job of doing the relaxing things more. Like, go relax at a spa, sit in a park for 30 minutes, no phone, get a massage. Like, that was the point of this board and I think it's time that I start putting that into place. - Interesting because you've done all the things that are activities, so you've skied a new mountain. She's a speak at a conference, she's done that. Travel international, go to an improv class, attend a sports game, attend a gala, host a live event, get a Korean body scrub. These are all like active things that need to be basically booked or planned and you've done those. And the things that you haven't done are the ones you intentionally put in this year that are to help you what do nothing. - So what are you trying to say? - Well, I'm saying, maybe in the last 100 days of the year, you need to chill the beep out. - Yeah, but actually it's good that you bake those in because this is what it's meant to do. - Right, this is what this session is meant to do. It's for you to look at this and be like, "Huh, I did all the things that are activities "and I haven't done the things that I purposely put in there "to help me relax." - Yeah, I mean, I did get a Korean body scrub, so that was very relaxing, but I need to do-- - It's not that relaxing. - I need to do more relaxing. - Okay, so I have a theory, which is that the person in the meeting who takes the notes actually has the most power in the meeting because think about it. If you're in a meeting, there's 10 people, there's 10 different interpretations of how everything went down, and the meeting note-taker is the one who sends out the actual decisions. You're so right, I've seen this actually happen. So that's why good meeting notes aren't just admin, they're actually business critical, and that's where Grinola comes in. Grinola is an AI-powered note pad that is built for the way real people actually meet. Okay, so here's how it actually works. You take rough notes just like you would in the meeting, and then in the background, Grinola is securely transcribing the meeting. Then it turns everything into clean and comprehensive notes when the meeting ends. - I love that because you can still capture in your notes the things that you think are important while Grinola is transcribing the actual meeting and what's happening. And Grinola works through your device's audio, which means it integrates seamlessly into the video conferencing tools you already use. So there's no setup and there's no bots in the meeting. It's just your normal meeting, but with superpowers. If meetings are eating up your day, Grinola is a no-brainer. You can try it totally for free, head to granola.ai/tiger-sisters. That's granola.ai/tiger-sisters to get your type back. Try it for free at granola.ai/tiger-sisters. Alrighty, now back to the show. Also, one last last thing I'll say is that one of my goals is to score sub 100 in golf. And that, I like this goal a lot because it's something that you need to chip away at. - Literally. - Literally. - You need to chip away at it. - Literally. - But like, it's not something that can happen overnight. Obviously, so I have been working on that and I don't think that's reflected in the bingo board 'cause I've been taking lessons and going out and playing, but it's actually something that carried over from last year 'cause I didn't achieve it last year, which I think is okay. It's just something I'm working on and something I still feel continued interest in. So maybe I'll carry over to 2027, but hopefully I can hit it this year. - Okay, so upon reflection, do you feel like this was a good bingo board that you created for yourself for this year? - I do. I like the balance that I have in different categories, so a lot of it is for fun, a lot of it is for health reasons. A lot of it is to engage my mind intellectually. So I really like the balance of my board, but one thing that I've realized is that putting the pressure on myself to do something, like sauna 10 times or journal 30 days in a row, it makes it less fun. - Okay. - It makes it into work. - Yeah, yeah. - Or an action item where I don't really wanna do that for my bingo board, so we're gonna revise that going forward. - Yeah, so maybe it's just like you write sauna and just every time you do it, you can keep track of it or not, but it's just to remind you to do the thing and instead of making it stressful for yourself, it's just a continuous reminder. - Mm-hmm. - I like that. Back to our list of questions that we asked. Do you think, did any of these goals come from some sort of external expectation that you then put on yourself or looking at it now? Do you feel like, okay, no, these are all goals that were true to me that were intrinsic? - Hmm, that's such a good question. I think the only thing that came from an external goal, and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, was to travel internationally. Because I went internationally for a wedding and then I went internationally for work. And those were like things that I kind of, obviously in obligation that I'm happy to fulfill, but like those were reasons not of my own and it was kind of like, that's also why it came on my bingo board, so I think traveling internationally for fun is gonna be my next goal so that it can be just for what I wanna do for my itinerary. - Mm-hmm. Thank you for sharing. - Did you like that? - Yeah. Very reflective of you. - I'm excited to dig into your goals next. - Oh my God. - This is, even though I know we like, prescribe this to ourselves, it's kind of scary. - Yeah, it is, it's kind of opening up yourself, you know? - Yeah. - Okay, so as you guys may know, as we talked about in January, what I do for setting my goals is very different than what Sherita, so she does her bingo board, which is very cool, it's very visual, and it's very sort of concentrated. What I do is I sort of write out 37 things to do while I'm 37, and every year that number goes up by a little bit, and I just write out a bajillion things, it actually ends up being closer to like 70 items, and the goal is not to do every single one of them, but if I can hit 37 of the 70 or whatever number it is, then I'm like winning. And then I also have this little paragraph that I write for myself that has a theme and kind of like a description of how I want the year to go. So I'll just read the title of the theme for this year. The theme was investing in myself to create opportunities for magic beyond my wildest dreams. - Hmm. - Casual. - Casual. - Casual. - Yeah, no big deal. - No big deal. And then what I did is I write out goals for every single sort of type of sector of my life. So I have health, I have career, I have creativity slash fun.
personal self-investment, relationships, finances, and then one section at the end, where it says things to look forward to by month, and then like usually every month I write some things to look forward to because it's fun. So out of all of these, I do have a lot of things that are sort of like what you said, like do this X number of times. And I think something that's a little different is that this year I haven't been keeping track of everything, usually I like update this document every few weeks or so, but I haven't been doing that this week. So this is actually the first time that I've looked at it again since I made it in January. How are you doing? Is it easy to kind of see how you stack up or some of them? Okay. So for example, the first one I have on here is sleep, improve sleep score from 74% to 80% this year. Okay. How are we doing? I don't think I'm at 80%, but this is something that I've been actively working on as you know, and I've been keeping it in mind, and that's why I have the whoop, like that's why I've been trying to go to sleep earlier. And so I'll have to check on this, but it's been a very active, like ongoing goal that I'm working on. And like also under that, I have moved average weekly bedtime from 2.21am to 12.20am, which I think I have been improving on. Yeah. I think, yeah, 2.21am, I think that literally was my average sleep time when I created this, and now it's much closer to 12.20. Bravo. Thank you. Imagine setting your makeup then forgetting it's even theirs. Salad mist technology locks in your look for up to 24 hours, with flexible all day comfy grip. No tightness. No stickiness. No residue. Turn on your video and check us out. Now back to the show. Okay, I will say one thing that I have not really invested in this year is in my like description of this year, I think I said that I was going to like go on more dates, which I have not really done or prioritized this year, but I wrote go on dates even if it's with myself artistate. So I gave myself an out, not an out, but like the ideas more so to like take time off from just always like working. And I think I could, I could do a lot better job of that. Yeah. How will you operationalize that? Oh, guys, she asked me such hard questions. For me, I guess I would have to like calendar it, like actually like off time, like when you go on a date with another person, you like actually commit to it and you have a date. You have like something that's set in your calendar with that other person. It's harder to uphold that commitment to yourself because there's always other things to do. So I think that that's one thing that I can do a much better job of now that I'm like reading these things again and seeing what my intention was for this year. Yeah. I think that's a lot better. I mean, that's something I can do much better. Can I make a suggestion? Yeah. Like, I think you should reserve either your Friday night or Saturday night for like do nothing, whether it's like going to date with yourself or going to date with someone else because I feel like not working because I feel like you end up like feeling that time with work stuff. I know. So just like from the hours of like seven p.m. to like, I don't know, 10 p.m. On a Friday? Not work. Yeah. Guys, why do you think Tiger Sister's podcast is so, so, so full of work all the freaking time? But like Jean needs to take time off. No, I do. She's with someone or with herself, so like forgive us, but she needs to go on a couple of dates. But I think that would be good. Yeah. Like a Friday, like Friday and Saturday, like religiously off. Yeah. Wait, I found one that I have made no progress on under personal self investment. Do a full split. I've actually been practicing my splits, but I didn't know that you were trying to do the splits. A full split. A full split. A full split. A vertical like in this way, or this way, like, which way, long way or like short way. Long way. Long way. It's unspecified. You know. Yeah, it's flexible. It's flexible. I see, I see. What else? I have prioritized socializing. Attend 30 plus social events where I meet new people. That seems like a lot of social events. 30 sounds like a lot. That's like so many. Oh my God. I know. I mean, but you haven't been doing a good job of that. Like you have been going to the Venice social events with your friends and stuff. So you have been making progress on that. But 30 sounds like a lot. 30's a lot. So now that the two of us have shared our January goals, where we stack up against them, how we're thinking about them, revising them for the next 100 days, this is your turn for your mini exercise on what you can do. So here's your homework. Spend 20 minutes this week revisiting your January goals. And please, please, please, do not beat yourself up. Don't judge yourself. Don't be harsh on yourself. Just take stock and take inventory of where you are today because you need to figure out what worked, what didn't, and also what you need to revise going forward because the goals that I set in January, look, I haven't swam once this year. I'm not going to swim five more times this year. We need to revise them. It's okay to have a plan, but the plan is written in pencil. So you have the ability to revise and also figure out what works for you for the next 100 days. These, write in the comments, do you think I could do a full split in 100 days? Is it possible for a student without injury, for a gene to non-injuriously learn how to do a full split in the next 100 days? I'm scared for you. LMK. LMK. Thank you guys so much for tuning in to part one of this back-to-school series we have of how to renew yourself, renew your goals in the next 100 days. We stay tuned for part two where we go over tips two, three, four, and five of how to reclaim the back-to-school energy. Thanks guys and we'll see you next time. Bye! Jelly mist technology locks in your look for up to 24 hours, with flexible all-day comfy grip, no tightness, no stickiness, no residue. Try new grippy setting mist from Mabelie, New York.
