1h 19m 18s
The podcast features a mix of college football analysis, product promotions, and fan engagement. A new Lucky One Sweet Tea is introduced as a socially conscious beverage, with every can contributing to a $1 million donation for dog rescues. Ryobi is highlighted for its 40-volt outdoor power tools, ideal for tailgating and yard prep. The hosts discuss the recent injury of Mississippi State QB Camario Taylor, expressing concern over his short playing time but affirming his long-term commitment to the program. Lane Kiffin criticizes the SEC for scheduling LSU games at daytimes, arguing that night games fuel fan passion and enhance the atmosphere at Tiger Stadium. The team evaluates several one-loss teams as potential national title contenders, ultimately dismissing Kentucky, Northwestern, and Wake Forest due to weak schedules and defensive limitations. A major upset alert is called for Utah vs. Cincinnati, citing Utah’s momentum and Cincinnati’s defensive vulnerabilities. The hosts also emphasize the defensive strength dominating the Big Ten, where tight games result from disciplined team play. Throughout the show, promotional segments spotlight Ryobi, Tony’s Cajun Kick seasoning, and the fun culture of college football fans, culminating in a lighthearted moment where Brandon’s wife brings him food and sweet tea, reinforcing the personal and communal spirit of the sport. The episode ends with a look ahead to upcoming games and a focus on the unpredictable nature of college football, especially on Halloween.

Welcome, man, on a Wednesday, it's the Brandon Walker College football show, I am Brandon Walker, last scene, and awful announcing.com today as they gushed over how great I am. Shout out to them for recognizing true greatness. I appreciate it, you guys are the best. Liam Blutman, welcome. Hi, Brandon, let's talk ball. Let's talk ball. We're talking ball here on a Wednesday night. We've got a week full of college football that has some games, not quite as good as what we've got next week, but who cares? This is Halloween, and it's crazy shit might happen on Halloween as we have all these teams getting together. We have some takes I got to get off my chest, then we have our ball watchers guide, we have some uniform news, which I always love on a Wednesday, and we have Lane Kiffin stopping by the show, pre-recorded a video or an interview with Lane Kiffin. First time we had ever, we've talked a lot, we've texted before, but we've never talked to him on something like this, so, me and Lane Kiffin finally got together, Ole Miss fans for Joyce, I am aware we are going live during the game five of the World Series. That'll just be how we get through it. Zone Town says Camario Douglas said, "Day Portonoi, I don't pick him, yes, Day Portonoi is a goddamn idiot who doesn't watch college football, I don't know what to tell you. Day Portonoi is a fucking moron, he doesn't know names, doesn't know players, didn't watch Camario Taylor play this year, so don't know what to say, if you guys are coming here to report Day Portonoi stupid, you're about seven years late on that news, dip shits." Take number one, Camario Taylor is out for the season, I got blindsided with this news mostly sports yesterday and my reaction, y'all've seen my reaction where I have to compose myself and I get mad. When you're a football team loses, when you're a college football team loses, do you go through all five stages of grief in seconds? Because I will go through, you know, whenever my football team loses or I know they're done for the year or something like this happens, I go through that time period where I'm like, it hits me and then I start saying, "Why do I care so much? Why does it matter so much what 18 to 22 year old kids do so much? Why can't I just spend my life not caring as much?" And then it's like, "What did I ever do wrong?" So I go through that. Now it's, "What can I do better? What did I do wrong to deserve this?" And then it's, "Well, it's not that important anyway." And finally, when I get to a situation where, "Oh, I did have yesterday, I also had the one where you mean old biscuits to go to a judge and get a 26 year old play quarterback and I can't have the best quarterback in the country for more than four weeks?" I went through that too. All kinds of emotions. But I have settled down now and I am comforted by this fact. I will watch Camario Taylor play as a Mississippi State Bulldog again and I will do so next year when he returns as the quarterback of the Mississippi State Bulldogs because if you guys, I know you like to have fun, he's going here, he's going there, he's going there. You like to be moan the French? You like to complain about the transfer portal and then when it happens like this, you like to make fun of me using the transfer portal. You hate it when it's your team but you love it when it's my team. Whatever, that's what we sign up for. But I'll say this, if you think Mississippi State is going to stand idly by and let the favorite son of Knoxby County get poached by someone else, he got another thing coming. If you think he wants to play anywhere else but Mississippi State, you got another thing coming. He's going to be a very, very rich man in Starkville, Mississippi very soon. He already is but he is going to be a Mississippi State's quarterback next year is what I'm trying to say. I believe the viewers have just gone up one nothing. It could be wrong about that. Anyway, Camario Taylor needs to get healthy. I do hate that it's a shame that he showed what he showed in four games. He's got otherworldly talent and we only got to see a third of the season from him. He is a great quarterback, a great guy, a great human being, a great leader, a great everything. And Mississippi State will leave no stone in turn to make sure that family is taking care of for a very, very long time. Thoughts Liam? You know, I think back to the bowl game too in which Camario is thriving in and gets hurt and then like it happens, it stinks that we've now seen. It's not just one time. We see him cut short twice of greatness and like, yeah, we can't understand that. I feel bad for you. Yeah. No, it sucks, but whatever. You move on. I was down real bad yesterday but Camario is, I just hope Camario gets healthy. He had the surgery today, he'll be back from what I understand of other coaches on state's campus. He is the best recruiter on our campus. Like he, other coaches from other sports introduced their recruits to Camario Taylor because Camario will talk them into going to Mississippi State. That is his love for the university. Lane Kiffin is bitching about night games. Now, Lane Kiffin went from Ole Miss to LSU. He is the LSU head coach. They're six and two, five and two, whatever they are getting ready for the stretch run with Alabama and Texas will hear from Lane in a minute and he actually talks about that on this show and sucks that I didn't have this lie because I believe the podcast that got it recorded after we did, but anyway, it doesn't matter because he basically said, I'm paraphrasing, but somebody in the SEC doesn't want to see LSU win and they know it's a, it's a disservice to LSU and a disadvantage to not have LSU Alabama at night. It's a thumb in the eye to LSU because he is there, again, paraphrasing that they're putting the game at 230 and not at night. Now, I get the sense, and this is my take. I don't know that Lane 100% believes in it or wants the games at night as much as he appears, but I know he knows LSU fans won't ever single game at night. I know he knows LSU fans thirst and quench for the games at night. I know he knows that one of the most important things to LSU is the, are those night games at Tiger Stadium. So I know that he knows what he needs to say is LSU's coach is that we are fighting for these night games and the SEC is the one that is not allowing us to have them. That is what I believe, Lane Kiffin and it probably isn't advantage to play anybody at night. Everybody wants a night game. Tiger Stadium at night is the coolest place in America. It is the number one stadium and the number one venue and the number one circumstance for a game, night games at Tiger Stadium. If you've never been there, I promise you, you can watch it on TV and you'd be like, yeah, I have this opinion about Tiger Stadium until you go to Tiger Stadium at night. You don't fucking know. It will blow your mind. I've been to Alabama at night. I've been to Ole Miss at night. I've been to Georgia at night. I've been to Auburn at night. I've been to the Swamp at night. I've been all over the country. I've been to Wisconsin at night. I've been to Michigan at night. I've been to Beaver Stadium not at night, but I've been to Beaver Stadium. I've been to so many places. It is a different animal entirely, LSU at night. But I do think Lane Kiffin will play that game at 9 a.m. if they wanted him to. I believe he played at 6 a.m. I believe Lane is not performing, that's not the right word, but I believe he is speaking in the best interest of the LSU Tigers fan base, thoughts Liam. Somebody says, "How many times have you been to Tiger Stadium?" I've been to Tiger Stadium about five times. Go ahead. Well, it's the last time you went. Well, at night, I haven't been in a while. I've been for LSU Ole Miss about two years ago, three years ago, maybe. Yeah, I think Lane Kiffin, again, just knows what he's doing, knows what he's talking about, knows how to rev people up, get things going, knows how to make a headline. He's probably the most calculated man in college football. This is more calculation. This is a great thing for him to drive more attention to LSU, for him to be able to spin it into, "Look how much hay LSU's can now."
You won't point to why the hate is coming. But he'll use this for fuel. He'll tell this to his team. And they're gonna go out there and they're gonna try and whoops some butt. - Yeah, he's a smart dude. Let me tell you something about college football. Nobody in this sport knows how to do anything halfway. Speaking of tailgating, LSU does great tailgating too. You're not gonna go for just for the game. You're gonna make a day of it. You've got the tailgate, the food, the gear, the traditions, and somehow your $300 deep before kickoff. We all know that feeling. Your buddy finally pays you back for the stuff you bought for everybody. Good, take that money and your Venmo balance and spend it with the Venmo debit master card because in college football, there's always something else to buy. More cowbells, more pom-poms, more everything, more food for the tailgate, more fuel for the tailgate, more everything you need it and you need that money in your Venmo debit master card. Whatever your school considers a Saturday necessity. And with the Venmo debit card, you can spend your Venmo balance right away with no monthly fee or minimum balance. That's important because apparently nobody in college football ever heard of too much cowbell. Spend your balance instantly with the Venmo debit card. No monthly fee or minimum balance, learn more at Venmo.com/card. Venmo balance account required to use a balance and get the card effective November 1st, 2026. The Venmo master card is issued by the band court bank in the last time on this show. I did the two loss teams. I think are still alive and could win the national title. LSU was one of those teams. I had several of them. I think there's a lot of them. This time, I'm gonna go ahead and give some bulletin board material for teams and fan bases that won it. I have three one loss teams that look like contenders right now and I don't believe they're really contenders. I have three teams that right now, with their ranking ones in the top 10, all three I believe are in the top 20. I believe all three in three different conferences are not the contenders that they look like right now. So Mike says go first. Well, there are two loss teams. So they're not eligible for this. These are one loss teams that I believe look a little bit better than they really are right now. So Mike says Texas Tech, not a bad guess. Indiana, not a bad guess, although I think they're every bit the contender anybody else is because of that defense. Liam, I'm sure you can guess my three. So don't give them away, but do you have them in your mind? - I have all three of my mind. Yeah, I'm in the sky. I'll tell you if I'm right or not. - Well, one of them is I've kind of alluded to. - Yep. - It's not BYU, by the way. Everybody's sitting here saying BYU. My number one one loss team who looks like a contender, but I don't think it's really a national title contender. I believe they're headed towards a nine and three season. And in the first year of this coach, I think that's fantastic. I don't think Kentucky's an actual contender. I think Kentucky is doing great right now. They're leading me SEC. They're seven and one. They got their buy. Everything's going great. Will Stein, amazing, miraculous start. Minty is fantastic. Like everything about their season has been grade A, first class, incredible so far. I just don't think they're an actual national title contender. I don't think they're going to make the playoff. I think when you look around the SEC, Ole Miss is more of a contender. LSU, even though Kentucky beat him, is more of a contender. Alabama is more of a contender. Georgia in front of more of a contender. Texas at two losses, more of a contender, than the Kentucky Wildcats. And I'll tell you why. I know they've got some road wins, but what are those road wins really? At Texas A&M, at South Carolina. They haven't been asked to go out and win the biggest games in the world. They beat LSU at home by one. They beat South Carolina on the road by one. Again, very good wins, but it gets tougher down the stretch. I believe out of the next four games, they have four left. I think they lose at least two to go to nine and three, and they could lose three. They got Florida at home, and then they have back-to-back road games. Actually, I don't know. I might have that mixed up. They have at Tennessee and at Missouri left. I think they lose both those games. Tennessee, to me, not really that big of a contender either, 'cause they have no quarterback or offense, but at home, they're hell on wheels. They're hard to deal with. They almost got Texas at home. They beat the shit out of Alabama at home. And I think at home, and in front of 195,000 people, Neelan Stadium will be rocking, and I think they'll be able to be Kentucky. I think Kentucky, a nine and three start under wheelstein, is fantastic. I don't think this is hating. I just believe with what they've got left, at Missouri, at Tennessee, people have just kind of put Missouri this side, but I think both those teams have what it takes to beat Kentucky at home. Thoughts Liam, I know you knew this one was coming. Yeah, this one was the easiest lineup of all time to see coming. I am curious, would you feel differently if that second half against Alabama was more competitive? Yeah, I probably would. I probably would. But to me, I just see a team who is about, like everybody else, like their road winds, they were good at Texas A&M, they won by 10, I believe. But you know, at South Carolina, that game can go either way. At Oklahoma, they were pretty good. And then the LSU game at home, like they're in competitive games every single week. And you do that over a non-game SEC season. Some of those putts are going to fall, and some of them aren't. And I just think, again, with that defense, Tennessee's got, they're going to be harder for anybody to beat in Neelan Stadium. Yeah, I don't disagree with that. But if we are in this even playing field, as you look over to the MOP, which is maybe even, I don't know. If it's an even playing field, it's a bit NFL-y. I want their head coach up against all the, most of the teams that they're going up against, I'm taking their head coach. They've won a lot of these close games because of their head coach. Yeah, fair enough. My second team. The Northwestern Wildcats. And I was on Wake Up Barstool. We had David Brown today, and that was great and everything. But I think people are overriding this team tremendously. I don't know what they are in the AP right now. But I look at their schedule coming home. What? 20. They're 20. Well, that's not too overrated. But when it comes to the actual playoff and national title contenders in the Big Ten, I don't consider them to be one. I know USC and Iowa both have two losses. I consider them both ahead of Northwestern as far as contendership. I look coming home, here's where Northwesterns win so far. Here's what Northwestern has done. Northwestern has beaten Michigan State by three. They've beaten Penn State. They've beaten Rutgers. They've beaten Colorado, South Dakota State, and Central Michigan. Northwestern's best win is a loss. Their best win is a loss. It's a six point loss on the road at Indiana. That's what they're working with right now. Coming down the stretch of the season, they're at Oregon this weekend, they're three point dogs. They got Iowa, they got Ohio State, Illinois. They're going to lose the next three games. They're going to lose at Oregon. They're going to lose to Iowa. They're going to lose to Ohio State. Again, for Northwestern, eight and four, pretty good year. I just don't believe right now as you look at them at six and one, and you compare them to the other six and one teams in this country. I don't think this is a team that's an actual contender of thoughts. I didn't know you guys have on Wobb. Yeah, he was on Wobb this morning, and he was very good. Yeah. I spoke to him as well, interview after you're kiffin' one. You didn't do that today. I did that yesterday. I thought you talked to Bronn after we got him today. Okay. No, no. You're doing a whole car washing. Yeah. That's why I was a bit of a surprise doing everything. It's hard not to want to buy in. You know that. That's why you haven't talked to coach it forever because they flip your opinion so easily. Yeah. That is tough. He's like one of those guys that you want to ride or die with. He's very impressive. I do agree with you. I think it's an eight, nine win team who has overexceed, who has overachieved and the schedule helps with that. But in this era, like you are looking at these schedules at the beginning of the year because of how unbalanced it is. And that is something to take advantage of and they have. My last team is another team whose best win is a loss, and I haven't told you about this one. I haven't really said anything about this team. I think their best win right now is a loss. They've got some big blowout wins in conference, but they've been playing some blowoutable teams. Have you cracked the code yet, Liam Blettman? Yeah. Yeah. I know it is. They're 14th. And you're, of course, talking about. Wake Forest. Yes. I went two for three. Wake Forest. So you didn't have Northwestern? No. I thought you were going to go Texas Tech. I still think that leagues so wide open. I can't, I can't discount Texas Tech yet. I think Arizona beats them this weekend, but until it's still a home game for Texas Tech. So I'm going to let them get through that. But Wake Forest, and the reason I don't think Wake Forest is an actual contender is they're another one. It's the close loss to Miami where they fall back. But like coming down the stretch of the season, nobody's catching Miami in the ACC, right? So they're all playing for second place. Well, Wake Forest has to go to SMU. It's Wake Forest at SMU. Wake Forest has to go to Dallas. SMU had to go to Wake Forest. I would think that Wake Forest would win, but on the road, I think Wake Forest loses to SMU, thus shutting the door on them as an actual playoff contender, 9 and 3, 10 and 2. Still great season for Jake Dickert, Wake Forest. Yeah. And I think the thing that gets lost in the talk about Wake Forest and the loss to Miami is, oh, yeah. You look at it. It was competitive, right, Brad? They were down 31 to 7 in the middle of the third quarter in that game. And it was really, it was really a scratch and claw effort, but it was more so Miami, it felt like they quit. It felt like they gave that game up and just stopped playing, stopped trying, which is something that you see with Miami year after year. I think Wake's a very impressive team. I love the geolopus, the Hernandez connection. Jake Dickert should be one or two in this coaching cycle. Like you such an, I hate the way it's going to lose them.
But, but yeah, they're not a contender. You picked on three teams. You picked on three of 'em, three little guys. - I didn't pick on anybody. I didn't pick on three little guys. You picked on three cute stories. - No, I did not pick on cute stories. I did not, I looked at it objectively and I said when I think it's coming down the stretch. Part of the reason they're cute stories is they haven't had to do anything yet. Like, Forrest and Northwestern haven't had to do anything yet. That answer the cute story. LSU, or Kentucky has done something. Kentucky's beaten LSU. Like, Kentucky's stood toe to toe with some big boys. But, like, Northwestern and Wake Forrest, they're sitting there at six and one. You think, oh, they're good. I haven't had to do anything yet. - You picked on a basketball school. - No. - You picked on Wake Forrest and then you picked on a nerd business school. That's what you did. - You don't have a word for Wake Forrest. - I can't, I can't really think of one. I don't know if you could. - I think the best, the best descriptor for them is aren't they the smallest school in an FBS or not, or not? - That's good. - Power four, power five. - That feels right, yeah. - It's one of those. They have a, Wake Forrest has a shockingly small enrollment. Like, smaller than you think based on what I'm saying. 3000, is that right? No, it's crazy small. Winston-Salem, though, very underrated town, man. I used to live in that area of the country. Winston-Salem, good, good fucking town. Real good town. Anyway, one more take before. - One more take before. - 633 students. - So that's three times more than I thought they had. - But less than 10,000. - We're not numbers, guys. - We're all guys, Paulus. - And you thought that was worth weighing in, here? Is that what you thought? - Man. - Okay, what was that noise? - Man. - Man, okay. I got one more take. I'm gonna let me do an ad then I'll get one more take and then we'll get into our ball watchers guy. We'll get into the games this weekend and then we'll have Lane Kiffin in just a minute. Fox one, it all goes down in noon. Big teams, big plays. Big noon Saturday, streaming live on Fox one. Roveries, upsets, chaos. Whatever happens, you're watching it live. Football at noon, streaming live on Fox one. Watch three days free when you get Fox one. Big noon Saturday live on Fox one. Watch three days free. Who we got this weekend? Is that Wisconsin Iowa? Is that the big one in Big Ten land? And is that what we're talking about? Okay, Liam. - Yeah, Wisconsin Iowa. Sorry, it's muted. - Really thought that was a great chance for you to chime in. Wisconsin Iowa. Somebody says Greensboro, Greater Winston Salem. I'll get to that in a minute. You guys just love to be idiots when you hear me praise one thing you have to say. You just have to just fucking moron sometimes. Anyway, big noon Saturday live on Fox one. Other offers subjects to change. See Fox one for complete terms and conditions. Greensboro is a terrific town. Greensboro also a great town. That entire area of North Carolina is great. North Carolina, one of the most, one of the best state, I think they're top five state in the country. You got mountains, you got beaches, you got good towns. Chapel Hills, beautiful. Greensboro's fantastic. Winston Salem's good. So when I say Winston Salem's good town, don't just show up and say Greensboro, Greater than Winston Salem, you idiot. Shut the fuck up. We can praise many people and many towns. Greensboro is better though. Greensboro is good too. Friendship center, the friendly center. They got a big mark. I might have that wrong. It's been 10 years since I've been there. Wisconsin's a sneaky great state. Georgia's a great state. Florida's a great state. I actually don't get into the bad states. I think it's a 50 way tie for first, but if you made me say my top 10 states, North Carolina is definitely in there. Tennessee's up there. The whole, you draw a circle. Like North Carolina, East Tennessee, Northern Georgia, might be the best place in America. The South. No, I'm drilling down even more, not just the South. I'm saying the western part of North Carolina, the eastern part of Tennessee, and the northern part of Georgia, like north of, like Gainesville and Calhoun, like the very north part of the unbelievable place in this country, unbelievable. I believe you. You live in a bad state, BFW? No, I don't, I live in Illinois. Illinois is fantastic state. Illinois is a fucking fantastic state. He's literally just ranked Illinois first. Yeah, Wisconsin's a, Wisconsin's a great state. Wisconsin state, he ranked first. Yeah, it's a 50 way tie for first. Yep. It's a beautiful fucking country, guys. We should be happy we live here. Should be happy we all live here, unless we live in Arkansas. No, I'm just kidding. Shout out. (laughing) I think you're gonna say like, "You hamster." Oh, no, that would be, yeah, you're right. That would be the worst, that would be the worst place. I couldn't, although we flew to Connecticut last week, we flew, you know, I'm lucky enough fly with Dave and Dan and we were on the private jet going, we were flying low altitude, about to go down to Connecticut. And we were flying above, I guess, New York state and Connecticut and maybe a little bit of Massachusetts, I don't know. And like right at the perfect time of year and the leaves were changing and I'm just looking at unbelievably beautiful, unbelievable. One of the most stunning rides I've ever had in my life. Boo, WooPick, Suey. Yeah, well, I like Arkansas, Arkansas is a good place. Especially Northwest Arkansas. Northwest Arkansas is fantastic. You know, the Arkansas Delta, not great, but Northwest Arkansas, beautiful. One more take before we get to our, our, whatever we're doing. They'll get ball watchers guy. I would like to talk not to Liam Blutman, not to the chat, not to anybody else, I just want to talk to Cody Campbell of Texas Tech. Cody Campbell just keeps tweeting. Cody Campbell, if you don't know, is a big money booster who has made it his life permission to make sure Texas Tech is great at every sport. I think that is very admirable and fucking amazing that he can take his personal wealth and affect something that makes so many people happy. I think it's, I think every rich booster should do their part that being said, I'm not rich, but every rich booster should do their part and do what he's doing in Texas Tech. I think the fact that he's helping fund the football program, the softball program, the basketball program, it's great, it's awesome. That being said, when he goes on Twitter and when he talks in the press, and when he talks about teams and two teams, he is very unlikable. He comes across his branch, he comes across his petulant, he comes across his whiny sometimes. Texas Tech has one of the most likable figureheads in the sport in Joey McGuire. The coach for Texas Tech is a very likable, down to earth, awesome, incredible dude. I think Cody Campbell would be better served to let Joey McGuire be the face of the operation, to let him be the voice of the operation, to not go on Twitter and challenge everybody to do this or talk about everybody or joke about everybody, or say you're gonna run the score up on Cincinnati because they didn't placate you in the off season. I think at Texas Tech, Cody Campbell taking a back seat as far as his voice and letting his cash do the speaking while Joey McGuire is the face of that operation would be best for everybody. Thoughts, Liam Blument. Yeah, I don't want to or need to know your top booster by face, by personality. I honestly know he's putting the money up. If even that, and cool, good for him, I don't care about who's funding in the end, I don't care who's funding Texas Tech, put the best product out there, put your best head coach out there, put your best face of the franchise, your leaders out there and let them represent. I think it's, I guess maybe this is some people's flavor. It's something I have zero interest in. I don't know if he's trying to earn cool points on the internet or what, it's not for me. It's really off-putting. I wish I could be off-putting. Straight cheddar says absolute waste of money could really help people instead of buying college teams. Listen, we're a college football podcast. Take that cry baby, shit somewhere else. Could he build homeless shelters and save puppies and do great things in the world? Sure, I assume he is doing that. We're talking about fucking football dude. We're talking about football. Could he go give it to cancer research? Could he do it? Yes, sure, he could. Then I'm sure he is doing that. Don't be coming here saying that's a waste of money. Give it to the poor instead. No, go buy a fucking quarterback if you want one Cody. Just shut up about it. Shit. You want to do the ball watchers guide? Let's dive into these games. I'll have the upset alert. I'll have the game of the week. I'll have the player to watch and everything built into this ball watchers guide. Speaking of ball watching, there's no better place to do it than Las Vegas. Go to Las Vegas. Check it out. They got the food, the locations, the scene, the sights, the sounds, everything in Vegas. It just goes up and on every time you're in Vegas. The road to Vegas is here now. Cos football national championship is in Vegas for the first time and it doesn't just end there. I don't hate the idea behind that. I don't think the idea behind that at all Let's go with let's go with the 11 a.m. Games a luki Blutman show me those and let's dive into the slate So you've got Arizona, Texas tech. You've got Wisconsin, Iowa and you've got Auburn Ole Miss there as your first screen one screen two and screen three I that's interesting. I do think That Arizona Texas tech is my game of the week. I wrote it down as my game of the week I think Arizona is the team that I told you guys to look out for a couple weeks ago I think they're the best team in the big 12 not Utah not BYU not Texas tech I think we know for free to do him what he's doing I mean, they're the actual best team in the league and you can still get him in a good price to win this conference Unfortunate thing for them is the schedule broke pretty bad where they had to go to BYU where they lost by 11 earlier this year Now they have to go to Texas tech, but if they win this look the fuck out for the Arizona wild cats That is my game of the week Liam. I'm super super excited for this game, Brad Walker is the first time in the while that people To me kind of feels like the first time since the BYU game that a lot of people are made and even then people didn't To watch Arizona has a chance finally to make a statement and make noise I feel like it's just been you and I kind of and it's been you more so But it's kind of just been this show pumping their tires saying how good they are look out No if I feed a quietly humming Brent Brennan the great job. He's done what greats talk you had with him And now you got the sour side of Texas tech. I feel like a lot of people are going to tune in and root against the red raiders because of Cody Like I said, I think it's kind of a tough schedule break this year for Arizona where they drew BYU and Texas tech on the road And they get the added bonus of getting Texas tech with the red ass after a loss So like Texas tech is going to be nasty and salty. That means that it's you know if you're on the road and looking for an upset I think you want that early sleepy 11 a.m. Kick off before the locals can get going And then coming off a loss. I don't think Texas Tech's crowd will be as Energetic and as loud and as mean as they can be out there. So it's a decent spot for Arizona I think it's the game of the week. I think you're going to look up at Saturday like 3 2 30 and Arizona and Texas Tech are going to be like Noted at 31 in the fourth quartering and be like wow. I should have been watching this the whole time The opposite of that idea is what's going to happen between Iowa and Wisconsin as you watch your 39th punt of the day As Wisconsin nurses a 10 to 9 lead with two and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter And Iowa bizarrely goes on a four played 96 yard drive to win the game That is what's happening this week when Iowa plays Wisconsin Yeah, I like Wisconsin in this spot though Brando. I like I do. Okay. Good to disagree. I like I think with Why do you like Iowa? I just think home field in these nasty stupid slugfest in the big 10 where nobody's scoring more than 10 to 14 points Home field means so much. It's why I believe Minnesota beat Iowa and now You know, Wisconsin goes from jumping around and doing the crazy things against USC to having to manufacture points against his Iowa defense in front of Akinic stadium I just think it's there these two teams are probably deadlocked at 10 and the home field makes a difference Okay, I think my least favorite stat of the year was people pointing to USC rushing for like negative 17 yards or whatever it was I don't remember out on my head. It's like well Think about Wisconsin had I believe five sacks what they really did was they held USC the 20-ish 30-ish yards on the ground or something which is wildly impressive and that we need we need like I don't know sacks Things annoying Wisconsin's linebacking core is absolutely phenomenal. I think they're gonna be able to bottle the run No Kamari molten for Iowa as well. I like Wisconsin like a 17-10 game So I'd be shocked to either one. I'm got 17. That's that's how really ugly and stupid. I think it's gonna be I have you know like how many big 10 teams over the game. I saw that No big 10 games are getting out of the teens. It's fucking crazy wait I think I saw did you see the thing I saw the race to 21? Is that what's happening in the big 10? I'm gonna send this to yeah there it is Dana Hoekerson called Big 10 football a race to 21 since 2023 a big 10 team to hit 21 has won 91 oh my god 91.6% of its games 21 points Means you have a 91% good lord lick on this and just look through the records. It's unbelievable Get in there. Lookie. Get me in there. Get me in there. Lookie. Go in the wrong way. Lookie Michigan over the last 48 games. They've scored 20. Am I reading this right? They scored 21 points 31 times a 31 to know. Is that right? Northwestern over the last 45 games are 17 to 0 when getting to 21 points UCLA when getting to 21 points 17 to 0 or again when getting to 21.36 and one Washington when getting to 21.27 and one Ohio State 38 and two Nebraska 17 and one Illinois 23 and two. Oh my gosh. Oh my That is poor Maryland There was one in 22 when their opponent scores 21 points When they get to my world for produce one in 30 Yeah It's it's in this league. I in this year. I think it's even more exacerbated because now especially you have the Ohio State quarterback situation They're not going to be scoring as much as they would and the Anna can't score. They're offense stinks. Michigan's got a great defense They're offense stinks. Iowa. Iowa's offense stinks. Wisconsin's offense is Okay, their defense is better like how many of these contenders in the big 10 or defense first all of them Every single one usually there's a variety like in the SEC there's a variety I you've got some good defensive to it's a good offensive team. Oh miss is better offensively. Georgia's better defensively All the Georgia's balance, but you see what I'm saying in the big 10. It's all defense first UCLA Ohio State, Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota, Wisconsin. You skip USC What do you do with Purdue skip Purdue? Oh, no, I think you do Or in this year not your statement bad thing. I'll say well, yeah, but I will Yeah, you get to Nebraska then you get to Michigan That's 11 Um, all right Let's go to the middle slate there the 230 you got you got florida at Georgia. You've got oh by the way I had the my under the radar game was in that first window. I don't think it was on you didn't have it on the Ball watchers guy is one of the top three games I think the under the radar game and I've got him coming up when we give our picks later and you're nodding your head You like this, too? Yeah Okay, well whom am I about to say? No, I'm not gonna say it. I already know what I want you to say I'll tell you though. I'll tell you if you're right or wrong Who's the under the radar game? Smooth It's smooth accused. Yes. It's it's SMU at Syracuse quarterback back for SMU are not SMU quarterback back for Syracuse. He was out a month. Maybe six weeks He comes back. They scored 31 points. They went in North Carolina There's just a different team with him in the lineup for the last two years He hadn't been able to play that much SMU's going up there and they're laying what 10 points 11 points something like that I think I think SMU and Syracuse could play like a double overtime classic on Saturday I think Syracuse can score with them I like that as an under the radar games SMU at Syracuse I was looking forward to watching that one is very underrated. It's a good test For SMU who has played a lot of close games this year and it's coming off right in that momentum of the excellent second half They had it'll be fun. I have a question. Why is Katie stats in the chat saying jugs jugs jugs I definitely are sweet to you. What is what is Katie? Why is Katie stats saying jugs jugs jugs Just Casey coming back to the show. What why are you saying that jugs jugs jugs reveal the jug harder real the jug. I got the jug of sweet tea right here Well, I Some coach corn dog point out that what I count to 10 and then for 11 I raised my hands higher You went one two three ten eleven I don't yeah Luki take us to the middle middle affinance later Josh Pate would never appreciate that We got Georgia, Florida. We got Cincinnati, Utah We have Minnesota, Indiana as the first three screens right there Georgia, Florida being the main screen your second screen should be Utah since and adding your third screen should be Indiana and Minnesota And I wouldn't mind you know keeping a people out for Northwestern Oregon and South Carolina, Oklahoma But to me the upset alert of all upset alerts is this weekend And I think it is in this slate and I think the upset alert has to be Utah going to Cincinnati for so many reasons, but it's the rare Letdown slash look ahead spot. It's both it's it's the they had their first big game their first big win last week And they beat Houston at home national TV going crazy huge close game They beat a ranked team Next week they have BYU and and what looks to be a top 15 showdown and in between they got to go to center
Cincinnati, which by the way, Texas Tech tried to go Cincinnati last week didn't work out very well for him. I think this smells totally like a huge upset spot for Utah against the Cincinnati Bearcats. They've been a much different team at home this season since the night. Really, the only blip I felt like was that first half against Miami of Ohio. This is kind of their last two raw home this season. The only other home game they have is that Colorado. They played so many home games in the first half of the season. It's kind of the really it's their last good game at all. It's their last chance to give the fans something. They got Houston next week too. If they're in the thick of this race, it's a must win for Cincinnati. Which I understand is a must win for Utah. Two brands watching World Series. Well, I like me is watching Kansas State, Milton C state. Who's one 27 17 Kansas State. Funky line of the week in that game. The funkiest line of the week is is is is Oregon being favored by three and a half over Northwest. That's the funkiest line of the week. Yeah, but we can't do that because Illinois. I'm just saying I'm just saying the funky line of the week. Why is Oregon favored by three and a half over anybody must less a ranked opponent. Well, dude, they're the FBI is 11th best team. Yeah, I also love Florida getting what 10 and a half against George. I know George. I had the by week up to 12th. What is it 12? It's up to 12 now. In the what do you call it now? I still like I like in the Fesco QQQ Atlanta gridiron classic cocktail party edition. Marseilles Ben Stadium. Pretty cool. That that makes me want to die what you just said all of that. That was that was ridiculous. I hated every bit of that. I like Florida. Keep it close. It's Florida. It's Florida. Florida's not getting up for this game of Georgia's not get this isn't a fourth quarter game. I'll eat my hat. Let's see. You can't. There's nothing you do because all I can say is even if they're down 48 points in the fourth quarter. Well, they played in the fourth quarter, didn't they? I'm not eating no hat. You think I'm eating the hat? Go ahead. What if it goes to overtime? That would be more than a fourth quarter game brand. You can't have overtime. You just shocked over no overtime. Coach Corn dogs has Indiana minus 20 and a half gets Minnesota is a pretty wacky line. I agree. That one. Oh, wow. Up to me. If you're again, if you're a gambler, I don't think you can bet Minnesota. That's fine. There's a 20 and a half three touchdowns over a five and two big 10 team. Indiana hasn't shown the ability to score 20 points and they're 20 and a half one favorite. I mean, I just couldn't and good conscious bet against Indiana with that line and line screaming that Indiana is going to fucking kill him. But you know what? What do I know? We got Lane Kiffin coming up in about five, 10 minutes. Got one more window to look at with a couple of games. We'll get to Tony chastories. Tony's cage and kick Tony's famous cage and kick. And folks, not only was I an awful announcing today and my star powers through the roof and the money is so great. And I get to do a show with Liam Blubman, but I want to show you how blessed Brandon Walker is. As I sit here and do a show. My wife, my wife, brought me pigs in a blanket and a new jug of sweet tea. I don't know what's I'm I almost want to cry. My wife just dropped me off, picks in a blanket. Now I can't eat them because y'all don't like when we eat on the on the shows, but there there's my pigs in the blanket. It's really cool, Brandon. Yeah. Really hot blonde woman just brought me pigs in a blanket. My wife just put food outside my door. Yes. Yes, I agree. Can I have one chat? Can I have one? Just chat. Can I have one pig in a blanket? Only if you put a little Tony's on it. Well, that adds over. I mean, I will. I will. I will. I'm going to have one. Everybody agree? Everybody agree that I have one. Because my beautiful wife just brought me. Katie put us a pole of chat. Let Brandon eat. Yes or yes? Liam. Describe as I eat. My pig in a blanket. That's car girlfriend shop. Okay. And the pig in the blanket goes right into Brandon's mouth. Choo, choo, choo. Hmm. He does this for the podcast listeners. It's with an eye roll or two. It's so good. It's so good. He describes. He's never felt anything quite like this. Well, I didn't say that. Um. Um, taking the blanket reminds him of his greatest moments and feats. My beautiful, wonderful wife. Thank you very much. That was a treat. I'm not going to say that. Or dessert. Not dessert. Okay. Just not. So can he stop it one? I cannot. But I'll just get through the rest of the show. And then I'll have him. Um. Last window. Please bring it up there. If Mississippi State were to potentially lose Camario. We're getting arch make up for it. We're not losing Camario. Matt Cleveland. We're going to be a very, very highly paid quarterback that loves Mississippi State University. You guys losing your receivers and running backs to us. That's what I'd be worried about. Um, Loki. I'm going to give me the last one down. We got. Now this, by the way, we're in week eight. Now week nine. Whatever we are. Oh, look at the face. We're in week eight week. A week nine. That that that describes Lincoln Riley's tenure at, um. At USC that face right there. It looks like he's he's standing there watching his quarterback warm up and the quarterback just ripped the biggest fart you've ever seen. Um. This slate right here is pretty criminal. We got Miami, North Carolina. Memphis and Army. And the main game is Ohio State and, and Southern Cal USC. And that's great. That's fantastic. That's awesome. Uh, but that, that shouldn't be our Saturday night slate on Halloween night, right? Yeah, I mean, there were games that are being played earlier that should probably in this spot, but aren't for obvious reasons and. The beauty in this Brandon thank goodness, the beauty in this is, as you said, the top of show it's Halloween. And as we say so often when the slate wreaks. Oh, you're about smell flowers on Saturday night. Something's going to happen. Something's going to pop off that we do not expect. Yeah, and Halloween is a weird time. Are you going to be back for the show where you still be with your kids trick or treating? Oh, I don't trick or treat. I drop them off with the. I don't know if you know there's a guy in our office that will take kids from the parents in the office and he'll go around trick or treat with us. Pretty cool. There's signs of science seeing everything. Are you being for real? Yeah, car grip. Who? Connor Griffin. That's not real. You're you're you're you're lying, right? Connor Griffin loves trick or treating. He loves it. He lives. But you're you're not telling me. That's not real. No, not real. Okay, all right, all right. But man, it sounds like it could be real. It kind of everyone start a sign up sheet. Let me take your kids trick or treating. I think I think we can maybe get that going. I wish my kids were younger. I would like to forgot a grip and take them trick or treating. Um, you know, the big game here is obviously Ohio State and in USC. And USC is one of those teams, Liam, that we obviously are guilty of looking at them and declaring them dead. Even though they're they're just they're not dead. And there's talent there. And we are seeing Ohio State for the first time with the backup quarterback. And he is the player to watch. He and Jeremiah Smith are the player to watch. I assume I assume phase getting the start. Is that have we heard anything else? Yeah, it'll be him. Yeah, phase getting the start. He's the player to watch. Can he go on the road and keep the offense in the middle of the road and let the defense win the game for him? I don't know. Can he keep the Jeremiah Smith Heisman campaign rolling? That's another subplot. Does Jeremiah Smith hold on to his Heisman lead over the next couple of weeks with the backup quarterback? Um, but do I believe USC has the because when it comes to winning football games and beating Ohio State even with the backup quarterback? You got to have some nuts to you. You got to have something to you. You got to have some density to you. You got to have some fucking man and some some stand up and defend our home against Ohio State. You got to have that. And USC football does not fucking have that at all. They don't even kind of have that. They don't have the we're going to stand up and punch you in the face. They don't have it. So that for that reason I can't take them seriously as a team that can be Ohio State even with the backup quarterback.
quarterback. No, um, I think we should, I don't know if they'll do it. We should see a high estate use wildcat. Eat your pick in the blanket. Please see another one too. We should see a high estate use legend bay in some sort of wildcat. Give them that. All you got to do against USC is punch them in the mouth. They're defensive line candle. Nobody on their team could handle it. And that's been constant issue on the Lincoln Riley tenure. Why you're seeing so much Lincoln Riley coach coaching somewhere else talk right now is because they finally know when they finally realize and they finally understand and have learned this is Lincoln Riley football, man. This is why he ran away from the SEC. Yep, you're exactly right. And then he ran from the SEC to get away from this kind of football and he ran right to a conference that plays more this brand of football in the SEC. And what's he going to do next because you know, he was bank on the NFL. I don't know if the NFL is going to come call him, but he's going to go right back where he left. He's going to go right back to the big 12. Tommy, you want to pick in the blanket? It's probably what he's going to do. Do you take that Benadrill? Okay. What is it? Okay. We'll talk later. You want to pick in the bite? Mm-hmm. There you go, bud. You're welcome. All right, we've got those. And now, let's do draftings and then we'll bring in a link. It's one nothing, but the race have second and third with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. My pick for this weekend, I talked about it a little bit in the upset alert or actually the under the radar game. I think Q's keeps it close. I think Syracuse keeps it close against SMU. It's what 10 and a half points, 11 points right now, whatever it is. I think Q's with the quarterback back. I think they make it close. I think they keep it within that and maybe even win the game. Syracuse plus whatever number is. I've had so many numbers ahead. I think it's 10 to half for 11. 10 Syracuse plus 10. Excuse me. Syracuse plus 10 is my pick for draft games this week. What is yours? I'm going to tell you two teams. You tell me the total number of points they score. Yes. Michigan Rutgers. Michigan scores 16 Rutgers scores three. All right. Perfect. The over under is 45 and a half. We are taking the under. Yep. Fair enough. Fair enough. That's a pretty good pick. Gambling problem called 1-800-Gambler or 1-800-My-Reset. I haven't seen their full schedule. Have they passed 21 points this year? Yeah, you tap. You tap. I don't believe if you take away that there was a tweet I saw day. If you take away the you tap game. I think points for games that 11. Oh, bye. Bye. Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, let me clarify. What do you mean, clarify? You mean because I got the discount key. Alias. So maybe I got the number girl. You don't have discount key. That's self-diagnosed. Yes, it is. No, it's not. Is it? I have trouble with numbers. People have trouble with letters. 11 touchdowns in six games, averaging 15 points per game. See, I got the number mix. And that's with you tap in there or that's outside of you tap without you tap. Okay. Oh, yep. Oh, they have crossed the 50 and scored a touchdown with that. I'll marry four times. Jesus Christ. That's gross. So your pick is the under and Michigan and Rutgers. Yeah. I bonus pick under Wisconsin, Iowa. I don't know the number. I don't care. Anyway, those are my picks. Luke, do I understand before we get the lane, Kiffin, that interview coming up in just a second. You have some uniforms to drop on me? Yeah. And helmets. Well, Luke, for future reference, I consider helmets to be part of the uniforms. All right, Luke, give me helmet or uniform number one. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, yeah. Yeah. Fully fully on board. Yes. I assume this is Western Kentucky. An iconic look returns. We've seen something like this before. I don't know if it's exactly this, but especially the hilltop or mascot, whatever they call it, I think, just with his eyes on the helmet. Need that for this? Every time we do this, Western Kentucky. I've looked at the wide shot, right, Lukey, wide shot. Wide shot, please. Look at this. Albany, Iowa State Retro. Heisman signed by Rondein, UTSA, Mississippi State, Minnesota, with everybody else on deck. I got like 9 or 10 on deck here. I got Notre Dame down there. Somebody else is around here. Martinsburg High School. Oh. Central Michigan. Central. Do I have to? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Utah States on top of the bookcase. So everybody that drops these helmets, look, look where you could be. Prime real estate right here. I need one of those Western Kentucky. Yes. 100% great helmet. Next helmet, please. Did you see the big red square up with the Delaware player yesterday? I don't guess I did. So you're actually showing me the video where Syracuse auto the orange drops. This one's fantastic too. This one's unbelievable. Also, Georgia Tech, I saw you send pay to helmet. If you don't have a helmet to me by next week, I will ask for one again. This is Syracuse without own the side of the helmet. That is fucking phenomenal. That's great. I think we're in a golden age of helmets right now. A golden age of alternate helmets. Shout out to Georgia Tech and Tulane and Syracuse and Western Kentucky. This year has been one of the greatest helmet years of all times. Thoughts. Yeah, they're due there. The sport is leaning heavily into the mascot cartoon helmet game and it's wonderful. Yeah, it really is wonderful. It's so cool to see the orange representation there too. A guy like me. How many of you got here, Lucky? So many. I think we got like six more to be honest. Six more. If I had to guess there was somebody good guy. Go fast. All right, keep going. That is East East Carolina. That's a is that a cartoon mascot? Get me in there. Get me in there, Lucky. I'm not in there. I'm still out there. There we go. It's PD walking, walking pirate. Yeah, pretty good. Pretty good. Not as good as not as good Syracuse, but still I would give it an 8.8. Syracuse was a 10. What am I looking at? I'm looking at UCF. Are these space related? These rockets. Oh, United States on the pants. Love it. Oh, this is not these are NASA. Get me in there. Get me in there. So United States on the pants with the stripes. Need that helmet. Need that helmet in my life. There will be a time in my life. I'm able to see this helmet. It is not right now. What is what is that help? The helmet has like UCF and then has stars and stripes. Yeah, that's a hundred. This is another 10 out of 10 UCF. You have won yourself a 10 out of 10. Yes, I see it now. UCF with the red, white and blue on it. You need the pants. Yeah, I do need the pants. I need I need the tight football pants. Fantastic stuff. Good stuff all around. I would say leading right now. They might have taken the lead. They might have taken the lead over Syracuse. Ah, it's close. Oh, too lame. If you motherfuckers think too lame is going to sit idly by and just sit out the helmet game after dropping the fucking marty grow helmets. You've got another thing coming. This motherfucker here is unbelievable. That is something the fuck else. The mascot all over the helmet. Yes. Yes. I got to buy those for the West Point Greenway. Too lame. I'm going to take them right now. Too lame. If you don't see me with these helmets, we have a fucking problem. That's so good, dude. That's how they did it. How they presented it with the dark gloomy ominous clouds and like the the gothic buildings crazy. I'm not good stuff. I'm texting a two lane person right now. As he said, I gotta have one of those new two lane hell mits. Gotta have it. All right. Let's keep going. East Tennessee State University. They are the Buccaneers, right? Yep. Trick or treating pirate in a skeleton costume. Yeah. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. That's fantastic.
It's it's it's I can't put it over over the last one, but that's great. What's that on the other side? What's going on with the spider webs? Yeah, oh my goodness with bats and a pumpkin. Shout out these fucking teams, man You guys are doing the damn thing out here Shout out to god damn shout out everybody one more. This is the best I've ever seen continue Oh, this is how we went so they're both doing it. This is Iowa State with the all blacks and then Oklahoma State with the with the pumpkin orange Yeah, Oklahoma State is using those skeleton cleats Yeah, like Jamar chase James and William's Warfare have and then I would stay I don't know if you know it's Cartoon cyclone mask on the helmet look good a black all black helmet with a cartoon cyclone on it I like apples probably so jealous Oklahoma State just kind of playing Jane with their helmet though, right? No, or they wasn't wasn't play look the helmet look plain where the helmet normal with oh Yeah, I guess. Yeah. Oh, yeah, that's a sick helmet by Iowa State shout out to everybody any any anymore Yeah, we got one two things for one program. Okay, what you got Okay So Nebraska goes with the that's a is that script Huskers and all black Is that a blood so they're black and it's gonna be a blackout for Halloween? Yeah Or all the uniforms black - yeah, okay, I like that. I like that Nebraska Nebraska with one of the all-time classic just the letter in a red letter in a white helmet They should play with their uniforms way more than they do I think everybody should play with their uniforms way more than they do But Nebraska, especially they don't have an identity these days play with it. Just have fun man have fun These aren't as good as the others, but I was that on is the the old Is that on the midfield? Yeah, the old is that the old black shirts logo? Think is that what they call their defense? Yeah, I feel like that's their old black shirts logo All right, well, that was fun uniform talk. I appreciate that good job, lookie See if I got my two lane helmet yet Mm-hmm Yeah, oh, okay, I guess I will go fuck myself All right, watch what Kind of saw state are you making a saw state noises to see that happen live breaks my heart what what just happened to you? Shut up anyway One of the great interviews in in the sport lane kiffin. It's got a lot to say we talk about the night games We talk about Ole Miss. We talk about everything. It's coming up right now. Lookie play my interview with LSU coach lane kiffin All right, here we go. It's lane kiffin I'm not gonna give a big flower introduction He's one of the best coaches in the country LSU is in a great position right now. They're about to host two Straight huge games with Alabama and then Texas back to back I no longer introduction lane kiffin. What's up, man Brandon? Thank you for having me I've been wanting to come on here for a long time. First time we've ever made time for me. Oh yeah, I had to change schools Probably for you to let me on I When you weren't Ole Miss I begged you I said let me interview you let me come down there and you wouldn't let me in the building That was that was the SID Yeah, I know that was Kyle. I know. I've heard anyway So obviously you you you played that you were halfway through the season you got your by-week right now You got these two huge games coming up. You're back in the top 15. You like the spot that you guys are in right now considering and how tough Maybe that first stretch of games was? Well, I think I don't know that I'll ever get over to the Kentucky loss you know because we just we had four Two possessions were ahead with the ball and two possessions on defense were at us four total possessions Just do something on one of them for and you know, we win the game and So I just really in obviously I struggled with that, you know, we punted and it didn't work Said I'd going for it on fourth and one and in the game. So that one's really tough You know, I think that the Ole Miss game, you know, we walked into you know those storms that you walk into sometime and you have to play Really really well to pull off that winning. It's a really good team and an elite quarterback and and we didn't that day So I kind of accepted that and the Kentucky one really messes with me, you know, because You know sit seven or one right now with the way the SEC Is shaping out and everybody losing especially with the nine games would be a Would be a little better better spot than six and two. You know back to that fourth down decision I said the week after I was like I just I figured Lane will always go for that I thought that that was kind of Lane's DNA is gonna go for it when he has a chance to step on somebody's throat And then you didn't was that something you uh immediately regretted the moment or situationally It's something that you were just beholden to like what went into it and and do you give a damn what somebody like me says about it? No, I'm not I'm not about you say it's what I say to myself in the situation. So um, I think you you know man very Opened in on us with e-vows of things and very non-coach speak It was really calculated sometimes you just make decisions after it's like what was I thinking you know It was very calculated. We had taken the win for the fourth quarter our defense had been playing really good In the game and just stopped them and they had missed two field goals into that wind Yeah, and so You know we played and um in all those situations through the year there been four others where we kind of went Against the book, you know, it said go to be safe because our defense have been playing so well. They'd all worked and obviously that one didn't and But even when it doesn't work and they go down the score you still got over time and and you know could have obviously won an overtime too So but when it doesn't work, I really you know struggle with myself because Even though it was very calculated and a lot of people would agree with it Um, I just don't like it. So but it's all about how you bounce back right like you guys end up going to Auburn a very tough Place for anybody to play at all time like Auburns. I don't care how good they are in a given year Going to Auburn is nothing to play with you guys go over there and it's a laugh for you in 38 17 your quarterback is all the sudden playing at a level Um that it's playing at a very high level. I think you're getting healthier So what about the bounce back in the the response at Auburn? I it was good really played really um good football two weeks in a row after like I said screwing that Kentucky game up and So it was good to see it was good to see the guys play and and for the most part You know, he's taking care of the ball two weeks in a row And like I told our players we got all these stats. I mean we're to whatever You know, lead the SEC and offense lead the SCM defense You know, I think we're the only That's not how state maybe the only teams in the top 10 or something both categories in the country But we screw up, you know turn over margin and self-inflicted wounds and so Um really just wanted them to stop that so that they could see how good they are Yeah, and you know, the team was put together You know really specifically, you know compliment each other and and how they play and And at times have played as well as anybody in the country when you see what it looks like so just frustrated We've had a few few times over you know, maybe two different halves of football throughout the year where we didn't You when you took the job, you know, everybody had opinions about lane kiffin taking the job right everybody had an opinion But ultimately I feel like you probably took the job because you felt like the resources and the opportunity at LSU Just exceed so many places around this country. It's such an incredible job Now that you're halfway through your first season your expectations about the job and reality are they are they sinking up? Is it is it everything you you thought it would be? Yeah, I need even more and Like I said, I'll just say these things as you know, like um Unlike that Kentucky game where every day it haunts me, you know a decision in that um I've never thought twice about this decision um just from getting here and seeing When you play at home here in the stadium and the environment and the state and the people and How much support there is for football and then the kids in the state and how they play and how they love football and just see This is what we're eight games in, you know, and to see that we've played already as well as anybody in the country at times Um, in a really dangerous team Um, that we're able to do that in a really An offseason like we'll never have before we got here and then our coaches are still coaching there and going back and forth and Didn't know our current players on this on the team previous so as crazy as it sounds We will always have better rosters than we do this year And I know that sounds crazy because we have one of the best, but that's that's just going to be the case Um, by the way that we recruit the way that we e-vow and the players that want to come tell us you That at times you at other places you weren't able to get playing it simple I saw that and I'll ask about the nine game SEC schedule in a minute because I know you're very opinionated about it You talked about it last week I don't know that I've seen your opinion on the 2014 playoff that we've got coming down the pipe I don't know if you're pro or anti that or where you stand so where where you where's Lane kiffin stand on the 2014 playoff I think it had to happen. I think because of some You know You could say okay 12's better. Okay, but not when you take in to account The way college football is set up now, you know the conferences are so different the four conferences and they are They're different stadiums or different environments. They're different, you know middle to bottom of them And so you're not playing equal Schedules are not even close. Yeah, I mean if you're just into analytics If you're just into metrics and you see things and and look at that they got where they can projective If you took an SEC team and gave them one of those other conferences schedules, you know They'd average two more wins. Well, that's a big deal So I say all that to say
You had to go to more teams because the systems broke in how they pick them and nothing against the committee. It just, there's two humans can't, they can't see football for whatever reason because it's been this way so long. It's all about 12 wins, 11, 10 or 9 and those mean you're this and we can't unsee that. Where are other sports do? Basketball totally unsees it. You look at the seating every year and there's teams that, there's teams with four more losses. You know that are above other teams in the seating because they figured out it's okay. It's not just the wins loss. How do you win them? How do you lose them? Where did you play? Did you play on the road? All the things that go into it versus, you know, you look at some of these games that go down to a wire and really does that mean you're that much of a better team? You play at home and you play at night and it's a one-play game. But yet as soon as that happens, the rankings go like this, you know, in football. Basketball doesn't do that and then baseball, you have a system where look at your national champion Oklahoma and baseball national championship and they weren't 500 in SEC play. Yeah. If you're not 500 in SEC playing football, you didn't make the playoffs, you get fired. Yeah. So we just can't see it right in college football. Yeah. No, I think we've had multiple in the 12 team playoff area alone. We've had multiple years. We've had two years of a 12 team playoff. We've had multiple teams get there simply because their schedule was easier than everybody else is and I don't know that you're I think you're too far gone with these super conferences so you're not going to be able to fix the schedule. So what you have to fix is the playoffs so that those teams get weeded out a little bit earlier now. So I'm kind of right there with you. One thing that you guys were in the news for, not really you guys, but the TV schedule was announced for next weekend and it's Alabama LSU is going to be a 230 kickoff. Ole Miss Georgia gets a night's late. You've only been there half a year. Do you care when the game is the you the Tiger Stadium at night? I know LSU. Do you care when it is or do you want them all at night or what? Well, I do just the night having played on the other side. The night is so electric and kind of intimidating here. Yeah. And it's interesting that all of a sudden this year for the first time ever since 2010 or first time since 2010, Alabama's coming to LSU and not playing at night. So there's a lot of people around here upset about it and complaining and stuff and I said, well, you know, don't think we're going to we got a lot of people around the SEC really rooting for LSU this year after what's transpired. So I don't think we're going to get a lot of favors with that. So it is what it is. I challenge our fans this. You know, hey, obviously they put the game earlier, you know, because they think that that's an advantage to Alabama, not LSU that we can't be as loud and can't have the intense environment. So how about prudent wrong having the same intense environment four hours earlier? I'm a big proponent in none of these games should count since my quarterback got hurt. How's your team's health right now that trade is green wet weeks? I know you're those are two big guys you've had out. You've had other injuries. Do you like where your team's at going down the stretch of the season here? We're getting better. Trade is came back last week, not a hundred percent. You know, we I know everybody has injuries, but and you got to put together a team that can overcome them. But at some point, if you have enough, just like your team right now, man, they're going to be really significant. And yours happened to be on offense, ours were on defense, you know, without having wet and then to Sean Spears that both I think we're going to be first team all Americans at their positions. You know, those are big loss and trade as goes down as well. And so you just have really significant leadership, great big time college players out. And and then you go lose a one-yard game, you know, so that's that's that's part of it. And when it happens, nobody ever feels bad for you. Just like, you know, when it happened here, I didn't really feel really bad for Mississippi State because we went through it just on the other side of the ball. And and you got to try to sign around that. So in my opinion, nothing against your school, just in general, if you've seen our model, we always go pay a second quarterback. And because because when you don't have one, I wouldn't shoot, I would used to say like the the one when I saw that I said, all that will never not go pay a second quarterback is when Oklahoma was a really, really good team, Levy was there. And they lose the quarterback and they lose 50 to nothing against Texas, 50 to nothing for losing the quarterback. So you know, it's really why we went and got trin it out of your going. You see what happened when our quarterback got hurt there. And you know, we got three really good ones on our roster here because that that's just to me. You can't just put everything into one quarterback and then you you really wasted your whole team, what you paid for and put together when that guy gets hurt. No, I think you set the bar last year when, you know, Austin Simmons got hurt and after two games and you just turned to Trinidad Chameless and and Bami turns into an all-american. I think that the the bar is is very, very high. But yeah, it whatever stinks. Anyway, uh, we got and coming up, you've got Alabama and Texas back to back and and just two huge gigantic games coming down the stretch of the season. I know you had the trip to Ole Miss earlier, early, very early in the season. Then you have the trip in Kentucky. That didn't go the way you wanted to. What an opportunity to have these two teams back to back. Is that how you guys are kind of viewing it? Oh, yeah. I mean, I don't really view it that way because the schedule is what it is. Yeah. You know, they put it out. And I think again, too, like on the 2040, why I like it because it gives some some wiggle room because there's just too much. We talked about the conferences, but then every other year, you got five SEC road games just by luck. And we all know how competitive, we may be very similar to a team, but if we're very similar to your team, you're going to win at home and we're going to win at home. Well, we're going to get knocked out. Whichever one of us not not have the five games that year or five home games is going to go to play off the one, the other one's not. So by one game. So these are these are the two coming. We're worried about Alabama, obviously, and focused on them. They have a great personnel, you know, watching them the last couple of days. This would be the best. Obviously, we'll miss the quarterback and overcome a lot of deficiencies. But this is the best roster that we will have played of 22 guys with you. Look at the offense and defense. Are you more low key this year? Are you more mellow? Are you just are you picking your spots? Are you are you cognizant of how you come across at all? Do you care? I just think kind of done it so long now. I don't really basically at the end of the day. If you win whatever you do, they're going to like and if you lose whatever you do, they're not. And you do the same things and when you win, man, hey, that's awesome. And you know, our coach doesn't drink beer. Man, he does yoga. Man, he's, you know, they play staff baseball. He plays pickleball and all that. And then when you lose me, he's not focused. Man, he's doing yoga, you know, he needs to drink beer. And then we'd be better. You know, so at the end of the day, it really is about winning losing. You're so right. I think about yours, your basketball goal you got. And when you guys, if any team that does that, when you lose, like, why are we, why are we have a basketball goal on the side? Why are they dunking when you're winning? They're like, give me that screenshot of him ducking. It's just, yeah, it's winning or losing. You're exactly right. I know that you're going for this will be the last question. I appreciate your time going forward five, six, seven games, however much longer we have in the season. What is success in year one for Lane Kifrin LSU? Because I know you didn't take it. It's not a one year job for you, right? It's a, it's, it's going forward. What is success in one year snapshot? Look like for you. Yeah, I don't put wins and losses on it because that's just too hard. Like you said, discrepancies for injuries and things happening in other teams. And so, um, like you said, this wasn't a one year job. This was never, I know a lot of people initially were like, they wanted to say, well, okay, he made the right decision. If they have more wins than Ole Miss has in year one, you know, and then if they don't, then he made the wrong. That, that, that's not part of it all. This is a long term decision. And, and, and I hope they have great success and obviously be coached a lot of those players and stuff. So that, that doesn't, that that doesn't work at all, you know, try to figure it out that way. Um, I think both teams have really good teams and really good rosters. I think that is really positive about all the people that Ole Miss that put it together and all the people here that came here and put this one together that, you know, you're talking about two teams that are in a playoff hunt. So, um, the success really will just be about maximizing the players we have and putting in best position to win and see what happens. Well, I think you're the only man in college football that Ole Miss fans hate more than me. So, uh, thank you for that. Yeah, that is true. I was wonder, I really was wondering two Saturdays ago as our game started. I was like, this is the ultimate mine. F, you're Ole Miss people. I don't want either team to win. You can't have ties anymore. So, who am I rooting for in this game? Do I want Mississippi State to win or do I want Lane Kiffin and LSU to win? I feel like that was a really hard, hard decision for them. Yeah, like a Sophie's choice. I think they probably want to Mississippi State to win. I think they might hate you more right now, which congratulations. They probably just watched and said, okay, somebody's going to win, maybe those will be a lot of injuries. Yeah, that's exactly right. Anyway, good luck going down the stretch of the season. I appreciate it. Been a long time coming. Thank you, Lane Kiffin. All right. Appreciate it, Brandon. Have a good week.
