[1/5] 5 Traits to Be The Exception: Your Success Advantage

In this motivational talk, Darren Hardy introduces the concept that to achieve exceptional success, one must possess five key traits, beginning with the crucial mindset that past adversities are an advantage, not a liability. He illustrates this by sharing his own dysfunctional childhood, marked by parental abandonment and a harsh, disciplinarian upbringing. Hardy explains that these very challenges forged his self-reliance, discipline, and results-driven nature, much like how stress builds muscle. He dispels the myth that one must heal from such wounds, arguing instead that these experiences provide the unique strength required for extraordinary achievements that others cannot accomplish. The speaker concludes by emphasizing the importance of daily consistency and applied action through his program, asserting that real transformation stems from behavioral change, not merely acquiring knowledge. He invites listeners to continue the journey to discover the remaining essential traits.

Welcome to DARREN Daley on Demand, your most trusted resource to help you become better every day. Here's your success mentor, DARREN Hardy. Good morning. I am thrilled and excited to have you here. So you're here because you want to be more successful than you are right now, right? Well am I 20 plus years as the Central Curator and Business Leader in the Success Industry? I found that there are five must-have traits to be the exception. Do you think you have them? Well, we're going to find out. But first let me ask you, why do you think you are not more successful than you are right now? What's been holding you back? So let's start this relationship off by being candid with each other, okay? You see, we both know that your current results are only a fraction of what you're truly capable of. Am I right? What you've achieved thus far is nothing by comparison to your true potential. Are you willing to own up to that? So what's been stopping you? Well, the answer that I hear most often to this question is a myth. One that we need to dispel if we're going to get you to the next level and living up to the expectations of your creator. You see, I've had to overcome these myself. I was born into a very dysfunctional situation. My parents divorced when I was 18 months old and my mother, well, she never wanted me. I was unexpected as she would say, but really undesired is a better way to put it. In fact, when she found out from the doctor that she was pregnant with me, her response was anger and then nine months of disappointment. Even after I was born, she didn't have much interest in me. And when they decided to divorce, she just gladly handed me over to my father, walked out the front door and never looked back. My dad? Well, he didn't know much to do with me either. I mean, he was 23 years old when I was born and he had just moved from the San Francisco Bay area where he was from and where all his support network was to what seemed like the middle of nowhere. Albuquerque, New Mexico, to take a job as an overworked underpaid university football coach. And my dad had no idea how it's apparent. All he knew was how to coach football. So he raised me like one of his players, which meant there was no whining, no crying, no excuses, lots of yelling at a whole lot of cursing. If you're old enough to remember the movie, Full Metal Jacket, my dad's twin could have been Sergeant Guttery and my childhood was one long hell week in his personal boot camp. At age four, my dad married my step monster. Nope, I did not mispronounce that. And they went on to have two other children. And because in her eyes, I was of the other woman. She did everything she could to try to ostracize me from the family at every turn. I was literally a redheaded step child. Now I tell you all this because the only reason why I get to sit here today as the high functioning achiever that I am now is precisely because of this dysfunctional childhood. You see, because I had to deal with issues of abandonment is the reason why I am so vigorously self-reliant. Growing up with a demanding tough football coach father taught me to be strong-willed and disciplined. Having to achieve to get any love or attention from my dad taught me to be very goal-oriented and results-minded. These are the muscles that have helped me build the success that I have now and earn the position that I have today. You see, like a muscle, to have it grow, you have to put it under incredible stress and strain. And when you do that, you're actually tearing the muscle fiber. You're breaking it down. Then in recovery, it grows back bigger than it was before. And now you can lift heavier objects than you could before. Here's the key point. The first must-have trait to be the exception and become a high achiever is this. Know that your adversities are your advantage. Your past childhood dysfunctions, failures of the past defeats. These are not wounds that you need to heal from. That's the myth and its BS. Those adversities are the stress, strain and tears that have grown the muscle that you now have that will allow you to do the extra ordinary, that ordinary people who have not had that muscle development cannot do. You have an advantage because of your past adversities. Own it, leverage it and have it empower you, not to be able to do it. You see, you're here for a reason to do something great. You have a divine purpose and I want to help you discover it. So join me back here tomorrow and together we will find yours and see if you have the second must-have trait to be the exception.
